Codywan Week Day 3: Only One Bed

Summary: While going to aid a senator when he is threatened with assassination they run into a 'problem', there's one bed.

    Obi-wan and Cody had been sent to assist a senator after they got word that a assassination attempt was suspended to happen in a few days. When they arrived the senator greeted them kindly and thanked them for coming. He led them to a room they could stay in.

    "I'm sorry it's not bigger" he said, "it's just the room closest to mine which I thought would be safer."

    "No worries, we'll make do." Obi-wan joked.

    The senator smiled. "I'll let you settle in."

    "Thank you senator." Cody said. Then the man closed the door. He looked at the room. There was a small window, a bathroom attached to the room, and a nightstand. As well as one twin sized bed.

    Obi-wan walked over to it. He sat down at the end of the bed. "Have you ever slept on a real bed commander?"

    Cody thought about it, "no, I don't think I have."

    "Come here."

    Cody complicated. He sat down expecting the bed to be hard. The softness of the mattress surprised him.

    "You can lay down if you'd like." Obi-wan smiled.

     Cody didn't hesitate. He laid right down. He grinned.

    "It will be more comfortable without your armor. We can settle in for the night."

    "Are you sure?" Cody asked.

    "I'm sure." Cody took off his armor and laid back down.

    "Comfortable?" Obi-wan asked.

    "Very."

    Obi-wan took off his shoes and sat on the other side of the bed. "Want the blanket?" he laughed as he got it off the end of the bed and unfolded it.

    It was softer than Cody expected. All the blankets the clones get feel like thin towels. He laid back down and Obi-wan watched him as he fiddled with the fabric.

    He smiled and laid down next to him. Looking over at Cody he looked so calm. He seemed quite content. It sent butterflies into Obi-wan's stomach. He looked at Cody's hand. It was very close to his own.

    Without the time to really think about it, he placed his own on Cody's hand. Cody shifted to his side and looked at Obi-wan. Well sort of. The darkness wouldn't let the secret of Cody's smile be revealed.

    As Obi-wan went to remove his hand, not wanting Cody to be uncomfortable he felt Cody's grip tighten. His face felt hot and he moved a little bit closer to the clone.

    The two fell asleep not long after. When they awoke they didn't talk about it. They didn't talk about the next night when Cody ended up spooning Obi-wan. They didn't talk about how close their bodies were or how much they wanted to be closer.

The assassination attempt was stopped and their mission was over even though either of them really wanted it to be. All good things come to an end.

Cody had gone to get the ship ready as Obi-wan talked to the senator. "I have a question, and I'm sorry if it's out of line."

"Oh, what is it?" The senator looked confused.

"Would you happen to have a really soft blanket you would be willing to part with? The commander was quite fond of the one we had." Obi-wan asked. He sounded hesitant.

"Of course! That's not a problem." He asked one of his droids to go and get the one from the room the two had occupied.

She brought it back quickly and Obi-wan smiled as he thanked the senator. The senator was more than happy to be able to do something for the two.

Obi-wan was so excited to give the blanket to Cody. He knew it would mean so much to him. As he walked up to the ship he put the blanket behind his back and smiled. This would be fun.

Codywan Week Day 5: Only One Bed

Summary: After being sent on a diplomatic mission, Obi-wan and Cody settle into their room. The only problem, there's only bed.

Funny story about this at the end.

Obi-wan and Cody stared at the room before them. It was a nice room. There was a mini fridge, a bathroom, a bedside table that had a lamp on it, and a desk. There was only one problem, there was only one bed.

When the Jedi had sent Obi-wan on a diplomatic mission, they sent his commander with him so that he wasn't alone. After all, he was being sent to a war zone. It was fitting to have Cody there. However the council partially sent him for the company on the long days if travel.

The two spend a lot of time together, but one on one time like this was almost rare. I'm truth, both enjoyed being is such close contact for the few days they had spent travelling. Now they could have more close contact time.

"I can sleep on the floor."

"I can't ask you to do that." Taking off his shoes, Obi-wan sat in the bed. "We'll be fine to share a bed."

There was a nervous feeling that flooded Cody. It wasn't a bad feeling at all. "Okay."

Slowly the two settled into the room. The clone took off his armor and set it down in the corner and the Jedi removed his lightsaber from his belt and placed it on the bedside table. The two changed into comfortable clothing. Then they got into bed.

The blanket was soft. They laid an awkward distance apart, both men wanting to hold the other. It felt like it should come naturally to them. After a moment, Cody decided to shift, trying to see how Obi-wan would react.

As Cody moved, Obi-wan did too. Shifting to be closer to his commander, he grumbled about the room being slightly cold.

"Just come here." Cody smiled, holding his arms out to his Jedi. For a moment, Obi-wan hesitated. He wasn't sure why he did. Then he inched closer to the man.

Wrapping his arms around him, Cody pulled him close. "Is this better?"

"Yeah" Obi-wan said, surprised. Cody always did run warm. It felt nice, their body heat being together. It felt right, being so close. Trying to resist the urge to kiss him, the clone looked around the dark room.

Then Obi-wan got closer to him. His head rested on his chest. Looking up at Cody, his eyes lingered on his lips. The man noticed and waited to see if anything would happen. After what felt like a minute, Obi-wan leaned into his commander, kissing him.

The kiss only lasted a few seconds before the Jedi pulled away. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I-"

Interrupting him Cody pulled him back into a kiss. "It's okay." The two looked at each other for a moment before Obi-wan laid back down.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

The next day, the two got up. They didn't talk about what had happened the night before until the day was over. "So, what now?" Cody asked.

"What do you mean?"

"Are we going to talk about last night?"

"I've wanted to do that for a while now. I'm sorry if you feel uncomfortable."

"I don't." Sitting on the bed, Cody rested his hand beside him. "I like you, a lot. I'd love to date you, but I can't ask that if you. You're a Jedi."

Obi-wan crawled onto Cody, his legs on both sides of the man. "Don't worry about that. I'd like to be your boyfriend." Then kissed him. The two fell to the bed. Maybe sharing one bed wasn't so bad.

Funny story: I was gonna do hurt/comfort. My only note was "You have til August." I went to write it and figured out I didn't have any ideas previously so I changed the prompt. Next to the "You have til August." I wrote "It's August." I just think it's kinda funny. That's all.

excerpt from the first chapter of my slow burn Vashwood romance, Like Real People Do [regularly updating on ao3!]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The problem was that Wolfwood was in love. Hopelessly, stupidly, pathetically in love with Vash the Stampede. It hadn’t started out that way, of course. Did it ever? All he knew was that somewhere between July and whatever godforsaken town they found themselves in now, he had fallen hard.
The blonde had ridiculous ideals, a bottomless stomach, simultaneously the best aim and the worst clumsiness of any man he’d ever met. He was brave and reckless and foolish and brilliant, and he was utterly out of reach. Wolfwood didn’t suppose that Vash had even considered the possibility that he was anything but a traveling companion, a sidekick. Not maliciously, of course. He figured Vash cared for him about as much as he cared about anyone, that being far too much. But Vash cared about him like a puppy, or a very reliable gun. Wolfwood loved Vash like the sun, like an angel. Like a man.
Tonight, Vash opened a nondescript door in a nondescript lodging house and flipped a smile over his shoulder at Wolfwood. “Only one bed, preacher man.”
Wolfwood looked him up and down. “You don’t usually complain, needle.”
Vash laughed and flounced in, sprawling on the bed with a puff of dust. “I’m still not, don’t worry. Dontcha wish you could bring a girl back or somethin’ though? Must get old havin’ to share with me.”
Wolfwood looked intently at his cigarette. “Sure. But I wouldn’t want ya to get lonely. Not my fault you always strike out.”
Vash pouted. “C’mon, they just don’t know what they’re missin’!” He put on an exaggerated baritone voice. “The six million double dollar man, the Humanoid Typhoon, the peace-loving gunman! Ladies can’t help swooning for me!”
“Yeah, yeah.” Wolfwood smirked. “Just lemme know before you kick me out for your conquests, huh?”
Vash nodded earnestly. “Of course! I’m not a jerk.”
“Tell that to the girls next time.”
Vash sat up on the bed, a hand pressed dramatically to his chest. “You wound me, Nicholas.”
Wolfwood rolled his eyes. “C’mon. You definitely won’t have any luck if we don’t head downstairs before closin’ time.” He hefted the Punisher on his shoulder and sucked in another lungful of smoke.
Vash posed in the room’s cracked mirror, making sure his hair was spiked up as high as possible. “Alright, alright. Let’s go!”
Wolfwood claimed a table in the corner and got to work building a cloud of smoke around himself. Vash leaned on the bar, his red coat fanning out as he gave a megawatt smile to the girl behind the counter. “Two beers please, gorgeous!”
Wolfwood shook his head with something like fondness. Vash always came on too strong. He’d likely be picking up the pieces of the blonde’s broken heart later tonight, but he wouldn’t complain. At least he got to hold something of his.
Vash stumbled his way to Wolfwood’s table a few minutes later, waving a hand to disperse the smoke. “I was cultivating an aura over here,” Wolfwood groused.
“How is anyone gonna see us like that?” He slid Wolfwood a beer. “Here, make this last, alright?” Wolfwood stared into the bottom of his glass as Vash leaned his toned forearms on the table. “I think the bartender girl likes me,” he grinned.
Wolfwood snorted. “Ya mean she didn’t slap you yet?”
“Heyyy they don’t all do that!” Vash whined.
“Whatever you say, blondie. Ya gonna kick me out of the room then? Give a man time to find other arrangements, would ya?
“Nah, it’s not like that. Not yet, anyway. Besides, I don’t wanna get locked down too fast. The night is young!”
“Whatever you have to tell yourself.” Wolfwood pretended not to notice Vash’s failed attempts to wink at the bartender, who was conspicuously avoiding any glimpses toward their table. Eventually the gunman tired himself out and slumped on the tabletop, defeated.
“Maybe I read the situation wrong somehow, Wolfwood. Ya think that’s possible?”
He blew a slow stream of smoke to the ceiling. “It’s not impossible.”
“Awww man! She probably thinks I’m ridiculous.”
Wolfwood stared at Vash long enough that the blonde started to blush. His voice was uncharacteristically soft. “Who cares what she thinks.”
“Hah, yeah. I guess so.” Wolfwood couldn’t take his eyes off the soft pink that dusted Vash’s cheeks, the way it crept down his neck and reached the tips of his ears. It made him dizzy, reckless.
“No really, who cares what she thinks? Anyone would be lucky to be with you, Vash.” The words were out before he could swallow them, and Wolfwood briefly considered drowning himself in his beer.
“Gee thanks, Wolfwood. Guess it’ll be another cozy night for us, then. At least till someone realizes my worth.” Sarcasm lingered on the last word, like he didn’t quite believe it.
The cigarette suddenly felt like it was burning Wolfwood’s lips. He stubbed it out hard on the table, willing the awkwardness to dispel with the smoke. “Well. I’m gonna call it early. Good luck down here.” The priest was up and gone before Vash could protest.
As soon as he disappeared upstairs, Vash slumped down his seat. Why did he always do this? That would’ve been such a good opening, he thought miserably. When was Wolfwood going to realize?
The familiar doubt that haunted Vash reared its head. Wolfwood was never going to realize, because he would never think of him like that. Could never want him like that . Vash wasn’t even human, just a battered, alien thing.
He picked up Wolfwood’s discarded cigarette in shaking fingers and pressed the end to his lips. The paper was cold and damp with Wolfwood’s spit, but the core was still warm. Vash sucked it softly, the acrid burn in the back of his throat like a penance.
I love the bed sharing trope.
Bed Sharing Scenarios
the bed is big enough for two people without touching, but unfortunately there is only one blanket
we’re roommates and you drunkenly passed out in my bed; move over I’m coming in
we have to sleep on the forest ground, so everything can be the bed, but we still sleep close, because we feel too exposed
you woke me up screaming from a nightmare, and I’m tired, so let’s cuddle so the nightmares don’t come anymore
we rented a place together with our friend group for vacation, but there are only double beds in every room and everyone else already found a sleeping partner
our cover is that we're a couple and it only makes sense to sleep in the same bed
we always used to have sleepovers as children, why would it be weird now?
without enough money, I can only pay for one person to sleep in the hotel, so you need to sneak in and we share
we sat on my bed and talked for hours and eventually we just fall asleep
there is only one good pillow and we both don’t the neck pain, so I guess we have to press our heads close together
we’re camping and my tent ripped, can I please share yours?
there was a big party at some people’s house and we wake up in the same bed together, what happened?
we fell asleep on the couch, watching a movie and wake up entangled with each other
we're snowed in and there is not a lot of space and heat
sharing a bed used to be quite normal for us, when did that change?
Legolas/Human Reader (gender-neutral)
Word count: 663
Rating: G
Read on AO3!
Legolas is instantly flustered at the sight of the single bed, his eyes darting between you and the pillows and back again. Despite himself, he’s half-contemplating diving out the window to freedom—but at the look on your face, he forces himself to take a shuddering breath.
You’re more than happy to share the bed, you reassure him: there’s plenty of room, and you’re a heavy sleeper, so he won’t disturb you. But he rejects the offer smoothly. Elves do not sleep like mortals, of course, and he need not lie down to find his rest as you do.
For the first time, he regrets it.
Legolas is a gentleman: he turns away quickly as you slip out of your traveling clothes and boots and slide under the covers, but the rustling of your garments and slide of fabric against your skin is so loud in the silence of the little bedroom, so intimate, that his heartbeat lurches in his chest. By the time he risks a glance back at you, you’re buried in blankets and pillows, looking more at peace than he’s ever seen you.
And now there is nothing to do but wait for dawn.
He pours water over the coals in the fireplace as your breathing evens out in sleep. He paces quietly. He sighs. Time slips by, and his eyes dart to you more and more often.
He’s curious. That’s what he tells himself, anyway. Legolas has so rarely been around mortals, and the way they sleep is fascinating. You’re deeply, wholeheartedly asleep—no wide-open staring eyes, no mind still active and wandering, elf-like.
He’s curious. Your chest rises and falls under the blankets, your breaths even, calm. In through the nose, with the slightest snore, then out through the mouth in a warm puff. He finds himself stepping closer to the bed, transfixed.
He’s curious. That’s all. His elven eyes can make out the darting of your pupils beneath their lids, the slight parting of your lips. He leans closer, unconsciously. Perhaps you’re dreaming—and he hopes, with a sudden jolt, that you’re dreaming of him. And as though in answer, your lashes flutter restlessly, a single word escaping your parted lips: “Legolas.”
Oh, fine. He’s far more than just curious.
Legolas is perched on the bed beside you before he is aware of it, his heart in his throat. Perhaps it meant nothing—very likely it meant nothing, for rarely was there sense to be found in mortal dreams. He should move away, and stop staring longingly at your sleeping form. You would hardly appreciate it if you knew.
Or would you? You had invited him to share the bed with you, after all.
Thoroughly defeated, Legolas slips under the covers to join you. Even in sleep, you’re enough to overpower him. And even in sleep, you turn toward him, clutching at his torso and pressing yourself close. His breath hitches.
Your hands clutch tight to his tunic as you nuzzle into his side, and Legolas curls against you, your legs tangling together. A shudder runs through his body.
He breathes in and out as evenly as he can, in imitation of you, and closes his eyes against the pillows, just as you did. Perhaps he can sleep as you do, just this once, so he can survive this overwhelming closeness. Keep his eyes shut tight and his mind closed off from the world, so he can outlast it.
It frightens him for a moment—the uncertainty of his tight-shut eyes, the lack of awareness of the wider world. How odd this mortal sleep is. It feels like a leap of faith. But your breath is warm and even against his neck, your hair soft as it splays against the exposed skin of his neck and collarbone, and his heartbeat slows, sleep—true sleep—stealing over him at last.
This leap is an easy one to take, for he has faith in you utterly.
