melanie's new mv thoughts

okay so, the new aesthetic is literally TO DIE FOR. i am such a fan of this fairytale/alice in wonderland kind of vibe, it somehow reminds me of her mad hatter music video.

her new form is absolutely BOMB like i cannot express how much i love her hair and her cute mouth, the extra pair of eyes, THE WINGS, everything is just so abnormal and magical, both of melanie's best traits.

this truly feels like an experimental era for mel, the music is different and may take me a multiple listens to get used to but im glad she isnt scared to branch out to different types of genres. truly inspiring. THE CHOREO FOR DEATH IS SO GOOD TOO LIKE OH MY GOSHHH

This is the first song I ever heard of Melanie’s.  I’ve been a fan since the Voice and I’ve always been intrigued by her unique artistry, and I was not let down with this song.  I love the mix of carnival music into this song, while still making a really cool, catchy alternative pop song. This song was also the theme song for AHS Freakshow, if anyone was wondering.

My favorite Hey Violet song by far!  This song is sort of similar to the music that they’re doing now, but it also kept true to their rock roots while still adding some alternative pop in there.  Love Rena’s vocals in this song and the lyrics are great.  I hope for them to do more music like this in the near future!

Favorite Goo Goo Dolls song from their new album.  I love the vibe of this song, and I’m a huge fan of Johnny’s songwriting.  His voice sounds great as always, and I love the direction they’re going in with this album.

Awesome song by Bea Miller. These lyrics are so honest, and you can feel her raw emotion in every word she sings.  She is fed up, and she is done, and she is speaking her mind. She will not be tied down any longer.  These lyrics are an anthem of mine, especially during the Women’s March movements. We will not be silenced.  We will not be contained by anyone, man or woman.  We will not be yes girls. 

I’m too sick for Heaven, far too sweet to go to Hell // These broken pieces just don’t fit together well

This is such a cool song from Shannon Taylor!  I love the vibe, and it’s super catchy as well.  This song manages to be dark and light at the same time, which is very fitting, since she is fighting her inner demons in this song.  I like that the sound is a lot lighter than the video would make you believe as well.

Love this song from Melanie!  This song has such a cool industrial vibe, while still keeping true to her kid-like nature in her songs.  She’s so good at writing lyrics from a completely metaphorical viewpoint, and this song highlights that perfectly.

May be one of my favorite Lorde songs ever. I absolutely LOVE the direction her new music is taking, while still staying true to the music that she’s put out. The musical style is new ground for her, with just a simple piano background. The melody is so interesting and winding, and really helps to bring the listener on the rollercoaster of emotions of the lyrics. The lyrics of this song are beautifully heartbreaking,and she delivers them with such a beautiful tenderness. I’m excited to see what Melodrama sounds like.

Loving this Hey Violet song. This is such a good blend of their old I can Feel It sound and their new Brand New Moves/Guys My Age sound. Rena’s voice sounds simultaneously strong and sexy, and complements the song perfectly. Excited to hear their upcoming album.

Loving this new Halsey song. This is a lot closer to the Badlands sound than Now or Never, so I’m interested to hear how it all blends on her album. Her voice sounds great in this song, and I love the vibe of it.

Love this song from Halsey. The song is completely carried by her voice and the piano, and it gives her voice room to shine. The lyrics are so honest and raw, and you can hear her emotions in every word.

Today's track is ‘Butterfly Net’ by American alternative pop artist Caroline Polachek, specifically the alternate version featuring ‘Weyes Blood’. Released in 2023 for her album ‘Desire, I Want To Turn Into You’ the baroque pop song was remixed in 2024 and was featured on the album's deluxe ‘Everasking’ Edition. Caroline Polachek’s vocals always have this shimmery quality, creating a transformative experience, like a waking dream. With poetic lyrics conveying longing and melancholy, the original track is delicate and soothing. The ‘Weyes Blood’ version adds a dusky veneer, giving it a glowing or spiritual quality.
