Mermay #09 - Spotted Boxfish Mer So for this one since my first attempt came out more Fishtale-esque fish anthro I decided to do a second one beside it that was more mer-like. The plus side to that is I got to use the anthro version as a test run for my colors and didn’t screw up the colors as badly on the mer. XD Though, I would have liked to have gotten that beautiful indigo as the main body color instead of the shirt color for this here mer, but that proved to be a bit complicated without the excessive use of white acrylic like I used for the shirt, which I’ve found is probably the best medium to blend marker on top of. It blends super well with my markers... though they end up getting a bit of white on their nibs as a result XD; Doesn’t really seem to harm them though if I use them a few times afterwards. But anyways... so yeah. Fixed it up a bit in PS and here we are! Some nice spotted boxfish mer and anthro. XD And with that, I’m all caught up with Mermay! Yaay~ (Though technically it’s the 10th, I’ll have all of tomorrow to work on today’s so that works. XD; )

Mermay #11 - Eli Another CC request, because she has mers and I’m open to ideas for Mermay XD He was really simple and nice to marker out. I think I only used... I wanna say four? Four colors? For this whole thing? Blue, two shades of green... no, five total colors. Blue, two shades of green (though it was mostly just one shade), skin color, and cool gray for the shirt. Any colors other than that were probably caused by darkening/lighting the pic in Photoshop. But anyways... So yeah he was a fun and simple mer to draw. I’m a day behind in Mermay now (or actually two since it’s the 13th already?) because I procrastinated on this one and chose movie screenshot drawing instead over Mermay, but I’ll see if I can’t get caught up again today or tomorrow XD;

Mermay #12 - North American Darter Fish Tried the random fish generator again and after a couple dozen tries I found this lovely kind of fish XD I just had to make a mer out of it for Mermay!

Mermay #13 - Mahi-mahi Mer Another day, another mer! Here’s a mahi-mahi mer who looks quite grumpy XD Not that mahi-mahi have fangs like that, but I thought it fit the persona. XD

Mermay #20 - Hakee Second in the series of old characters from a mer RP, there’s this thing. From the same tribe as Tirak, a small girl about the age of six who is an albino shark mer and wanders about like a ghost. They say she’s an outcast, but she gets along fairly well for her status.

Mermay #22 - Tsuname as a Mer Finally, all caught up! Well, here’s a crowd favorite XD Tsuname, as a mer! I know his species is technically mermaid-like, but I thought I’d draw him as a traditional mer for fun. I would have colored, but I reaaaally wanted to get caught up. XD; So I left is as is in pencil sketch form!

Mermay #23 - Moon Jellyfish Mer Right on track today. Starting sketching this one up last night around midnight and all finished today. Yaay~ XD It feels good to be caught up and not have like 4-5 of these hanging over me XD Soo yeah. I got inspired looking at jellyfish and other jellyfish mers peeps have done via google images and decided to draw one myself! I really liked how some people made the top jelly bit a hat and some people did both hat and bottom half so I figured why not? Now she’s kind of a... double jelly thing but I dunno I’m kinda satisfied with how it came out. XD

Mermay #24 - McCosker’s Wrasse Mer So this time I didn’t feel like doing the twiggy lady mers I usually draw and designed to make this one a little more beefier, if only in the arms. XD; ...and outfit came out kinda punk-rockish so that too. Although... upon further research into wrasses I found out the design I chose was for a male one... I should have figured with the colors, since in nature usually the males are a lot more colorful XD; But alas. I dunno it’s just patterning though and she’s a mer so maybe it’s different for mermaids? I dunno. Anyways, that embarrassment aside, here’s a mer. XD

Mermay #25 - Brittani Mer Another one from the same band of misfit mers as Finny, this is Brittani. She has Amazon boto and gray seal markings ordinarily, but here’s her as an actual mer because it’s Mermay. XD She was fun to do. I’m glad her shirt came out pretty well too, considering I made it blue at first and then changed it back to her more iconic purple. XD

Mermay #26 - Manny the Manatee Mer Third character in the mer crew with Brittani and Finny, here’s Manny the manatee mer. XD I think this is the first time I’ve ever drawn him and he’s not even a mer with a tail usually XD

Mermay #27 - Wally the Walrus Mer Another one for the mer pod into actual mers, it’s Wally the walrus mer. XD He’s always been begrudgingly walrus-patterned and walrus-like ever since an incident during his walrus hunting days when he got imprinted with the walrus pattern, but as an actual walrus mer I think he hates it even more. XD Even when he’s just patterned he doesn’t like stepping foot in any familiar places with too many people around, so this really just makes it a lot worse for him. XD

Mermay #28 - Owen the River Otter Mer Gee I don’t even know if this is allowed XD since otters aren’t really a cetacean but they’re kinda aquatic?? So?? I dunno. Well anyways. So this is Owen, the... river otter... mer... XD He usually just has an otter pattern but as per Mermay I decided to make him a... what even would you call this. This is more like... a half-otter thing than a mer XD But anyways so he’s another Zenithian that the mer pod meet. He sometimes accompanies them on trips so he’s kinda only half part of the pod but he’s kinda among their ranks I guess as it were sometimes... XD Sooo yeah. Whether this counts as a mer or not here’s Owen. XD

Mermay #29 - Fay as a Mer So I was gonna jump in to doing more of my chars, but the idea of doing this adorable child owned by CC as a mer was simply too tempting... So I doodled her up, even though I wasn’t even sure about making it a Mermay thing. And here it is anyway. XP Maybe I’ll do one of my chars again next. We’ll see.

Mermay #31 - Illumi as a Mer WOOT! Finished mermay! >8D On time this year, too~ Didn’t have to cram like I did last year XD Yaaay! I had a few days where I got behind, but I managed to stay pretty much on target this month! Hooray!! XD This is a first for me. So here’s Illumi as a mer. Pretty heavily digitalized. The traditional version I only used one color XD The rest was lots and lots of retouching... I think Illumi’s unique blend of colors can really only be achieved digitally, at least with my current skillset. XD With her weird glowy glass stuff everywhere... She’s a challenge to render digitally or not o.O I had to go through a lot of color balancing and photo filters to get what I have now. XD She’s a weird iridescent illuminescent thing... more so as a mer. XD But she’s got the perfect cocky personally to say goodbye to this year’s Mermay with. Phew! What a trip huh? XD

Grows wild in the Great Buddy Forest and in some other wooded areas. Beloved by Fashion Buddys for the wooly fibers that can be produced from the tufts.

Inktober 2019 #11: Skaepara Plant

The fruit of the Skaepara Plant is well-known for the map-like patterns on its surface. It is favored for decorative purposes and dyeing for its magnificent blue color. It is edible, but not particularly favored by Amicans. The leaves also may only be good for filler in tea, and are instead preferred for decorative and fashion purposes.
