I can't believe Supernatural did this. I love that Supernatural did this. Family therapy for Lucifer and God with Sam and Dean Winchester as facilitators. And with Lucifer wearing their best friend. Could this get any more messed up, or any more beautiful?
All that epic story arc about the angels and their civil wars, about the absentee God and his writer issues and the mess he left behind, and they bring it down to Earth with this intimate, real, honest conversation between an estranged father and a once-favourite son.

We Happy Few (11x22) May 18th, 2016
This was the moment where my ears really pricked up as a first time watcher of Supernatural. I loved this whole episode, but this reveal from Cas twigged me to the whole concept that the characters were living a written narrative in-universe rather than, for want of a better phrase, a normal life. I went from enjoying the characters and watching along gamely to being fully invested in the overall story arc in the few seconds filled by this exchange of dialogue.
Watching the show with my mum, she kept complaining during the early seasons that the boys shook off too many serious injuries, too many no-win scenarios, too many fights where they were outgunned, not to mention death itself. And I was like... "I think that's maybe the whole point...maybe?" I was confident by the end of season 2 that there was a concrete reason for Sam and Dean's ever-escalating battle, a purpose to the impossible odds and narrow scrapes that went beyond the bog-standard, handwaved Plot Armour of the average TV protagonists. Castiel showing up at the start of S4 to reveal that God wanted Dean saved from Hell seemed to answer the question - then quickly didn't, as it became apparent that the angels are not only dicks to each other and humanity, but don't really know what's what either - they just believe they do.
Supernatural ended up taking this storyline - the meta story about stories, cycles, free will, and the monster at the end of this book - so much further than I could've hoped, and I loved every second of it.

"He's a mouthpiece, a conduit for the inspired word." ↳ 4.18 - THE MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK

"You guys, you're not in this story." God said.
"Yeah, well. We're making it up as we go." Castiel replied.
And hate grew within God towards the angel. It was made to follow each and every one of his orders. This, this childish defiance, it's for humans.
God looked towards the Michael sword next to the angel, and the human looked at the angel like it was something worth being worshipped.
It wasn't. And the hate within God festered as his gaze shifted back to Castiel.
What a broken thing.
Dear God:
Mate, Castiel's been over you since at least season six. Observe the many fucks Cas does not give about your opinion of him as a mere cookie-cutter supporting character in your unbeta'd self-insert fic.
Amen.

Seriously, I loved these scenes. Chuck's so scary-powerful, even when he's acting like a petulant toddler, even with an exploding Jack-bomb about to go off, but Team Free Will 2.0 are past flinching. Pushed too far. Turned worms. Characters fighting back against a tyrannical author. Nnngh. I had a metagasm.

This subplot was hard on my feels. Sam had this natural faith that didn't define him - he just believed that something benevolent was worth a prayer, worth his respect; that there was something wondrous behind the curtain. He was curious and open to it, then all this. Voice-messaging with dick angels who call him an abomination. Help that doesn't come (or just doesn't help). Lucifer turning prayer back on him as a cruel trick. Chuck going, "I heard your prayers," but nothing about why there was no answer - no care in this cosmos for the individual hanging on the line.
I know Jack's all about the hands-off, lowercase-g godding, but I hope he makes the lights dim or the air smell of nougat or something when Sam prays.

And I needed to think that there was something else watching too, you know?
DEAN: Don't yo— Sammy, no, not Lucifer Rising, I swear to g— SAM: What was the phrase Chuck used on page 244 when Cas - and I quote - pinned you 'to the wall like a frozen butterfly in the face of the unflinching hurricane, staring steadily into Dean's eyes past the warm pressure of Castiel's large, smothering hand'...? DEAN: I'm gonna kill you. SAM: With his 'piercing blue gaze'. Oh, oh, here it is! DEAN: Don't you da— SAM: 'Dean's. Dangerously. Incipient. B-O-N-E-R' !!! DEAN: Grr! SAM: ARGH!
[Brief but intense brotherly scuffle over the hood of the Impala and into the ditch, which ends with the increasingly rare self-publish paperback of Supernatural: Lucifer Rising torn in half and one brother secretly nursing his left testicle for three days.]

sam goes back to his bitchy roots and instead of continuing an argument with dean he just breaks out the canon supernatural books and reads dean's internal monologue about cas aloud to them both
Supernatural angry guy with beard is god?
Yes. God (capital-G), aka Chuck Shurley, aka Carver Edlund. He's mostly not that angry. Well... not outwardly, at least. He might always have been that angry on the inside, now I'm looking at him with the benefit of plot hindsight. :P
The beard belongs to actor Rob Benedict.

SUPERNATURAL 4.22 ⛥ Lucifer Rising

11.20 Don’t Call Me Shurley

HAPPY BELATED FATHER’S DAY, LET’S RANK SOME SUPERNATURAL DILFS
(aka the sequel to my milfnatural post)
Something about how for all the grief Michael gets about being "daddy’s little boy" and au!Michael gets for “throwing a tantrum” at the end of the day Michael was right. And like holy shit isn’t it insane. Michael was right that free will was an illusion Chucks plan worked so well down to the detail that it can’t be traced to him anymore. Sam and Dean and Cas think they’ve won. The way in 15x19 when Michael is curious about the perception of Heaven and reads up on how humanity views God he says "Amazingly the believers loved him." Au!Michael was right Chuck sees these worlds as nothing more than stories, things to be discarded once they don’t entertain him anymore. Something Castiel doesn’t accept even though he’s seen what Chucks done. Au!Michael gave them the answer, the last page of the book and no one listens.
Idk guys something about Michael being the eldest sibling, something about the quiet stillness of the universe when it was just Michael and God alone. About how we've seen the strange and obsessive way Chuck speaks and hovers around around Dean who for all purposes was supposed to be Michaels perfect reflection. Something about how we’ve seen how vile and enraged Chuck can be when he’s denied. Something about what kinda abuse Amara and God hurled at each other when He was trying to make the universe that must have impacted the way Michael saw his siblings. Something about how we’ve seen that Chucks more than willing to hurt angels, even the Archangels. Something about how Michael must’ve heard Amaras agonizing screams when her brother sealed her away and then went home to Heaven with the smell of the Mark radiating from Lucifer at all times. Something about how the spear Michael was gonna use against Lucifer had an off switch. About a Michael who knows what his father is but thinks they all deserve it anyway.
Something about how Michael was the first to see God before he learned to put on a pretty face and strum an off key guitar like he was anything close to kind. He knows what he is. The All-seeing All-knowing, All-caring God.
omg I was just watching the ep where chuck shows up for the first time (04x18) again and the things I'm feeling right now
like chuck saying all those things about “being a god” and playing with the boys just for entertainment and I'm here after finishing the show knowing that everything is actually-

this is literally what happened

Things that totally happened on Supernatural, 4x18 - “The Monster At The End of This Book”

my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE pieces from 2019. i’ve always always always wanted my digital work to look more like oil paint, which is funny seeing as i’ve never used it before
per usual, the best awful boys: king chuck and sir gabriel

spn 5x17
no matter what happens, chuck’s dumb ass will always be one of my favorite characters
but amara not trying to kick the shit out of him constantly truly shocked me
You don't believe how much I love this

And if you have a minute, why don’t we go Talk about it somewhere only we know This could be the end of everything So why don’t we go Somewhere only we know
