Everything I've seen and read has gone on the assumption that a deal is broken if a sinner who sold their soul is redeemed. But what if it isn't? What if whoever owned them in Hell still owns them?
That would make overlords so much more dangerous to have winners at their disposal. That also brings into question whether or not what they're forced to do by their souls' owners counts towards their status as a winner/sinner, since it wasn't by choice.

Zestial's human identity theory/headcanon
So I've been seeing a lot of people coming up with some great theories and headcanons about Zestial's identity when he was alive, so I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring:
I think that Zestial is Vlad the Impaler.
Evidence 1: Zestial speaks in an old-timey dialect, and Vlad the Impaler was ruler of Wallachia in the 14th century.
Evidence 2: Despite being a spider-like demon, Zestial has a lot of vampiric elements in his design. Vlad the Impaler was, famously, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Evidence 3: This one crosses more into headcanon/speculation territory. I saw a post (I forget if it was on here or somewhere else), wondering why everyone is so afraid of Zestial when he doesn't really throw his power around the way other Overlords do. The worst we see him do is jumpscare Alastor a little bit. The post concluded that it must be based solely on his reputation around Hell, and that it was possible he's known for torture and brutal punishments, hence why everyone's so afraid to cross him. I personally really like this idea and I think it's pretty likely. But getting back to the point, which historical figure was well-known for brutally punishing his enemies? Exactly, Vlad the Impaler. He was so well-known for it, it became his title.
I don't think this will be the case in the actual show, but it's fun to think about. I have a jokey fanfic idea where Zestial reads Dracula and has zero idea he was the inspiration.
