Solitaire ist eine abgelegene Siedlung am Rande des Namib-Naukluft-Nationalparks, die seit mehr als 60 Jahren ein willkommener Zwischenstopp ist. Ein durstiger Reisender findet kalte Getränke, Eis, Backwaren, Kaffee und Mittagessen. Für die lange Fahrt von Sesriem nach Swakopmund kann man Benzin tanken, Reifen reparieren lassen und die Beine vertreten.

Forty kilometres east of Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Mubala Camp is tucked away under a canopy of green. Formerly known as Island View, this camp provides the creature comforts for the city-slickers without taking away from the outdoors experience. Safari camping on the banks of the Zambezi River takes camping to an entirely new level. Eight safari tents (sleeping four) with en-suite bathrooms provide comfortable Zambezi homes. Guests have the option of cooking up a storm in their fully-equipped kitchens, having a bite to eat at the camp’s restaurant or picking up a braai pack for a hearty barbeque.

Es gibt verschiedene Versionen, warum der Flughafen so weit von der Hauptstadt entfernt gebaut wurde. Das erste und offensichtlichste ist, dass eine große, für den internationalen Flughafen geeignete flache Fläche eben nur 40 km von Windhoek entfernt verfügbar war. Eine weitere Begründung führt die starken Winterwinde in Windhoek an, die für Flugzeuge gefährlich werden.

A small adder, averaging 25 – 40 cm with a maximum length of nearly 60 cm and usually has two prominent horns – one above each eye. It is widespread occurring from the Eastern Cape to the Western Cape, Northern Cape, North West, Gauteng and Limpopo, as well as further north. There is a great deal of colour variation and this is usually linked to the colour of the sand in the area. When approached it inflates the body and hisses loudly and will strike repeatedly. The Horned Adder is most active at dusk and early evening and spends most of the day in the shade of shrubs or rocks. The venom of this snake is mildly cytotoxic, causing swelling and much pain, accompanied by shock and local necrosis. Antivenom is not effective and is not required.

Eine kleine Otter, durchschnittlich 25 – 40 cm mit einer maximalen Länge von fast 60 cm und hat normalerweise zwei markante Hörner – eines über jedem Auge. Sie ist weit verbreitet und kommt vom Eastern Cape bis zum Western Cape, Northern Cape, North West, Gauteng und Limpopo sowie weiter nördlich vor. Es gibt viele Farbunterschiede, dies hängt normalerweise mit der Farbe des Sandes in der Umgebung zusammen. Bei Annäherung bläst sie den Körper auf und zischt laut und schlägt wiederholt zu. Die Hornotter ist in der Dämmerung und am frühen Abend am aktivsten und verbringt den größten Teil des Tages im Schatten von Sträuchern oder Felsen. Das Gift dieser Schlange ist leicht zytotoxisch und verursacht Schwellungen und starke Schmerzen, begleitet von Schock und lokaler Nekrose. Gegengift ist nicht wirksam und wird nicht benötigt.

Sossus Oasis Camp is practically situated right in front of the entrance gate to the Namib-Naukluft National Park (Sossusvlei) at Sesriem, the area well known for the towering red sand dunes of the Namib Desert and the awe inspiring depths of the Sesriem Canyon. This new camp site offers in a clean, tidy and well kept environment 12 camping units, arranged in a semi-circle to afford privacy with views. Each unit has its own toilet, washbasin, hot/cold shower, kitchen wash-up facilities, light, BBQ and 220V electricity point. Other centralised facilities include a sparkling pool and, just a short walk away, a fully stocked shop, take-away meals, groceries, toiletries, drinks, ice, internet, clothing, curios, fuel, diesel and tyre workshop.

Das Sossus Oasis Camp befindet sich praktisch direkt vor dem Eingangstor zum Namib-Naukluft-Nationalpark (Sossusvlei) in Sesriem, dem Gebiet, das für seine hoch aufragenden roten Sanddünen der Namib-Wüste und die beeindruckenden Tiefen des Sesriem-Canyons bekannt ist. Dieser neue Campingplatz bietet in einer sauberen, ordentlichen und gepflegten Umgebung 12 Campingeinheiten, die in einem Halbkreis angeordnet sind, um Privatsphäre mit Aussicht zu bieten. Jede Einheit verfügt über eine eigene Toilette, ein Waschbecken, eine Warm- / Kaltwasserdusche und eine Küchenzeile, Licht, Grill und 220V Stromanschluss. Zu den weiteren zentralen Einrichtungen gehören ein Pool und nur einen kurzen Spaziergang entfernt, ein gut sortierter Laden, Mahlzeiten zum Mitnehmen, Lebensmittel, Toilettenartikel, Getränke, Eis, Internet, Kleidung, Kuriositäten, Kraftstoff, Diesel und Reifen.

East Fort Battery c.1782 is one of four coastal fortifications built and developed in Hout Bay during the period 1781–1806. Hout Bay was seen by the government of the day as the soft-underbelly of Cape Town, exposing it to a possible marine invasion from the South. It was preceded by West Fort, on the western side of the Bay which was established by the Dutch East India Company (DEIC) in 1781 and completed by the French Pondicherry Regiment based in the French Enclave City of the same name approx.50 miles south of Madras.

East Fort Battery c.1782 ist eine von vier Küstenbefestigungen, die zwischen 1781 und 1806 in Hout Bay gebaut und entwickelt wurden. Hout Bay wurde von der damaligen Regierung als die Schwachstelle von Kapstadt angesehen, die einer möglichen Marineinvasion aus dem Süden als Einfallstor dienen könnte. Ihm ging das West Fort auf der Westseite der Bucht voraus, das 1781 von der Niederländischen Ostindien-Kompanie (DEIC) gegründet und vom französischen Pondicherry-Regiment mit Sitz in der gleichnamigen französischen Enklave-Stadt ca. 80 Meilen südlich von Madras fertiggestellt wurde.
