No, there are not 69 of us but we are hiding in a trenchcoat.. medically recognised adult DID system studying to become a clinical psych. We are aware we make mistakes, we know we make mistakes, we're open to kind discussion!!!! π³πΏπ³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ Please remember, there is a person behind almost every post on the internet, including syscourse. Be kind.

It Drastically Depends On Your Country, Infernal. We Kiwis Are Lucky That A DID Diagnosis Doesn't Affect
It drastically depends on your country, Infernal. We kiwis are lucky that a DID diagnosis doesn't affect day to day things very much, however some other countries are not as forgiving, and neither are individual psychs and supports.
Lack of support and response happens in New Zealand too: I've been denied healthcare (especially mental health care) when I've said I have DID β people respond awfully, often aggressively, or fearfully.
We've been hospitalised for suicidal ideation just to be told that 'you're making it up if your alter tried it β how the hell would you forget that?' or 'how would you know' as if the pill packets weren't telling enough because they simply believe DID doesn't exist or don't understand it (bc tbh NZ doesn't teach sh*t on DID).
Councillors won't work with me as I'm 'too complicated' or they believe we must be faking it as they believe DID doesn't exist, or they don't know how to deal with anything Spicer than anxiety, or we have 'too many' issues to be easily supported.
Lots of chronic pain specialists in our experience don't like DID patients as the effect of trauma on the central nervous system becomes an extra barrier to healing; making them look bad β I've stopped telling certain specialists we have DID to prevent the instant dismissal.
I've told people we have DID to be hit with variations of 'you must be faking it for TikTok, i've never seen you switch', fear of an alter being dangerous, wondering why we aren't locked up or complete confusion. We've had long time friends turn on us on a dime for knowing we have DID; immediately assuming we're out to hurt them. Yes, it's founded in misinformation, but it still happens. and still hurts.
We're not allowed to drive too, due to our fainting (they may be non-epileptic seizures, not sure yet) and disassociation. People may not be locked in a psych ward for good as many systems fear, but diagnosis still has an effect on their lives. It has an effect on how people perceive them and consequently how they're treated.
Getting a public DID diagnosis CAN be unhelpful. For some keeping it between their system, trusted people and their mental health supports are is the safest thing to do.
[but also don't let people shit on you; you can report any discrimination, including employers, school and medical staff]
I have seen alot of people say that getting a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder ruins your life. And its straight and blatant misinformation. Getting a diagnosis cannot and will not ruin your life. You will not be locked away, you will not have limits of what you can and cannot do. Purely the only thing I am not allowed to do is drive. And that is only for both mine and others safety due to how heavy my dissociation is in public and stressful settings. - Vesper

lmao this π "I'd notice if someone was sharing a head with me! Oh..? the voices? that comment on everything? it's normal, don't worry <33"
pre syscovery is "i would notice"
post syscovery is "HOW DID I NOT NOTICE"
Pretty sure Deadpool is pan and I know v little of the marvel universe lmao ...
I do however sense a hyperfixation arising...fuck.. I was hoping it *wouldn't* be marvel

fascinated by people claiming that deadpool is straight meanwhile here's how they marketed Deadpool 3:

the wild robot
you know that feeling when you walk out of a cinema, not really sure who you are anymore?
yeah.
i just went to see DreamWorks' the wild robot on previews and i feel that way; the animation, the story, the voice actors, the vibes, the subtle social commentary regarding a.i. and climate change.. just... yghHHH so good.
I'd write up a review but I'm so blown away I can't put my thoughts into words (that, and I don't want to spoil it)

imo this is DreamWorks best film. ever.β¦closely rivalled by Shrek, but not by much. i'd go as far to say this is the best original (not sequel) animated film I have since the original Inside Out released in 2015.
oh, my, gosh. 10/10. βββββ
this one is going to fly at the 2025 Oscars - even up against Inside Out 2 I would not be surprised if it takes out best animated feature and/or best adapted screenplay... and has a shot at nominations for best picture, and best original score.. π€
and will (hopefully) help boost DreamWorks to new heights
roll on the sequel (please, we're begging)
THIS.
There's sometimes a difference between formal diagnosis and "my psych has been working with me for months and agrees that I have this thing but we've discussed and we decided not to make it a formal piece of paper" - which is basically what our DID has been recognised as.
"You have it but for your recovery's sake, we aren't doing all the paperwork" - the way we're accessing mental health supports doesn't like DID diagnoses, our recovery team will only take PSTD as an answer and declined funding for future recovery if our psych said DID rather than PSTD. ππ₯΄ (we have a formal diagnosis of PSTD, and medically recognised DID...which is so funny to me when DID is basically just PSTD taken to the extreme but whatever )
"b-but some people just dont want a diagnosis!"
self suspicion or self diagnosis as people tend to call it exists to be used as a temporary measure to try and guess at what you may be experiencing until you can see a professional. it should never be used in place of a professional diagnosis, and if you use it that way and your journey starts and stops at self diagnosing, you are anti-recovery and misusing the tools of self suspicion and self help.
self suspicion should be "ive been experiencing a lot of depression symptoms for months now and i feel i may have depression. im going to use that knowledge of probably being depressed to be kinder to myself while i wait for my next therapy appointment to discuss it with my therapist." not "i read the simplified criteria for depression once and then parroted a bunch of tumblr posts about depression, im self diagnosing myself with it and i dont want a real diagnosis because a therapist might say i dont have it."
when you stop at self suspicion you are highly likely to be wrong. your self suspicions can be useful to bring up to a therapist, so they can keep those possibilities in mind when assessing you. but you are not a therapist, and you are not capable of doing a full and objective differential on yourself the way a trained professional can. operating under the assumption you have a disorder that you may not even have can have repercussions on your mental health and even on the community you want to represent so bad.
quickfire predicting the comments:
"but if you have a cold you dont always go to the hospitwl you just take cold medicine!" a cold is a physical ailment you can self test via taking cold medicine and observing if that medicine works. cold meds are OTC approved and low risk if you take them unnecessarily. self testing for a cold by taking cold meds to see if your suspicion is right or not is very different to, say, self diagnosing with bipolar. bipolar is also treated with meds, but not OTC approved ones you can safely take to test whether you have bipolar or not. if you take bipolar meds and you arent bipolar, chances are you will experience negative side effects or develop other mental symptoms.
"but the psych industry can be criticized and i personally dont support it!" the psych industry can absolutely be criticized, but throwing it away as a whole is anti science and frankly stupid. if you dont support the psych industry then you dont support the labels we've given to disorders in the first place, rendering your self diagnosis an act of hypocricy. if you really wanted to disown the psych industry you wouldnt use their terms in your tumblr bio.
"i cant get diagnosed im in an unsafe situation!" then your priority should not be which mental disorder you have. being in an unsafe or unstable environment is going to make it harder for you to correctly identify your symptoms. focus on stabalization before you even start digging through the dsm, buddy.
"i cant afford a diagnosis!" fair enough, but that doesnt give you a pass to go around talking about all the disorders you self suspect as though its proven fact. there needs to be more acknowledgement that self diagnosis is a suspicion made by people who are not qualified. it is not fact and it does not give you the right to spout unfounded claims about the disorder simply because you think you might have it.
"well what if i dont care about a diagnosis because i dont care if im wrong?" you are anti recovery and im not dealing with you. im a pro recovery blog. taketh thou bullshit elsewhere.
