So I just had a very wholesome and unexpected evening

So I was watching some vids about the Olympic Muffin Man, and amongst the videos, I found one with the recipe! I HAD to go to the store and get the ingredients I didn't have on hand. As I was driving through my neighborhood, I saw a lady walking a cute, fluffy dog. The dog looked just like my late dog Kati. For some reason, I actually stopped, rolled down my window, and said, "Your dog is so cute! She reminds me of my old dog." And the nice lady walked up to me and held her dog up to my window so I could pet her. I hadn't expected that! After I gave the pup a few head scratches, I said thank you and continued on my way. After I got to the store and found what I needed, I was headed to the checkout when "I Want it That Way" started playing over the music speakers. I started to sing it quietly to myself, chuckling a bit. And then, as I approached the register, I heard the guy who was busy cleaning the store singing it too. Not quietly. He wasn't embarrassed, he didnt care if anyone heard him. I started to sing a little louder, too. He came over to the register so I could pay for my groceries, we both said "Hi," And then, as I was paying, he began to sing again. So I sang along, too. Now that I'm back home, I've gotten to thinking. I could have easily just thought, "Oh, that's a cute dog," and kept driving to the store. I didn't have to sing along with that store worker, but I did. There is something so beautiful about just interacting with people. As much as I like my alone time, I like to be around people just as much. In Genesis, God stated that "it was not good for man to be alone," so he made Eve. We weren't made to be isolated and alone. We were made to experience and enjoy life together.

So don't be afraid to be yourself around others. You might get to pet a cute puppy or harmonize with a random store worker. :)

Finding Balance

After he is retrieved from the lighthouse by his brother and new friends, Echo must adjust to his new life. Even though his new home and family are amazing, it's still so different from what he's used to. Maybe a walk in the city will help clear his mind.

Again, so sorry it's late, the story kinda of spiraled into a longer and longer project. I have more chapters coming soon, I just have to edit them.

@ninjago-fic-fest I don't know if this technically counts as part of your event since I was late, but I figured I'd let you know it's posted now.

Okay, so I get off work at 10, and I still have to drive home, so that's approximately...

Here’s the countdown, y’all! Excited for round 2 reveals!

Echo was still surveying the little shop, noting the paintings on the side wall, when Nelson grabbed his hand, startling him.

“Come on!” he said, pulling him toward the front counter, “You’re going to love this!”

The pair stopped in front of the glass window of the ice cream freezer, the colorful treats on full display within.

“Alright, which flavor do you want, Echo?” Nelson asked, clearly excited to introduce his new friend to the wonder of ice cream.

“Whoa there, Nelson,” a kindly voice said, “Why don’t you give your friend here a minute to decide,”

Echo looked up from the cartons of ice cream to see a large man behind the counter, wearing a yellow apron and hat.

He gave Echo a friendly smile, “It’s alright, son, take all the time you need,”

(In the process of giving Echo a new friend and an adventure in the city, I also ended up creating Mr. Randy, one of the workers at the Dairy Dragon. He's like that wholesome, middle-aged uncle that calls everyone "son" and "buddy" and "buckaroo." Sometimes, the OCs happen when you're not even trying.)

Me, writing my Ninjago Fic:

Alright, so these two side characters are going to become friends. This one definitely has Adhd and likes to talk a lot, he's very encouraging and excited. The other is probably Autistic, is quieter, and likes to listen to his friends' ramblings. He'll interject his opinion every once and a while but not too often. They really enjoy each other's company because one doesn't have to think of what to say next, and the other has someone who actually listens to him.

Me, realizing:

I just wrote Ninjago "Phineas and Ferb"

YES!!! I love it! This detail makes me happy. (On a side note, I really hope we see Ed and Edna again in Dragons Rising. They are just the sweetest parents ever!)

I like all the instances of Jay giving someone a little wink as a means to show support

No way!!! I have a Serpintine OC named Akari, too! She was part of a trio of Ninjago OCs, and I had planned to draw their adventures. Unfortunately, I never got around to developing their story.

(These drawings are a bit older, so don't look at them too hard. 😜)

You know what? I think I headcannon Echo as shorter than Zane.

Like, Dr. Julien probably used the same blueprints, but it seems to me that since he was building vehicles for Samuki, Echo was probably built out of whatever spare parts he could salvage from those projects.

I mean, I don't know about you, but if I had a hostage building stuff for me, I would only give him the parts and tools that were necessary, lest he build something to help him escape.

So, to me Echo is shorter than Zane because Dr. Julian was working with limited materials.

Ninjago Treasure Planet Au

So, I watched "Treasure Planet" and, um....I made this. Took me forever cause I just kept adding more frames as I went. Will I expand on this AU? Maybe? I already have a couple writing projects going at the moment so it might be a bit before I get to it.

Funnily enough, when in the middle of animating, I saw this comic posted by @crypticscarecrow that is also a "Treasure Planet" Ninjago AU. Great minds think alike! Can't wait to see more of your version! It looks quite intriguing!

BONUS

(Don't worry, Cole is indeed concerned for Nya. He's just not passing up a chance to tease the new guy.)

In my version, Nya is the captain of a solar ship, and the rest of the ninja are her crew. Jay joins as a mechanic for the solar engines so he can try to earn some money. Edna was not particularly keen on the idea of her son going to space, but Jay and Ed finally convinced her to let him go. Selling junk doesn't make much money, and Jay isn't the type of person to just sit around when he can do something to help others, especially his parents.

In this scene, the crew is hiding out in a cave after a particularly nasty fight with the dreaded pirate crew of the "Misfortune's Keep," which is led by the infamous pirate captain Nadakahn. Nya was, unfortunately, injured quite badly in the fight that ensued. After their ship "The Bounty" was commandeered, the crew found shelter on the planet below them.

The crews positions are as follows.

Nya: Captin

Kai: First Mate

Zane: Helmsman

Cole: Amunitions Officer

Lloyd: Seaman

Jay: Engine Mechanic

OK y'all, I'm about to re-start an old Ninjago animation I never finished. I feel like I've progressed in my art style and I want to give it another go.

The only problem is, I haven't quite figured out how to draw Serpentine faces.

Like, they look fine, I guess, in my old style, but...

Are there any artists out there who have some tips on how to draw snake faces and Serpentine in general? Are there any artists' work I could use as a reference to get my shapes right?

Any help would be appreciated.

“Do you know Dr.—”

“Julian. Yes. He was the one who made me. He was...he was my father,” the stranger finished.

The visitor's eyes were shimmering with tears. Zane hadn't quite expected that.

And then, the stranger leapt forward and wrapped his arms around him.

Zane jerked back in surprise, but the stranger who looked like him only pulled him closer.

And suddenly, the pieces fell into place.

“A-are you, my brother?”, Zane whispered.

“I think so,” the stranger replied.

To the person who submitted the prompt for Echo exploring Ninjago City, don't worry! That's coming. I just had to get him out of the lighthouse first.

(At this point in the story, I still refer to him as Zane since Jay giving him the nickname "Echo" was erased from the timeline. I really hope it's not too confusing for the first scene.)

A quick glance at the nightstand tells me it's 10:03AM. I stretch my arms above my head before moving to a sitting position, the standard hotel white duvet rustling with every miniscule movement.

I grab my phone off the charging stand and quickly swipe through all of the notifications. After getting back to the hotel last night, we all went to our separate rooms. When Jace didn't follow me as he normally did, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at not talking with him well into the early morning hours.

Uhhhh idk i tried

rotating some conversations that I've had around in my head about art and what makes it meaningful and can we really qualify the birds which weave beautiful nests and the fish which draw patterns on the floor on the sea as artists when all they are doing is following their instincts and I am in my corner banging pans and weeping because IT'S GOD, IT'S GOD'S ART, IT'S GOD'S ART EXPRESSED THROUGH THE CANVAS OF CREATION, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BE NORMAL ABOUT THIS WHEN NATURE IS NOT THE ARTIST, IT IS THE ART

Oh my gosh guys, guys, guys!!!

Idea time!!!

I personally can't see Arin going fully evil.

I can definitely see his frustration and anger, but he's a good kid, and I dont think he'd do anything malicious on purpose. But I do think he's in a prime position to get manipulated right now. He's at his lowest point, and he could possibly be willing to do anything to impress and prove himself to Llyod.

What I think would be really interesting is if, via manipulation, Ras could get Arin to let his guard down and maybe even get him to listen to his point of view a bit.

("I lost my parents too, you know, and I found a way to make it on my own. I had to be strong. I learned that i didn't need anyone else, only myself." I don't know. That might be an angle that Ras could exploit, effectively drawing Arin away from his friends.)

(I mean, I'm assuming, according to that flashback sequence, that Ras's parents weren't really around.)

Maybe Arin would even start to trust Ras a little. Or at least start to doubt Lloyd's methods of teaching. (Which to be honest, Lloyd, you're not doing yourself any favors with your teaching technique, buddy. I know you're trying to encourage the kid, but you're giving him an unrealistic idea of a future self he has to measure up to.)

I think Arin is putting a lot of pressure on himself too.

So Arin doesn't necessarily join Ras, but somehow ends up facing off with him a bit more than usual during fights or something. Ras singles him out, trying to plant more of those seeds of doubt. Maybe Ras gets him alone, and, either willingly or by force, Arin ends up wearing a wolf mask.

I mean, is Shatterspin technically evil if you're using it to fight bad guys? I mean, it's not like his own spinjitzu is helping anyway.

Maybe, Lloyd or Sora look over and see Arin wearing the mask. Maybe they run to him, and ask what the heck he is thinking!

Maybe Arin is embarrassed. He feels sorry and ashamed. He knows he made a mistake. He goes to take the mask off.

But before he can, the gong is struck, and his soul is shattered.

All of the emotions come flooding out. He's angry. So very angry. Angry at Llyod for putting all this pressure on him. Angry at Sora for progressing so far and leaving him behind. Angry at himself for not doing something, SOMETHING, more to find his parents.

We get a scene similar to that bit in Season 4 with Kai and the staff of elements. Arin just loses control, and all the anger, doubt, and fear come spewing out.

That's what I want.

I want him to voice his frustrations to his friends. And at the moment, I think Arin is just so nice that he doesn't want to bother anyone and isn't going to say anything.

But as the saying goes, "even a worm will turn"

In other words, even the nicest and sweetest people will show you how dangerous they can be if pushed too far.

So, um. Arin deserves to go feral. Just as a little treat.
