Augusnippets Day 4: Amputation
Augusnippets Day 4: Amputation
Fandom: The Bad Batch
Summary: Hunter knew standing close to Separatist tanks was dangerous. He didn't expect the one he was next to to blow up and he definitely didn't expect the damage to take his arm.
Hunter knew he shouldn't have been so close to the Separatist tank. While he wasn't sure what had happened after he heard the tank explode, he knew passed out.
One of his few memories involved a medic taking. "Put a tunicate on his arm, he's going to lose the limb anyway. If it gets much worse, we're going to have to do a field amputation."
The clone remembered thinking, "did he just say 'field amputation'?" Trying to argue, Hunter tried to sit up. He found he couldn't move. Then the world went black.
When he woke up, he was in a medical bay. Wrecker sat beside him on a chair. Tech was in the chair in the corner and Crosshair was sitting at the foot of the bed. They were talking about some memories from their cadet years.
As Hunter stirred, he startled Crosshair. "Hunter."
"Yeah" he said quietly.
"Hey! We thought we were going to lose ya!" Wrecked yelled. He stood up and went to hug his brother.
Reacting to the situation, Tech also stood up. "Hugging Hunter is not in his best interest. He is still healing."
"Aww okay." Wrecker pouted. Then he sat back in his seat.
"What happened?" Hunter asked.
"You were injured by shrapnel." Tech began. "The medics brought you to the service location they could find. While there, they made the decision to amputate your left arm at your shoulder."
That couldn't be right. "What?"
"Your left arm has been amp-"
"I think he knows Tech." Crosshair cut his brother off.
"Are you okay?"
Hunter's arm was gone. Moving the blanket, the clone looked at where his arm should be. After a moment, he put the blanket back and just stared at his brothers.
"Are you okay." Wrecker repeated.
"I don't know."
"Losing a body part is a startling process. From the initial trauma to learning to cope with the loss of the amputated limb, it can take a while to fully heal. However, they should be able to fit you with a prosthetic." Tech walked over to Hunter as he talked.
"Something tells me this is not what he wants to hear." Wrecker spoke. He looked at Hunter, "do you want some alone time?"
"Yeah." Hunter didn't look at them. Instead he kept looking at the ceiling.
"We'll be nearby if you need anything." Wrecked touched the end of the bed as he spoke. Then Tech, Crosshair, and him left the room.
Trying to process what had happened to him, Hunter continued to stare at the ceiling. He knows Tech knows what will happen next but he's not sure if he wants to know. Prosthetics had advanced significantly over the years but they could never truly replace a flesh limb.
The amputation was to save his life, Hunter knew this. Still, he wondered why it had to happen. Why did he have to be so close to the tank that exploded? Why did the shrapnel land where it did? Whatever this cruel twist and fate had been, Hunter knew he had to live with it. After all, he had no choice.

Augusnippets Day 13: Forced to Watch (alt prompt)
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Summary: Luke tries to spare Annabeth during The Titan's curse. Percy can do nothing but watch from his dreams as this happens.
"The girl is of no use to us." A voice said. Percy still wasn't sure who was talking.
"She can be used as bait for the half-bloods." Luke said. Annabeth lay on the ground.
"The goddess will also serve that purpose. There is no need to keep the young half-blood alive. Kill her."
Luke looked distraught. "No. The half-bloods have a personal attachment to her. They are more likely to come for Annabeth; especially Poseidon's son." He walked over to Annabeth. as if he would protect her.
If Percy didn't know better, he'd say Luke didn't want her dead. However he'd ordered her death half a year ago. That couldn't be the case.
The man didn't seem to want to budge. Percy wanted nothing more than step in and save her like she had done for him. However, he couldn't move. After all, this was simply a dream. All he could do was watch and hope that Luke convinced him to leave her alive.
"Leave the young maiden alone." Artemis argued.
Luke looked over the goddess then back to the Titan. He whispered as he spoke. "Please, do not make me kill her."
The Titan didn't move or speak. He just waited for Luke to get over his idea of saving Annabeth and kill her.
"If you will not show her mercy" Luke kneeled in front of the figure. "Show me mercy. I ask you, do not kill my sister." The demigod's voice shook.
Percy felt his blood go cold. Luke was begging for Annabeth's life and he couldn't do anything about it.
"Kill the girl Castellan. Prove to me you can do it or I'll have to report your failure." The enemy's voice was harsher than it had been.
Luke was faced with a choice; kill Annabeth or betray Kronos. Trying to help, Percy started to yell out to Luke and Annabeth. "Annabeth! Annabeth, get up!"
"Annabeth, could be a strong ally. Let me talk to her, maybe she will align."
"Take the deal!" Percy yelled, knowing his voice couldn't be heard.
"Kill that daughter of Athena!" The voice shook though the cavern.
Tears filled Percy's eyes and he saw that they also filled Luke's. This was never really in either of their hands. Taking a look at his sword, Luke raised it. He turned towards Annabeth. "No!" Percy yelled out.
Then he woke up, unaware of Annabeth's fate. Tears fell down his face as he realized there was only one way to find out if she was alive. He would have to go to her.
Augusnippets Day 9: Hypothermia
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Note: This takes place during season 6
Summary: What is Callum had fallen into the frozen sea on Rayla and his way to the Starscraper?
"Ice water is cold." Was the first Callum said when Rayla pulled him out from under the ice. They must have found a weak spot in the frozen sea or maybe it was just the mage's luck.
"Of course it is you dummy." Rayla pulled Callum forwards, trying to get him further from the hole in the ice. He was still coughing as he tried to act like everything was fine.
The wind was cold against the teens skin. Even with his clothing, the wind chill clung to his bones.
"Are you going to be okay?"
"I'm going to have to be." It was unfortunate but true. There was no Callum could go. They had caught fire to the frozen ship. There was no point in going home, it would just make their trip worthless. So they had to go to the Starscraper.
The wind bit at his fingers until they started to become numb. Callum shivered with every step. He refused to tell Rayla; she'd worry too much. The elf would try to help him; which as much as Callum wouldn't have minded, he didn't want her to get hurt.
As they walked, the prince started to feel more and more tired. His breathing quickened. "Can we" Callum shivered, "take a break?"
Rayla walked over to him. She brought her hand up to cuff his face. "Callum you're freezing."
"Nah, you know what that feels like more than I do." Then he leaned into Rayla. "You're really warm." Callum whispered.
"Come here." The elf picked him up. "I'll carry you the rest of the way."
"You don't have to." The human mumbled.
Shaking her head, Rayla pulled Callum closer to him. Hopefully they would arrive at The Starscraper soon.
Codywan Week Day 5: Only One Bed
Summary: After being sent on a diplomatic mission, Obi-wan and Cody settle into their room. The only problem, there's only bed.
Funny story about this at the end.
Obi-wan and Cody stared at the room before them. It was a nice room. There was a mini fridge, a bathroom, a bedside table that had a lamp on it, and a desk. There was only one problem, there was only one bed.
When the Jedi had sent Obi-wan on a diplomatic mission, they sent his commander with him so that he wasn't alone. After all, he was being sent to a war zone. It was fitting to have Cody there. However the council partially sent him for the company on the long days if travel.
The two spend a lot of time together, but one on one time like this was almost rare. I'm truth, both enjoyed being is such close contact for the few days they had spent travelling. Now they could have more close contact time.
"I can sleep on the floor."
"I can't ask you to do that." Taking off his shoes, Obi-wan sat in the bed. "We'll be fine to share a bed."
There was a nervous feeling that flooded Cody. It wasn't a bad feeling at all. "Okay."
Slowly the two settled into the room. The clone took off his armor and set it down in the corner and the Jedi removed his lightsaber from his belt and placed it on the bedside table. The two changed into comfortable clothing. Then they got into bed.
The blanket was soft. They laid an awkward distance apart, both men wanting to hold the other. It felt like it should come naturally to them. After a moment, Cody decided to shift, trying to see how Obi-wan would react.
As Cody moved, Obi-wan did too. Shifting to be closer to his commander, he grumbled about the room being slightly cold.
"Just come here." Cody smiled, holding his arms out to his Jedi. For a moment, Obi-wan hesitated. He wasn't sure why he did. Then he inched closer to the man.
Wrapping his arms around him, Cody pulled him close. "Is this better?"
"Yeah" Obi-wan said, surprised. Cody always did run warm. It felt nice, their body heat being together. It felt right, being so close. Trying to resist the urge to kiss him, the clone looked around the dark room.
Then Obi-wan got closer to him. His head rested on his chest. Looking up at Cody, his eyes lingered on his lips. The man noticed and waited to see if anything would happen. After what felt like a minute, Obi-wan leaned into his commander, kissing him.
The kiss only lasted a few seconds before the Jedi pulled away. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I-"
Interrupting him Cody pulled him back into a kiss. "It's okay." The two looked at each other for a moment before Obi-wan laid back down.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
The next day, the two got up. They didn't talk about what had happened the night before until the day was over. "So, what now?" Cody asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Are we going to talk about last night?"
"I've wanted to do that for a while now. I'm sorry if you feel uncomfortable."
"I don't." Sitting on the bed, Cody rested his hand beside him. "I like you, a lot. I'd love to date you, but I can't ask that if you. You're a Jedi."
Obi-wan crawled onto Cody, his legs on both sides of the man. "Don't worry about that. I'd like to be your boyfriend." Then kissed him. The two fell to the bed. Maybe sharing one bed wasn't so bad.
Funny story: I was gonna do hurt/comfort. My only note was "You have til August." I went to write it and figured out I didn't have any ideas previously so I changed the prompt. Next to the "You have til August." I wrote "It's August." I just think it's kinda funny. That's all.
Augusnippets Day 2: Plotnic Bathing
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Summary: After Thalia's death, Luke had to help Annabeth with everything. In hopes of lifting her spirits and finally getting her cleaned off, Luke decided it was time to get her to take a bath.
"Annabeth come on." It had been a few days since Annabeth, Luke, Grover and Thalia arrived at camp. It had been a few days since they had lost Thaila. "You need to get up."
"No." Annabeth whispered. "I don't want to."
Luke sighed. "Please. You need to get out of the bed." He walked over to her with heavy, regretful footsteps. "I miss her too but you have to get up."
"No." The girl pulled her blanket up further. "I can't."
Sitting beside her bed, Luke sighed. "I know it hurts but we have to try. How about we start with a bath?" stretching his arm out to his little sister, he tried to get her to take his hand.
A little hand grabbed his hand softly. "Okay."
With a soft smile, Luke picked some clothes for her and went to meet her. He helped her put her shoes on and waited for her to stand up. "Annabeth? Are you okay?" He asked gently.
The girl started to cry. "I miss her."
"I know. I do too. Here let's try this." Grabbing his bag, Luke put her clothes in it. Then he slowly picked her up. "Is this okay?" The girl nodded and snuggled into the boys chest. "Okay."
The walk to the big house wasn't a long one. Knocking, Luke waited for Chiron to open the door. When he did, Luke informed him that they would be using his bath. Chiron nodded and led them to the bathroom and grabbed a towel. "Let me know if you need anything."
"We will, thank you."
Once in the bathroom, Luke put Annabeth down and locked the door. Then he stopped up the tub. He let the water run warm and put some soap in the water. The boy hoped that a bubble bath might help Annabeth start to feel better. "Okay." He started, still looking at the tub. "You ready?"
When he turned around he realized the girl hadn't moved since he put her down.
It was like she was frozen. Annabeth might not have been physically hurt but her mind was so damaged it paralyzed her. Luke knew he needed to help her, no matter what. It didn't matter how people could see it or how uncomfortable he might be, Annabeth needed him. She couldn't do anything on her own right now. Luke knew Annabeth needed help. He had been making sure she ate, drank, and got up to use the bathroom. As her older brother, it was his job to be there for her.
"Okay. Do you need any help? I can help you." Once more Luke offered her his hand. This time she just looked at him for a moment. Then she slowly nodded. Carefully he removed her shoes and clothes before picking her up and placing her in the warm water. "How's that?"
Annabeth nodded. Shutting the water off, Luke let his sister soak in the water for a moment. It had been so long since they had gotten a chance to bathe. Sure they had gotten to shower but there was always something about letting the water seep into your skin and bones. The hotter the water, the better. However for Annabeth, the water was lukewarm.
Trying to see if Annabeth would wash herself, Luke looked around the bathroom. He hadn't been there before. The walls were mostly just white with some gold trim. After a while Luke asked "You doing okay?"
Annabeth stared at him. Sighing, the boy grabbed the sponge and put some soap on it. "I've got you." Taking show shampoo in his hand, Luke started to massage it into her hair. She seemed to relax as he washed it out. Then he grabbed the conditioner and repeated the process. Gently, Luke took the sponge to her skin. The soap had a fresh, earthy smell to it.
After cleaning her off, Luke drained the tub. Picking her up, he put her on the bath mate. He grabbed the blue towel and wrapped Annabeth in it. "It's your favorite color." Luke smiled. Annabeth tried to.
Looking on the counter, Luke found the hair dryer and plugged it in. "Let's get your hair dry." It took a while before Luke got her blonde hair dry but when he did it was soft. Brading it made it easier to maintain so he did. Brushing her long hair would take energy that Annabeth wouldn't have for a while.
Luke helped his sister get dressed before tying her shoes. "Do you want to go anywhere?"
"Your cabin" Annabeth whispered.
Slightly chucking, Luke smiled. "Okay." He stood and offered his hand to her, trying to get her to walk. With a lot more force than she had used before, Annabeth took his hand and stood up. A wave of relief washed over Luke as they walked to his cabin. Maybe a clean start was what she needed.
Codywan Week Day 3: Soulmate au
Summary: When you touch your soulmate for the first time you can see color. When Cody and Obi-wan first met, they discovered just how colorful the galaxy can be.
The world was so boring in shades of gray. But that was all Obi-wan knew. That was all most people knew for the earlier parts of their lives. You would wait until you met your soulmate. Then once you touched them, your world would fade into color.
Obi-wan had always wanted to see the color of the universe had to offer. Now he is 34 and waiting. A war had begun and he was a general. He still needed to meet the people under his command.
The first time the Jedi saw his commander, he felt like they would get along. "I'm Obi-wan Kenobi. We'll be working together."
"Commander Cody." He reached his hand out for a handshake. "It's nice to meet you."
As the two shook their hands, the room seemed to light up. The shades of gray they both had lived with their whole lives faded into shades of red, blue, and more. Yet the color that took Obi-wan by surprise was the color of Cody's eyes. They were a simple brown yet stunning. "You have very beautiful eyes."
"Thank you." Cody said. The two stared at each other for a moment. They didn't let go of the other's hand or break eye contact as they stood there. "I like yours."
"Thank you." The two let go of each other but stayed locking eyes. "What color do you think they are?"
Breaking eye contact, Cody walked over to light on some board. "I'm not sure about the name, but I do know that they look something like this."
Smiling, Obi-wan looked around to find something that reminded him of Cody's eyes. He settled on his cloak. "Yours are a darker shade of brown than my cloak."
"How do you know it's brown?"
"Everyone tells me it is. I used to ask my master all the time."
Cody smiled. "That's sweet."
"Yeah. Well, shall we. We have duties to attend too." Both of them knew this was the beginning of something beautiful. While nervous, maybe they would be okay. The two would figure out more about the universe together.
Bonus
Cody and Obi-wan stood on the beach. The water was crystal blue. The clone could swear he had seen that color before. As the Jedi sat down to relax, Cody realized where he had seen that color before. In fact, he saw it all the time.
"I know how to describe your eyes now." Cody said as he joined him. Obi-wan had already found sweet ways to describe the man's eyes. He said they looked like coffee or old books.
"Oh?"
"They remind me of the sea. No wonder I like them so much, they remind me of home. You remind me of home."
"That's sweet. Thank you, love." Obi-wan looked around quickly before kissing Cody. He may not have shown how much those words touched him, but they did. They were one of the sweetest things he had heard in a while. "I love you."
"I love you too."
