August snippets Day 1: Stalked (Alt Promt)

Fandom: Percy Jackson

Summary: Percy starts to realize something or someone is watching him when he's out with his mom getting ice cream.

Percy knew he was being watched. He had gotten used to the uncomfortable feeling of eyes on him. However most of the time the feeling of being watched went away when he was outside of school or camp.

Instead Percy was getting ice cream with his mom. The two had decided to go out after Percy had passed his first quarter at school. Blue ice cream sat in front of them.

"Is everything okay, Percy?" Sally said. "You haven't had much of your ice cream."

"Yeah. I'm okay." Percy lied. After everything he had gone through, some ice cream and time with him mom sounded perfect. As the two sat at their table, the teen settled in. While the feeling he was being watched stayed with him, the boy started to ignore it.

It wasn't until Sally and Percy had finished their blue raspberry ice cream when the feeling started to bother him again. Sally seemed to realize something was wrong. She looked concerned as she watched their surroundings on the way home.

"You feel it too, don't you?" Percy asked him mother.

Sally nodded and stood a little closer to Percy. "Maybe it's a monster?"

"I don't think so." Percy looked around and sighed. "Let's just go to the park."

    "Okay. I could call Chiron."

    "We'll be fine."

The two walked to the park, never being able to rely. Once there, they talked about what was next. "Maybe it is a monster? I think I should look around."

"Percy" Sally started, "We look together."

"I can't put you in danger. Whoever or whatever is watching us, wants me."

"We go together. I'll be okay. I faced the minotaur, remember?"

    "And almost got killed, remember?"

    "Percy."

    "Okay."

The park was a beautiful place. Sally used to take Percy all the time. He had always shown an interest in the decorative water fountain in the middle as well as any drinking fountains that had been around.

Walking around the park, Sally and Percy tried to find the source of their discomfort. For it being mid-day, there was no one around. The wind blew the  swings gently. "Not creepy at all." Percy said, looking at his mother.

There was a quiet noise in the trees. Percy grabbed his pen and took a step closer to them. Standing right behind her son, Sally prepaid herself for whatever foe may be hidden in the pines and oak trees.

Pulling the leaves back, Percy looked to see what was there. A squirrel ran out from the tree and went up another that wasn't too far from it. "You know, maybe we are just being paranoid."

As the two turned to leave, they realized they weren't alone. Their feelings and been right.

"Hello Percy." Luke Castellan said. "You must be Sally Jackson." The man said as he motioned to Sally with his sword. "It's nice to meet you."

Taking a step back Percy pulled his mother with him. "Luke? How long have you been following me?" Uncapping Riptide, the half-blood placed it between his mother and Luke.

"A few days."

"A few days?!" Percy yelled surprised.

"Leave my son alone!" Ms. Jackson yelled sternly at Luke, putting a hand on Percy's shoulder.

"I'm sorry, I can't. You see, I need your son dead. So-"

"You'll have to get through me."

"Mom. Let me handle it."

Luke looked interested. "Sally Jackson fought a minotaur, I'm sure I'd be no challenge." He joked. Taking a step forward Percy pulled him back with the threat of his blade.

Both demigods knew it was time to fight. They readied their weapons. Percy stood in front of his mother, knowing he couldn't let Luke get close to his mom. Sally was one of the people who Percy loved most. She was his to protect.

As they fought the question of how Luke found him lingered in Percy's mind. "Let me get this straight, you've been following me for days now? Just like that? I never noticed you?"

"Yep. I thought you would be more observant. With everything that's happened, how could you not be?" Luke said as he swung his sword.

It only took one look at his mom for Percy to know why he hadn't realized Luke had been looming; his mother would keep him safe. "You want to know why?"

Luke was an all year camper. Percy never learned what happened to his mother but he knew that it was complicated. As much as he didn't want to, using his mother and his own might help get them out of the situation. After all, his mother was there. Percy couldn't let her get hurt.

"Why?"

"Because I trust my mom."

Luke paused. The words surprised him more the Percy thought they would. Using his hesitation, Percy slashed Luke's arm with his sword.

Jumping back, Luke almost dropped his sword. He looked at his arm, blood pouring from his wound. His eyes landed on Sally who had found a stick to hold, ready to fight if she had to. The man's breath was shaky. With his left arm, the demigod pulled his sword up. "Good for you." Attacking again, Luke swung his sword at Percy, aiming for his chest.

Moving, Percy drug his sword across Luke's side. With Luke behind Percy, Sally had the opportunity to slam her stick over his head, knocking him to the ground. After a moment, Luke sat up and looked around. Percy had a sword at his throat and Sally had her stick hovering menacingly near him.

Swinging Backbiter at the Jackson's feet, Luke stumbled to his feet. He knew he had to escape. Looking around, the man decided the trees would be the easiest place to disappear. Quickly placing his sword in it's sheath, Luke ran into the woods.

When Sally went to follow him, Percy stopped her. "We don't have to follow him. He'll get away anyway. I don't want you to be in anymore danger."

Sally nodded. "So, that was Luke?"

"Yeah." Percy sat down, breathing heavily.

"He seems a lot less though then how you described him."

"He was an all year camper. When I said I had you, it must have messed with him. Trust me, he's not fun to fight."

"Come on, let's go home. Do you want to stop by the candy store and pick up some blue jelly beans and watch a movie when we get home?" Sally helped her some off the ground. She smoothed out his hair and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Hell yeah."

Augusnippets Day 2: Plotnic Bathing

Fandom: Percy Jackson

Summary: After Thalia's death, Luke had to help Annabeth with everything. In hopes of lifting her spirits and finally getting her cleaned off, Luke decided it was time to get her to take a bath.

"Annabeth come on." It had been a few days since Annabeth, Luke, Grover and Thalia arrived at camp. It had been a few days since they had lost Thaila. "You need to get up."

"No." Annabeth whispered. "I don't want to."

Luke sighed. "Please. You need to get out of the bed." He walked over to her with heavy, regretful footsteps. "I miss her too but you have to get up."

"No." The girl pulled her blanket up further. "I can't."

Sitting beside her bed, Luke sighed. "I know it hurts but we have to try. How about we start with a bath?" stretching his arm out to his little sister, he tried to get her to take his hand.

A little hand grabbed his hand softly. "Okay."

With a soft smile, Luke picked some clothes for her and went to meet her. He helped her put her shoes on and waited for her to stand up. "Annabeth? Are you okay?" He asked gently.

The girl started to cry. "I miss her."

"I know. I do too. Here let's try this." Grabbing his bag, Luke put her clothes in it. Then he slowly picked her up. "Is this okay?" The girl nodded and snuggled into the boys chest. "Okay."

The walk to the big house wasn't a long one. Knocking, Luke waited for Chiron to open the door. When he did, Luke informed him that they would be using his bath. Chiron nodded and led them to the bathroom and grabbed a towel. "Let me know if you need anything."

"We will, thank you."

Once in the bathroom, Luke put Annabeth down and locked the door. Then he stopped up the tub. He let the water run warm and put some soap in the water. The boy hoped that a bubble bath might help Annabeth start to feel better. "Okay." He started, still looking at the tub. "You ready?"

When he turned around he realized the girl hadn't moved since he put her down.

It was like she was frozen. Annabeth might not have been physically hurt but her mind was so damaged it paralyzed her. Luke knew he needed to help her, no matter what. It didn't matter how people could see it or how uncomfortable he might be, Annabeth needed him. She couldn't do anything on her own right now. Luke knew Annabeth needed help. He had been making sure she ate, drank, and got up to use the bathroom. As her older brother, it was his job to be there for her.

"Okay. Do you need any help? I can help you." Once more Luke offered her his hand. This time she just looked at him for a moment. Then she slowly nodded. Carefully he removed her shoes and clothes before picking her up and placing her in the warm water. "How's that?"

Annabeth nodded. Shutting the water off, Luke let his sister soak in the water for a moment. It had been so long since they had gotten a chance to bathe. Sure they had gotten to shower but there was always something about letting the water seep into your skin and bones. The hotter the water, the better. However for Annabeth, the water was lukewarm.

Trying to see if Annabeth would wash herself, Luke looked around the bathroom. He hadn't been there before. The walls were mostly just white with some gold trim. After a while Luke asked "You doing okay?"

Annabeth stared at him. Sighing, the boy grabbed the sponge and put some soap on it. "I've got you." Taking show shampoo in his hand, Luke started to massage it into her hair. She seemed to relax as he washed it out. Then he grabbed the conditioner and repeated the process. Gently, Luke took the sponge to her skin. The soap had a fresh, earthy smell to it.

After cleaning her off, Luke drained the tub. Picking her up, he put her on the bath mate. He grabbed the blue towel and wrapped Annabeth in it. "It's your favorite color." Luke smiled. Annabeth tried to.

Looking on the counter, Luke found the hair dryer and plugged it in. "Let's get your hair dry." It took a while before Luke got her blonde hair dry but when he did it was soft. Brading it made it easier to maintain so he did. Brushing her long hair would take energy that Annabeth wouldn't have for a while.

Luke helped his sister get dressed before tying her shoes. "Do you want to go anywhere?"

"Your cabin" Annabeth whispered.

Slightly chucking, Luke smiled. "Okay." He stood and offered his hand to her, trying to get her to walk. With a lot more force than she had used before, Annabeth took his hand and stood up. A wave of relief washed over Luke as they walked to his cabin. Maybe a clean start was what she needed.

Augusnippets Day 3: Thunderstorm

Fandom: EPIC/The Odyssey

Summary: When Telemachus was ten years old, thunderstorms became a common thing in Ithaca. He got used to them. As he walks around the palace, he learns that Odysseus had become terrified of them.

Thunderstorms were a normal thing for Ithaca. Telemachus started to notice more of them when he was 10 years old. He used to fear them. Now he sits by the window and watched with lightning and closes his eyes as he listens thunder and the rain.

It was a stormy night when the boy learned his father was scared of thunderstorms. Penelope has gone to visit Ctimene; someone Odysseus wasn't ready to see again after telling her about Eurylochus.

Listening to the storm, the prince walked around the halls of the palace like he's done since he was young. Stopping in front of his mother and father's room, he felt as if he should go inside.

Without knocking, Telemachus opened the door. Inside Odysseus sat in his bed. His sword was in his hands and his knees were to his chest.

"Dad? Are you okay?" Telemachus asked.

"They're coming." Odysseus said, his voice shaking.

Walking more inside the room, Telemachus approached his father. Odysseus jumped back, surprised by the movement. "who's coming?"

"The Gods." The king said, whispering. "They have come for me."

"It's just a thunderstorm." Telemachus approached his mother's bed and tried to sit down.

Odysseus swung his sword at his son.

"Dad, it's okay. Can you put the sword down?"

After a moment, Odysseus realized what he had done and pulled his sword away for his son. "I'm sorry." As he started to cry, Telemachus sat down with him.

"It's okay. Can I see that?" He gestured to the sword in his father's hands.

Nodding, Odysseus handed it to him. Then Telemachus put it down beside the bed. "The Gods won't get you here. I promise."

"You can't guarantee they won't." The king said softly.

"True, but it will be okay."

"Are you sure?"

"As sure as I can be. I'll be right here, okay? I'm not going anywhere."

Telemachus remembered what it felt like to be scared of thunder when he was little. Now his father was scared of it for a very different reason. Still, he knew that it was a hard thing to be afraid of. Only the gods can control thunderstorms after all.

"Okay." Pudding his knees back down onto the bed, Odysseus tied to relax.

"You know, I used to be afraid of thunderstorms too. I got pretty used to them. No one is going to hurt you here. You're home."

"I'm home." Odysseus repeated.

"Maybe try to sleep?"

"Yeah." Laying down, Odysseus closed his eyes. Telemachus went and sat by the rocking chair that was by a window.

"Thank you son. I love you"

"I love you too, Dad."

Augusnippets Day 4: Amputation

Fandom: The Bad Batch

Summary: Hunter knew standing close to Separatist tanks was dangerous. He didn't expect the one he was next to to blow up and he definitely didn't expect the damage to take his arm.

Hunter knew he shouldn't have been so close to the Separatist tank. While he wasn't sure what had happened after he heard the tank explode, he knew passed out.

One of his few memories involved a medic taking. "Put a tunicate on his arm, he's going to lose the limb anyway. If it gets much worse, we're going to have to do a field amputation."

The clone remembered thinking, "did he just say 'field amputation'?" Trying to argue, Hunter tried to sit up. He found he couldn't move. Then the world went black.

When he woke up, he was in a medical bay. Wrecker sat beside him on a chair. Tech was in the chair in the corner and Crosshair was sitting at the foot of the bed. They were talking about some memories from their cadet years.

As Hunter stirred, he startled Crosshair. "Hunter."

"Yeah" he said quietly.

"Hey! We thought we were going to lose ya!" Wrecked yelled. He stood up and went to hug his brother.

Reacting to the situation, Tech also stood up. "Hugging Hunter is not in his best interest. He is still healing."

"Aww okay." Wrecker pouted. Then he sat back in his seat.

"What happened?" Hunter asked.

"You were injured by shrapnel." Tech began. "The medics brought you to the service location they could find. While there, they made the decision to amputate your left arm at your shoulder."

That couldn't be right. "What?"

"Your left arm has been amp-"

"I think he knows Tech." Crosshair cut his brother off.

"Are you okay?"

Hunter's arm was gone. Moving the blanket, the clone looked at where his arm should be. After a moment, he put the blanket back and just stared at his brothers.

"Are you okay." Wrecker repeated.

"I don't know."

"Losing a body part is a startling process. From the initial trauma to learning to cope with the loss of the amputated limb, it can take a while to fully heal. However, they should be able to fit you with a prosthetic." Tech walked over to Hunter as he talked.

"Something tells me this is not what he wants to hear." Wrecker spoke. He looked at Hunter, "do you want some alone time?"

"Yeah." Hunter didn't look at them. Instead he kept looking at the ceiling.

"We'll be nearby if you need anything." Wrecked touched the end of the bed as he spoke. Then Tech, Crosshair, and him left the room.

Trying to process what had happened to him, Hunter continued to stare at the ceiling. He knows Tech knows what will happen next but he's not sure if he wants to know. Prosthetics had advanced significantly over the years but they could never truly replace a flesh limb.

The amputation was to save his life, Hunter knew this. Still, he wondered why it had to happen. Why did he have to be so close to the tank that exploded? Why did the shrapnel land where it did? Whatever this cruel twist and fate had been, Hunter knew he had to live with it. After all, he had no choice.

Augusnippets Day 5: Drunk Caretaking

Fandom: Star Wars The Clone Wars

Summary: Obi-wan takes care of Anakin after Anakin's 21st birthday.

"This should be a long night." Obi-wan sighed as he watched his Padawan stumble out of the bar. Anakin was 21 now. Maybe it was just wishful thinking that he hadn't drank until then, but still Obi-wan felt he should take Anakin out for his first legal drink.

"Obi-wan" Anakin laughed. "I think I'm drunk."

"Very my friend."

"Can we go home?" Anakin was still laughing.

"Yes. Yes we can." So Obi-wan walked Anakin back to the temple. He grabbed a trash can from the corner of the room and put it beside his old Padawan's bed. Then he sat down with him.

"I'm gonna throw up" Anakin chuckled.

"I know." Grabbing Anakin's long hair, Obi-wan pulled it back. Then, as he said he would, the Jedi threw up. When he was done, the older of the two took a cup of water in his hands and handed it to the other.

That night, Obi-wan pulled up a chair and waited for Anakin to fall asleep. When he did, the other jedi made sure the blanket rested on his body and refilled his water. Anakin was going to have a bad hangover in the morning and Obi-wan wanted to do whatever he could to make sure he could get over it.

After setting the room up, Obi-wan wrote out a small note and placed it on the bedside table. "Dear Anakin. I hope you do not feel too sick this morning. I took you back to the temple, in case you don't remember. Call me if you need anything. Happy birthday. Obi-wan." He figured Anakin would appreciate the message.

Sighing, Obi-wan walked to the door. He smiled as he walked out of the room, making sure the door didn't close too hard behind him. It wasn't hard to guess that Anakin would be a pain in the morning. But you only turn 21 once so at least he had fun. Walking back to his room, Obi-wan couldn't help but smile. At least Anakin was a funny drunk.

Augusnippets Day 6: Ship Wreck

Fandom: Percy Jackson

Summary: The Princess Andromeda crashes on the coast of Oregon. Now Luke must find a way off of the ship before it sinks.

Luke wasn't sure what had happened. Maybe Poseidon had finally gotten ahold of The Princesses Andromeda or maybe it had just been an accident. That didn't matter right now. The ship was sinking.

Running out of his quarters, he looked down the hallway. Water was already starting to trickle in. As a wave hit the ship, Luke slammed into the wall. He felt the jolt of the ship, as if it had hit something.

They had been on the coast of Oregon the last he knew. More then likely they still were. There are places on the west coast that the ocean meets cliffs. Standing, Luke made his way up to the deck of the ship. When he opened the door he found that he was right.

They had crashed into the side of a cliff.

The man knew he needed to make sure others could escape. Losing his whole army would be detrimental, at least that's what he told himself as he ran below deck. Knocking on doors, Luke quickly but calmly, tried to make sure everyone was aware of the situation. He paused before Chris's door before just opening it. That man could sleep through a hurricane.

Shaking him awake, Luke informed him of what was going on. "Shit okay." He said as he pulled his shoes on.

"Get above deck. See if any of the ledges can hold people."

"Okay."

Running back to his room, Luke grabbed his shoes and Backbiter. He shoved the sword into his belt and closed the door when he left. The water had already made its way through most of the hall, the carpet being soaked.

Luke could smell the fire. Most of the time the smell of smoke did not bother him. That night, it attacked his lungs in a way it never had before. It burned. Still there was one more door to check. Letting his shoes get soaked, he forced the last door open. Inside a young half-blood was trying to stand. The water had made the door hard to open.

"Come on." Luke offered her his hand. She took it and they ran out of the hall. The water was up to his knees now. As the ship shook, it took the man's feet out from under him. He fell into the water. "I'll be right there!" He yelled after the girl.

"Okay!" She yelled back.

Steadying himself against the wall, Luke used it to get up. With the water at his knees, it was difficult to run. Still, he pulled himself to the door to go above deck. Slamming it behind him, a wave crashed into the sinking Princess Andromeda. The wave sent him to the ground once more. This time the ship started to shift. The deck was no longer even.

Looking around, Like tired to find a way out. Most of the rock ledges looked to smooth. All but one.

All he had to do was make it to the ledge. Using a wall to stand, the demigod tried to climb his way to the cliff. It felt impossible. The weight of the ship was pulling the vessel into the water faster and faster.

"Come on!" Luke heard a voice yell. It was Chris. "Luke come on!"

"I'm trying!" He yelled back, frustrated with the way things were going. Looking around again, he found a rope that have been tied to the side of the ship. He could use that to climb his way to the side and jump to the ledge.

The problem is getting to the rope. As the ship sank, the deck became more and more steep. It felt like rock climbing and Luke wasn't even on the ledge yet.

Still, he found his way to the rope. Wrapping it around his right arm, he started to pull himself towards the side railing. As another wave hit the ship, Luke slipped some. He yelped as the rope cut into his arm. The light yellow color that the rope normally was started to be covered in red.

Despite his injury, the demigod continued to climb the rope. He found himself at the side railing ready to jump within a minute or so.

The jump was a lot further than Luke had anticipated. From further away, the distance looked shorter. However, it was his only way out. Sighing, the man moved as far back as he possibly could. He readied himself for the jump. Looking to make sure the next big wave was as far away as it could be, Luke decided he had to jump now.

As his feet left the ship, the ship started to sink faster. Missing the ledge with his feet, Luke caught the rocks. His hands felt like they were on fire. Blood dripped from the rocks as he pulled himself onto the ledge.

Sitting down, Luke rested his back against the wet rocks. They felt cool against this body. Looking at his hands and arm, he realized just how much they hurt.

After a moment Luke Castellan and looked around. Everyone he cared about was on a ledge against the coast of Oregon. A brief wave of relief washed over him. Now they just had to figure out how to get off of the rocks and back on solid ground.

Augusnippets Day 7: Waterboarding

Fandom: Spy x Family

Summary: Loid is waterboarded

Loid didn't know what had given him away. All he did know was now he was in enemy territory. He had been on a mission to infiltrate a popular gang in this area. One of the members must have found out he was not there to truly join them.

Despite his abilities, Loid had not expected the gang members to attack him. All it took was one lead pipe to the back of his head and he was lucky to be alive. When Loid woke up, he was in some room. His hands were tied together and he heard what sounded like a sink running.

"Who sent you?" A gang member asked. Loid stayed silent.

"We don't have time for your fucking games man. Who sent you?" Still, Loid didn't answer.

"Alright, you asked for it." One of the gang members grabbed a bucket while another grabbed a cloth. They soaked the cloth and brought it to Loid's face.

Dropping the rag over the spy's face, the gang member poured more water in it. Loid struggled under their grasp, trying to escape. It felt like he was drowning, even if he wasn't. The water coming into his lungs, was painful and had the potential to be deadly. However, at the time he should be okay.

After a moment, Loid tried to calm himself enough to think about how to get out of the situation. Escape was all about the timing. If the man could plan it out to where he used his strength against the others when they didn't have water on him.

So he waited for a moment. Once they ran out of water, Loid took his chance. He attacked them, freeing himself. Shaking the cloth off of his face, Loid headed for the door. Forcing the door to open, he ran down the hall. Now Twilight just had to figure out how to escape the building.

Augusnippets Day 8: Found Family

Fandom: The Bad Batch

Summary: Echo thinks and learns about his new family.

Most of the time you find your family. But sometimes they find you. In Echo's case, they saved him. There was something about the Bad Batch that made him feel safe and wanted. Something he used to have with the 501st before she blew up. So he went with them.

Being a part of their family was new. Echo remembered being called 'a bad batch'. He remembered that he hated it. Now it was a name he picked for himself.

The clone remembered being new to Clone Force 99. It took a while to get used to how they did things. The 501st was crazy and half the time the batch matched that energy. However sometimes they exceed it. Echo wasn't sure how he felt about it, but he knew he would get used to it just like he did before.

Getting used to the batch's personalities and individual quirks took some time.

It was strange that Hunter knew what was coming before it did or knew the weather an hour or so before it happened. The sergeant was sensitive to overly loud noises because be could hear better than the other clones could. If there were too many vibrations and sounds at the same time, he would get nervous or confused. He would also complain about stubbed toes or other injuries more because he felt them deeper than the others.

However Wrecked seemed to complain about small injuries just as much as Hunter did, even though he couldn't justify it with heightened senses. He was a kind man with a lot of energy. It took a while before Echo got used to being picked up while he was being hugged by him. Part of him was still surprised. His blind spot was another thing he had to get used to. Even if he could be childish, Wrecked was the most emotionally intelligent member of the batch.

Lula was Wrecker's stuffed tooka doll. She tended to get shoved into people's faces or chest. Crosshair seemed to receive this treatment the most.

The sniper was standoffish and grumpy. Still, Crosshair had his moments. Sometimes he could manage to be compassionate when Echo really needed it. The man seemed to instigate with the regs as much as or more than Wrecker did. He was also the reason Echo found wooden toothpicks everywhere. When the man would flick them to the ground, he would have to stop himself from making Crosshair pick them up. He knew wood was not the worst thing to be on the ground, but it was still littering.

Tech was the man who carried him out of his prison. He had found out how to free him from Skako Minor. The two had become good friends. The man was dense and straight to the point. His voice wasn't quite monotone but it was close. Most of the time he was looking at a data pad, trying to learn anything he could about their next mission or whatever topic he had found interesting. He wouldn't stop until he knew just about everything he could on the topic and then he would tell someone all about it.

Echo had learned about many strange topics while being talked at with Tech. The clone had told him anything from the mental and physical effects of cannibalism to what kind of bees lived on certain planets. Tech also couldn't stand some textures and made one of his brothers deal with them. He had a habit of offending people which Echo quickly realized wasn't on purpose.

While spending time with them, they all learned about each other. Wrecked told him about explosions and fire. Hunter explained some ways vibrations helped with missions. Crosshair would take him to the range and Tech would share interesting facts about any topic he could think of. Echo found himself making sure he had time for each activity in his day. He would tell them stories about being an Arc Trooper or about his days as a cadet.

It was a late night when Echo realized the people around him weren't just his squad, but his family. He had grown to love them the way he had loved people like Droidbait, Cutup, Hevy, and Fives and he was okay with that. After all, they found him. It was only a matter of time before they became family.

Augusnippets Day 9: Hypothermia

Fandom: The Dragon Prince

Note: This takes place during season 6

Summary: What is Callum had fallen into the frozen sea on Rayla and his way to the Starscraper?

"Ice water is cold." Was the first Callum said when Rayla pulled him out from under the ice. They must have found a weak spot in the frozen sea or maybe it was just the mage's luck.

"Of course it is you dummy." Rayla pulled Callum forwards, trying to get him further from the hole in the ice. He was still coughing as he tried to act like everything was fine.

The wind was cold against the teens skin. Even with his clothing, the wind chill clung to his bones.

"Are you going to be okay?"

"I'm going to have to be." It was unfortunate but true. There was no Callum could go. They had caught fire to the frozen ship. There was no point in going home, it would just make their trip worthless. So they had to go to the Starscraper.

The wind bit at his fingers until they started to become numb. Callum shivered with every step. He refused to tell Rayla; she'd worry too much. The elf would try to help him; which as much as Callum wouldn't have minded, he didn't want her to get hurt.

As they walked, the prince started to feel more and more tired. His breathing quickened. "Can we" Callum shivered, "take a break?"

Rayla walked over to him. She brought her hand up to cuff his face. "Callum you're freezing."

"Nah, you know what that feels like more than I do." Then he leaned into Rayla. "You're really warm." Callum whispered.

"Come here." The elf picked him up. "I'll carry you the rest of the way."

"You don't have to." The human mumbled.

Shaking her head, Rayla pulled Callum closer to him. Hopefully they would arrive at The Starscraper soon.

Augusnippets Day 10: Begging for Mercy

Fandom: The Dragon Prince

Summary: Aaravos tries to argue with Cosmic Judges for Leola.

Aaravos couldn't seem to understand why his daughter was being punished for giving the humans magic. The girl had done it out of love, not mallis. She was young and didn't know she was breaking some old code.

Standing in front of the Cosmic Judges, the startouched elf tried to plead his daughter's case. As they argued, he could feel Leola slipping out of his fingers. Would he really lose his daughter?

"She is but a child!" Falling to his knees, he yelled at the judges. "Show her mercy!"

The judges stayed quiet, cold in their decision. The girl had broken their code. It had been written to keep them safe as well as to protect their future. Now that the humans had magic, their downfall would begin.

"She has broken the cosmic order." The stern one spoke.

"She didn't know any better! I allowed her!"

Leola tugged on her father's clothing, "Daddy?"

Trying to calm his voice, Aaravos spoke. "It's alright. It will be okay." Kneeling down to his daughter, he tried to comfort her.

Deep down, Aaravos knew he would lose. That didn't mean he wouldn't try. After all, how could he give up on his daughter?

So the elf argued. He fought with all of strength; trying to have the judges grant his Leola mercy. Maybe it would be an act of mercy to him too. After all, what kind of parent wants to lose their child before they die?

Augusnippets Day 11: Whumpee wearing Caretakers clothes

Fandom: The Clone Wars

Summary: While in a mission on a frozen planet, Cody falls into a lake. Obi-wan knows it's important to keep him warm.

"Cody!" Obi-wan sled over to him as he fell under the ice. The thickness of the ice was hard to see under the snow. One of the men helped the jedi grab a hold of Cody and pulled him back to the surface. They dragged him away from the opening.

"Are you alright?" Kenobi asked. Cody didn't answer at first. Suddenly being submerged in freezing water had taken his breath away. He just listened to Obi-wan talk. Talking to the men, he told them to find a place to shelter them from the harsh and cold winds. They agreed and went to find a place to set up camp for the night.

As Obi-wan wrapped his clock around the man, Cody finally snapped back to reality. "Obi-wan?"

"Yes love?"

"You're going to get cold" he shivered.

"Oh I'll be alright. Let's get you someplace a little warmer. Then men are.teying to find cover."

Cody pulled the cloth closer to his body. It made him feel a little better. While he couldn't feel the clock's soft texture, he knew it was there. After all, he had felt it many times before.

Helping Cody stand, Obi-wan pulled him close. "Let's find the men."

Augusnippets Day 12: Lost

Fandom: Percy Jackson

Warning: Major character death

Summary: After being sent on a quest, Annabeth, Percy, and Grover find themselves lost somewhere in New Jersey. There they find the mystery monster they were sent to slay.

Looking for Pan was a Satyr's greatest honor. It was also Grover's second greatest honor; his greatest honor was being Percy Jackson's best friend. So when Percy told him to join him on a quest to uncover some mystery monsters, he ran to his side. After all, what are best friends for?

They left with Annabeth shortly after Grover made his way back to camp. Now they were in nowhere New Jersey trying to figure out where to go next.

    "This feels familiar." Percy joked.

    "Yeah." Annabeth smiled.

"There's no threat of war this time!" Grover exclaimed.

"Nope, just some mystery monster that we have to find and kill. Easy enough."

"We've been though worse." Annabeth responded to Percy. It was true, they had been though worse. From preventing a war at the age of twelve to holding up the sky, they faced every problem together.

The woods whisperered with mystery. There was a monster waiting for the teens and they knew it was close. As they grew closer to the monsters lair, Grover knew what it was. "It's a cyclops." He informed his friends.

Annabeth looked a little nervous but she was mostly used to being around them again because of Tyson. "Alright."

"We'll be okay." Grover insured her. They were a little less lost now at least.

Then the monster surprised them. It came out from behind a white oak tree and attacked them with a club. "Why is it always a club?!" Percy yelled.

With no other choice, the group split up. Grover took off further into the woods. He felt like if he looked back, something would get him. Slowing down, the satyr stopped figure out where he was.

As he wandered around, Grover tied to find his friends. "Percy! Annabeth! Where are you?!" The stench of the cyclops hadn't left his nose yet. They were loud creatures. Grover knew it was near him. He could swear he heard Percy yell for him.

The cyclops swung a hand down, slamming Grover into some nearby rocks. He heard his bones brake on impact. Still he tried to stand. The satyr was able to pull himself to his feet and take a few steps forwards before collapsing. He tried to call out, but found it almost impossible to breath, let alone speak. It felt like his body was shutting down.

Blood surrounded his body. Grover knew somewhere Percy would be frantically searching for him. The teen wasn't sure how much time had passed. He could hear Percy talking to him in his head. "Don't give up! Hold hold!" But as the sky was starting to fade from view, Grover knew he wouldn't make it.

Percy collapsed to the ground when Grover died. His breathing was off. Annabeth grabbed him and pulled him away from the cyclops that had since found them. "What?" She asked, nervously.

Shaking, Percy tried to stand back up. "He's gone." Tears ran down his face.

After getting Percy to safety, Annabeth took on the cyclops alone. Eventually she was able to slay it.

"We should bring his body back to camp" Percy started. "We can at least do that right?"

Resting a hand on Percy's shoulder, Annabeth reminded him that when satyrs die, they are reborn as plants. There was no body to be found. Now Grover would remain in the woods, forever lost.

Augusnippets Day 13: Forced to Watch (alt prompt)

Fandom: Percy Jackson

Summary: Luke tries to spare Annabeth during The Titan's curse. Percy can do nothing but watch from his dreams as this happens.

"The girl is of no use to us." A voice said. Percy still wasn't sure who was talking.

"She can be used as bait for the half-bloods." Luke said. Annabeth lay on the ground.

"The goddess will also serve that purpose. There is no need to keep the young half-blood alive. Kill her."

Luke looked distraught. "No. The half-bloods have a personal attachment to her. They are more likely to come for Annabeth; especially Poseidon's son." He walked over to Annabeth. as if he would protect her.

If Percy didn't know better, he'd say Luke didn't want her dead. However he'd ordered her death half a year ago. That couldn't be the case.

The man didn't seem to want to budge. Percy wanted nothing more than step in and save her like she had done for him. However, he couldn't move. After all, this was simply a dream. All he could do was watch and hope that Luke convinced him to leave her alive.

"Leave the young maiden alone." Artemis argued.

Luke looked over the goddess then back to the Titan. He whispered as he spoke. "Please, do not make me kill her."

The Titan didn't move or speak. He just waited for Luke to get over his idea of saving Annabeth and kill her.

"If you will not show her mercy" Luke kneeled in front of the figure. "Show me mercy. I ask you, do not kill my sister." The demigod's voice shook.

Percy felt his blood go cold. Luke was begging for Annabeth's life and he couldn't do anything about it.

"Kill the girl Castellan. Prove to me you can do it or I'll have to report your failure." The enemy's voice was harsher than it had been.

Luke was faced with a choice; kill Annabeth or betray Kronos. Trying to help, Percy started to yell out to Luke and Annabeth. "Annabeth! Annabeth, get up!"

"Annabeth, could be a strong ally. Let me talk to her, maybe she will align."

"Take the deal!" Percy yelled, knowing his voice couldn't be heard.

"Kill that daughter of Athena!" The voice shook though the cavern.

Tears filled Percy's eyes and he saw that they also filled Luke's. This was never really in either of their hands. Taking a look at his sword, Luke raised it. He turned towards Annabeth. "No!" Percy yelled out.

Then he woke up, unaware of Annabeth's fate. Tears fell down his face as he realized there was only one way to find out if she was alive. He would have to go to her.

Augusnippets Day 14: Gifts

Fandom: EPIC: The Musical

Summary: Some crew members make Ody and Eury flower crowns.

It had been Polites who said they should make a gift for their captain and second in command. A few crew members tried to figure out what they give them. Eventually they discovered a nearby field that was over run with flowers.

"Do you know how to make flower crowns?" Polites asked. The men looked at each other, something nodding and others looking lost. "I'll show you!"

So Polites grabbed some flowers and sat down in the grass. Slowly, he instructed his friends how to make a flower crown. After a while, they finished their crafts. Now they had a variety of flower crowns that were all different colors. The crew just needed to find their officers.

Eurylochus and Odysseus had been talking when Polites walked up to them. "We have a surprise for you." He said. From behind his back, the man pulled two flower crowns out. One was mostly orange and red and the other consisted mostly of white and purple. "We made these for you!"

Surprised, the two men smiled. "Thank you." Odysseus said, taking his crown. Behind Polites, the soldiers seemed very happy that their gifts were received well.

Gently, Eurylochus took the orange and red flower crown and put it on his head. He smiled and looked back at the crew. "Thank you."

The men smiled as they pulled out their matching flower crowns. They walked up to Polites and gave him one. Since he had taught them, the men wanted to give him something in return.

Perimedes handed it to him. It was almost completely white and yellow. "Oh thank you!" Excitedly, Polites let Perimedes place it in his head. Odysseus smiled at the small gesture. Adjusting the crown, the king knew he preferred the soft feeling of the flower crown then the metal of his real one.

Augusnippets day 1

Gaslighting/Brainwashing/Hypnosis

Content– gaslighting, pet whump, police, hospital.

Whumpee awoke in the night to the sound of sirens. He jumped up, scrambling to the window and looking out. Red and blue lights dazed him, and he pulled away, covering his eyes. The sounds of car doors slamming shut sent him into a frantic kind of panic, and he ran for Whumper's bedroom.

"Sir!" he cried, grabbing the hand that hung off the side. "Sir, wake up! There's sirens, a- and there's lights, and people are here—"

Whumper sat up, sucking in a breath. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, grabbing Whumpee's cheeks. His voice was serious, with a hint of panic creeping through, "Whumpee. The cops are here for me. They are going to take you away from me," Whumper explained, running his right hand through his trembling pet's hair. "I need you to listen. They will try to lie to you, try and fill your head with their words, and convince you I'm a bad guy so that they can send me to jail. You can NOT, under any circumstance, let them get to you, do you understand?"

Whumpee began to tear up, shaking his head frantically. "No, no, why? Why are they taking me?" he cried, grabbing at Whumper's sleeves. "Did I do something bad?"

"No, dear. They— they don't... approve of relationships like ours, see? They'll tell you that I kidnapped you, that I abused you. This is not true. Do you understand me, Whumpee?" Whumper grew more serious.

"What? No, you- you saved me! You trained me to be good! You aren't a kidnapper!" Whumpee blubbered, flinching as hard knocks sounded on the front door. "No, I can't—" he choked on his own words, interrupted by Whumper's steady voice.

"Do you understand, Whumpee?"

Whumpee nodded tearfully, hiding his head between Whumper's knees. He only looked back up when something bumped against his head. He looked up to see his stuffed bunny, which Whumper handed down to him.

There was a bang as the door was knocked down, and footsteps thundered into the house. Whumpee squealed as cops filled the room, guns aimed at Whumper. He ducked down when they began to bark commands, clutching his bunny as he cried.

The cops grabbed Whumper, cuffing him and dragging him away. Whumpee couldn't help but sit up, crying out, "Whumper!"

Two more cops crouched down to grab Whumpee, scooping him up and bringing him towards the door.

As he was brought outside for the first time in years, Whumpee searched frantically for his owner. He caught a glimpse of his face through the barred windows of the cop car's backseat and called out again, only to be hurried into an ambulance.

Whumpee was dimly aware of his bunny being pulled off his chest, of gloved hands easing him onto the stretcher, of machines beeping around him. He seemed to blink, and all of a sudden, he was in a hospital bed with IVs in his arms and his precious bunny at his side again.

A doctor was talking to him, probably— he could see lips moving, but in the haze of the situation, he heard only noises, not words. Whumpee was only thinking about his owner, his poor, poor Whumper in trouble all because of him. Whumpee could only clutch his bunny and cry, inhaling the remnants of Whumper's scent on its dingy fur.

That’s whump of one of my worst fears, thank you

day 13: drugging/poisoning/cannibalism

content: noncon drugging, sickfic

“I don’ feel so well…” Whumpee slurred, head lolling to the side. “I don’t— the world… is tilting…”

“Shh, it’s okay,” Caretaker tried gently. “It’s gonna be okay, yeah? It seems, um… It seems you’ve been drugged, but don’t freak out— it’s likely nothing horrible. You just have to sleep it off.”

Whumpee’s eyes widened. “D-Drugged?”

“It’s nothing lethal. I know. We checked for that in your system, and it’s nothing lethal. I swear.”

Whumpee tried to wriggle out of Caretaker’s hold, but in their state, that was no small feat. They could barely lift their head. “We need to get it out… We need… We need to get it out…”

“It’ll clear out of your system naturally, don’t worry about it—”

“No!” Whumpee was filled to the brim with artificially induced paranoia and they weren’t backing down. “No, I need it out, now. Make me throw up. Do something.”

“Whumpee, no.” Caretaker pushed them back down onto the bed, more firm this time. “It’ll be gone by the morning. Just rest.”

Whumpee closed their eyes, but it only served to make the dizziness worse. “I can’t do this all night… Please…”

Caretaker caressed their cheek gently, shushing them. “I know. I know it’s bad. But it’s all gonna be okay — I’m gonna be here all night, looking after you. It’s gonna be okay.”

day 31 — bonus day :) write whatever you feel like writing today or have a nice day of rest

AuguSnippets is an event that encourages the short and sweet of the whump genre. Ideally, your drabbles would be under 500 or even under 100 words, maybe even just a dialogue prompt. This, however, does not mean I won't reblog longer prompt fills! Don't stress too much on that limit. I just think it's sometimes nice to challenge yourself to write shorter drabbles, and it can also work as a very good exercise to write daily or semi-daily, and it doesn't need a lot of prep.

As for tagging your work, please use the appropriate trigger warnings. This is so everyone can stay safe and avoid potentially triggering topics while participating. Also, if your work is nsfw, please don't forget to tag it as mature content! If your work is not tagged properly, I won't be able to reblog it! Thank you!

Our special tag will be "#augusnippets day [x]". On the first day that would be "#augusnippets day 1". This is so I and others can find your work easier! You can also tag the blog, that's an even more surefire way to get me to notice your prompt fill :)

Is this a writing only event?

Yeah, this one is exclusively writing focused.

Do I have to use the special tag or tag this blog?

Not if you don't want to get featured on this blog :) It's just so I can find your work easier and reblog it here! If that's not something you're interested in, just scribble away without it.

Is the "under 500" a hard limit for the word count?

No, but I encourage everyone to try and keep to it in the spirit of this event.

Can I submit nsfw works?

Yes! Just please tag it properly :)

Can I mix and match the prompts from different paths?

Yes! Have fun!

What do I need to do to get the completionist badge?

Either you need to complete one whole path, or complete 10 prompt fills altogether while mixing and matching. Those who complete all 30 days (and maybe even the bonus day) will get something extra special!

Can I write fandom related things?

Yes! This event is both for original characters and fandom related writing.

Augusnippets Day 2: platonic bathing | hair care | makeup

Word count: 500

Trigger warnings: none

——————(0)——————

"Are you done yet?"

A nearly-inaudible, long sigh came from behind Brier, before Karmic said, “Say that again, and I’ll cut your throat instead of cutting your hair.”

“Young lady, do not make me turn this car around!” Brier said, dropping her voice low, then giggled. “That’s what you sound like right now.”

“Young lady, do not make me stab your carotid with these scissors,” Karmic immediately deadpanned back. Said scissors made a snick-snick noise, slicing through more of Brier’s hair.

“Ha, see—? Oh no, shh, shh, I’m sorry, Sor, sorry, sorry, rest your tired eyes,” Brier sang, fingers running over Sor’s fur. The touch of magic in her words made the cat settle down again, his eyes sliding closed. Brier hummed a few aimless notes, slowly stroking down the length of Sor’s spine, before she reached out from under her protective cape for the half-made straw sandal she’d abandoned to placate Sor.

“You—” A yawn interrupted Karmic’s sentence—it was silent, but Brier could hear his jaw creak, could picture the one eye Karmic always kept open when he yawned. “You’ve done that … three times now? You’re putting me to sleep, dirthead. You’ll end up lopsided and laughed at because you enforced naptime on your hairstylist.”

“I can’t help it!” Brier whispered, starting to weave a careful distance from where Sor was dozing across her lap. “Don’t move while a cat is on your lap or you’re the worst human in the world, that’s the rule. You know that, that’s why you put him there to begin with.”

“It’s for your own good,” Karmic said, unrepentant. “Every time I thought about your sheer amount of split ends, I fantasized about freezing you into a giant block of ice except for your head and giving you a haircut. You got off easy.”

“I guess I did,” Brier sighed. “Honestly, who can blame me? He’s trapped me, but he’s the cutest trap in the world.”

“Correct answer.” The tug of the clips in her hair released, and a comb glided over her scalp without meeting any resistance. “Okay, now I’m done.”

“Yaaay!” Brier quietly cheered, now having the freedom to turn her head. Karmic was leaning back a little to inspect his work—his face was as severe as ever, but there was a softness to the corners of his eyes, and a jaunty, almost triumphant trill had risen out of the quiet, mellow tune his emotions had become.

“Thank you!” she continued. She tilted her head, and said, “Is there something you want help with for your hair?”

A beat, as Karmic went still, both in body and emotions. Then he huffed, the meditative tune coming back, and as he turned in the direction of their broom closet, he said, “I think Sor’s got you occupied at the moment.”

As he walked away, Brier smiled, eyes catching on the tufts of hair on the floor. After all, she’d learned how to listen for the ‘later’ implied, how he’d never said no.

Voltaic Refeeding

Augusnippets day 3: thunderstorm | blizzard | heat wave

Word count: 499

Trigger warnings: mentions of eating, electric shock, burns, blood, fear of death

——————(0)——————

Camlanns were born attuned to the elements. Magic wove them into being just as much as DNA, and they needed magic just as much as they needed food or air. This was easy, for some—if you were attuned to earth, wind, plants, water, physics, all you needed was to touch it to feed on the ambient magic, and you were set.

For Ruika, attuned to electricity, that was harder. Tal had told him that there were people thinking about using electricity to power lights and heat in a house, but for now, fire magic was used to bring fire, light magic to produce light. Outside of combat and nastier warding styles, no one had really incorporated electricity into their life, and Ruika did not want to get in the practice of getting beaten up by wards or people just to try and keep himself healthy.

So, when summer rolled around, the air turning souplike and clouds becoming dark with the promise of rain, Tal whipped out all his governmental real-time storm maps, Piri rented a mobile, and the three of them went storm-chasing.

Lightning was an excellent source of electricity for Ruika. Electricity naturally bent towards him, knowing he was a home for it, which was great when he was fighting lightning mages and even better when he wanted to get struck multiple times in one storm. The rest of the time, Piri and Tal set up warded spheres to catch lightning, to feed him for the rest of the year when storms were rarer. It really was the best way to keep his magic stores from withering and him dying of starvation!

It also, Ruika reflected, hand raised to the roiling sky and shaking, just could be really very dangerous.

His ears had ceased to hear anything but a high-pitched, screaming whine. He was somewhere between feeling nothing but tingling numbness and like he was about to explode, the telltale sign that he’d eaten a little too well, and like a starving person gorging themself, that was going to have some immediate, horrible consequences. Distantly, he knew he was burned all over to the point of burst, bleeding blisters, even if he couldn’t feel the blood trickling over his skin.

Somehow his arrhythmic, rabbit-quick heart found it in itself to leap in fear when his smearing vision managed to catch a flicker of light in the billowing darkness above. The three strikes in quick succession before had destroyed his ability to withstand any more voltage. If he got struck again—

The world went white.

He registered his vision jarring—had his knees given out? He couldn’t care, around the agonizing numbness, around the sight of a copper, spiky rod above him, now sizzling with the heat of catching lightning before he could. He saw a blur of red—candy-red, Piri-red. Oh, she’d put the lightning rod there.

And then any coherent thought was lost to the blinding torture of a brick-red, Tal-red blur picking him up and sweeping him away.
