Content warning: the following post discusses my feelings on the term “sex work” and children in the “”industry”” unfortunately :(
This is a half baked opinion because I have some personal trauma with this subject and therefor have not spent an extreme amount of time reading various opinions on it. But recently I used the word “prostitution” in a discussion and my teacher hastily corrected me to “sex work” because he felt that was more respectful.
I’m not going to talk in depth about this for obvious reasons, but I was a “sex worker” as a child. I do not call myself one because what I went through was FAR less consuming and traumatizing than ACTUALLY trafficked children forced into this so-called “”profession”” but yes…in technicality I was a “sex worker”. I was essentially a… “cam girl” when I was in middle school. Again, I won’t be going into detail.
To me the use of the term “sex work” feels dehumanizing, misogynistic, and capitalist. When you “work” with something you are exchanging currency for goods. If I sell you an apple for a dollar, you gave me currency and I gave you goods. If you pay me to have sex with you, you gave me currency and I gave you……..is my body “goods”? Am I a product?
This is why I object to the use of the word “content”. I, essentially, was making “content” when I did…that. But art is not “content” because “content” is meaningless. If I created a movie and sold it to you for a million dollars, you did not buy “content” you bought a story. You bought entertainment provided by a rigorous team of specialist that wrote, acted, produced, etc a story. If a Twitch streamer sells you on subscribing to them, they are selling their entertainment via video games or commentary or…well I’ll be quite honest I don’t watch Twitch I’m afraid. But something to that effect!
What was I doing other than selling my body as though it was a product? Is everything just a means of production?
I find it endlessly amusing that men are so confused, affronted, and concerned about the birth rates and marriage rates declining globally and then they behave like subhuman creatures. There are sex toys now that allow men to simulate fucking the decapitated head of a woman. Men cannot handle rejection and frequently become violent. Men are responsible for 75% of crime and 98% of sex crimes. Pornography has become increasingly violent and stomach-turning. Turns out when you act like an animal and treat women like a commodity, they don't wanna fuck you OR chain themselves to you and make themselves your legal property! Isn't that fun

Anti sex “work” because—
Consent can’t be bought
The majority of prostituted women want to exit
Poor women and girls of color are disproportionately funneled into the sex industry
The industry relies on there being a vulnerable and uncared for class of women and girls to sexually exploit
Racism, classism, imperialism, slavery, and colonialism are all embedded in or connected to prostitution
Prostitution is a cause and result of inequality between the sexes
The sex industry is proven to rely heavily on trafficking and exploitation
It promotes violence against women
It is violence against women
Prostitution is inherently violent
The sex industry encourages, promotes, and caters to male sexual entitlement
Under full decriminalization and legalization, prostituted women are still murdered, raped, assaulted, and stolen from by pimps and johns
Women who have escaped from prostitution have high rates of PTSD and other disorders
The industry promotes fetishization, stereotypes, and sexualized racism and racialized sexism against women of color
“Consensual sex work” and human trafficking are inescapably linked (Oof)
The liberation of women and an industry dedicated to the objectification of women cannot coexist
It reduces women to sexual objects and masturbatory aids
The sex industry preys on the most marginalized women and girls
Porn culture harms women and girls (yes, even “feminist” porn)
The normalization of sex as “work” degrades the status of women as a class
These are a few reasons for the abolitionist stance I came up with at the top of my head. The only reason to be pro-porn and pro-prostitution is if one believes that the orgasms of johns, profits of pimps, and pleasure of a few “happy hookers” is worth more than the safety, freedom, and humanity of every other woman and girl.
TL;DR
The sex industry is incompatible with feminism.

Now we’re connecting some dots.
I am fully against sex work but have nothing against sex workers. My being against sex work has nothing to do with the conservative POV about eww immoral whores tempting men ruining the foundation of society. My belief is this:
Transactional sex cannot be consensual. Full stop. Money implies that you would not consent without compensation. Stop thinking of “rape” like a cop would- that it only counts under the strictest circumstances and verbally saying No and fighting back. You can SAY “yes i agree to have sex with you” but if you do not want to have sex, you are not attracted to that person, would never have sex with them without being paid, that is rape. That is non consensual sex.
And the amount of Sex workers that can afford to leave the lifestyle that only have fun safe sex with relatively young attractivish men that they choose is SO rare compared to the reality of it all that its really not worth discussing if in some hypothetical situation prostitution could be empowering.
On the verge of tears and utterly disgusted by how many rape cases happen each day.
All the ones from September ALONE are only the ones who made it to the news.
Imagine all the Women in pain,suffering,screaming for help and bleeding due to the abuse that their currently facing.
Imagine the feeling of Women who have just have been raped due to being manipulated that it's a fun job and legitimate work,they must feel so disgusted and depressed.
Imagine all the Women who are being raped on live,crying and hoping that someone watching will take notice of their pain just for it to end and for her to be on that same set.
My heart aches for these Women.
