Bucky groaned as he strained his ears, listening to the pairs of footsteps that rushed into the apartment, mentally making a count of four FBI agents in addition to Tony and Pepper who were most likely throwing orders. The wall separating the kitchen and living room was the only thing keeping you and Bucky out of their sight, but he knew that the agents were fully aware of their presence in the apartment.

Your fingers closing around Bucky’s wrist pulled his attention back to you, and the way your heart thundered away in your chest was written all over your features, and he couldn’t quite understand the way his heart plummeted in his chest at your panic-stricken eyes.

notes: okay FINALLY back home from traveling and FINALLY updating. i know you guys miss steve/reader interactions, but seeing this is more of an actual story with several relations involved, there’s a lot to unpack here so i apologize. maybe i’ll make it up to ya in the next chapter ;) as usual please give me feedback, i’m interested to see how you feel about all the characters after this! this is also a taglist check– if you are on this taglist and do not at LEAST give this post a like within the week, i will be removing you!

TIANA

They met in graduate school. Both in their early twenties, figuring out life, trying to balance the demanding expectations of their classes and the fun times with their friends. 

They had been in the “honeymoon phase” since before they even started dating. Tiana remembered every single detail about the night they first met. A mutual friend’s party, she was wearing a brand new top she had just bought that day itself on a spontaneous shopping trip with her best friends paired with jeans that made her legs look amazing, as Steve would tell her later that night. It was practically a cliche movie moment; they locked eyes across the room and couldn’t stop staring. Steve approached her, his blue eyes bright, blond hair neatly trimmed, jawline chiseled, the sleeves of his nice shirt hugging his built biceps. If she wasn’t in love already, their conversation was even more appealing. They found a corner to themselves and talked about everything under the sun. The little things, such as the weird insect Steve found under a rock while he was camping when he was six and the best piece of pizza Tiana had ever eaten in her life in New York City just last week. The big things, too. Steve reflecting on his mother’s death when he was young, and Tiana discussing her experiences with bulimia when she was a mere middle schooler.

series summary:  you are a college student working at a daycare full time during your summer break, and you have grown especially fond of one of the toddlers in your class, lincoln rogers. you are certainly not expecting to develop such a huge crush on his dad steve when you meet him for the first time, but you can’t help but be attracted to the businessman– despite the fact that he’s married. however, as intelligent and mature as steve comes across, he has a few secrets behind his marriage- one in particular he may never be able to make up for.

It was 6:05 PM and Steve had still not shown up, despite the daycare technically closing at 6. It was not too rare for some parents to run late, especially with rush hour traffic, and so you were not too worried. It wasn’t like you ever got to leave right at 6 anyways, considering you had to clean up and shut down the room.

It was only you and Linc in the room; Stephanie and the other children had left. The only people in the building were you and the director of the center, who was really only still there because she locked up the place after everyone was gone. Linc was starting to get fussy; his mother normally picked him up at five, and it was clear that the extra hour of being there was tiring him, especially after having seen every other child leave with their mothers and fathers. He was currently snuggled up to you on your lap as you sat against some pillows in the little cozy “library” area of the room, holding onto you tight with his head buried in your chest, whimpering every now and then while simultaneously dozing off.

“Sam, stop here for a second,”

Your soft voice was enough to wake Bucky from his slumber, and he groaned under his breath as he adjusted on the backseat. It wasn’t quite a five-star hotel bed, but it would have to suffice while the three of you embarked on your road trip across the country.

The car gradually came to a halt, and Bucky stared at the roof of the car, not bothering to get up.

The night was restless. Every time you were about to doze, Steven rolled over again and took you. Just as fervent as the first time. In a way, it was easier but it hurt just the same. You were tender still and he only seemed encouraged by your squirms and squeals. You slept for an hour before the sun rose and when it did, it seared your eyes and threatened to crack your skull.

A/n: this request was quite fun to make! I hope this is what you were thinking about while requesting, if not i apologize. I wrote this more around Five with the reader comforting him because i mean he was stuck in a wasteland for 45+ years. He definetly has truama/ptsd of some kind which probably comes with attacks or night terrors (hence the reason he hates sleeping). Also I apologize for this not being very long, it's more so short, sweet, and fluffy.

12. "I heard you scream. Nightmares again?"

13. "Hey, just look at me. Breathe."

It hurt.

The unbearable heat and the acidic ash pouring into his lungs and caking everything and around him.

He couldn't breathe.

The low rumble of another building falling to rubble in the distance. There was no way he was back here. Or maybe he hadn't left? No, it couldn't be real. He didn't dare open his eyes.

He didn't want to see the corpses of his dead family.

He didn't want to see the burning city.

He didn't want to see the wasteland he had tried so hard to forget.

"No..no,no,no,no." He murmered as he tried to wake up, the ash seeming to muffle his senses and thoughts as he struggled to comprehend what was going on.

His chest felt tight and he wanted to cough as he clutched at the sleeves of his dirty blazer, his breaths ragged. He cried out in hopes it would all go away.

It wasn't real, he had to wake up.

"Five."

A voice. It was muffled and faint but he heard it.

"Five.."

There it was again, louder and much cleaer this time.

"Five!"

Five's eyes shot open as he sat up in bed. He took a few deep breaths and raked his hands through his hair as his eyes darted around the room before landing on his partner. "Y-y/n?" He stuttered. He could see the concern and worry in their eyes as he took in another breath to try and calm down though it wasn't very helpful.

"I heard you scream. Nightmares again?" They asked, also sitting up and placing one of their hands over his own and gently laced their fingers together. The touch was comforting but his breathing was still erratic.

"Hey, just look at me. Breathe." They murmered, tilting their head to get a better look at him. Five sighed, trying his best to steady his breathing as he looked into his partner's eyes. "I...i didn't wake you did i?" He asked after his breathing had calmed down.

"Not exactly, i was just about to though." They replied with a small shrug and a shake of their head. A book lay forgotten beside them showing they hadn't gone to sleep when he did. "Sorry." Five mumbled as he looked down at their hands.

"It's okay Five. Are you feeling any better?" They asked, tone raising into the question. "Yes, maybe, better. I'm better, yes." Five stammered with a small nod and he gave his partner's hand a small squeeze. "That's good." They replied with a small hum.

"Do..you wanna talk about your nightmare?" They asked after a moment of silence. Another short silence occured before Five slowly shook his head yes. "I...i was back in the apocalypse.." he said slowly, "it..it just hurt. The ash and smoke, i couldn't open my eyes." He explained further.

Y/n gave his hand a small squeeze as he spoke to assuree him she was listening. "It was hot, and i felt alone...a-and scared out of my mind." Five hated to admit he had been scared. He didn't like being so vulnerabke either even if it was with his partner.

"After a bit i heard your voice saying my name and then i woke up." He finished. The explanation was short but so had the nughtmare been. Y/n thought for a moment before responding.

"Well, it wouldn't be uncommon for you to experience flashbacks like that. But all that matters is that it's not real and you're alive and safe." They spoke softly with another gentle squeeze of her hand on Five's. "But it felt real." Five replied, looking up to meet his partner's gaze.

"All dreams do, until you wake up that is. Then they slowly trickle back into your imagination and are forgotten. Though i suppose that's different in your case." Y/n replied, trying their best to understand everthing. Five simply nodded in return.

The couple talked a for a little more before deciding it was time to go back to sleep. They layed down and themselves in eachothers arms. Five nestled into the crook of Y/n's neck as they gently played with his hair. The feeling helped lull him to sleep and thankfully there were no more nightmares that night.
