I've been thinking about books a lot. I always tell people I don't have a favorite, or even a handful of favorites, but now I think that my favorites must be the ones I continue to think about the most. So here are the 10 books that have stuck with me the most, in no particular order:

The Song of Achilles by Madeleine Miller

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Kindred by Octavia Butler

Wolf Hall & Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel

Doomsday Book by Connie Willis

Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

I would really love to hear about everyone else's top 10! Tagging @glassprism @bogglebabbles @jennyfair7 @forestscribe4 @pianomanblaine @a-partofthenarrative @les-gnossiennes-fantomatiques @emotionalmotionsicknessxx @meilas and anyone else who would like to participate, but no pressure!!

My thoughts exactly

sometimes i wonder what must it be like

to have a father you can talk to

without your breath getting stuck in your throat

or your heart pounding so hard like it'd burst

i wonder what it's like to have a father

you are not afraid of.

sometimes i wish i had a normal relationship

with the one man I'm supposed to trust in my life

instead, I'm afraid of him as am I

of any other man who comes my way

maybe this is what my life is going to be

always running away from every man I've known.

"My child is fine-"

Your child is so lonely and emotionally numb that they cope by living in a dream world to the point where they are terrified of living in reality itself
