this is a bit different from my usual posts, but here’s a little something i wrote:

there was a fire in the hills

on the tallest tree

in the deepest valley

it engulfed the branches

slowly, slowly

tickled the leaves of bushes,

draped over the shoulders of the earth,

the uneven ground,

and it stayed there.

it flickered.

it reached up, up,

up into the clouds

until it met the rain

and the water fell like an avalanche

and the fire was gone

but i never knew, because the hills were too tall.
