I just want to take a moment to appreciate the beauty that is the acespec flag

Friendly reminder that just because someone is asexual, aromantic, aroace, or in that spectrum, you don't get to fucking out them just because they feel little to no attraction.

Contrary to popular belief:

Asexual people can want sex.

Aromantic people can want romantic relationships.

Personally I can speak to this since I'm on the aroace spec but I still want a romantic relationship.

Honestly when people say "I'm fine with you being queer but don't flirt with me!" Just makes me want to say:

"Oh I'm gonna flirt with you so hard. Then I'm gonna flirt with your wife/husband. Don't bother locking your doors, it won't stop me. I'm boutta be so romantic you'll lose your ever-loving mind 😈."

(best part is I'm also aroace spec anyways lol)

Cringing because once I came out to a girl and she responded with,

"WHAT!? How can you be aroace spec!? Since when!?"

To explain, she said it because I jokingly flirt and make sexual jokes. It's just the kinda humor I have.

Basically it annoys me because I should be allowed to joke however I want as long as I'm not hurting anyone and/or making people uncomfortable.

Not everything has to show or adhere to my sexuality, since sexuality is kind of murky and it just genuinely doesn't matter when it comes to humor.

then why is their an anti-asexual and anti-aromantic tag? and also just in general yeah we do, constantly told that we "just need therapy!" and that "your not apart of the queer community if your just asexual/aromantic!!"

As someone who’s aroace spec who does feel a bit of romantic attraction, here’s some older brother advice to any other aroace spec people who like romance but don’t feel the attraction a lot.

No butterflies in your stomach? That’s perfectly fine, yknow? At the end of the day, if your partner makes you feel at peace, safe, remembered, content, then your heart not racing when they’re around is not a big deal. If they kiss you and you don’t feel jittery, but you feel calm, happy, taken care of, then that’s love. Love doesn’t have to be ground breaking emotions and physical sensations, love can be wanting someone in your future forever, love can be falling asleep in someone’s arms, love can be many things, and the lack of typical physical sensations doesn’t mean you can’t love.

If you love your partner but they don’t give you butterflies, that’s okay. Butterflies mean nothing when compared to feeling secure, understood, loved, acknowledged, etc.

Love’s about wanting the best for someone and walking hand in hand to make it happen for you both. It’s about having someone who cares about you to come home to at the end of the day.

something that has always baffled me is people not wanting you to headcanon a character as ace/aro/aroace because they have a canon attraction but pull out a canonically ace/aro/aroace character and they say “ace/aro/aroace people can still date!1!1! Like the double standard is painful yes it’s a spectrum but can’t you also just like not ship them? Ace, aro, and aro ace spec people are valid but people only seem to remember them when they want to ship a character
