a/n: okay so this is the first ever proper smut I've posted and I'm SCARED. do not judge me pls and thank you <3 I haven't seen any sex pollen with Rex so I thought I'd try my hand at it

The sun was only just clinging to the horizon as you made your way back to the ship, taking a shortcut through the forest. You and Rex had been scouting for a new, and safe, planet to move to, where the small rebellion you were a part of could operate without detection. This one had been uninhabited, and so far proved to be a solid contender. You had come along because of your in depth knowledge of various flora and fauna across the galaxy, and Rex deemed you the most qualified to ascertain whether or not the planet would be suitable. He also enjoyed your company but he wasn’t going to tell you that.
You and Rex had known each other for many years, as you were somewhat of a consultant to the jedi in the war. Your knowledge of different cultures and languages throughout the galaxy proved most useful, and you often became an intermediary between the Republic forces and the primitive beings you encountered. A lot of your time was spent in the field, which was where you met Rex.
The 501st had been part of a relief mission to Abednedo, where you were required for translation purposes. The Abednedo mostly spoke basic, but it was their written language that proved difficult for the Republic to understand, and with you understanding the Republic’s supply logging system, they opted to have you catalogue the supplies rather than teach the Abednedo to use it.
Rex had been uneasy around you initially, with you being someone from outside of the GAR, but he quickly warmed to you when he saw how well you integrated with the rest of his brothers. That was part of the reason that you joined his band of rebels in the first place - you definitely had a soft spot in your heart for the clones, and even more so for Rex.
Your feelings for Rex had grown steadily. Naturally, you found him to be handsome when you first met, his closely cropped blond hair making him stand out among his brothers, but your attraction for him really set in when seeing him on the battlefield, taking down almost a whole wave of droids with only two DC-17s and his own sheer will.
Though that was years ago. Now, you found yourself harbouring deeper feelings for him, feelings you had been reluctant to admit to yourself.
When Rex had found you after the end of the war, sending you a message on your encrypted comm channel, you felt like you had finally hit a stroke of luck. The transition from the Republic to the Empire was turbulent for you, to say the least. The Empire had uses for your intellect, but you had quickly become disillusioned with the whole regime when you realised the deception that they covered up in every corner of their reach. Rex had all but saved you from the Empire, and for that, you’d always be grateful to him.
Meeting him again after the end of the war, when you hadn’t seem him in some time, was like a breath of fresh air. You had never been exceptionally close with him, no closer than you were with any of the other clones at least, but upon seeing his tired and haggard figure on the other side of the hangar, you couldn’t help but speed over to him and embrace him in a tight hug. He had chuckled and returned the embrace, commenting something about ‘understanding the feeling’.
Since then, the dormant feelings you had previously harboured for him only grew. You worked closely with him, spending most of your days by his side in the command centre, helping however you could. It was an inescapable fate that you would fall for him, and now here you were, living out that very fated feeling. You had no indication from the Captain as to whether he felt the same way, and so you kept it close to your chest, electing to not tell him.
Rex had gone back to the ship to comm the others, to say that this planet you were on could be the one, while you had stayed out to investigate a few final things. The water from the natural springs was drinkable, and the small bug you had captured carried no known diseases, and so you were satisfied that this planet would do nicely. You commed Rex and let him know what you were coming back, not waiting for an answer before you switched it off. It didn't really matter whether he heard you or not, you'd be back soon.
It was dark in the forest as you cut through, but it was just bright enough to see where you were going. Mostly.
You found yourself disproved when your foot caught on a tree root and you were sent tumbling forwards with a small yelp. Thankfully, there was a thick bed of flowers that cushioned your fall, so the pain from the impact dissipated quickly. You stood and brushed yourself off, but immediately felt your nose itching, and before you knew it, you were sent into a sneezing fit. You had sneezed at least ten times before you lost count, and you stumbled forwards, resting yourself against a tree when you came to a clearing.
The orange tone of the sky cast a gentle golden light over you as you caught your breath. The sneezing subsided, but as you breathed deeply, you realised that something felt wrong.
You felt your insides burn hot, the heat spreading through your body like a wildfire. An uncomfortable feeling settled in your stomach, but it quickly twisted into a heavy pain. You doubled over, holding your stomach as it cramped up and sent shockwaves through your system.
You dug your hand into one of the pouches on your belt urgently, pulling out the small torch you carried with you. You switched it on and shined it over the bed of flowers that you had just landed in, and inspected their yellow petals and purple centre, your eyes going wide.
Fuck.
You knew exactly what flower these were, you had studied them and their effects in your time at University on Coruscant. You knew exactly what was going to happen to you, and you almost wish you didn't.
Aphrodisiacs.
You dug your heels into the ground in frustration as you threw your head back into the tree, your eyes screwed shut. The burning in your stomach was quickly transforming from a small flame to a full blown bonfire.
Somehow this was typical. This planet was so close to being perfect, and now you had to go and trip into some flowers that would cause you a pain so sensual you'd be driven out of your mind. It had to be you, didn't it?
As you were writhing against the tree, contemplating if you could really get yourself off right here, you heard your name being called and groaned quietly. Why did he have to come looking for you right now?
You tried your best to stay quiet, listening to him calling out to you and hoping that he wouldn't find you, but then he came through the treeline, his eyes finding your struggling form.
“What's wrong?” He darted over to you, at your side in an instant, and you instinctively flinched away from him. His gaze was filled with worry.
You we're clearly in some kind of pain, your skin damp with sweat and a deep blush across your cheeks.
He reached out for you as he called your name, and you moved away again, having to look away from the man that you desired fiercely at any other given moment, but especially this one.
“Rex” You breathed out, trying to keep your voice steady, “Please don't touch me”
“Why?” He asked quickly, “Is it your skin?”
“It's… everywhere, it's not going to go away, It hurts, it hurts so much” You spoke, though you weren't sure your words were even coherent.
“What hurts?” He asked more urgently, trying to get a read on the problem the best he could without touching you.
I can't tell him. I just need to get him away.
“You need to leave. Go back to the ship and wait for me” You pant.
“What? No, let me help you” He knelt down beside you, his hand itching to reach out and comfort you, “What can I do?”
“Nothing. Please go away” You begged, but he didn't understand what was going on at all. For all he knew, you could be asking him to leave you to die here.
“Please let me help you”
You let a small moan escape your lips, one hand stifling it and the other gripping at your clothes to resist from touching yourself right in front of him.
“Rex please go away” You said desperately, your head now in your hands and gripping at your hair to try and distract you.
“I can't! I can't leave you like this, are you crazy?” His voice was so exasperated, and you ground your teeth together as you shook your head in defiance.
“I need you to leave, now. Plea-” You were cut off by your own whimper escaping your lips.
The pain in your core was becoming unbearable. While you knew you couldn't die from this drug, you knew the only solution was to satisfy the intense desire that it gave you, but you would've taken death before pleasuring yourself in front of Rex.
“Cyar'ika let me help you” He said softly, coming closer to you again.
“Please don't call me that” You practically whined, your body acting without permission and splaying out of the floor, twisting back on itself.
“Tell me what's wrong” He ordered firmly, and you felt your desire for him only spiral further.
“The flowers” You exhaled, “They're making me… hot”
“Hot?”
“Yes, hot” You gritted through your teeth, your hand playing with the top button of your trousers. You had to relieve this pain soon before it became worse.
“What can I-”
“Just leave Rex!” You hissed, the pain becoming blinding, “Please leave” You were on the edge of tears, your frustration nearly matching your arousal. You continued begging, different sentence formations that included the words ‘leave’, ‘please’ and ‘Rex’ tumbling from your mouth in a last desperate attempt.
“Cyar'ika” Rex grabbed your chin, forcing you to look up at him, and another whimper escaped you at his touch, “I'm not leaving you”
You whined, “If you don't leave I-” You couldn't finish the sentence.
“You'll what?”
“I need to- you can't be here” You said already unbuttoning your trousers with shaking hands.
“Why not? Cyare you're not making any sense”
You'd were finally at your limit, the pain driving you insane.
“It's an aphrodisiac Rex!” You screamed, hands tightened into fists to hold yourself back.
Rex froze, “Oh”
“Yeah. Oh” You mustered up a desperate chuckle, curling up in a ball on the floor.
“What should I-”
“I don't know. I don't know, you just need to get out of here before I do something I regret” Your words tumbled over each other as you spoke.
He touched your shoulder lightly, and when you moaned at the simple gesture, he understood how bad it really was.
“Rex, leave!” You screamed at him again, your hand finally finding its way past the waistband of your underwear.
Rex immediately averted his eyes, “I'm just going to be over there, I don't want to leave you here like this”
“Whatever! Just do it!” You said, a loud moan escaping you as you fingers found themselves running easily through your slick folds.
Rex quickly moved away from you. The sounds of your moans spilling from your lips were driving him crazy, but he was also overwhelmingly worried about you. He wanted to help you, but he knew that wasn't something he could really do without… well, fucking you. The idea alone was working him up, and the sound of your moans growing more and more frustrated had his cock hardening and pressing into his codpiece uncomfortably.
“It's not working” You cried out and removed your fingers from working your clit to pull your top off, trying to at least ease some of the heat. You were at your wits end, your thoughts all blurred together.
“Rex!” You shouted helplessly, “Please come here!”
Rex ran back over to you in a flash, the sight of your body sprawled out on the floor making his heart beat out of his chest.
“It burns” You choked out, tears spilling from your eyes, “It hurts so much”
“Maybe I could help?” He suggested, letting his emotions get the better of him.
“Help?” You said in a disbelieving laugh, “Are you going to fuck me yourself Rex?”
The silence was so loud.
You looked up at him, standing above you, and his expression was absolutely flat.
“You're serious?” You practically gasped, and he just nodded.
You brought yourself onto your knees and cradled your head in your arms, mumbling under your breath. “Maker, this is so fucked up, I can't believe this is happening. I can’t-”
Rex interrupted your ramblings as he knelt down in front of you, placing his hands on your arms to take them away from your head. You looked up to him desperately, and you could see the pity in his eyes.
“Rex it hurts, it really hurts” You whispered, the pain continuing to burn into you.
“I know” He said soothingly, “I'm going to help you, okay? I'll make it feel better”
You whimpered, your breathing calming just the tiniest bit.
“Is that okay?” He asked, getting a confirmation that this is what you wanted from him.
“Yes” You breathed out, any shame now escaping you, “Please help me”
With that, Rex took you up in his arms, and darted back the short distance to the ship. He set you down on the bunk in the back area and pulled off your trousers and underwear in one swift motion. The sight that greeted him drew a deep groan from within his throat, but he was hesitating.
“Rex please” You begged in a strangled moan, needing to feel him immediately.
“I'm sorry Cyar'ika, I just didn't think it would happen this way” He said honestly.
“Wha-?”
Before you could even ask what he meant, his tongue found its place between your legs. You cried out, the pain in your stomach melting away into pure pleasure. He was eating you out as if it was his last meal, as if he hadn't eaten in weeks. It felt so incredible, and yet, your head still felt foggy, and your pulse was elevated to an unhealthy rate. Even as he worked at your clit, the sensation of him sucking and biting feeling divine, given straight from the maker, you knew it wasn't enough.
“Rex I need-” You began, your words getting caught in your throat.
“Tell me what you need Cyare” He hummed against your pussy, “Anything”
Your hips bucked, “I need more, I need you” You panted.
“I'll need a little bit more than that I'm afraid” He said, and you looked down at him to see the slight teasing smile curling his lips.
“Please don't make me say it” You whined as he licked a stripe from your entrance to your clit.
“Come on Cyar'ika, tell me” He cooed, his hands gripping at your thighs tightly.
“I need your cock! I need you inside me Rex! Please” You finally admitted, and felt Rex hum against your core.
“See that wasn't so hard was it” He rumbled.
He placed a kiss to your clit before he moved away, and you shuddered, feeling the pain begin to twist at your core once more. Rex made short work of his armour, his dexterous fingers working the clasps quickly, his brain on autopilot as he looked down at you writhing beneath him. He then slipped off his blacks and his cock finally sprung free. You moaned as you saw it, throwing your head back onto the bunk and trying not to think about how wrong this was.
“See something you like Mesh’la?” You knew Rex was smirking, you could hear it in his voice. It only drove you more insane.
“Shut up and fuck me Captain” You hissed, which pulled a deep groan from Rex.
He chuckled slightly as he replied, “Yes Ma’am”
He lined himself up with your entrance and looked up to you for confirmation, taking your face in his hand to make you look at him. You could see the question in his eyes, and behind all of your blinding arousal, your heart fluttered at the careful actions of the man you were undoubtedly in love with. You nodded.
“Please” You sounded so pathetic, and Rex brushed his thumb across your cheek tentatively.
“I’ve got you Cyare, don’t worry, I’ll make it better”
He breached you entrance and the moan that escaped your lips was the most sinful sound he had ever heard.
“Oh Rex” You whimpered sadly, and he stopped his movements to check that you were okay.
“What is it?” He rocked his hips back and then forward very gently, earning another moan. “What is it Mesh'la?” He whispered.
“I'm sorry” You whispered
“Why are you sorry?” He frowned, and pushed your hair from your face to get a proper look at you.
The pain burned hot inside you, but you needed to say this.
“You shouldn't have to do this, I'm so sorry”
“Cyare, I can stop if you don't want me to do this, I can let you finish yourself”
“No!” You said quickly, too quickly, “I mean-” You were floundering to find the right words but Rex just pressed a soft kiss to your temple.
“You don't need to say anything” He said gently and pushed deeper inside you, his cock now fully sheathed within you. You moaned gently at the sensation of the stretch, and it was music to his ears, “I'm going to fuck you now, and we can forget about it later okay?”
“Okay” You breathed out unsteadily.
He started to pick up the pace and it was heavenly. The feel of his cock dragging along your walls was divine, and if this was any other time it would have been perfect, but right now, you needed more.
“Rex, please-”
“Tell me Cyar'ika, what do you need?”
The underlying feelings that you already harboured for Rex were spilling into your words before you could stop them.
“Please, I need it harder, faster. Fuck me like you mean it Rex, please”
“Won't be a problem” He said breathily before he began pounding into you, and you could already feel the familiar coil tightening in the pit of your stomach, replacing any pain that once inhabited it. Rex slid his arm around you, arching your back so he could hit the deepest possible spot within you.
“Fuck” You hissed.
“That feel good?” He panted out, and you nodded hastily. Rex tutted slightly, “Use your words Mesh'la, tell me how it feels” He said, dragging his lips across your neck, leaving small markings behind as his teeth nipped at you.
“Fuck Rex, it feels so good. Please don't stop, I need you” You were whispering, as if it were a secret you didn't want to tell.
Rex groaned loudly, burying his face in your neck, “Say it again”
“Which part?” You said letting a small smirk onto your face at his reaction to your words. You knew exactly which ones he wanted to hear.
He looked up at you in disbelief of your teasing at this moment, then pressed his forehead into yours, slowing down his pace and making you whimper at the loss of intensity, “Tell me you need me”
You had no problem saying something as true as that. “I need you Rex, I want you” You emphasised, your eyes burning into his from a mere hairbreadth away.
He groaned, the distinction between the two phrases not lost on him. He quickly resumed his punishing pace, pulling away from you slightly to watch you. You felt the coil pull taught within you, just waiting to snap. You weren’t certain if the drug had something to do with it or not, but you had never been wound up to an orgasm so quickly by anyone else before.
“Stars, just like that” You moaned, eyes closing and head pushing back into the bunk.
“Fuck, look at you” Rex breathed out, “You’re so beautiful taking my cock like this”
The words hit you in the very centre of your being, and without thinking, you grabbed the back of Rex’s neck and pulled him in to your lips. His hips stuttered for one second, but then he was groaning into the kiss, his hips snapping to yours even harder, his fingers holding you down with bruising strength. You didn’t care at all. The idea of having his hands imprinted into your skin only sent you careering towards your orgasm.
“Rex I'm gonna-” You couldn’t even get the words out.
“That's it Mesh'la, let go, cum for me”
His words tipped you over the edge, the coil snapping suddenly and harshly, filling your system with intense pleasure. Rex wasn't far behind.
“Where-”
“Inside, please. I want to feel you Rex” You scraped your nails down the back of his neck as he rode you though your high.
“Kriff, you're going to be the death of me Cyar'ika” He mumbled, hooking his lips with yours as he snapped his hips to your one final time, spilling all of himself inside.
You both took a second to come down from your highs, breathing heavily against each others lips. The more your breath returned to normal, and the burning inside of your limbs subsided, the more the dread crept in.
Rex slid out of you without saying a word, without looking at you. You whimpered slightly at the loss and covered you mouth out of embarrassment. He left the room and your thoughts instantly spiralled out of control.
He’s never going to speak to me again. He’ll never look at me again. I’ve ruined everything. There’s no way we can just move on from this. I’m never going to be able to forget this. He’ll never look at me the same.
A moment later, Rex returned with a damp towel and knelt on the floor, placing a hand on your knee. “Open” He said gently, a kind smile across his lips as he guided your legs open to clean you up. You couldn’t look at him, opting to lay your head back and stare at the ship’s ceiling.
“Rex, I’m so sorry” You said quietly, tears pricking at the edges of your eyes.
“Don't be, I'm just glad I could help you” He replied, as sweet as he always was, and you felt the tears spill, running silently down the sides of your face.
Everything's ruined.
When he finished cleaning you up, Rex noticed your despondent expression and tear stained face and grabbed your hand tentatively.
“What are you thinking Mesh'la?” He asked, his deep voice exceedingly smooth.
“This isn't what I wanted, it shouldn't have been like this” You stared up blankly, blinking hot tears out of your eyes.
Rex's heart started beating faster, “Did I hurt you?”
“No!” You sat up, looking into his eyes, “It's not that it's-”
He brought a hand to cup your cheek and his thumb gently caressed your cheekbone, wiping some tears from under your eye, “It's what?”
You took a deep breath. Now felt like both the right and the wrong moment but you were past caring, your dignity was already laid outside in the bed of flowers that started this whole mess.
“I- I actually like you Rex, I might even love you, and now…” You looked down to your lap, shaking your head, “Now I've ruined everything. I'm just sorry” You buried your face in your hands, feeling ashamed of your actions, even if they weren’t entirely your own.
“Hey, hey” Rex pried your hands away from your face, “Cyar'ika look at me”
You raised your gaze to look into his eyes, your head still angled down as if it would stop the confrontation.
“You haven't ruined anything okay? Its not your fault, I-” He smiled a little, “I like you too, might even love you” He mimicked the way you had said it and your heart stopped.
“You do?” Your eyebrows pinched as you stared into his amber eyes, seeing only admiration and honesty swimming in their depths.
“Yes” He placed his hand on your cheek, “It's like I said, I didn't think it would happen like this”
“Oh, that's what you meant” You said plainly, and he chuckled at your expression.
“Yeah” He said, gently rubbing your thigh, “I'm sorry, I should've told you before all of this happened” He said, some kind of guilt creeping across his features.
“It’s okay” You took his face in your hands, “Thank you Rex, for helping me”
A smirk grew on his face, “Anytime”

description: your job keeps you away from pabu, your home, more than you would like, but when you return after weeks away, there's a certain someone eager to make you stay for good.
warnings: fluff, mutual pining, friends to lovers, all that good stuff, wet hair hunter !!!
a/n: been sitting on this for a little while and finally finished it lol, I'm pretty proud of how it turned out in the end. also I realised after that pabu's beach might not be sand....... just pretend it is okay

You brought your ship out of Hyperspace and sighed delightedly at the sight of the swirling blues of Pabu's surface. It was always such a wonderful sight after a long stretch of selling.
You owned a small vineyard on Pabu, though of course none of your customers from other areas of the galaxy knew that's where you operated from. The drinks you made were your main source of money, but you also owned a small wine bar on Pabu. Most of your time was taken up by travelling to other star systems and selling your wares, but your favourite times were spent back home, talking with customers across the bar.
As you entered the upper atmosphere, you were greeted by the wonderful orange and pink hues of the sun disappearing over the horizon. You quickly sped down to the surface, eager to watch the sunset from the town square as you often did when you were back.
When you set down your ship, you saw the flash of blonde hair as the young girl you had grown so familiar with rushed across the square. You smiled at her eagerness, and barely made it out of your ship before you were attacked at the waist by her crushing hug.
“You've been gone for so long!” Omega whined, “You've never been away that long before”
“It was only a few weeks Mega” You told her, but she still wasn't pleased.
“How long are you back for this time?” She asked, her eyes wide and shining up at you.
“I'm not sure” You ruffled her hair with tight lipped smile.
She groaned as she let go of you, “Alright, well I guess I should just make the most of it then”
“That sounds good to me” You smiled down at her as she slung her arm around your waist, pulling you in the direction she knew you'd be going.
Ever since the Bad Batch had arrived on Pabu, you had spent a lot of your time with Omega. For whatever reason, she was very interested by your work, and she often came to help you with some of the more simple parts of the process. She was fascinated that you could create such a mind-altering beverage just from simple fruits. She always wanted to try some, but she was many years away from an acceptable drinking age, and so you had to crush her dreams every time you said no. You thought that she probably continued asking because one day you might just break, and sometimes it felt like that. Her hopeful smile was just too precious, and the look of dismay that followed denying her a taste was enough to make most people do as she liked.
Omega let go of your waist to pull you down onto the ledge by your forearm, a little too close for your comfort but you knew she was smart enough not to fall off.
“Careful Mega” You reminded her anyway, and she rolled her eyes.
“I'm always careful” She said, shuffling closer to you so that she could rest her head on your shoulder.
“I know. Doesn't stop me worrying though” You sighed, leaning your head onto hers and pulling her in with your arm around her back.
“Maker, you're as bad as Hunter” Omega mumbled, earning a chuckle from you.
“Can you blame him? Chaos follows you wherever you go”
“That's not my fault” Omega shrugged.
“Hm, I'm not sure about that… but if you insist” You replied, and both of you settled into silence as you watched the sun setting.
The pink clouds circled and danced around the orange glow, and a deep red was bursting from the horizon line. As the sun sunk lower and lower, the air was filled with a haziness that only came on beautiful summer evenings such as this. It was still warm, a little light and people still moved about in the town, but the lack of wind made everything seem stationary, like a picture, a frame, frozen in time.
“You should get home” You mumbled to Omega, feeling calmed by the serene atmosphere.
“Probably” She sighed, and lifted her head from your shoulder to look at you, “Why don't you come with me?”
“I'd love to Mega, but I should be getting back to the bar really” You told her reluctantly. You had told the person working you'd be back before sunset…
“Awh, come on, just this once? You can come and see Hunter” She grinned up at you and you rolled your eyes. You had made the sore mistake of letting slip the nature of your feelings towards the Sergeant, and Omega saw it as a perfect opportunity to try and play matchmaker. “I'm sure he'd like to see you” She added.
“Yeah yeah, in my dreams right?” You chuckled, and held your hand out to help her up as you stood.
“You know, there's nothing stopping you from just telling him how you feel” She said matter-of-factly, looking up at you with her hands on her hips.
“Well, for now I've still got to go back to the bar. I'll see you tomorrow kid” You smiled at her, and she waved you off before running back home.
You chuckled to yourself, shaking your head as you walked in the direction of your bar. It was located down a small street, almost tucked away, but the people of Pabu all knew where it was, those that drank wine anyway.
You approached the building, flower baskets adorning the windows and metal chairs and tables outside, a few people sitting there and enjoying the last traces of light. You brought your lighter from your pocket and lit the candles at the tables, the people smiling appreciatively and welcoming you back to the island.
You absolutely loved it here. You hadn't lived here your whole life like many of the other islanders, but when you had arrived around seven years back, they took you in as one of their own. Everyone was exceedingly friendly, and your dream of running an orchard and wine bar was quickly taken up when you had mentioned it in passing to Shep. A lot of people had pitched in, and you would never be able to repay them for that.
That was partly the reason you spent so much time away, because you couldn't possibly cover the cost of running your business just through the wine bar and the sales you made on the island. There simply weren't enough people. Truthfully, you wished that you never had to leave at all.
“Heya Lenny” You smiled at the man currently working the bar.
“Hey boss, looks like you're late again” He smirked, knowing what had kept you.
“Sorry Len, you can go home now, I've got it from here” You chuckled, setting down your bag behind the bar.
“You sure?”
“Yeah, go spend time with that lovely husband of yours” You smirk at him, the emphasis coming from the newness of the title, as they had only got married a month prior.
“Alright, don't threaten me with a good time” He laughed, untying his apron and leaving out the back door.
You settled yourself behind the bar, looking up at all the bottles of wine that adorned the back of it. You smiled, looking at the labels from years gone by, as well as the new additions. You could honestly say that you were proud of yourself for how far you'd come.
“I heard you were looking for me” A voice spoke from behind you, and you instantly knew who it was. You turned towards the front of the bar, and met the soft brown eyes of your favourite customer.
“Who told you that? Wait- let me guess… Omega” You chuckled at the young girl’s attempts to get you two in the same space all the time.
“Oh, you weren't actually looking for me?” Hunter asked, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
“I wasn't, but it's nice to see you anyway” You smile.
“You too. When did you get back? You should've come said hi” Hunter leaned on the bar.
“Only as the sun was going down, I had to get back here anyway” You shrugged, brushing past his comment, “What can I get you?”
“Oh nothing, I was only coming to see why you were looking for me” He backed away from bar a little, “I'll leave you to it”
“To what?” Your eyes sparkled with amusement, casting a glance around the empty bar.
Hunter chuckled a little at the realisation, clearing his throat, “Right, sorry”
“Come on” You grinned, grabbing a bottle from a few years back off of the shelf, as well as two glasses. You held them up as you moved from behind the bar, heading outside, “Have a drink with me?”
Hunter smiled, following behind you, “Sure, why not”
The customers that were here when you got back had since left, so it was just the two of you when you sat down at the table outside. It was quiet as you set down the wine glasses on the table, and poured a sensible amount for both of you. You swirled the deep red liquid in the glass and took a sip, smiling as the different notes hit your taste buds.
Hunter watched you with interest, inspecting the way you enjoyed the drink. He took a small sip from his own glass and swallowed thickly to get it down his throat.
“So” You began, crossing one leg over the other as you looked to the clone across from you, “What's been going on since I was away?”
Hunter began going over everything he could think of that happened, which didn't end up being too much. Pabu was peaceful, nothing catastrophic ever really happened, not counting the sea surge that you still jokingly blamed the bad batch for bringing with them. He recounted how Omega had been doing more flying, and that she was pretty much better than him, Wrecker and Crosshair combined by now. He talked about his brothers so fondly, and you loved to listen to it. The way his mouth curled at the edges as if he was trying to surpress it, the creases at the edges of his eyes giving it away. It was clear to you how much he cared for them all, how he still felt responsible for them, and it always warmed your heart.
“And you? How have you been?” You asked, a knowing smile playing on your lips.
He chuckled breathily, “Yeah I'm fine”
“Just fine?” You arched an eyebrow at him subtly.
“Good, then. I don't know” He shrugged with a small smile.
You shook your head a little. You had told him before that he thinks of himself far too little, so you knew he knew what you were getting at.
“Sorry, I've just been rambling on, what about you? How were your travels?”
A sigh escaped your lips before you gave it permission, “Fine, as always”
Hunter knew you didn't like leaving. You had once drunkenly regaled him with all of the worst tales of your travels, an unfortunate memory your mind replayed often at night when sleep eluded you.
“Did something happen?” He asked.
“No, I'd just rather not have to do it”
“Why do you? Couldn't you get someone else to do it?”
“I wouldn't want to subject anyone else to it, and besides, I've gotta pay the bills somehow” You said with a tight smile.
“I'm sure Shep wouldn't mind helping out in some way” He suggested, but you shook your head forcefully.
“I've already taken too much from the people of Pabu”
Hunter could see the guilt written on your face as plain as day. He wished he could reach out and ease the crease that formed in your brow whenever you were reminded of how much had been given to you in your time on Pabu. You found it hard to accept help, Hunter had learnt that the hard way, but he could never find the right words to express just how much he felt you deserved. He would give you the galaxy if it was his to give, but that was far to obscene to just say in passing.
“It's fine” You blinked a few times, “The time I do get to spend here makes up for it”
Hunter offered you a sympathetic smile, “Omega misses you a lot when you leave”
You chuckled, “That sentence alone makes me want to never leave again”
Hunter huffed a small laugh, understanding completely what you meant. He, along with everyone else, had a hard time saying no to the small blonde clone. The only person he had seen handle saying no to her well, was you.
After a moment of silence, he spoke what was on his mind.
“I miss you when you leave too”
You just took a sip of wine and tried not to react in any sort of way, but that was always more difficult around Hunter, who could sense just about anything, any changes in your body.
“Yeah, I- I miss you too, all of you” You tried to act casually about it. Hunter smiled kindly and your eyes flicked away briefly.
“You not enjoying this one?” You asked, pointing to his almost untouched glass of wine
“Uh…” He scratched his neck, “To be honest, I don't really like any wine” He said cautiously and your mouth dropped open, “Sorry”
“You don't need to apologise, but… Hunter you've been coming here for the better part of a year, and you don't even like any of the drinks we sell?”
“Well… I wasn't really coming for the drinks” He said with a small smile stretching across his face.
You just looked at him puzzled, but he waited for you to figure it out, “I-” You frowned deeply, looking at him and trying to understand, “I'm confused”
He chuckled at your cluelessness, “I only come to see you”
“Oh” You said quietly, almost dumbfounded.
“Yeah, you're either always working, or away, so… I have to take what I can get”
You suddenly felt alive inside.
“I… I would have hung out with you if you had asked”
Hunter cocked his head slightly, looking vaguely amused, “I did ask”
“Well, I didn't know you were serious” You said, your cheeks heating up a little.
“I'm always serious” He replied, earning a laugh from you.
You chewed on the inside of your cheek for a moment, just watching him, and him watching you. He raised an eyebrow slightly as if to ask what was going on in your head. Truthfully, you didn't know.
You then stood up quickly, “Let's get out of here”
“What?”
“There's no one here anyway, let's go to the beach” You said, drinking the remainder of your wine and grabbing the other glass and bottle.
“What's at the beach?”
You shrugged with a grin, “I guess we'll find out”
You're body felt like it had been electrified as Hunter helped you take the tables inside, and your hands were almost shaking as you locked the door. You never did anything spontaneous, especially not nowadays, and the prospect of taking the evening as it came felt exhilarating. You were positively buzzing, maybe from the wine, but mainly from the nervous energy bubbling up inside of you.
Hunter could sense it. It was the strangest sensation, it's like your insides were trying to escape you, pent up with fizzing electricity, like static.
“Race you there?” You smirked up at him, and quickly ran off in the direction of the beach.
Hunter let out a surprised laugh, and for a moment just watched you sprint away from him, his smile taking over his face. He darted after you as you rounded the corner, not necessarily caring to beat you there, but just to engage in your sudden spontaneity.
The wind was whipping at your face, sending your hair flying behind you as you winded around the cobbled streets. You hadn't felt so free, so youthful, in such a long time, and it was nice to indulge in such a feeling.
When you reached the beach, you slipped off your shoes and sunk your toes into the sand. The sensation was strange but familiar, something you hadn't done for years. The sun had fully sunk beneath the horizon now, and the moon was shining proudly, casting a gentle blue light over the waves.
Hunter came to stand beside you, an intrigued smirk curling the edge of his lips. You looked up him, and couldn't help but mirror his expression. He could see the glimmer of mischief in your eyes and waited for whatever idea you had to unfold in front of him. Though, he was wholly unprepared when you grabbed the hem of your shirt and pulled it off.
“Woah!” He stepped back slightly, “Uh… What are you doing?”
“Going swimming” You said simply, unbuttoning your trousers and tugging them down.
Hunter's mind was reeling. One minute you were standing next to him, looking up at him innocently, and now here you were, walking away from him in only your underwear. He couldn't help but let his mouth hang open a little.
You turned to look at him from the edge of the water, “Are you coming?”
The moonlight illuminated the edges of your silhouette, your smirk undeniable even in the low light. Hunter was frozen, the sight in front of him making him breathless. As you turned your body towards him, hands on your hips with your brow arched questioningly, he gulped.
He didn't say anything, but he slowly reached back and took off his shirt. He didn't take his eyes off of you as he unbuttoned his trousers and left them in a crumpled pile with the rest of the discarded clothes. You bit your lip a little, turning back to the ocean and stepping into the water.
It was freezing, and you shivered violently, a small gasp escaping your lips. You waded in, getting used to the temperature, until the water came up to your mid-thigh. You heard a hiss as Hunter followed you in, and looked back at him, a genuine smile on your face.
“How are you in that far? It's kriffing freezing” He grumbled, moving away from the shoreline.
You laughed at him, “What's that? The big bad Sergeant can't handle a little cold water?”
The teasing look on your face was enough to make his knees fold in on themselves, but he kept a calm exterior as he shook his head and stepped into the water again.
“I'm not so bad, am I?” He said in reply to your mocking remark, finally reaching your position.
“Hm” You hummed, arms crossed over your chest, “That remains to be seen”
Hunter's eyebrows raised slightly, looking down at your teasing expression with a smirk. The longer he looked at you like that, the more you cracked, your confident streak fizzling out. He could feel your heart beating faster each second, and saw the light dusting of a blush across your cheeks, and his smirk faded into a more sincere smile.
“Come on” You nodded your head out to sea, “There's a place I want to show you”
You then dove into the water, submerging yourself completely. You broke the surface after a few moments, swimming out into seemingly - to Hunter - the open ocean. After a minute, you got to the rock that jutted out just above the water level, and hauled yourself onto it. Hunter followed after you, reluctantly at first as the freezing water chilled him to his bones, but seeing you sat atop the rock, body glistening in the moonlight, he soon forgot all about the temperature of the water.
Watching Hunter pull himself out of the water was unlike anything you had ever gazed upon. The moon cast a light on the drops of water that ran down his toned body, making it glitter, and highlighting every muscle as it moved to push himself to sit next to you. His hair was pulled down by the weight of the water, the pieces around his face falling over his eyes so that he had to push them away.
You couldn't look away. He was gorgeous.
His chest was heaving as his eyes found yours, both of you out of breath from swimming. The air between you felt different, charged with unspoken feelings that were quickly becoming apparent. Hunter's gaze was serious, a small crease in his brow as he looked at you.
“I don't want you to leave again” He admitted quietly.
You sighed, tearing your eyes away from him. There wasn’t really anything you could say.
“I don't want to either” You confessed, your shoulders slightly slumped.
“Then don't” He urged, and you tilted your head back to him. He looked at you with such longing, his eyes slightly wide and swimming with emotion. He reached out and gently placed his hand on your cheek, “Stay with me”
Your breath caught in your throat, “I can't promise something like that Hunter”
“Why not?” He asked softly.
“I-” You began, but hesitated when Hunter brought your face closer to his.
“Why not?” He asked again, looking so deeply into your eyes that he could be looking at your very soul.
“I- I don't know” You stuttered out, mesmerised by his gaze.
Hunter smirked, “Exactly”
He then immediately pulled away and slid back into the water, swimming towards shore faster than you could possibly keep up with.
“Hey!” You shouted after him, entering the water once more and racing after him. He stood in the shallows as you approached him, but before you could ask what that was all about, he scooped you up into his arms. His hands found themselves under your thighs and he pulled your body towards his, making you let out a small squeal at the sudden and unexpected closeness.
“You're going to stay here, on Pabu. I'm going to make you” He claimed.
“You're going to make me? How do you intend to do that?” You asked with a smile, feeling giddy from his words and the feel of his strong arms holding up your almost bare body.
“Like this” He mumbled before his lips crashed into yours.
The kiss was passionate, so much more so than you were expecting. It was a perfect climax to the tension that had been building all evening, possibly all year, finally bursting and dissipating. His lips moved against yours with an urgency, his plea for you to stay echoed by his actions. He held you close to him, one arm snaking around to your back as you wrapped your legs around his waist. You deepened the kiss, your hand finding itself lightly tugging on his hair at the base of his scalp. He groaned quietly as he devoured your mouth, his teeth gently nipping at your bottom lip. After a short while, you broke away to catch your breath, the kiss feeling like it had taken your very lungs away.
“Well, that was certainly convincing” You grinned, pulling a laugh from Hunter.
He pressed his forehead into yours, his gaze becoming more serious, “If I do it again, will you stay?”
You sighed slightly, but the look in his eyes made you feel like everything in the galaxy was right, exactly how things were right now, with you in his arms. It made you feel alive, and the intense urge to finally do something self-indulgent brought your answer from you.
“Yes” You replied in a whisper, “I'll stay”
His hands gripped you tightly as he brought his lips to yours again, and you completely lost yourself in the sensation.
The feel of his body against yours, his lips on yours, his tongue on yours, were enough to make you want to stay forever. You could figure out the problems this would bring later, but for now, you were eager to get a taste of what the rest of your life could feel like.

words in my mouth
Wolffe x F!Reader

description: you never felt that your friendliness had made a positive impression on the ever elusive, always stern commander wolffe, but that all changes when he overhears a drunken game of truth or dare.
warnings: kinda grumpy/sunshine I suppose, a little fluff at the end, drinking, minor injury detail
a/n: was supposed to be working on my tech oneshot but... I got sidetracked. I also tried to make wolffe less toxic than how he's sometimes represented. grumpy king <3

“Hey Commander!” You chirp cheerily, passing the man in question in the hallway. You know you won’t receive any such a response from him, but you were nothing if not persistent. Sometimes, it was just fun to see his glare and the grinding of his jaw.
Truthfully, you didn’t do it to wind him up, you secretly hoped that one day he would relent and smile back at you. Though that was not in his nature, and perhaps you wouldn’t care to try if it was.
His eyes found yours at the mention of his title, and his teeth instantly ground together. You offered a sweet smile and a wave but his eyes held your gaze with a glare that was so equally lazy and irritated that you almost found it endearing. You were sure no one got under his skin like you did, and that's how you liked it.
“See you later!” You grinned as he walked past, clinging onto his glare so long that he was looking over his shoulder by the time you looked away.
You were stationed on Coruscant with the rest of the 104th for a few weeks at the moment. Usually, you worked aboard General Plo Koon's flagship as a strategist, which was how you got so many opportunities to irritate the broody Commander. You worked closely with him and the General before they were sent off on their missions.
The first time you had met Commander Wolffe, he was so taken aback by your friendliness and positive attitude that he had looked to his General, hoping for some kind of support. Seeing how confused it had made him, you just couldn't resist doing it every time you saw him outside of meetings.
Wolffe was thankful that you kept your overly-sweetened demeanour to outside of meetings, and it was when you became focused and as serious as he was during them, that he truly appreciated your role as a strategist. He wouldn't admit it to you, he hardly had to himself, but he secretly preferred your friendly off-duty persona.
He knew that you were friendly with everyone, but he got a certain thrill every time you went out of your way to say hi to him, to offer him that million-credit smile with the cutest spring in your step. He would be remiss to not realise how beautiful you were, everyone in his company had made at least one comment on it before, but again, he'd never let on.
Wolffe gave no indication of these thoughts and feelings that he kept close to his chest, in fact, he actively worked against them, glaring at you as he just had and not answering your questions that felt like they were meant to taunt him. You drove him up the wall, but in a way where he would lie awake at night and hope to run into you the next day.
Safe to say, you had no idea. No one did.
Though it wasn't long before your own affections came to light.
That night, you had been press-ganged into playing pazaak by Comet and Boost, both of them playing on the same side against you. You had groaned about how unfair it was, but by this point you were all drunk enough that it didn’t matter anymore. If anyone had walked in, they might not have even realised it was pazaak you were playing, you were all playing that poorly. Since you had lost all of your credits to the two clones - unfairly, as you kept reminding them - you were now playing for truth or dares. If they won, you picked truth or dare, and so on and so forth. Hilarity ensues, for them.
You lost another round, but you were past caring now.
“Alright. Truth this time” You sighed.
Comet grinned lazily, “I have a good one”
You rolled your eyes, “So, you mean, it’s actually bad”
“Shhhhh” Boost pressed a finger to your lips haphazardly, “Let the man speak”
You pushed him off, “Lay it on me”
“If you had to kiss one of us clones, who would it be?” Comet leaned forwards as he relayed the question.
“Ooh, that is a good one”
You laughed instinctively, “I’m not answering that”
“No. The rules dictate you must answer the question” Boost slurred.
“The rules?” You chuckled, “I think we lost our grip on rules a while ago”
“Cmon” Comet almost whined, pushing at your knee.
For a moment you placed a finger on your chin, pretending to think really hard, but then it was shortly over taken by a smirk as your brain brought forth exactly the clone to answer the question.
“So there is someone then!” Boost pointed at your borderline mischievous look.
“Keep your voice down!” You hissed at him, swatting his accusing finger away.
“You’ve got to tell us now” Comet insisted.
“No. I’m not saying”
“Okay well we’re just gonna start guessing and see how you react” Boost sat back in his chair, “Well there’s me, Comet…”
You rolled your eyes affectionately as they continued to list off people from their company. It was almost worth it to let them do it to see if they remembered everyone, but it was getting a little tiresome at the same time.
“Alright, alright. I'll kriffing tell you” You finally relented. Somehow they hadn’t guessed right yet.
The pair sat across from you leaned in with the biggest grins plastered across their faces, and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes again.
“I guess I don't hate the idea of making out with the Commander” You said coyly, as if you didn’t know how insane that was going to make them.
They both let out a borderline scream, Boost even jumped up from his chair for a minute. Your laughter forced its way out of you from their reaction.
“So what you really mean is, you’ve already thought about making out with the Commander” Comet asked with a knowingly raised eyebrow.
“Alright, that wasn’t part of the game” You shook your head, sitting back.
“Come on” Boost whined, and it cracked you easily in your drunken state.
“Fine. Maybe I have. So what?”
If either of the clones grinned any wider their faces would surely have split in half.
“So that's why you're so friendly with him, you have a crush on him” Boost laughed loudly, and you jumped to cover his mouth, but just a little too late.
“Will you please be quiet!” You hissed, and they erupted into even louder laughter at your reaction.
You grumbled under your breath and moved back, picking up the bottle of spotchka and pouring them both another cup.
“I’m making sure the both of you don’t remember this tomorrow” You mumbled.

Regrettably, both Comet and Boost were fully operational with no hangover and a complete memory the next morning, unlike yourself. You didn’t have a particularly low alcohol tolerance but the sheer amount of straight liquor that you drank last night was catching up with you. You had an agonizing headache and felt so foggy that you didn’t even know you were walking past the Commander. He called out to you, and you realised you had been walking down the corridor with your head in your hand as you looked to the floor.
“Are you… Alright?” He asked hesitantly, the words feeling unfamiliar coming from him.
You cleared your throat and smoothed down your hair slightly, hyper-aware of your less-than-alive looking appearance. You had really hoped not to see him today. Your eyes found his, his one natural eye holding a certain level of concern that turned your stomach.
“Yes sir, just… Drank a bit too much last night is all” You spoke, and your voice was more hoarse than you were hoping.
“What were you drinking? You look awful” He crossed his arms, looking down at you with his usual frown.
“How kind of you to point out” You chuckled, “It was spotchka, Boost and Comet convinced me to play pazaak against both of them”
“Well that was a mistake” He said flatly, his eyes moving to something behind you.
“Yeah, I can see that no-”
You were cut off as someone shoved your back harshly, sending you flying towards the Commander’s chest. Luckily, he saw the incoming attack and grabbed your shoulders before you could make impact. It was the first time he had ever touched you, and if you weren’t so angry your brain might have lingered on the warmth you could feel through his gloves.
You whirled around, looking for the culprit, and as expected, there stood Boost and Comet, snickering with each other.
“You’re going to regret that” You seethed, and their eyes widened, running away as you leapt at them.
Wolffe watched you sprint after his men, and failed to suppress the small smile quirking his lips. He had a little idea of what that might have been about.

Over the next couple of days, you had to keep your wits about you, particularly when you spotted Wolffe in the vicinity. You were constantly looking over your shoulder, as you had now been shoved number of times, being sent careening into the Commander. You apologised profusely each time, then turned around to whack whichever one of the two menace clones had done it this time. Wolffe couldn’t find it in himself to be annoyed by it, in fact, he almost looked forward to it.
He would grab your arms to steady you, and the wide-eyed look you gave him each time was enough to set his insides alive. One time, when you really hadn’t been expecting it, he had grabbed you by the waist, and somewhere in the altercation your hands ended up splayed against his chest plate. Your eyes went wide as always, and in addition, you cheeks flushed a deep red and your mouth hung agape. You couldn’t seem to move or say anything for a moment, only being snapped from your trance when Wolffe had raised an eyebrow at you. That interaction had only earned you an earful from Comet about how ‘down bad’ you were.
Even now as you walked into an important meeting, you couldn't get it out of your head, and the fact that Wolffe was stood waiting for you with the General was no help. The reality of your silly crush came crashing down on you. It wasn't just some fleeting fancy, this affection for Wolffe had been festering within you, and you had only been intensifying it each time you goaded him.
His eyes followed you as you walked inside, settling yourself at the central holotable and looking into it despondently. His eyebrows drew together in a frown as he walked towards you.
“Everything alright?” He asked as he rested on the holotable beside you. You jumped at the sound of his voice, looking up only briefly when realising who it was.
“Yeah, yeah” You replied non-commitally, causing Wolffe's frown to deepen.
“You sure?” He asked again, bringing his hand to your shoulder. You instinctively ducked away from it, stepping away from him, your body feeling like it had been struck by lightning.
“I'm fine” You managed to peep out.
Wolffe let his hand hang in the air for a moment, before he quickly brought it to his side again. What was he doing? He didn't touch people. He didn't double check if people were okay. But why had you moved away? Did he not overhear you right the other night? Was it someone else's name that you had said?
He could feel an embarrassed blush scorching his ears as General Plo Koon joined you both at the holotable, which he mostly did a good job of hiding. You, however, were doing a poor job of acting normal, and Plo Koon looked between the both of you suspiciously for a moment.
“Has something happened that I should be made aware of?” He spoke and you were pulled out of your mind that was purely filled by screaming thoughts.
“No sir” You shook your head, “Let's get to work”
Wolffe had always applauded your professionalism, and he was never more thankful for it than in that moment.

You had scampered from the command room as soon as the meeting was over. You didn't want to think for a while, so you had gone to your workstation in the hangar, hoping to rid the Commander from your mind.
Thus far, you had been unsuccessful.
You were trying to solder together two wires, but your hand kept slipping, your mind absolutely preoccupied by the few touches that Wolffe had allowed you in the past few days. Well, most of them had not been allowed, but the most recent one, the one you could still feel burning at your skin…
You grunted in frustration, just as Boost came strolling by with a wide grin.
“How’s it going?” He asked, spurred on by your glare.
“Not good. No thanks to you” You grumbled, looking back down to your work.
“Oh come on, it's just a bit of fun” He said, taking a seat on your workstation.
“For you. I can’t say I enjoy being pushed around all too much” You said pointedly, giving him a withering look.
He just shrugged with a grin, “I think you do really”
You huffed, continuing on with your work despite the distraction. At least your mind was off of Wolffe now. You weren't thinking about the feel of his hand on your shoulder, or your waist, the strength of his grip, this intensity of his gaze… oh kriff, who were you kidding.
“Boost I need you to-”
Before you could even register who's voice it was, Boost was pushing your side into the Commander. You cried out as the soldering tool stabbed and burned into your other hand suddenly, drawing blood and cauterising the wound all at once. It was a mess, and Boost immediately began apologising.
Wolffe sighed agressively, righting you again, “I'll patch her up, you best kriff off now Boost”
There was no room for objection in his tone, and Boost slinked off with another apology, and guilt weighing his shoulders.
“Do you have a medkit here?” Wolffe asked as you rested your back against the workstation, holding your hand closed with the other one.
“Bottom drawer” You said, unable to meet his gaze, unable to focus on anything but the searing pain in your palm.
He retrieved the medkit and opened it up, setting it down on the desk and taking off his gloves, “Alright, let's see it”
He took your hands in his, and that's when your breathing stopped. His hands were unexpectedly soft and gentle, pulling your hand away from the wounded one and opening it up. There was blood smeared all over your palm and fingers, but all you could focus on was Wolffe. The feeling of his hands as they cleaned you up, the gentleness of his grip and the lack of a scowl on his features.
“So are you going to tell me why the boys have been doing this all week?” He said, looking up to find you already looking into his eyes when he had wrapped your hand.
You huffed a bit, “I don't know, because they're idiots, mainly”
Wolffe hummed thoughtfully, “So it has nothing to do with the conversation I overheard the other night?”
You froze completely.
“What?” You managed to peep out, but it was barely above a whisper.
Wolffe’s lips curled into a small smirk, “Something about… not minding the idea of making out with me?” He jogged your memory teasingly.
You could feel your heart beating faster and faster, your insides constricting and your throat drying up. He had heard exactly what you had said.
“It was just a silly game we were playing” You tried to play it off but Wolffe wasn't having it.
“Mhm” He hummed amusedly, “A game which - if I'm not mistaken - has the word ‘truth’ somewhere in the title”
You had to rip your eyes from his at that point, it was becoming too uncomfortable, and you could feel the blush creeping up your neck. He stepped forwards so that his boots were touching yours, his chest almost against yours.
“So you're saying you haven't thought about it?” He asked, his voice in a slightly lower register, giving it a slightly gravelly tone.
You gulped. “No, I havent” You lied through your teeth, but you were never good at that, and it was given away by the quiver in your voice.
“That's a shame” Wolffe mumbled, and your eyes snapped back to his, slightly widened.
You were sweating at this point, your body feeling like it was on fire with his so close by. Wolffe just smirked knowingly.
“Ah, so it's true, you really do want me to kiss you?” He leaned forward a fraction more, his chest brushing against yours as he placed one hand on the bench behind you, the other finding your waist.
You were burning up under his gaze and now his touch, unable to think clearly.
“I feel like you're putting words in my mouth” You spoke breathlessly, clearly flustered as you looked between his eyes and anything around him in a panic. Wolffe just chuckled, gripping your waist tighter.
“I don't think I am darling”
By then, he was only a hairbreadth from your lips, and all the composure you still had was hanging by a thread.
“Commander, what…?” You trailed off, you couldn't make sense of the situation. You had assumed he found you completely irritating and just plain didn't like you, only holding it together in meetings because he had to. But now, with his breath mingling with yours, you were left confused.
“Do you not want me to kiss you?” He asked sincerly, his face moving back slightly and eyes flicking over your face for any sign that you didn't want this. Your eyes closed at the feel of his hot breath on your lips and you let out a shaky breath.
“I…” You couldn't muster up any words, your brain wasnt functioning as it should. The only thing you could get out, was “Why?”
He chuckled lowly, and your eyes opened to see the skin around his eyes crinkled slightly as he smiled fondly.
“Believe it or not, I don't find you anywhere near as annoying as I pretend I do. In fact…” He said quietly, brushing a piece of hair behind your ear before settling his palm against your cheek, “I might even like you, just a bit”
Wolffe could see your eyes sparkle at his words, “Really?”
“Really” He said resolutely.
You couldn't help but smile up at him, that winning smile that he so loved.
“See, how could I resist a smile like that”
You blushed and looked down shyly, unsure how to deal with this kind of attention from the Commander. You were used to him being cold, not necessarily ignoring you, but just not engaging with your friendly advances. That, you could deal with, but this, was something else entirely.
He tilted your head up again with a finger under your chin, “Not like you to be so quiet. Something on your mind darling?”
The pet name rolled so easily off his tongue despite how strange it was to hear from him, but the more you became intoxicated by his presence surrounding you, the more right it felt.
He's right, usually you had something to say. A quick joke, a quip, a small compliment at the very least, but nothing was coming to mind. You could only look at him and hope to convey everything that your mind wouldn't bring forth.
Your eyes naturally flicked down from his, trailing along his mouth that was so close to yours, and back up to his cybernetic one. He was so effortlessly handsome, in a way you didn't see with the other clones. Perhaps his eye set him apart, or perhaps it was his usual attitude. You didn't know, but with him pressing you into your workstation, there was no way that you'd figure it out right then and there.
“Wolffe” You whispered, the name causing his eyebrows to raise. You had never called him by his name, not once, and that was certainly not lost on him.
“What is it, Mesh'la?” He said lowly, his head tipping forwards to lightly press his forehead to yours. Your breathing evened out at the comforting gesture.
“Kiss me” You whispered, your lips almost grazing his.
He grinned, speaking almost as quietly, “I thought you'd never ask”
Then his lips were on yours.
He held your waist tightly as his lips moved in perfect harmony with yours, melding together in a dance of quiet passion. You had never been kissed with such reverence, such intensity and yet such sweetness. His lips captured yours as if they were made to fit together, and they had finally found their purpose in meeting. The kiss didn't last long, but all that needed to be confessed was laced within it's lingering aftertaste.
Wolffe pulled away, his grin no longer taunting in anyway, but just one of genuine contentment. His thumb stroked your cheek gently as he held you to him with his other arm.
“Was it everything you hoped it'd be?” He asked, rubbing his nose against yours slightly.
You chuckled softly, a smile parting your lips, “It was way better”
“Better?” Wolffe raised his eyebrows slightly, “So, in your wildest dreams I was a lousy kisser?”
“That's not what I meant” You frowned a little.
“What did you mean then?” He asked with a growing smirk.
“Just that it was really grea-” You paused, observing his amused expression, “You knew what I meant” You rolled your eyes affectionately, earning an amused huff from Wolffe.
“I did” He mumbled with a smile, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, “I just wanted to hear you say it”

In the weeks following Kan and Echo rekindling their friendship, Kan slowly began to get a grasp on her new role in the ranks, which was mainly because Echo was now there to support her. He was there to remind her not to let her worries overtake her, and a hand on her arm, or an encouraging smile, usually did the trick. Echo's presence calmed her in an instant, and the task of leading didn't seem as daunting with him around. Not that it was always so simple.
Kan stepped out of the command room, rubbing a hand over her face and sighing deeply. Echo was quick to notice as he exited behind her.
“Have you been sleeping?” He asked, stopping her in the corridor.
“I've been sleeping fine yeah, its just… My mind. My mind is tired” She admitted.
“What's wrong?” Echo frowned.
Kan exhaled a long breath, “I really don't know if I'm meant to lead people. It's really outside of my comfort zone even now, and it's just got my brain going into overdrive. I can't stop thinking about… What if something really bad happened under my watch? Or because of a decision I made? I don't think I could cope Echo”
Echo's expression softened the more Kan spoke, a silent admiration of her showing on his features. He placed his hands on her shoulders, something he noted that helped to ground her and gain her focus entirely.
“M'aira, you're doing a great job, and you'll continue to. Rex wouldn't choose you for this if he didn't think you could do it or handle it, and if it means anything to you, I believe in you too”
Kan let a shy smile lift the edges of her lips, “Thanks, it means a lot yeah”
Echo returned her smile, “Now, come with me, I have a small surprise for you”
“You do?” Kan looked up at him with slightly widened eyes.
“It's nothing special” He said as he took his hands away from her shoulders and began walking towards her office, “I just figured that since you seem to insist on sleeping in your office every night…”
Echo opened the door, showing his handiwork to Kan.
“…That having your bunk in here might be the way to go. That way I can stop worrying about you as well”
Kan grinned up at the clone, wrapping her arms around his waist and giving him a quick tight squeeze, “Thank you Echo, you're too kind to me”
Echo shook his head with a smile, resisting the urge to pull Kan back towards him, “Not really, if I was kind I would have tidied up in here too”
Kan looked around her office, still messy as ever. It seemed that Echo had just pushed the worst of the mess aside to make room for the bed.
“It's fine, I don't mind it like this anyway, the mess doesn't really bother me” She shrugged.
Echo huffed a small laugh, “I don't think I could cope if my office was this messy”
Kan hummed thoughtfully, her eyes darting across the mess.
“When do you leave for your mission?” Kan asked, looking back up into his honey eyes.
“We leave early tomorrow morning” Echo gave a sad smile.
“So I won't see you before you go?” Kan questioned, and Echo shook his head. Kan chewed on her bottom lip for a moment, “I wish I was going with you”
Echo could feel the words tugging at his heart, “I don't”
Kan gave him a stern look, her eyebrows drawn together.
He chuckled, “You can't get hurt if you don't go at all”
“You think I can't handle myself?” Kan asked, minorly offended but mostly confused.
“Oh I know you can, I‘m just happier knowing you're safe” Echo confessed, and he could feel his cheeks heating at the slightly vulnerable admission.
Kan just huffed, “Well it doesn't get much more safe than sitting around in the base all day”
“You'll get your chance to go into the field again, don't worry” He assured, a hand on her shoulder.
Kan smiled. Her eyes didn't meet his for a few seconds, but when they did he could tell there was a certain sadness laced within the gentle expression.
“Be safe, yeah?” She urged quietly.
Echo smiled softly, the edges of his eyes crinkling, “I will”
Without warning and much thought of her own, Kan wrapped her arms around Echo again, more tenderly this time. Echo could feel his heart beating out of his chest as he gently wrapped her in his own arms, resting his cheek on the top of her head.
In the past weeks, Kan had become more physically comfortable around Echo, and though he enjoyed it thoroughly, it was still always a little startling. Especially with a touch so gentle and tender as the hug she was currently giving him, it was hard to not be overwhelmed.
“Don't do anything stupid. Don't get yourself hurt” Kan spoke into his chest, and he was certain she could hear how furiously his heart was beating.
“I won't” He replied, hugging her tighter into his body to reassure her, “I promise”

Kan nodded along, listening intently as Rex detailed the upcoming mission. She was a little disappointed to not seem to be going on this mission, as they were going to be infiltrating the base that she had discovered through listening in on the Empire's long range comms. It was a dangerous job, they knew nothing about what this prison would be like once they were in, but that was the reason they were set on going. There were clones being imprisoned there, and they wanted to know why.
“Now, while all that is going on, me and Kan will be on a separate directive, looking to garner any information about this prison” Rex continued, and Kan's ears perked up, her posture straightening at the mention of her.
Rex hadn't discussed this with her before, but she was more than happy to do it, particularly with him.
“That's the plan as of now, but we'll have to wait until more men are back here to enact it” Rex moved away from the central holotable and crossed his arms, “I suggest getting some good rest tonight, they could be back at any time and I want to get this done as soon as possible”
Rex dismissed the clones, and Kan was immediately at his side.
“Rex, about the-”
“Sorry to spring that on you, I was hoping to speak with you earlier but your door was locked” Rex explained.
“Ah right, yeah, I was… tidying”
“Tidying?” Rex raised an eyebrow, a small smirk quirking his lips.
“Yeah, anyway, I wanted to ask you-”
Kan didn't get the chance to finish her question as the door to the command centre zipped open and her focus was drawn towards it. She did a double take, the sight she took in not registering in her mind at first.
It was Echo. He was back from his mission, but something was wrong. His form was alarmingly straight and rigid, his forearm resting against the door frame and holding him up. Each small movement sent a twitch to his face, his teeth clenched and eyes squeezed shut, nostrils flared.
Kan's heart leapt to her throat, and she rushed over to him.
“What happened?” She spoke hurriedly, paying no mind to the other clones around them who watched on.
Echo exhaled shakily, “Got… shot, in the back”
Kan tried so desperately to remain calm despite the sound of her heart pounding in her ears. She turned to look at Rex over her shoulder, hoping for some kind of support.
“We haven’t got a proper medic” He said, clearly shaken by his brother's condition.
That snapped Kan into gear, “I've got medical training, I've got it”
Kan took Echo's arm and threw it over her shoulder, pulling a pained groan from him. She quickly led him to her office, which was only just down the hall, and smacked the door panel in a frantic hurry. She set him down on the bed gently and instantly went about rooting around in the draws of her desk looking for her medkit. When she had found it, she looked up at Echo, who was trying to take off his armour, and failing as his wound cried out in pain.
“Stop, let me do it” Kan spoke instantly, standing in front of him and shooing his hands away.
Her fingers got working on the clasps, starting with his arms and working her way up, exactly as Echo did it.
“How do you know how to do this?” He asked, fighting through his pain.
“I've watched you do it enough times” Kan replied, a small shrug in her shoulders as she focused. Echo would've smirked but his chest plate dug into his wound as she took it off. “Sorry” She whispered.
“S'fine” Echo managed to hiss out as Kan climbed over the bed to sit behind him cross-legged. She tried to survey the damage, to see how bad it really was, but to no avail.
“Could you take this off?” Kan asked, her fingers playing with the hem of his blacks.
If it was possible, Echo’s body seized up even more. He nervously fidgeted his own fingers along the hem, letting out an exasperated huff. His blaster wound was sending small shocks through his body with every movement, but he was single-mindedly focused on not letting Kan take off his top.
Kan noted his discomfort immediately, and let out a sigh.
“Echo” She spoke so gently from behind him, resting a hand on his shoulder, “It's okay, please let me help you”
Echo relented with a slump of his shoulders, “Okay”
Kan helped to peel off the tight base layer, several pained noises escaping the man she was helping. As she saw the wound, she couldn't help but suck a sharp breath between her teeth. Three blaster bolts scorched into his lower back, creating a cluster of open wounds.
Echo assumed her reaction was to seeing the cybernetic attachments he had in his back. His breath was shaky as he tried to calm himself, but it only became more unstable as Kan traced around the outside of his wound.
“I told you to be safe Echo” She whispered, “You promised not to get hurt”
She sounded so solemn, and Echo couldn't find it in himself to say anything. Thankfully, she then got to work on the wound, but it wasn't without discomfort. She first administered a pain relief injection, and his breath caught in his throat as she cupped the side of his neck to do so. She warned him every time she was going to touch him, the antiseptic wipe against his wound making him flinch and grunt more than he wished, stinging even with the pain relief. She placed a bacta patch over the area when she had cleaned it appropriately, and it stung for just a second before the bacta started working it's magic.
“Does that feel better?” She asked quietly, and Echo just nodded
Kan ran her fingers along the edge of the metal apparatus that climbed up his back, causing Echo to shudder under her touch. The feeling of it was so intimate, yet so tainted by sadness and clouded by self-concious thoughts that Echo couldn't focus on the warmth of Kan's fingers against his bare back.
“You're lucky, they almost hit your spine” She spoke, sounding resoundingly serious.
Echo could only hang his head. He felt so ashamed. He had worked hard to get past this mindset, but with the woman he desired like no other sitting behind him and inspecting the damage done to his body, he couldn't help it.
Kan could understand a little of what Echo was thinking, she just hoped she was wrong. She slid from behind him and knelt in front of him on the floor, but he wouldn't look at her.
“Echo” She said as gently as she could, placing a hand on his knee, “I'm glad you're okay”
Echo looked up to her, and the emotions she saw swimming in his eyes were almost enough to bring her to tears.
“What can I say to make you feel better?” She asked in a whisper, for fear that speaking louder would cause him to break.
“There's nothing to say” He said firmly, looking down to his lap.
Kan couldn't help but reach out. She placed a hand on his face, lightly rubbing her thumb along his cheekbone.
“Please talk to me” She pleaded.
After a moment of painful silence, Echo sighed, “I don't show people my cybernetics for a reason”
“Echo it's okay-”
“But it's not” He frowned, his eyes snapping to Kan’s once more. “It's not okay. The attachments, they- they're not exactly desirable, and no one wants someone with all… this. I-” He puffed out a sad breath, the next admission feeling daunting, “It makes me feel like I'm half a man”
Kan's heart broke.
“That's not true” She said sternly, both hands now on his cheeks, forcing him to pay attention to her words, “You're every bit of a man as any other, and even more than that, you're a good man Echo. Anyone would be lucky to have you”
“Anyone?” Echo asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.
Kan wasn't really sure what he was asking. Was he asking because he just wanted confirmation that she was telling the truth? Or was it something more? She weighed her options of what to say, biting into her bottom lip with her eyebrows pinched. She couldn't just admit to her affections for him right now if that wasn't what he was after.
Instead, she took her hands away from his face, sitting back of her heels with a shy look on her face, “Yes, anyone”
Kan stood up and grabbed the medkit, taking it back over to the desk and placing it in the draw.
“You stay here tonight, I'll take your bunk” She said, turning around to meet Echo's intense gaze once more.
“No, I'm fine, I'll-” He was interrupted by his own sharp intake of breath as he tried to stand.
Kan smiled at him knowingly and walked over, placing her hands on his shoulder to keep him rooted to the bed.
“Please, stay here” She insisted.
She found herself lost in Echo's eyes. So many emotions were flitting through them and she couldn't keep track. She absent-mindedly began rubbing her thumb along his bare collarbone, before she realised what she was doing and pulled away.
“I'll see you tomorrow” She nodded to him, leaving quickly and shutting the door behind her.
Echo let out a breath that he didn't realise he was holding and laid back on the bed. His mind was full to the brim with every thought he’d had about Kan since meeting her.
Her distinct scent enveloped him as he crawled into her bunk. He inhaled deeply, letting it take him over and overpower him, washing away his troubled thoughts, and eventually letting it lull him into a peaceful sleep.

Echo woke up to the sight of Kan sat at her desk, or more accurately, crouched. Her feet were on the seat of the chair, and she was curled up, her knees against her chest as she looked over something on her computer, her glasses hanging onto the tip of her nose.
She noticed him stir and looked over with a shy smile, “Morning”
“Morning” He replied, and she gulped at the gravelly sound of his voice.
“What time is it?”
“Around 0830, I grabbed you some caf” Kan nodded to the cup next to her on the desk.
Echo sat up with a small groan and suddenly felt very insecure about not wearing a shirt around Kan, who on the other hand was extremely flushed at seeing his exposed body.
“Here” She handed him the cup of caf, “It might be a little cold by now, but it's better than nothing, maybe”
“Thank you” He smiled gratefully and took a sip. “I didn't fully realise yesterday but…” He looked around the room, “It's really tidy in here”
“Well you said you prefer things to be organised” Kan shrugged, her eyes unmoving from the holoscreen of her computer, and his eyes snapped back to her.
“I didn't mean that you should tidy your space”
“Well, I wanted you to feel comfortable in here” Kan said simply.
Echo’s heart clenched more with every word she spoke, feeling so moved by her actions once again.
“That's very kind M'aira, but I already did”
Kan looked to him upon hearing the sincerity in his voice, her eyes trailing down his exposed chest and gulping again, “It was long overdue a clean anyway”
Echo just watched as her eyes flicked over the holoscreen. She seemed more on edge than she had been when he woke up, and he leaned forwards, “M'aira, is everything okay?”
Kan looked to him and her eyes dragged up and down his body again without her permission. This time Echo noticed.
“Yeah I'm fine” She looked back to the holoscreen.
“Sorry, am I making you uncomfortable?” Echo asked, his cheeks heating up with slight embarrassment as he grabbed his shirt from the newly cleaned floor.
“Um” Kan looked back at him again. She didn’t want him to think it was because of his cybernetic attachments, but she was floundering for something to say. “Not uncomfortable, just… distracted maybe” Her cheeks flushed deeply as she turned away again, and she missed the surprised look on Echo's face.
He tilted his head to the side, staring at the Mirialan woman, “Distracted?”
“Mhm” She said more squeakily than she had meant to, not daring to look at him.
A small smirk graced Echo's features as he pulled on his blacks and came to stand by her, leaning on the back of her chair, “What are you up to?”
“Trying to recover the files from this datacard” She pointed to the card that was stuck into her computer, the one he had retrieved yesterday and dropped on the floor of the command room.
He nodded, “And how long have you been… sitting like this?”
“All morning, why?”
Echo winced, “That's gotta be killing your back”
“It's fine” She rolled her shoulders backwards and he heard a few cracks.
“If you insist, sounds like you could use a massage though”
Kan chuckled, “Oh yeah? And who around here is gonna be the one to do it? You?” She smirked up at him, but her face fell instantly, and she turned back, “Don't answer that”
Echo's face contorted into one of equal confusion and amusement. He came to stand next to her and leaned his cybernetic hand on her desk, getting in her field of view, “What's got into you today?”
“I don't know what you're talking about” She replied quickly
“Hm” Echo hummed, a smirk stretching across his face
“How's your wound?” Kan asked, trying to change the subject.
Echo stood up straight again, “A little sore”
“Turn around” She demanded, her eyes still on the screen. Echo did as she said, and could feel her lift up his blacks, and peel back the bacta patch.
“Looks like it's healing well, stay still” Kan removed the patch and replaced it with fresh one. “There” She said and put the medkit away.
Echo turned back to her, but she was already looking at the screen again.
“M'aira” He spoke softly, making her look up to him. Using the nickname that only he had for her made her suddenly feel so oddly shy, “Thank you for letting me stay here”
“Anytime” She smiled, “Uh, I meant-”
“I know what you meant” He smiled back, “I'll see you around”
Echo brought his hand to her face and gently stoked her cheek with the back of his knuckles, before moving towards the door without another word.
“Bye” Kan said softly as he left, tracing her cheek where his touch still burned into her skin.

At lunch time, Kan was sat with Teddy, Howzer and Oscar, but she was once again gazing over at Echo.
She was a little perplexed by his simple action from earlier, but she was beginning to play with the idea that it wasn't entirely outside the realm of possibility that Echo might feel similar affections to her, for her. When she really thought about it, it didn't seem crazy, but the idea of facing up to it and telling him how she felt certainly did.
Howzer watched Kan for a moment, practically drooling over someone across the room, “Got your eye on someone there K?”
“What? No” Kan looked down, taking a forkful of food and almost choking on it with how quick she swallowed it.
“Come on, you're always looking over there, which one of them is it?” Howzer pressed, leaning in with a taunting smirk.
“You're making stuff up” Kan shook her head disapproving.
“I bet it's Rex” Oscar grinned.
“It's not Rex” Kan screwed up her face at the accusation.
“No I reckon it's Gregor” Howzer smirked.
“You guys clearly don't pay attention” Teddy shook his head at his brothers. Naturally, having talked to Kan about it, he already knew which one of them it was, but he wasn't above teasing her about it. “Echo wasn't in his bunk last night, but do you know who was?” He looked to Kan and she blushed deeply, her head tilting away from the clones.
“Oh my god, you're with Echo?” Oscar gasped, a little too loudly for Kan’s taste. She leaped forwards to try and stop him but she was far too late.
“I'm not with him” She whispered aggressively.
“But you like him, don't you?” Howzer smirked and Kan’s stern demeanour faltered a little.
“Maybe a bit, so what?”
“So…” Howzer drew out the word with an eye roll, “Why don't you make a move?”
“What? No! I don't even know if he likes me that way” Kan sat back, frowning.
“Be serious” Teddy deadpanned.
“Besides, this isn't exactly the place for it, we've all got a job to do here and I'm not compromising that for anyone” Kan reasoned, just saying anything to get them off her back, but the sentiment surprisingly rang true when she thought more about it.
“Yeah yeah, that's as good an excuse as any, but I think we all deserve a little happiness too” Howzer said more seriously.
“Whatever” Kan mumbled, not particularly wanting to continue the conversation.
“Ugh, I can't believe you're cheating on me” Oscar huffed with a pout.
“Please, I would never be yours in a million years” Kan rolled her eyes affectionately, the running joke only wearing her down a little. The others snickered, Howzer nudging his brother a little.
“That's just unnecessary” Oscar grumbled, playing with his food.

Kan sat on the edge of the landing platform outside of the base, taking in the last of the next evening's sun. The gentle breeze swayed her hair, making it tickle at her face.
“Mind if I join you?” A cheery voice called out to her, and she looked around to see Gregor striding over.
“Sure” She replied.
Gregor took his seat beside her and smiled, “You ready for this upcoming mission?”
“Yeah I can't wait” Kan breathed out, a grin taking over her face.
Gregor returned the expression, “Always so eager huh?”
Kan shrugged, “I like being out in the field, makes me feel useful”
“Yeah I get that” Gregor replied, “Echo's enroute with the clone by the way, he commed me a little bit ago, should be here any moment”
As if on cue, a ship descended past the clouds and made its way towards the landing platform where Kan and Gregor sat. They tracked it with their eyes, standing up when it landed.
Kan had tried to get Echo to stay, to let his wound heal, but it was difficult to win against the fierce loyalty he had to his brothers. She was glad to see him again now, of course, but the surprise that awaited her when the ship's door opened far exceeded her expectations. The unmistakable webbed scar that earned the man his name made recognition wash over her immediately.
Kan's body froze. Then, not a moment later, she was running. She ran towards the man she'd once proudly called her brother, her ori'vod. His eyes locked with hers and instantly went wide, almost convinced he was hallucinating. Kan stopped just in front of him, her sudden hesitancy obvious on her features.
“Don't worry” Spider tapped the side of his head where a thin scar could be seen through his closely cropped hair, “I'm not going to hurt you”
Kan felt completely overwhelmed by her emotions, and jumped at the clone, her arms wrapping tightly around his neck. Spider held her close, his strong grip keeping her off of the ground as he spun her around. He laughed deeply as he placed her down, and the familiar sound made her chest fill with warmth.
“I missed you vod'ika” He grinned, unable to hide his glee at seeing her once more.
“I missed you too” She smiled, looking over his face and taking in the ways he had changed.
The lines on his face were more defined than she remembered, and his eyes held a certain exhausted quality that told her he had not had an easy go of it, whatever he had been up to since she saw him last.
Spider’s grin faded, “I'm so sorry for everything, for what happened the last time I saw you”
“It's okay, I know it wasn't your fault” Kan sighed.
“I know but… I remember it all. I remember your face when we turned on you, when I… I don't think I'll ever forget”
Kan put her hand on his face, over his scar, “It's okay Spider, I forgive you”
The clone leaned into her touch, a contented sigh escaping him, “It's really good to see you Kan, I'm glad you're okay”
“Likewise” She smiled, then dropped her hand from his face. “Come” She ushered him over to meet Gregor, who had since been joined by Rex.
“You guys know each other?” Rex asked.
“Yeah, my vod'ika here was the best engineer in the 41st” Spider ruffled her hair.
“The only engineer in the 41st” Kan mumbled with a smirk, fixing her hair.
“Kan, you served in the GAR?” Gregor asked, eyebrows raised in surprise.
“Uh- yeah, sort of” She said sheepishly.
“That makes so much sense” Rex said thoughtfully, thinking about the way she went on in the command centre, “Why didn't you say anything?”
“Uh-” She looked to Echo who had joined the group silently, then to Spider, who's expression told her he knew exactly why, “Just not always something I want to remember, maybe”
“Right” Rex nodded, understanding all too well, “Well anyway, it's Spider right?”
As the other three clones found themselves in conversation, Kan looked to Echo again. He was grinding his jaw slightly, looking to the floor and not partaking in the conversation at all. She tried to catch his eye, but he was seemingly avoiding eye contact altogether, so instead she reached out. He was only stood next to her, so she lightly brushed his pinky finger with hers.
His head snapped up, eyes locking with hers, slightly widening when she locked her finger around his.
“Are you okay?” She asked in a whisper, and he just nodded, giving her a tight smile and looking away again, taking his hand away from hers and crossing his arms.
Kan continued to watch him, a frown creasing her brow. She wondered if something had happened on his trip, and broadly she just wondered why he was acting like this.
Echo knew he was being childish, acting up because he got his feelings hurt, but it was hard to stop himself. Seeing Kan so gleefully bound into Spiders arms had set his teeth on edge, and it didn't take a genius to guess why. He couldn't stop the feeling of jealousy that arose in his gut and spread throughout him like a wildfire.
It made sense, she hadn't seen Spider in a long time, but the idea of there now being someone here at the base that she was closer with than him, made him nervous. He had no right to be angry with her at all, he hadn't expressed his feelings for her so explicitly, though he'd think her a fool for not realising, everyone else had. For now, he'd rather be avoidant of the issue than talk about it, especially right now in front of everyone.

“This is your office?” Spider asked sceptically as Kan showed him inside.
“Yeah…?” Kan replied.
“Why's it so tidy in here? I've never known you be so tidy”
Kan chuckled nervously, “Heh, you know, just felt like cleaning”
Spider narrowed his eyes at her, “Hm, I don't buy it”
Kan rolled her eyes, taking a seat at her desk while Spider took the bunk. They spent the evening catching up, talking about their experiences in the war and beyond. Spider had defected from the Empire almost immediately after order 66, which had earned him a one way ticket straight to prison, where he had remained until Rex's people had managed to get him out. Kan told him of how she had been working with Senator Organa until she'd heard of the base here, and told him of the missions she had done since. Spider couldn't help but notice how often Echo's name came up.
“Ah, okay” Spider nodded slowly, a wide grin stretching across his face, “I get it”
“Get what?” Kan asked, her head cocked in confusion.
“You and this Echo guy” He said, an eyebrow raising.
“What about us?” Kan kept her voice flat, but her blushing cheeks betrayed her.
“Oh come on, there's obviously something going on”
“There isn't”
“Right, but I know you wish there was” He replied in a teasing voice.
“I'm not talking to you about this” Kan rolled her eyes affectionately, standing up and moving towards the door.
“I'll get it out of you one of these days” He grinned, poking her in the abdomen as she opened the door.
Stood just outside as the door zipped open, was Echo himself, his hand raised in a fist as if he was about to knock.
“Ah, speak of the devil” Spider grinned, earning an unimpressed look and sharp elbow to the ribs from Kan.
Echo looked minorly alarmed, but chose just to ignore it, “Sorry, I didn't realise you had compa-”
“Spider was just leaving” Kan interrupted him, hoping to get him to stay before he slunk off again.
Spider looked between Kan and Echo with a smirk, “I'll leave you guys to it then”
Kan rolled her eyes at the clone who seemed intent on embarrassing her, then turned to Echo with an adoring smile, “Do you want to come in?”
“If that's alright” He said slightly hesitantly.
“Of course it is” Kan stepped out of the way and he entered, sitting on the bed where Spider had been. He noted the warmth beneath him as he sat and really hoped it was just from one person having been in the spot. He immediately banished that thought from his head, but Kan was intrigued and concerned by his silence.
“Did you have something to say or…?”
“No I just came to see you” He spoke, and the atmosphere of the room was suddenly overwhelmingly awkward. Echo couldn't think of what to say. Conversation usually flowed naturally between the two of them, and if it didn't then the silences certainly weren't as awkward as this.
“Is everything okay?” Kan asked quietly, “You seemed a bit out of it when you got back”
“Yeah I'm fine” He said dismissively, and visibly cringed when it became even more awkward. “So… Spider was a good friend of yours?” He tried making conversation but he just felt that he sounded ridiculous.
“Uh, yeah. He was a Lieutenant in the 41st, I was closer to him than anyone else probably. I was only young when I joined, so he kinda looked after me a bit”
“Right” Echo nodded and looked down to his lap. He didn’t want to feel jealous, and he felt ridiculous for letting those kind of thoughts fester in his mind. He certainly wasn't going to say anything about it, and luckily Kan changed the subject.
“How's your blaster wound?” She sat beside him on the bed.
“Fine”
“Can I take a look?”
Echo looked up at her beside him. He hesitated for a moment, but ultimately conceded in a matter of seconds, “Sure”
Kan carefully lifted up his top and peeled back the bandage just a bit to get a look at it. Echo couldn't help but shiver at the gentle touches of her soft hands on his back.
“It's healing up nicely” She confirmed as she put the bandage back in its place and pulled down his top.
“Thanks to you” Echo said pointedly.
“I didn't do much” Kan chuckled, looking up into his eyes as he turned to face her. There was an undeniable sadness, almost a longing look in them.
“Echo what's the matter?” She whispered, her brows pinched in concern.
“It's nothing, don't worry about it” He gave her an ingenuine tight smile for the second time today, and it only made her frown.
“Echo, please,” She urged, her grip on his arm tightening just a bit.
“I'm okay, just tired” He shrugged, looking away so he wouldn't fall for the trap that was Kan’s deep green eyes.
“Do you want to stay here again?”
“No that's okay, you have it” He stood up and Kan’s hand fell from his arm.
Kan bit her lip, her confidence faltering despite her next words “What if I want you to stay here?”
Echo looked down at her but she wasn’t meeting his gaze. She had said it so quietly that he wasn’t entirely sure he had heard her correctly, “What was that?”
“Uh- You dont have to, it's okay, just-” She looked up at him finally and his expression almost made her melt. He was looking at her so adoringly, his eyes crinkling with a light smile.
“I can stay if you want me to”
Kan began rambling, “If you want, just because of your wounds and because you're tired and-”
“You don't need to explain M'aira, I'd like to stay” He said gently, taking a step towards her.
Kan smiled shyly, “Okay, I've got a few things to go over in command but I'll be back soon” She spoke, standing up. She found herself almost chest to chest with her favourite clone, and it was almost too much to handle.
“Alright, I'll see you in a bit then” Echo spoke quietly, biting back the grin that threatened to take over his face.
Kan nodded, letting her eyes drift to his lips for just a second before she immediately left the room.
Echo sighed as he watched her go. Sometimes it really felt like something was happening between them, but then he'd be reminded of how kind she was with everyone, how affectionate, and that put it in perspective.
He knew they had a bond, it was unquestionable at this point. They understood each other in a way that didn't entirely make sense to him, or at least, he couldn't figure out why it was Kan specifically that made him feel like this. It was just inherent in some way. He only hoped that he was that person for Kan.

When Kan returned almost two hours later, the lights were out and Echo was tucked up against the wall in her bunk, seemingly asleep, and shirtless. The covers pooled at his waist, exposing his toned back for her to see in all its glory. She could easily admit it was a sight she wouldn't mind seeing every night.
She quietly got changed into her sleep clothes, an oversized t-shirt and loose trousers, hoping not to wake him in the process. She slowly slid into the bed behind him, and he shifted, a small mumbled noise signifying him having woken up.
“You've been gone a long time” He said sleepily, making Kan smile at the frankly adorable sound of it.
“I had to show Spider to the barracks, we just chatted for a little while”
Echo came out with what sounded like an unsatisfied grunt, and Kan frowned slightly as she settled beside him.
“What is it?”
“Do you like him?” Echo mumbled, and Kan couldn't help but laugh.
“I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer” She shook her head slightly.
“Does that mean yes?”
“Echo” She said amusedly, placing a hand on his bare back and rubbing her thumb over his skin gently, “You do realise that you're the one sleeping in my bed tonight, right?”
She felt a small chuckle rumble through him, “Yes, I realise”
Kan chuckled as well, and then her mind brought forth how he had acted when him and Spider had arrived at the base, “Is that what you were upset about earlier?”
Echo hesitated for a moment, “Maybe”
Kan laughed heartily, and slid her hand around his abdomen and pulled herself into his back, slotting their bodies together, “You're ridiculous”
Echo placed his hand over Kan’s and intertwined his fingers with hers. He relished in the warmth of her embrace, and everything just felt right in the galaxy in that moment. There was no Empire, no need for rebellion, there was just him and Kan, pressed against each other and fitting together as if this was why they were made.
There was so much unsaid between them, and both of them knew it, but for right now, they'd just enjoy the moment. They didn't know what was to come, and unbeknownst to them, this was going to be as good as it got for a long time.

we never quite made it

description: after first meeting on kamino, you and tech seem to keep running into each other, without being able to fully indulge in each other's company. will you ever find the time to be able to tell each other of the feelings that have bloomed over the years?
warnings: not a happy ending!! death, torture (not in any great detail), blood & needles, some mentions of other medical stuff, tech brainrot I fear, don't wanna spoil it but... cx-2...
a/n: okay this was originally just gonna be a cute little fluffy thing and then I kinda went over board. it's a little more high-concept (which feels like a generous word for it) than my other oneshots but i'm pretty happy with how it turned out :) also anyone who writes tech fics regularly I salute you 🫡 it is truly not for the weak

22BBY, KAMINO
You waited patiently in the medical bay, lining up your various tools so none of them were out of place. You weren’t necessarily a neat freak, it was just something to occupy your hands. You were about to see your first patient since transferring from the hospital on Coruscant, to Kamino, in an effort to help the war effort.
The other medics around you weren’t new, and seemed a lot more relaxed, and sure of themselves. You had faith in your abilities as a medic, you had graduated from university into the job a number of years ago now, but somehow this felt like a lot more responsibility, looking after the men that fought for the Republic.
Your fingers were fidgeting at your sides when the door to the medical bay slid open, and a large group of clones were ushered inside by a Kaminoan. You were at the back of the room, so the clones from the front of the group were shown to the medics closest to them. As the group parted, you could see there were a group of clones in vastly different armour from their brothers, and your interest was certainly piqued.
You watched with intrigue as they got closer to you, and before you knew it, one of them was standing in front of you. You still felt nervous, but the timid look on the youthful face of this clone was enough to snap you into gear.
“Hello” You smiled at him sweetly, gesturing to the cot next to you, “Do you want to take a seat?”
The clone didn’t say anything, but obliged quickly. He was taller than many of the clones you worked on before, his hair a light auburn, and he wore goggles that were tinted a subtle yellow.
“What’s your name?” You asked politely.
“CT-9902, Ma’am”
The nervousness was evident in his voice, which you noted was different from the other clones, a more formal twinge and bite to the vowels.
“No need for all that Trooper, just my name is fine” You chuckled a little, tapping the name badge on your uniform, “and I asked for your name. What do your brothers call you?”
The clone looked to the name badge and then up to your eyes, “Tech”
“Well Tech, I understand that this is your last check-up before you graduate, is that right?”
“Uh, technically, we have already graduated. We are waiting to be deployed” He corrected you and you nodded.
”I understand” You smiled, “I’m just going to take some of your blood, if that’s okay”
“Of course it’s okay” He said matter-of-factly, “I wouldn’t expect anything less”
You had to suppress a smirk at his observation as you took the syringe from the tray, “It’s just what they ask us to say, bedside manner and all that”
“Ah” He replied, a blush tinging his ears pink, “My apologies”
It was hard not to find Tech adorable. He was so young and fresh-faced, somehow more so than the other recently graduated clones around the room. Perhaps it was the difference in facial structure, slightly pursed lips, or the big brown eyes that looked up at you though his goggles.
“No need” You waved off his apology, “It’s nice not to have to baby your patients really”
Tech nodded thoughtfully, and took of his left vambrace to allow you access to the correct vein, rolling up his sleeve. You raised an eyebrow at his actions.
“You had a lot of blood taken before?” You asked, and he looked at you puzzled.
“No” He replied simply, “Why?”
“I didn’t have to tell you where I was going to take it from” You gestured the syringe towards his now bare forearm.
“Ah, well” He looked down at himself and back up, “I am… a little knowledgeable about such things”
You smirked a little as you took his arm, keeping him talking while you placed the needle to his skin, “Knowledgeable huh? and why is that?”
He looked up at your face as you worked, wholly uninterested in the needle that was pressing into his arm, “I am interested in knowing about it”
You hummed slightly in reply, drawing the blood from the clone and placing the syringe down again.
“Just a few more things to check” You said, taking the small torch from your belt, “Would you mind taking off your goggles for just a moment?”
The clone didn’t hesitate, and pushed his goggles atop his head.
“Now, look straight ahead” You told him, and shined the light into his eye, checking to see if his pupils were dilating properly. At some point his eyes flicked up to yours, and you were surprised by the flurry of butterflies that filled your stomach. “Eyes ahead, Tech” You reminded him, and he righted himself straight away. You had to bite back your grin at his certainly interesting demeanour.
As you moved onto his other eye, you let your curiosity get the best of you, “If you don’t mind me asking, why are you and your brothers… a little different?”
“I do mind you asking actually” He said plainly, and you were unsure if you had actually upset him, if he was kidding, or if that was just how he spoke.
“Okay” You smiled graciously, choosing to just move on, “You can put your goggles back on now”
Tech watched you carefully as he pulled down and adjusted his goggles until they were comfortable again. With your pleasant smile, it seemed that you were just being sincere and inquisitive in asking about him and his brothers, and he felt a little silly for just brushing you off.
“We usually get seen by the Kaminoans” Tech noted, “Why are there civilian medics on Kamino now?”
“We volunteered” You shrugged with a small smile, “Could you lie down?”
Tech once again did as you said quickly, a little too quickly this time, hitting the back of his head on the cot that was not as comfortable as he had thought. You winced a little and his cheeks flushed immediately.
”Good thing I’m about to scan you” You joked, “Hopefully that didn’t do any damage”
Tech pointed his first finger up as he talked, “It is highly unlikely that I would sustain any dam-”
“I know Tech, I was just kidding” You interrupted, and he stuttered as he looked up at you standing over him with a gentle smile
“Right” He nodded, “Of course you do, my apologies”
”There’s no need to apologise” You smiled, pulling down the scanner over him “Stay still now”
You stepped back from the machine and picked up your datapad, reading over the information as the scanner picked it up. It scanned his identifying code in his wrist and your eyebrows raised at his profile. Defective, genetically enhanced intellect and cognitive functions.
“Is something wrong?” He questioned your reaction.
“No, you’re in perfect health in fact” You answered his question, pulling the machine away so he could sit up.
“What is the… matter, then?” He asked slightly hesitantly.
“The machine scanned your identifying code” You explained, unable to hold back your grin, “You sound like a very interesting individual indeed, Tech”
Tech blushed furiously, looking away and noting that his brothers were already finished with their examinations, huddled together watching him with the widest grins he had ever seen from them. He only blushed further upon seeing them, scowling and turning back to you. You just watched him with a look of vague amusement on your face.
“Well, you’re all good to go now” You informed him, and he stood quickly, accidently knocking the elbow of his armour against your hip.
He was mortified. “I am so very sorry” He spoke hurriedly, turning back towards you with wide eyes, gently holding onto your arm without even realising.
“It’s really alright” You replied with a chuckle, though it was a little strained.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you, that is the last thing I would mean to do” He continued, and you couldn’t help but find his reaction so effortlessly charming
“I like the way you speak, Tech” You smiled, genuine happiness just taking over your face.
Tech didn’t think it was possible for his face to heat up even more, but he had to clutch at the edge of his blacks and pull them away from his neck so it didn’t feel like he was over heating. He didn’t know what to say at all. He couldn’t think of the last time he had ever been complimented by someone, let alone someone as pretty as you. He willed himself to get a grip, knowing he was just giving in to his body in allowing those kind of thoughts to fester, and he cleared his throat.
“Well, it was a pleasure to meet you” He added your name with an emphasis, as if it was to help him remember it, “If I weren’t about to leave I would ask you to explain the functionality of this machine you’ve just used on me”
“Maybe another time?”
Tech nodded, “Another time”
“Goodbye Tech” You smiled at him warmly, “It was a pleasure to meet you too”
Tech nodded and turned to leave, making a beeline for his brothers, who welcomed him by teasing him mercilessly, the largest of the bunch ruffling his auburn curls. You watched them leave, and caught Tech looking back at you as he exited the room.
21BBY, KAMINO
“New orders”
Before you could realise, a datapad was being thrown at you. Luckily you got your hands around it before it dropped to the floor. You looked over the screen, then up at the other medic.
“We're not trained for that” You implored.
“The GAR is running low on medics, they asked for some of us to fill the roles for now” They replied with a shrug, “It's probably more interesting than being here anyway”
You could agree with that.
“What squad are you with?” The other medic asked, and you looked back down, tapping on your name.
“Clone Force 99” You informed them. The name rung a bell from somewhere…
“Never heard of them” The medic replied, “Guess you'll find out tomorrow”

Having stayed up late investigating the group of clones you were instructed to be joining, it was no wonder that you were bouncing on your toes with a beaming smile as their ship came hurtling into the hangar. You were impressed by their success rate, not falling short of perfect, but it was from realising exactly who was a part of this team that made you so eager.
You would be lying to say you hadn't thought of Tech a few times since first meeting him. With him being your first patient here on Kamino, it was hard not to compare the other clones to him, and while you had no issue with the other clones, you had not enjoyed your time with them as much as that first encounter.
The ship was set down on the ground, and soon the small batch of clones emerged from inside, looking particularly disinterested, and your smile faltered. They huddled together outside, talking amongst themselves, some of them leaning on the side of the ship.
You walked over slowly, feeling a little more hesitant than you had initially been. You couldn't see Tech, as he was behind his brothers, but you recognised the rest of them by their differing appearances.
You cleared your throat, gaining the attention of the clones, and offering them a small smile. They turned to look at you, apart from Tech who's face was buried in a datapad.
“Hello, I think I've been assigned to your squad” You spoke, and that's when Tech's head snapped up, his eyes meeting yours.
He looked a bit older than the last time you had seen him. His face seemed slimmer, his cheekbones slightly more hollowed out and defined, his jaw strong, but his widened eyes had the memorable sparkle in them all the same.
“We don't need you here” One of the others said, earning a elbow in the ribs as you looked up at him.
“Shut up Cross” The elbow-er hissed quietly at the elbow-ee, “Ignore him, it's nice to meet you…”
You told the man your name.
“Well, I'm Hunter” He introduced himself, and you gave him a nod of acknowledgement.
Crosshair rolled his eyes, “Why are we being made to have a medic?”
“I'm not sure” You shrugged, “I wasn't really told all too much about it”
Crosshair seemed almost pleased that you were just in the dark as them, then grunted, pushing his way past you and onto the ship.
Hunter huffed, noting your slightly offended expression, “Sorry about Crosshair, he's in a mood. We just weren't… expecting this, is all”
You chewed the inside of your cheek, “Me neither”
“Well anyway, let's get going” He walked up the ship's steps.
“I'm Wrecker” The large clone introduced himself with a warm smile, which you were inclined to return.
You held out your hand to him, and he took it with a crushing strength. “Nice to meet you… Wrecker” You managed to peep out despite the force of his grip.
Wrecker followed his commanding officer up the stairs afterwards, and you were about to follow after, but realised Tech was still stood firmly in his place. You looked back at him and he was still staring at you.
“You coming Tech?”
His eyes went a little wider.
“You know who I am?” He said, his voice holding a clear tone of surprise, though it was nowhere near as timid as it had been the last time you saw him.
Your cheeks flushed a little, embarrassed that he had clearly made more of an impression on you than you had on him.
“Oh, you don't remember meeting?” You asked, keeping your voice even.
“No, no, I remember” He confirmed, “I just didn't think you would remember me”
You gave him a puzzled look, a smile growing on your face, “Of course I remember you”
“Can you two wrap it up, we're leaving” Crosshair shouted from inside, and you chuckled slightly nervously, walking up the ramp.
Tech was still frozen in place for a moment. He hadn't been excited to be getting a medic, having ample training and knowledge of the subject himself, but now, he couldn't help but feel a little exhilarated that it was you that would be joining them.
The few times that the squad had been back to Kamino since graduation, Tech had found himself wandering down to the medical bay. He hadn't talked to you, he was far too nervous to do that, but he had watched you work through the little window in the door. You had almost caught him one time, and that's when he decided to stop doing it, realising how strange he was behaving.
He walked up the stairs of the Marauder, a little on edge, a little nervous, but a little more happy than he had been when they landed.
21BBY, MARAUDER
Tech was staring. At you, to be specific. Once again.
His brain worked at a klick a minute, and yet, whatever you had just said to him had him stumped. His mouth hung open a little, his eyes slightly narrowed and his brow furrowed deeply. He wasn't saying anything. For once, nothing was going on in his head. It was like his brain had frozen, unable to process any new thoughts. He was confused.
“Tech?” You said hesitantly, drawing him from his stupor.
“I'm sorry, I don't think I heard you correctly” He replied assuredly.
You hesitated a little before asking again, “I asked you if you think I should leave”
That's what he thought you'd said.
“I don’t understand your meaning” He dropped the tool from his hand and stood up, facing you and trying to read every movement you made.
You felt a little uneasy under his scrutiny, but continued nonetheless, “Like… leave the team”
Tech still couldn't understand.
“Why are you asking me this?” He asked, his brow furrowing even deeper.
“Well, I figured you would give me an honest answer” You shrugged. Tech was nothing if not upfront, and it was one of the many things you liked about him.
“No, I mean… why are you asking this at all?” He surveyed your reaction to his words, your throat constricting as you swallowed and subtly wiped you hands on your trousers.
“Uh… I suppose I don't feel that my presence is very necessary”
“I don't see how you could possibly think that” Tech replied, “You have a very useful skillset”
“Well, I know that Hunter doesn't exactly love having me around, and Crosshair even less so” You argued, “And my ‘useful skillset’ hardly gets used around here”
Tech didn't know what to say. There was something nagging at him from the depths of his consciousness, urging him to tell you to stay. He found you exceedingly interesting, and enjoyed hearing about your medical exploits from before joining their squad. He always asked under the guise of learning new information, but his brothers all understood, far more than him, that it wasn't just knowledge that kept him asking you questions.
At this point, you had been with the Bad Batch for a few months, and - as you were explaining to Tech - you had not felt very useful at all. They rarely got injured, but even when they did, they would mostly refuse your help. Particularly Hunter. Crosshair had not warmed to you at all, though Wrecker did seem to enjoy your company. Tech was kind, in his own way. He always listened to you attentively, and as both of you were reasonably light sleepers, you had often found yourselves staying up together between missions, talking about a great many things. He seemed interested to know about medical procedures, but expanding his knowledge was only making you more and more obsolete within the group.
“I'm sorry if we've made you feel unwelcome” He said, and your gaze softened a little.
“It's okay, I know none of you really wanted me here in the first place”
“That’s…” Tech tried to find the words, “I would not say that is entirely factual. Though if you would like to leave, I think you should”
You couldn’t help but feel a little disheartened by Tech’s words, but you did come to him for the truth after all, you couldn’t be mad now.
“Alright, I'll notify the medical team back on Kamino then”
You walked away from Tech, and his brain began working, screaming at him to ask you to stay. He pressed his lips into a hard line, trying to come up with something, anything that he could say to make you stay, but all of the possibilities floating around in his head were jumbled and he couldn’t make sense of anything. He shook his head, trying to focus himself, but you had already walked away, already set on leaving.

“Get away from me”
You were crouched over Crosshair’s crumpled form, who was bent over and holding the wound to his side in the co-pilot's chair of the Marauder.
“Crosshair, I'm only trying to help” You insisted, trying to tend to him.
“I don't need your kriffing help, back off” He hissed, snatching the medkit from you.
You sighed deeply, taking a step back, “You know this is the reason I'm here right? To help when things like this happen?”
“We don't need you!” He shouted, “We never wanted you here, and we certainly don't now”
“Crosshair, calm down” Hunter scolded lightly, and when you turned to him you could see the look on his face, where you knew he agreed with his brother but was holding his tongue.
“Well good for you, I'll be gone soon” You mumbled as you stormed away, your eyes welling up instinctively from someone raising their voice at you.
You felt entirely useless.
You became a medic because you wanted to help people, and you joined the GAR medic team because you wanted to help clones specifically, but here you were, surrounded by clones, and they didnt want your help. It was hard not to feel downcast about it.
You understood Crosshair's contempt to a certain level, but did he really have to be so mean?
Tech could hear your soft sobs from outside the door to the cargo hold. He knocked firmly, and heard you sniff before telling him to enter.
When he saw the rosy tint of your nose and cheeks and the tears running down them, he realised that he had no idea how to comfort you in this moment. He stared at you as you stared up at him, waiting for him to say something.
“I'm sorry” He said unsurely, and you gave him a sad smile.
“It's fine Tech”
“I don't really think it is ‘fine’. I am very unimpressed with the way my brothers have behaved towards you” He asserted.
Looking down at you, your knees tucked into your chest and biting into your bottom lip to stop it quivering, he was reminded that he really didn't want you to leave, and even further, he realised the true reason why. He finally mustered up the courage to ask you to stay.
“I know that you're not happy at the moment, being with this team. I… I wish it were different, I wish we could have made you more comfortable. I am sure that if you stayed for a little longer and I talked to my brothers that-”
“I've heard from Kamino already, they want me back” You said softly, cutting him off before he could even say it.
“Ah, I see” He paused, then turned away “I shall leave you to-”
“Tech”
He turned back to you, and you offered him a soft, genuine smile, “I appreciate it, thank you”
He just nodded to you and left, the nasty feeling of rejection gnawing at his brain.

As the Marauder touched down in the hangar on Kamino, there was the most unpleasant sensation stirring in your gut. This was the right choice, you didn't fit in here, and you wanted to actually make a difference. Despite knowing all this, you couldn't help but feel strange, and descending the ship’s stairs felt like regressing, going backwards instead of forwards.
You turned to look at the clones as you left. Each of them, apart from Crosshair, gave a nod and a goodbye and walked back inside. Aside from Tech, of course.
He followed you down the steps, and it was the look on his face that placed that feeling in your gut. It was the reluctancy to leave behind this man that you had grown so fond of over the past few months, this man who listened to you and made you feel wanted despite the rest of the squad's insistency to not.
It had only been a few months, but you realised that you had grown very close with the clone before you, and your heart ached. You realised the depth of the feelings you harboured for him, that it was something you had never felt for another.
“I'll miss you Tech, it's been nice getting to know you” You spoke honestly, realising this could be the last time you saw him.
Tech sighed almost imperceptibly, “I agree, I shall miss… learning about medical procedures from you”
You couldn't help but laugh, “Well next time you're on Kamino, swing by the medical bay and I'll be happy to answer your questions”
“Are you making fun of me?” Tech suddenly resembled the shy cadet that you had met the first time.
“No” You smiled, “I'd always be happy to talk to you”
Tech didn't know what the correct thing to say was, so he said nothing. He just stared at you, once again, his mind fighting for anything to say once more. There was nobody that could send his mind spiralling like you did, and it seemed that you didn't even try to.
You smiled despite his slightly awkward silence, and stepped forwards, raising to your toes to plant a soft kiss to his cheek, “Goodbye Tech”
Tech could feel his face burning, from the blush that overtook him, and the feeling of your lips searing into his skin, rendering him completely speechless. As you walked away, he brought a hand to his face where you had kissed him and traced the area with his finger lightly.
“Ugh, I'm going to throw up” Crosshair asserted from the doorway of the ship.
“Shhhh” Wrecker pushed him and watched Tech swoon over you with a large grin.
Tech paid them no mind. He just watched you leave, a mix of emotions overtaking him. A frown settled on his face as your figure disappeared into the facility, but the feel of your lips on his cheek brought a warm feeling to his chest.
19BBY, ANAXES
“Hey Baar'ur'ika!” You heard the unmistakable voice of Jesse call out to you as he jogged over to the medbay in the Anaxes base.
“He doesn't call me that you know” Kix asserted from beside you, and you chuckled.
“Do you want him to?” You asked earnestly, but with an amused twinkle in your eye.
“That's besides the point" He grumbled, earning another laugh from you.
“Me and Kix are being sent on a mission with the Captain” Jesse said as he came to a stop in front of you.
“We are?” Kix asked
Jesse nodded, “Some special squad is joining us apparently”
“Special?”
“Yeah, I'm not sure why though, you wanna come find out?” He grinned, gesturing his head towards the landing strip.
“Can't. I've got all these reports to sign off” You sighed, holding up your stack of flimsi.
“Alright, we'll see you later on then Baar'ur'ika” Jesse smiled, ruffling your hair.
You huffed, putting the lose strands of it back into place, “See you later”
You took up your stylus again, clicking it absentmindedly as you read over the reports.
You had been reassigned to the 501st only a few weeks after leaving clone force 99, and you fit in so much better here. It seemed that the clones of the 501st actually wanted to get along with you, and they always included you in their shenanigans, reluctantly on your end. You got along with all of them really well, but Kix and Jesse were the ones you were closest with. You worked most closely with Kix, so that was only natural, but Jesse was certainly the most friendly to you from the outset.
You came across a report with an error, and checked the next piece of flimsi, and the same error had been made. You then leafed through all of the pages and realised the error had been made on every single one of them, and you groaned loudly. It then occurred to you that maybe you were the one making the error, and so you grabbed the stack of pages, rushing out the door to try and grab Kix before he left for his mission.
Luckily when you got to the landing strip, him and Jesse were still standing there with the Captain. You rushed over to them, almost dropping a page on the way.
“Kix, can I just ask you about something” You spoke, and the huddle of clones turned to look at you.
“Ah Baar'ur'ika, you came to investigate after all” Jesse slung an arm around your shoulders with a grin.
“I didn't come to investigate, I-”
Your voice seemingly stopped working as you turned your head and locked eyes with the specific ones that had always managed to draw you in and leave you speechless. Those wonderful brown eyes that always widened when they met yours
“Tech” You couldn't hold back the smile that grew on your face.
Tech spoke your name, and Jesse stifled a laugh when he felt a shiver run up your back.
You were absolutely mesmerised by the man in front of you. It had been just over a year since you had seen him, and in that time it seemed that he had only got even more beautiful. Your heart felt as if it had been set alight, the emotions that accompanied seeing Tech returning as if you had only said goodbye to him yesterday.
“We're here too” Wrecker laughed, snapping your gaze away from the spectacled clone.
“Hey Wrecker” You grinned, and he gave you a wink in return.
“Hey Hunter, Crosshair” You addressed the last two clones.
“Hey, it's good to see you” Hunter replied, a small genuine smile directed towards you.
Crosshair didn't say anything, but you hadn't expected him to.
“You know these guys?” Jesse asked, squeezing your shoulder.
“Uh, yeah. I was with them for a little while” You replied, looking to the floor for a moment before realising why you were here. “Oh! Kix, I just need to ask about this”
Tech watched you talking with the other medic and flipping through the pieces of flimsi as everyone else fell back into their previous conversation. His eyes lingered on the arm slung around your shoulders, and the way you placed your own hand on the shoulder of the other clone. You were clearly comfortable around these clones, and Tech's jealousy fizzled away to a form of sadness as he realised that you were so much happier with these clones than you had been with them. With him.
You settled the matter with Kix, and turned towards Tech once more, stepping forward so you stood in front of him.
“How are you?” You asked, clasping your hands behind your back.
“I am well” Tech replied flatly, not giving away an inch of the emotions that swirled within him, “How about yourself?”
“I'm good yeah” You smiled, “I've been here for a few rotations”
“With the 501st?” Tech asked.
“Oh no, just on Anaxes, I've been with these guys since… well, a couple weeks after I left you”
Something about the sentence pulled at Tech's heart. These clones were so lucky. They had got to spend all of this time by your side, all this time that he had spent with you only as a memory in his head, your absence taunting him constantly.
“I- Uh- I am glad to see you are doing well, you seem… happier, than last I saw you” He observed, pulling a small laugh from you.
“Maybe a bit. I do miss having someone to rant to though” You smirked a little at him, and despite his heated cheeks, he returned the gesture.
“I don't know that I'd call it ‘ranting’, you were always very precise with your words, very… intentional” He complimented you in a way that only made sense to both of you.
You hummed in response, “Well how's this for intentional - I've missed you Tech”
Tech couldn't hold back the small contented sigh that escaped him.
“I have missed you too” He admitted, indulging in losing himself in your eyes, inspecting ever fleck of colour.
“Hey Tech! We've gotta get going” Hunter shouted over to him. Neither one if you had realised the others had moved away.
Tech scowled inwardly, turning his attention back to you, “I was… I should like to ask you about biopsy methods, I am unsure of safe practice”
“Maybe another time?” You asked hopefully.
He nodded, a small smile quirking the edges of his lips, “Another time”
In a bout of confidence and rising adrenaline, Tech found himself leaning down and pressing a short kiss to your cheek, as you had done to him last time. Your mouth hung open a little as he then immediately walked off and joined his brothers on the gunship, surprised that he had actually done such a thing.
“Bye Baar'ur'ika” Jesse called teasingly, and you were snapped from your daze.
“Bye di'kut” You called, rolling your eyes as you clutched your flimsi close to your chest.
Tech's eyes locked with yours as the doors to the gunship closed, and it made your chest ache. You could still feel the warmth of his breath, the gentle scratch of his stubble, the softness of his lips. It was all too much and not enough, and watching him leave hurt more than you thought it would.
18BBY, CORUSCANT
You sat at your makeshift desk, your head in your hand and flicking through your datapad to survey the latest news. Things certainly had become bleak since the rise of the Empire.
You heard your name called, and your head snapped up to meet the golden eyes of Senator Chuchi.
“Senator, what can I do for you?” You asked, sitting up straight.
“Please, it's Riyo, and it's more what I can do for you” She said with a small smirk lifting the edges of her lips.
“Oh” You said, your eyebrows drawing together in confusion, “What do you mean?”
“There's a new clone joining us, I believe you know him” She replied, her smirk growing.
You immediately stood from your seat, “Is it who I think it is?”
“Perhaps” The Senator shrugged coyly.
You couldn't hold back your grin, “Where is he?”
“Just in the hangar” She nodded in the direction.
“Thank you Sen- Riyo” You said quickly, rushing from behind your desk towards the hangar.
You had known that Echo was alive, but this was the first time you would actually be seeing him since before the mission to the citadel where he had been presumed dead, and boy was he a sight for sore eyes.
“Echo!” You exclaimed excitedly, drawing the attention of the clone as you ran towards him across the hangar.
The clone's eyes lit up as he took in the sight of you, and stepped forwards, taking you in a tight hug when you crashed into him.
“It's good to see you” He said with a smile as he pulled away.
“It's even better to see you” You grinned, “I was so upset I didn't get to see you after you were rescued”
“I heard” He smirked, looking over his shoulder at Rex.
You looked over at the blonde clone too, and saw that he was watching on with three other familiar clones.
“Woah” You couldn't stop yourself from saying, “I heard you were hanging around with this lot nowadays”
Once your eyes found Tech, you couldn't bring yourself to look away. He seemed to be hanging back a bit, his eyes once again a little wide behind his goggles.
“Hey!” Wrecker said excitedly, earning a small laugh from you.
“Hey Wrecker, hey Hunter” You smiled at the clones.
“Hi” The Sergeant smiled at you.
Wrecker then pushed Tech forwards, and you smirked a little as he glared at his larger brother.
“Hey Tech, how's it going?” You asked, and he brought his eyes back to you.
In a way he couldn't define, you seemed more mature than when he had last saw you. Perhaps it was the tiredness he saw in your eyes, or perhaps it was the few small scars that adorned your skin, clearly earned in battle. The thought of you sustaining injuries made his stomach lurch, so he tried not to think of it.
The way you were looking at him was so familiar. Your smile was kind and easy, gracing your features in a way that was so uniquely you. The light crinkle around your eyes and lips, the small glint in your eye, the way one side of your mouth was more contorted than the other. Tech was certainly glad to see you.
“Uh… it is going well” Tech replied unsurely after a moment, and you smirked a little bit at his answer.
It was intoxicating to be in Tech's presence once more. Everytime you were around him, things felt a little different, like there was something in the air that made everyone else look a bit more fuzzy as he was brought into focus. It didn't ever help that he was seemingly always getting so much more handsome every time you saw him.
His auburn locks were a little longer at the moment, no doubt because his biggest priority whilst on the run from the Empire was not his hair, but you weren't complaining. His hair framed his angelic face so perfectly, his features undeniably sharper and more mature, though his eyes were still as soft and gentle as they had always been, with a startling youthfulness that he couldn't seem to shake.
“It's good to see you guys, I'm glad to see you're not… with the Empire” You said a little hesitantly, then noticed the small blonde girl that was hiding behind Hunter.
He noticed you looking at her and introduced her to you.
“It's nice to meet you Omega” You smiled, kneeling down to get on her level.
“It's nice to meet you too, though I have already heard of you since Tech talks about you a lot” She said matter-of-factly.
“Is that right?” You smirked, looking up at Tech, whose cheeks were positively burning.
“I think I may have mentioned your existence a few times” He spoke flatly, but the edge of squeakiness gave him away.
The idea of Tech talking about you, or even just casually mentioning your existence in a passing comment, was enough to set your heart alight. In whatever manner it had truly been, he had at least always remembered you in some way, and that brought the smile to your face.
Hunter then said goodbye to you, and then to Echo, and retreated to the ship. Tech did the same, but instead walked towards you, stopping just in front of you. You had to crane your neck a little to look up at him in the pleasantly close quarters. Had he always been this tall?
“I-” He just looked at you for a while, and you smiled at him, waiting patiently for him to continue. “I have many questions to ask you” He finished.
You chuckled, “Maybe another time?”
Tech couldn't help but sigh, the familiar words making his heart ache, “Another time, yes”
“I think I owe you something now” You said with a small grin, trying to ease the light crease in his brow.
Tech watched your expression change cautiously, “Owe me? I don't think so”
“I mean, if you don't want it then-”
“Well, I must admit, I am curious now”
You laughed at his interjection, smiling at him fondly, “Alright, here you go then”
You placed a hand on his cheek and brought your lips to the other one, placing a lingering kiss to his cheekbone. Tech closed his eyes at the bittersweet feeling of it, and opened them to look back into yours. He placed his own hand to your cheek before the moment could end, and gently rubbed his thumb back and forth, his eyes searching yours. He took a quick glance over your shoulder and saw his brothers all watching him, waiting for him so they could leave, and he chewed the corner of his lip a little as he looked back to you.
“One of these days, I'll give you a proper kiss” He said quietly, making your heart skip a beat, “If you'd like that”
“I'd like that very much” You replied quickly, the grin on your face only growing.
Tech cracked his own small smile. “Another time then” He whispered, and looked over your features for a second longer, before placing a soft kiss to your forehead and walking away.
You watched him leave with an undeniable fondness swelling in your heart. You had felt a certain affection for Tech from the very beginning, and the thrill of the idea of him returning the feelings that you harboured for him brought forth the newfound nature of said feelings.
It went deeper than just liking him in a special way. This emotion you felt when you looked at him, or when you thought of him, was different. The way your heart stopped when he looked at you, the way your breath hitched when he spoke your name, you knew it was different. This was far more profound than a silly crush. The longevity of your affections had caused them to develop into something deeper, more serious.
Something like love.
17BBY, REBELLION BASE
“I need to talk to you”
You looked up from cleaning your workstation and saw Echo striding towards you, determination in his eyes that seemed otherwise tired and possibly even sad.
“What's the matter?” You asked, rushing over to meet him in the middle.
He opened his mouth, trying to find the words, but finding them hard to say, to admit even to himself.
“I… was just on a mission with the batch” He started.
“Oh how are they? How's Tech?” You ask, your mood lifted just a little.
Echo's heart ached, his eyebrows pinching together as his lips formed a hard line. His eyes began to well up slightly and he blinked a few times to rid himself of the tears.
“I'm so sorry” He whispered.
“Why are you sorry?” You asked cautiously.
“Tech… He-” Echo swallowed, “He didn't make it, he fell”
The words hit directly into your heart, and you could almost feel it collapse in on itself.
“Wh- What?” You whimpered out, almost hoping that you had heard him wrong, or that it was just a cruel joke of some kind.
“He… He sacrificed himself for the squad, so that they could live”
You couldn't say anything, couldn't breathe, couldn't move, couldn't think. The only thing you could do, was let the feeling of everything crashing down wash over you. It truly felt as if the hinges of your life, the certain something that seemingly held it up, had come loose.
You heard Echo say your name, but it was distant, like he was in another room. Your knees slowly gave in, and he grabbed you as you fell to the ground. He held you in his arms as you cried silently, your tears soaking through his clothes. He stroked your hair comfortingly, whispering assurances about how it was going to be fine, that everything would be alright.
“I never got to tell him, Echo” You choked out eventually, cutting through his smooth words.
“Tell him what?” He asked tenderly, knowing all too well what it was.
“That I… love him” You said, and a small sob finally escaped you.
Somehow it felt even harder to admit now that he was gone. Your love didn't feel as if it was in the past tense. It felt present, current, and that's why the sudden grief stung so much - the love was still lingering, and it didn't feel as if it was planning on leaving anytime soon. After all, it had managed to survive not seeing him for long periods of time, and to your broken heart, it felt the same.
17BBY, IMPERIAL PRISION
You surfaced slowly into consciousness, your eyes trying to open, but to no avail. You could feel your wrists caught in restraints, held above you on either side of your head. You tried to remember what had happened, but everything was fuzzy. You were… at the base. The Bad Batch were there, then… You were attacked? You were running with… Howzer? and then…
You couldn't recall anything past that point, but when your eyes finally opened you had a little idea of what could have happened. Sat opposite you with their arms crossed, was a man dressed head to toe in black armour, like the operative that Rex had captured before the attack on the base. He began talking, but it wasn't initially intelligible.
You shook your head to try and clear the brain fog a little, “Wha-”
“Tell me where the girl is” He demanded. The sound of his voice was so eerily familiar, but it was heavily modified by his helmet.
“Girl?” You questioned through your delirious state, turning your wrists in their restraints. Naturally, you knew who he was talking about, but you weren't going to give up that easily.
“Omega. I saw you talking with her, I know you know her and her brothers. Now, tell me, where would they have taken her?”
You pressed your mouth into a hard line, you could hardly deny it if he had seen you. “I won't talk”
He sighed, standing up and walking over so he stood in front of you, “I don't need to hurt you…” He said your name, and a chill ran up your spine. How could he know your name?
“That's not my name” You narrowed your eyes, looking into his visor.
“You cannot lie to me, Cyare” He spoke, and ran a hand over your cheek, “It would serve you well to tell the truth, it would be a shame to have to ruin this pretty face”
You looked over the man's appearance, for any semblance of individuality, but there was nothing.
“Who are you?” You asked.
“No one that concerns you anymore” The man chuckled, stepping back from you, “Now, tell me, what has become of the defective clones?”
You clenched your jaw in defiance, refusing to spill anything without even a little bit if incentive. You were clearly in some kind of imperial facility, but you weren't in any immediate danger, so you would stay stubborn for as long as you could.
The man spoke your name in a warning tone, his head tilted to the side, “I need you to tell me”
“I wont tell you anything” You spat back at him. He was irritatingly calm and collected, something you had not experienced from the Empire before.
He folded his hands behind his back, humming thoughtfully, “You will. Perhaps, another time”
With that, he turned and pressed the button on the door panel to leave.
You let your head hang down again, letting out a deep breath. If you weren't so tired you were sure that you'd be more panicked, but as your eyes closed and you let the exhaustion take over, you couldn't find it in yourself to be scared. Your body ached, and you needed it to rest if you wanted any chance of getting out of here.

The mysterious operative returned often over the next few days, pushing for answers but always leaving empty handed. He would always threaten violence, but had not touched you once since caressing your face in that first encounter.
He was now stood opposite you as he always was, making another empty threat about how you would be hurt if you didn't answer him.
You rolled your eyes, “Are you ever going to hold true to that promise?”
He stayed silent, and you laughed a little.
“Come on, I dare you, hurt me” You urged, jutting your chin out.
You were so tired of this, and he was obviously worn out by your defiance as well.
“I told you” He spoke quietly, “The last thing I would ever mean to do is hurt you”
Your heart stopped, and your eyes went wide as the familiar voice finally placed itself, hearing the same words that it had said all those years ago.
“It can't be, you-”
The man reached up and took off his helmet with a short hiss. He looked different, his face scarred and weary, his goggles nowhere to be seen, but it was undeniably him. The only thing that could have convinced you otherwise was the fact that his eyes didn't have the youthful sparkle they always seemed to in the past. Instead, they looked tired, completely worn down, and cold.
“Tech” You whispered, your heart beating impossibly fast in your chest.
He stepped closer, “I do not go by that name anymore”
On instinct, your eyes began to water, and a single tear ran down your cheek, “What are you doing here? You- You're with the Empire?”
He didn't reply, but he took off a glove and brought his hand to your face to wipe your tear away. You closed your eyes, and he let his hand remain on your cheek, rubbing your cheekbone lightly.
“I need you to tell me what I want to know” He spoke so softly now, and you opened your eyes and look up into his. They were still so inviting despite their unfamiliar coldness.
“Tech, why are you doing this?”
He didn't reply again, but brought his other hand to your cheek and held your face gently, his own just in front of yours, “Tell me”
“I can't” You choked out, brow furrowed as he ignored your questions.
“Please, Cyare. They will hurt you if you don't talk”
“Let them” You said firmly, tugging your face from his hands, “I won't betray your brothers”
Tech just watched you for a moment before opening his mouth again.
“So be it”
He put his helmet back on and left the room, leaving you alone with the revelation that the man you had been in love with was not only alive, but under the control of the Empire, the very thing you had dedicated your life to defeating.

The following day, when you lifted your head to see Tech enter your cell, he was now joined by an Imperial officer, and a floating droid that had a thin needle protruding from it. You understood all too well what this droid was, what it was used for, and you pulled at your restraints, a string of grunts escaping your lips.
“Resisting will do you no good” The Imperial officer chuckled, standing before you as the droid positioned itself to your left.
Tech couldn't watch. He kept his head up, appearing to be looking straight through you, but he had to close his eyes. Your screams were enough. You were resisting at every turn, and Tech just wished you would relent so that he wouldn't have to listen to the awful sounds that escaped you. The sounds that cut deep through his conditioning and hit his very soul, causing his chest to ache.
“Please, Tech. Make them stop” You cried hopelessly, and he squeezed his eyes closed even further, trying to block everything out.
To you, he looked cold, unmoving, and even after the Imperial had left with the droid as you had not let anything slip, he didn't budge at all.
After a few minutes of quiet, the only sound that was heard being your heavy breathing, he stepped forwards, taking off his helmet and letting it drop to the floor. He reached up and let you down from your restraints, catching your body as it fell down, limp with exhaustion. He knelt on the floor, his hand on the back of your head as it rested in his lap.
Your eyes fluttered open to see his face. He looked undeniably remorseful, and his eyes had a little amount of that special spark that they used to. You reached up and touched his face, causing his eyes to close with a shaky breath.
“What have they done to you Tech?” You whispered, your throat raw from shouting.
He didn't speak, but his heart clenched in his chest, every word you spoke bringing him further from the conditioning he had been subjected to to make him the way he was.
“How you could you let them do this to your brothers? To me? Do you not care about me at all?”
His eyes were now glassy when he opened them and looked down at you. He leant down and brought his forehead to yours, “I care for you more than you know”
Your tears were streaming down your face, “Then why are you doing this?”
Looking so deeply into your teary eyes, something in him finally snapped. He had a moment of intense clarity, fighting through his conditioning and realising the severity of his actions, of who he now was, who he had been forced to become.
He helped you stand before tying you back up in your restraints, much to your confusion.
You were sobbing now, your body and mind heavy with exhaustion, “Tech, please. Please stop this”
“I will come back for you, Cyare” He whispered, bringing his forehead back to yours with a hand on the back of your head, “I will get you out of here, I promise”
He stepped back, and was about to put his helmet back on, but he looked up to you once more.
“I am so very sorry”
You saw a tear slip from his eye, and he then placed his helmet on his head, leaving you alone once more.

Holding true to his promise, Tech returned that night. He unclipped your restraints, and you crumbled to your knees.
“Come on Cyar'ika, I'm going to get you out of here” He said gently, helping you to stand.
You tried to get a good footing, but your legs were too weak, and you fell into him. Without needing to be told, he picked you up, slinging an arm behind your back and the other under your knees. You rested your hands on his chest, looking up at his helmeted face and feeling unsure about his motivations. You were too tired to inquire though, so you just leaned your head against his shoulder and let him take you wherever he was going.
Tech carried you through the corridors of the prison, looking around corners and making sure to take the route where there would be the least guards. He constantly made sure you were still with him, as you kept slipping in and out of consciousness, so he'd place his fingers against your pulse point.
He slammed his hand into the door panel, and entered the elevator that would take you to the surface. The doors slid closed and he looked down at you, and behind his mask, he couldn't help but smile.
You looked so peaceful, so calm, so… beautiful.
For the first time, he let himself think of the future. He would get you out of here, and then he'd be free to think about his future. Maybe he'd re-join his brothers on Pabu, maybe… you would come with him. He hoped you could forgive him for the mistakes he'd made.
The doors opened, and Tech stepped out, pacing quickly across the landing platform to the nearest ship. Before he could make it there though, a bright light was shone on the pair of you from above.
“Trooper, put the prisoner down” A voice spoke through a loudspeaker, and he held you tightly in defiance.
He continued towards the transport, but was stopped in his place as blaster fire ripped through the air. His leg gave way as one of the shots grazed him, and he collapsed onto his knee, keeping you close to his chest so you wouldn’t hit the ground. He heard you let out a strangled gasp, and his heart sunk to his feet.
He pulled back from you, and sure enough, a blaster bolt had ripped straight into your chest.
He began panicking instantly, his breath quick and ragged, his heart stuttering and beating at an uneven pace. He let you rest in his lap, looking up to him through half lidded eyes that told him what he already knew to be true.
“No” He said assuredly, “You’re fine, you’re okay”
“Tech” You whispered.
“Everything will be fine” He bit into his bottom lip, completely in denial of what was happening.
“Tech” You said more firmly, though your voice was croaky, “It’s okay”
“It is not okay!” He exclaimed, tears spilling from his eyes that had quickly welled up.
He just watched you in disbelief, now unable to control the sobs that left his mouth. He had never cried so hard at anything in his life, but right now it felt as if everything was ending when it had only barely just begun.
“I'm so sorry Cyare, for everything” He whispered, his heart aching when you gave him a half-hearted smile.
“I know Tech, I know” You said breathlessly, the feeling of the blaster bolt to your heart ripping any strength from you.
Tech held your body close to him as the life slipped from you.
“It shouldn't have been like this, I should've protected you” He sobbed into your chest.
You pulled his head back and hooked your fingers under the edge of his helmet, taking it off his head so you could look into his eyes. You placed your hand on the side of his scarred cheek, and he leaned into it savouring your warm touch while he still could.
“It's okay Tech, I forgive you”
He didn't even think, he didn’t want to. Instead he just brought his lips to yours, the salty taste of his tears finding your tongue. The kiss was perfect, yet so bittersweet. It was something you had both waited years for, but now it would be one of the last moments you would ever share together. Tech kissed you so fervently, pouring every inch of his being into you, connecting his soul to yours, and in return you gave everything you had, even as it was slipping away.
He didn’t want it to end, and neither did you, but you knew your time was limited, and you had something you needed to say. You had thought that you had missed your chance before, and you’d be damned if you missed it now, in your final moments.
“Tech” You whispered, pulling away from him and looking into his glassy eyes, “I love you”
He let out a choked sob and brought his forehead to yours, “I love you too Cyar’ika, I always will”
His forehead rested against yours as you slipped away. He was whispering apologies, his eyes closed, unable to look into your eyes and see the light leave them. After a few moments, your hand fell from his face, and that's when he knew you were gone.
Tech held you close to him for a moment longer before his blood began boiling with rage. He laid your lifeless body against the ground, closing your eyes and making sure you could be comfortable even in death.
He stood, a flame burning inside of him that spread throughout his limbs, urging his fingers to find the pair of blasters that sat at his hip. He unholstered them just as blaster fire once more resumed. He dodged what he could, shooting the stormtroopers that closed in on him and depleting their numbers single-handedly, but his luck was eventually going to run out, and he knew that.
The first shot was to his shoulder, sending him stumbling backwards, but he fought through the searing pain and continued knocking down the soldiers. The second shot placed itself in his knee and he cried out as it gave way and he fell to his other knee, still fighting for his life. The third and fourth shots were the true nail in the coffin, both of them finding his chest and ripping him open as you had been. Even though he had armour, it was not enough to withstand two blaster bolts to the heart.
He fell forwards, his body sprawled on the floor unceremoniously. He lifted his head just a little to look towards your body. He grasped ahead of him and found purchase on your hand, still warm as if you were there comforting him through death as he had for you.
He laid down on his back as he saw his life flashing before his eyes, your hand clasped in his, and he mourned the life that could have been. Perhaps in another life, another time, things would have ended differently.

Echo awoke to an empty bed, in an empty room. The silence was stifling, and he let out a long breath to break the uncomfortable feeling.
In the two times he'd stayed with Kan, she had not remained in the bed when he had woken up, just leaving the bed lingering with her scent. He would give anything to wake up to the sight of her, the feel of her, alongside that divine scent, just once. He was sure that he could die a happy man then.
He eventually hauled himself from the bed, noting how little discomfort he got from the injury he had sustained to his back, and also how rested he felt. He quickly pulled on his clothes and exited the room, checking to make sure no one saw him leaving.
The idea of people knowing that he spent the night with Kan was both electrifying and terrifying. In some ways, he'd like for people to know that she was his, in some sense. Then again, she wasn't his, they were just friends. Good friends, best friends perhaps. Echo couldn't stop the nagging voice in the back of his head that told him that even best friends don't cuddle in the middle of the night, that they don't intertwine their bodies as if trying to mould them into one.
He also wouldn't presume that Kan would want anyone knowing he stayed with her, in fact, he assumed the opposite. He wouldn't embarrass her in such a way. So, he was careful in making sure nobody saw him leave, tiptoeing away quickly. He made his way down the hall and opened the door to the command room, finding Rex and Kan bent over the central holotable in deep discussion. They looked up as he entered, and Kan offered him a small smile.
“Echo, perfect timing” Rex said, standing up straight, “I need to talk to you about this mission”
“What about it?”
“I'm going to need you to lead the main objective” Rex informed him.
Echo drew his eyebrows together, “Why not you?”
“I'll be Kan's backup”
Echo looked between the two of them for a moment, his lips pressed in a hard line as he struggled to control his thoughts.
“Rex can I speak with you outside?”
Kan frowned deeply, and watched as the pair of them left, shutting the door behind them. What couldn't Echo say to her?
“Rex, you would lead better, send me as Kan's backup instead”
Rex sighed aggressively, suppressing an eye roll. He knew exactly where this comment was coming from. “Echo I need you to be objective about this. Kan is perfectly able of handling herself and you're one of the most capable soldiers here. She will be fine, I will be with her and I need you to lead this squad”
Echo ground his jaw with indignation. He knew Rex was right, but he felt protective over Kan, and he just wanted to know that she was safe at all times.
“Are you sure that-”
“Echo” Rex said firmly, giving him a knowing look, “I understand, okay? I know you want to keep her safe, but she signed up for this rebellion and she knows as well as you and I that there are certain risks involved”
“But-”
“She wants to do this Echo” Rex cut him off, “You know what she's like, she wants to help and we need her on this mission. I'm sorry, but this is final”
Echo sighed, “Fine”
Rex walked back into the command room, and Echo looked up and met Kan’s eyes from the doorway. She looked confused, maybe even a little hurt, and he felt awful for being the reason why. He offered her a small smile as he joined them in the room, but it clearly did little to ease her worries. As he came to rest beside her, and they continued finalising the mission plan, he hooked his pinky finger with hers, the silent reassurance that everything was fine.
Kan relaxed. She could ask him about it later.

Kan stepped off of the ship, taking in her surroundings. It was a forest of some sort, large trees shrouding her and the clones in darkness, not that there was much light left to begin with. It was a little wet underfoot, but there were also dry leaves scattered about as if they had just fallen from the trees, clueing her in to the season the planet was in. Echo was quick to be at her side, his eyes scanning around what could be seen in the darkness for any immediate threats.
“This way” Rex gestured, leading the group.
The clones all followed after him silently, leaves crunching beneath their feet. Kan noticed Echo sticking close to her side and bit the inside her of her cheek, confused thoughts swirling inside her head. She watched the way he would look at her, almost as of to make sure she was still there, and then survey the environment, looking ahead of them and to their feet.
“Echo, I can handle myself, you don't need to look out for me” Kan said, hoping her assessment of the situation was correct.
Echo sighed, looking to his own feet, “I know, I'm sorry”
“It's okay” Kan said quietly, smiling up at him and gripping his hand for just a second.
He gave her a small sheepish smile in return as his heart lurched at the feeling of her hand finding his in the darkness, and they continued on their journey. Kan then cleared her throat.
“Uh, what were you talking to Rex about yesterday?” She asked, her voice a little hesitant, as if holding back how much she really cared to know.
Echo gave her a puzzled look, “When?”
“When you came into the command room, you didn’t want to say something in front of me” Kan replied, then quickly turned the words over again in her head, “I mean- sorry, if you don’t want to share with me that’s okay, of course”
“It’s not that” Echo sighed, “I was just asking if I could go with you instead of Rex”
“Oh” Kan said quietly, “Why?”
Echo chuckled a little. To him, and everyone around him, his monstrous crush on Kan was so painfully obvious that it was just getting a little ridiculous that she hadn’t noticed, or at least said anything. He reckoned that she in fact hadn’t noticed, or perhaps she would not afford him the small touches that she did; the gentle grip of his hand, the intertwining of their pinkies when one of them was nervous, the short squeezing hugs when she was excited. And no less, letting him stay with her in her bunk. He figured that Kan had absolutely no clue. Somehow that all made sense to him.
“I just want to keep you safe M’aira” He said lowly, casting a glance her way.
Kan’s heart skipped a beat.
“Oh, thank you” She spoke unsurely, not entirely certain of how to respond.
Echo huffed a small laugh, “You’re welcome, I guess”
Kan couldn’t stop the broad grin that spread across her face. It was getting harder to act like Echo didn’t affect her at all. Everything he said and did just made her so giddy, and she had to admit that she truly enjoyed it. It was fun to exist in this space, where she felt like she was on the cusp of admitting her feelings for him, with some kind of palpable but pleasant tension building. It was equally terrifying and electrifying.
It was almost seven klicks of walking before they reached the perimeter of the Imperial prison that was buried within the valley below. Rex brought them to a stop, and everyone gathered around him.
“Alright, I don't need to tell you all how dangerous this mission is” Rex began, “You understand perfectly well. It is unlikely that there won't he any push back from Imperial forces, so be careful, and keep them occupied while Kan and I do our part. We'll be going in and out this way, and you're that way. Good luck, radio silence from this point on”
As Kan turned away, Echo grabbed her arm instinctively, making her frown as she looked back at him.
“Be safe, M'aira” He urged quietly, his grip on her arm tightening just a little to drive his point home.
Kan's gaze softened, and she took a step towards him, a smile gracing her features as she looked up into his worry-filled eyes.
“You too, Echo” She said softly.
Echo opened his mouth to say something more, but nothing came out. Instead, he dropped his helmet to the ground and wrapped his arms around her, bringing her into a tight hug.
Kan was surprised, to say the least. She had hugged Echo a number of times, but he had never been the one to initiate it before. She snaked her hands around his waist and held him equally as tight, as he buried his face in her shoulder.
“I mean it, be careful” He reiterated in a murmur.
“I will. Don't get shot again alright?” Kan replied.
Echo chuckled a little bit, “I won't promise this time, but I'll try not to”
Kan tutted, “I guess that's the most I can ask for”
Echo lifted his head from her shoulder a little, his mouth tilting towards her ear so only she could hear, “You could ask for anything and I'd give it to you M'aira, just know that”
He then pressed a gentle kiss to her temple and stepped back, giving her a quick smile before grabbing his helmet from the ground and walking away.
Kan was positively dumbfounded. Her mouth hung open as she watched Echo join his squad. Her heart swelled with affection and a desperate longing that blinded her for a moment. The other clones hadn't been watching the exchange, but Rex on the other hand, was smirking when Kan turned towards him.
“Shut up” She rolled her eyes.
“I didn’t say anything” He held his hands up in surrender.
Kan grumbled a few unintelligible words as they made their way towards the way in they would be taking, and Rex held his tongue, electing to wait until after the mission was finished to tease her.

Getting in was easy. Even retrieving clones from their cells had very little pushback. But it was the getting them out that was the daunting part.
Echo signalled that it was safe to move, and the group of prisoners followed after him, hugging the walls to stay as hidden as possible. They ran into a some guards along the way to the ship, but a few stun blasts made short work of that problem. Though, Echo began to get nervous as he heard the crackle of someone trying to comm him in his ear.
“Ech- - We’re g- - -eave, don- -eed-”
It was Rex, but with the limited information, Echo couldn’t tell whether or not he was in trouble. He didn’t sound especially distressed, but Echo’s heart leapt to his throat nevertheless.
“Rex? You’re not coming in clear. What’s the matter?”
He didn’t get any sort of reply, not even static, which just worried him even more. Once he had got the clone prisoners settled in the ship, which had been brought to the landing platform on his command, he grabbed Howzer to let his worries be known.
“I think something might have gone wrong on Rex and Kan’s end” He informed him, and Howzer’s eyes widened.
“What kind of something? Why?” He asked hurriedly.
“I don’t know, Rex was trying to contact me and it was breaking up, and now he’s not responding at all”
“Kriff” Howzer ran a hand through his hair, “What should we do?”
Echo looked towards Gregor and realised he had been listening in, “Can you hold the fort here while we go back in?”
“I’m on it” Gregor gave him a small salute and that was all Echo needed to turn on his heel and bound back towards the base.
Echo and Howzer ran through the prison, towards the area that they knew Kan and Rex to be in from the mission briefing. They ran past the unconscious bodies of the guards which they had incapacitated previously, and came upon conscious ones to which they had the same solution. As they got close Echo tried contacting Rex again.
“Rex? Rex, come i-”
“Ah! Perfect, just who I’m looking for” A cold, sneering voice interrupted Echo as he rounded the corner, “And you came to me, how opportune”
Echo whipped out his blaster but the stormtroopers surrounding the Imperial officer did the same. Echo could see that the officer had hold of Rex’s comm, but Rex was nowhere to be seen.
“Echo? Was it?” The Imperial rocked forwards onto the balls of his feet, hands clasped behind his back, “I hope you know I have troops on the way to retrieve my prisoners”
Echo scrunched up his face, refusing to give any of his own commentary on the matter.
“Don’t you care at all? And I thought clones were supposed to be fiercely loyal”
“You don’t know anything about us” Howzer piped up, his nose scrunching in disgust to match Echo’s.
“Do I not?” The man said impassively, his head tilted to the side.
Howzer growled from beside Echo with frustration, “Give us back our brother”
“Hm, perhaps” The officer seemed to be considering it for a moment, his finger tapping at his chin. “Or perhaps not” He shrugged and then called out, “Bring him out”
A pair of stormtroopers dragged in Rex from a side door, hanging limp as they held him under his arms and throwing him onto the ground. He knelt before his brothers, his head hung and wrists bound together. Echo was so sure that Rex would never have the fight beaten out of him, but here he was, beaten and broken, defeated on the floor. Echo could only thank the stars that somehow Kan had avoided this confrontation, and the imperial noticed him let out a small breath.
“Oh, and how could I forget” The officer grinned sadistically, “Bring out the other one too”
To Echo’s horror, a stormtrooper then dragged in Kan, holding her by the hair while her hands were bound in front of her. She was resisting, but had a cloth tied around her mouth, stopping her cries from being coherent. She was thrown onto the floor next to Rex, her knees hitting the ground with a sickening thud.
“Now, troopers, I'll make you a deal” The officer continued, “I'll let you take one of them, a show of good will, and I'll keep the other, if you just tell me which one you want”
Echo couldn't speak, he couldn't breathe. It felt as if the wind had been kicked out of him as he took in the sight of the two people he cared for most, kneeling before him in such a state.
The imperial continued, “Of course, I don’t expect you or any of your pathetic brothers to actually make it off this planet, but all the same, I’ll be kind enough to let you hope”
Echo knew the man was stalling for time, and he knew that he was letting it happen, but he couldn’t find anything to say, even to spew insults at him.
“Come on, or I'll have to choose for you” The imperial officer said with a mock impatience.
Echo looked to Kan, and she shook her head slowly at him. He couldn't in good conscience choose either of them, but the idea of leaving Kan in the hands of these monsters turned his stomach.
“Alright too late” The imperial huffed after a minute, and pushed Rex forwards, “Have him, I'm keeping the girl”
Howzer rushed to receive Rex, taking his arm around his shoulders and bringing him to stand beside Echo, who had since drawn his blaster on the officer once more, his body practically shaking with rage.
“Ah, ah, I don’t think so” The Imperial spoke calmly, a small smirk appearing as the five stormtroopers in the room all turned their blasters to him.
“Let her go” Echo ordered, but the Imperial just laughed.
“Oh I don't think so” He said, tipping Kan’s chin up to look at her face as he stood just behind her, “I couldn't let such a pretty little thing slip from my grasp”
Kan instinctively pulled away but the Imperial grabbed her neck, forcing her to keep still. A small whimper sounded in her throat and Echo's heart lurched at the sound.
“Get your hands off her” Echo seethed, striding forwards.
“Stay put” The Imperial barked, pulling Kan’s head back by her hair and pointing a blaster to her head, “Or she gets it”
Kan was trying to say something from behind her gag, and now that he had drawn closer, echo could see the tears streaming down her face. His heart reached out for her, hoping beyond hope that it could wrap around her and seize her from this despicable man’s grasp.
“What is it sweetie?” The imperial said in an overly-sweetened tone, loosening the cloth a bit to take it out of her mouth.
“Echo, just get out of here. I'll be fine” She breathed out. Her voice sounded strained, her throat raw and aching.
“I'm not leaving you-”
“Echo! Please. I'll be okay, please go” Kan spoke so desperately, but Echo’s desperation to save her was just as strong. He stepped forwards, but the Imperial officer pushed the barrel of the blaster into her temple. Kan squeezed her eyes shut, her head pounding with how tight the Imperial was holding her hair.
“Rex, please get him out of here” She begged.
Rex gave her a reluctant look, but when her eyes opened and focused on him with an unyielding and stern stare, it made him muster up what little strength he could and he grabbed Echo’s arm tightly, pulling him back. Howzer also threw an arm around Echo’s middle and dragged him backwards towards the way out, knowing it wasn’t going to be an easy task.
“No!” Echo was screaming at the top of his lungs, fighting to get away from his brothers, but it was no use. He could only watch in anguish as Kan's defeated form grew further and further from him, out of his grasp and into the Empire's.
Echo continued to protest in desperate cries, not even paying attention to the blaster fire that ripped through the air when they made it to the landing platform. When Gregor’s eyes locked onto his brothers dragging one of their own back to the ship, he threw his blaster to one of the others and sprinted for the controls, closing the hatch once they were aboard and leaving with immediacy.
“No! We have to go back!” Echo argued with Rex, his face stern but his cracking voice betraying his desperation.
“Echo, we will. We’ll get her back, okay?” Rex tried to soothe his worries but it was no use.
“We can’t leave her there! She won't-”
”Echo!” Rex snapped at him, grabbing his arms, “Kan is strong, you know that. She will be fine, and we will go back for her as soon as possible”
Echo’s chest heaved, tired and out of breath from screaming. He wordlessly slumped onto the floor, taking his head in his hands and letting Rex rest a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“You don’t understand, she- she was tortured before, if they hurt her-”
“They’re not going to touch her Echo, we’re going back for her” Gregor crouched by his brother and gripped his forearm tightly in support, “We won’t give them the chance”
Echo wanted to believe him, but the sinking feeling in his stomach told him that it wasn’t going to be that easy.

Echo was sat on a crate at the back of the command room, his head in his hands. He was carefully controlling his breathing, something he found himself doing far too often now. He could hear someone speaking, but it wasn’t until they placed a firm hand on his shoulder that he realised they were speaking to him. His head shot up to see Rex looking down at him worriedly.
“Sorry, what did you say?” He asked, blinking a few times.
“I asked if you’d eaten today” Rex spoke quietly in the somewhat crowded room.
“Yeah, yeah” Echo waved him off, rolling his eyes as he looked away, “I ate earlier”
Rex knew he was lying, but he decided to hold his tongue for now.
“We’re going to discuss the mission now” He told him, “Will you be there?”
“Of course I will” Echo snapped, his expression almost offended.
“Alright” Rex replied, patting his shoulder as he moved away, “Come on then”
Echo lifted himself from the crate, and joined the clones that had gathered in a circle around the central holotable, which included Rex, Gregor, Howzer, Teddy, Oscar and Spider. Anyone and everyone who cared to see Kan returned to them.
“Okay” Rex began with a deep sigh, “We know that she’s no longer in the prison, Echo, Gregor and I made sure of that. Now, we have reason to believe that… this is where she may have been transferred”
He plugged a datastick into the table and an image appeared, a structure.
“I received this schematic from Senator Organa. He is under the impression that this is where the Empire have been sending people that have outwardly rebelled against them”
“Does he know that she’s there?” Howzer asked.
“No, but it’s a best guess” Rex replied, “It’s a very secure facility though. It’s on Corellia so it’s more guarded than one on an unknown planet like the last place. It will be difficult to get into, and you can see here that it’s comprised of two disconnected parts, so if you go in one and she’s in the other, you can’t get through without going out and back in the other one”
“How will we know which one she’s in?” Teddy asked.
“We won’t” Rex sighed, “We’re going to have to just go in one and see if we can find any information and hope we chose the right one, or it’ll be a hell of a lot harder”
“What if-” Spider began, then glanced at Echo before continuing, “What if it goes wrong, and she gets hurt because of us?”
Echo scoffed. She. Not a single one of them could even bring themselves to utter her name.
“There’s not a single mission that is without risk, that’s why we’re in this position in the first place” Echo pointed out, “Now I don’t know about you, but I’d rather try and fail than not try at all. If there’s even a single chance that she’s in there then I’m not even considering not going”
A silence settled over the group, and Echo wanted to scoff again. They all knew how on edge he was, and he knew that they were all waiting for him to break. Kan had been gone for over a month now, and Echo was at his wits end. He had elected to stay in Kan’s bed, but he couldn’t sleep, his mind never failing to remind him of the presence that could be beside him.
Rex took a deep breath before he spoke, “We’re going, that part isn’t up for debate, it’s how we’re going to do it that we need to figure out”
As the clones begun going over the schematics, finding any potential weak points and plotting their way through the prison, Echo couldn’t help but let his mind wander to Kan. It all felt so impersonal, the discussion of such a plan, without much thought, or reference, of the person at the centre of it. Echo was worried about the state they might find Kan in if they did find her at all. She was at the mercy of the Empire, and there was no way she had escaped being harmed in some way.
In a few hours, Rex had cobbled together a plan for infiltrating the prison, and he disbanded the rest of the clones to prepare for the mission. Echo stayed leaning against the table and looking into the building schematic despondently. Rex watched him carefully for a moment before speaking.
“Echo, are you sure you’re up for this?”
Echo’s head snapped up, “What? Yes. Why?”
“Well” Rex sighed, gesturing to him, “You don’t seem to be all here, and it’s not hard to guess why”
Echo scowled, “Oh and I suppose I should leave it up to you right? Because that went so well last time”
Rex crossed his arms, unafraid to call out his brother, “And what the kriff is that supposed to mean?”
“You know what it means” Echo gritted his teeth together, “You promised me she’d be safe, that you’d protect her, and in case you forgot, you failed”
“I’m going to give you the chance to take that back” Rex spoke lowly.
“It’s the truth” Echo claimed, enunciating each syllable with fierce precision.
“Do you really think I don’t know that?” Rex practically growled, “Do you think that I don’t care at all? I know it’s my fault, that I shouldn’t have let it happen, but I did. And now, I’m doing everything in my power to get her back”
Echo was quiet. He glared at his brother and left the room in a huff, striding down the hall towards the safety of Kan’s office. Once the door was shut and locked, Echo stood still and stared down at his feet, letting his eyes well up. A tear escaped and fell onto his boot, the soft leather absorbing it quickly.
Echo didn’t like to cry. It made him feel weak. Though more than that, it made it even harder to stop thinking about what was going on. He was reluctant to feel hopeful about Kan being in the prison, but he mustered up all of the strength within him nonetheless for the eventuality that she could be. He wiped the tears from his face and sniffed quickly, drawing himself to his full height and blowing out a breath.
He turned on his heel, and opened the door back up, making his way towards the landing platform.

Echo kept to himself on the journey there, not that anyone else was feeling particularly chatty. He was determined, and although weary of it, he was becoming more and more hopeful that they would find Kan. Now as they navigated the streets of Corellia, his mind was singularly focused on the mission.
There was a large shipyard located beside the prison, and as they approached, Echo could see new prisoners being escorted inside a large door. That wasn’t their first goal though, they first were going to break into the records room next to it.
The clones slipped behind a patrol of stormtroopers, flattening themselves against the wall in the darkness. A group of stormtroopers that had obviously just finished their shift were still lingering, chatting amongst themselves. Echo tuned into their conversation when he heard something he’d rather he hadn't.
“Did you get a look at that new Mirialan woman?” One of them said to the other, his grin evident through his voice.
”She’s not exactly new, but yeah, I did” Another of them spoke, the same tone filtering their voice.
Teddy placed a hand on Echo’s shoulder. He knew that the conversation was probably driving him up the wall, but he tried to remind him that it wouldn’t serve them well to get into an all-out firefight right now. Echo nodded to him appreciatively, his action grounding him and focusing him back on the mission.
Teddy had been the most supportive while Kan had been gone. He knew that ignoring how worked up Echo was about it wouldn’t do any good, so he tried to comfort him in ways that he could. They weren’t particularly close prior, but Echo appreciated the sentiment nonetheless.
Rex gestured to go around them, and the clones moved out, slipping quietly around crates and ships until they found themselves opposite the records room, and the front door. It was really a pretty inconvenient place for it to be, for them. There didn’t seem to be any guards at the door, but they knew that there was most likely people inside. Rex told the rest of them to wait where they were, and he and echo darted towards the door.
Echo disengaged his cybernetic to twist back the hand attachment, and inserted his scomp into the port, quickly slicing through their encryption to open the door. To their surprise, there was nobody inside. Rex gestured for the rest of them to join them while echo scomped into the port on the inside of the room. He searched all around their system, which included prisoner details for both sides of the facility, but he couldn’t find Kan. There was no record that she had ever been here. He searched over the cells again, and once more, to make sure, but he couldn’t find her. He let out an exasperated huff.
“What is it Echo?” Teddy asked, his eyes darting between Echo and the door.
“She’s not listed under any of the occupied cells, but there’s a block of unnamed cells in the… left side of the prison” He relayed the information.
“Can you find out where?” Howzer questioned.
“One second” Echo continued searching, looking for their whereabouts. “Ok got it” He pulled his scomp from the port, “Let’s go”

Kan didn’t know how long she had been locked in this small cell. The days blurred together, and she was unsure where one ended and the next began. There was no real way to tell anyway, she couldn’t see outside to know the time of day, and the Empire didn’t exactly feed her regular meals.
Her body felt exceedingly weak, and her mind was beginning to feel the same. The officers at the prison had tried to get information out of her, about whatever organisation she was a part of, but she wouldn’t yield. She was tired. Tired of resisting, tired of feeling weak, and tired of thinking about how no one had come to get her.
She knew it wasn’t that easy, there was no way for them to know where she was, but it didn’t stop her thinking that perhaps they weren’t even looking for her. For all her resisting, not giving the Empire any of the information that they wanted, she wondered if the clones had any of the same loyalty to her. She had felt it before, but with her time spent locked away, it was harder to know.
Her thoughts often dwelled on Echo specifically. Why had he not come for her yet? She tried to rationalise, but she was being driven mad by the feeling of being in perpetuity; the sleepless nights, or maybe days, the passing of time not making sense anymore. Sometimes it felt like it wasn’t passing at all, like she was just going to be forever in limbo.
Kan heard a commotion outside in the corridor, and lifted her head to peer through the ray shielded arch. It sounded like a fight had broken out, and she frowned, but her heartrate picked up a little at the same time. Had someone finally come for her? She shifted and placed her feet on the floor, her hands resting against the edge of the bench she sat on. The noise of the fight drew closer, and she waited with bated breath as they approached her cell.
A guard was knocked to the floor, laid out on the floor outside the ray shield, and Kan’s heart leapt to her throat, though the next moment it plummeted straight down to her feet. Another guard threw themself down on top of the other and started punching the other, another two appearing to try and pull him off.
Kan sighed deeply, folding in on herself and holding her knees to her chest. She didn’t want to cry, but it was hard to stop herself.
They hadn’t come for her. Perhaps they never would.

She wasn’t there. Kan was still gone.
Echo couldn’t cope. He had kept quiet the entire journey back, but when they got back to base he had immediately taken himself back to the safety of Kan’s office. He didn’t know what to do with himself. He couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that Kan was most likely alone and afraid.
He tried not to blame himself, he really did, but it was getting harder not to. He didn’t really blame Rex, even if he had lashed out at him for it. Before he had truly dwelled on that fact, his feet were carrying him to the command room. When he opened the door, he found Rex in the position he had been before the mission, defeated and sat on a crate at the back of the room.
Echo called his name in a quiet voice, and Rex’s head snapped up.
“What?” He asked, rubbing a hand over his face. He was clearly tired.
Echo sat beside him, taking a deep breath before speaking, “I’m sorry”
“For what?”
“It wasn’t your fault” Echo said earnestly, turning to look at his brother, “No one is to blame but them Empire”
Rex stayed quiet.
“I shouldn’t have said what I did, I was just…” Echo couldn’t find the word.
”Upset? Frustrated? Angry?” Rex asked with a slight twinge of amusement.
Echo huffed a laugh, “Yeah”
The pair were quiet for a moment. There wasn’t anything either of them could say that would make the other feel better.
“I’m sorry too” Rex sighed.
“For what?” Echo frowned.
“That sh-” Rex stopped himself, “That Kan was taken, that she’s not here. I know how much you care for her, I can’t even imagine how you must be feeling”
Echo looked to his twitching hands. It made him slightly uncomfortable to have that observation made about him, but he knew that Rex meant well, that he was only trying to comfort him or just have a conversation, something they hadn’t really taken part in in weeks.
“What if we can’t find her?” Echo looked back up at Rex, who blew out a long breath at his broken expression.
“We’ll find her Echo, we will” Rex assured him.
“But how can we? There’s no way to know where she is, and what if they-” Echo gulped, “What if they hurt her, like- What if they… kill he-”
“No. Don’t think like that. We’re going to find her”
“But- Even so, I- We might never see her again” Echo could feel tears brimming in his eyes, “I- I never got to tell her-”
Rex placed his arm around him and pulled him into his side, “I know. I know brother”

Echo’s day so far had been particularly monotonous. Every day had been for a while now.
He had skipped breakfast after another sleepless night, instead opting to stay in Kan’s office and monitor Imperial long range comms on the off chance he heard anything about rebels or prisons or anything else that they never talked about. After hours of tuning in and not finding anything, he dragged himself to the mess, and grabbed some caf before continuing on with his previous activity.
This had been his daily routine for a few weeks. He couldn’t bring himself to do much else.
When he walked past the command room on the way back to Kan’s office, he heard people speaking in hushed voices. He turned his ear to the door with a frown, but failed to hear what they were whispering about. He opened the door, and the two people hunched over the holotable shut their mouths when they saw him, looking very caught as they switched it off.
“What’s going on?” He asked, looking between Rex and Spider as they scrambled for something to say.
“Nothing” Rex said quickly, standing up straight, “What brings you here?”
Echo gave them a sceptical look, “I heard you two… whispering”
“Ah, right” Rex rubbed his neck awkwardly, not adding any further comments.
Spider gave him a look, “I think you should just tell him Rex”
“Tell me what?” Echo frowned, stepping into the room.
Rex sighed deeply, “Please don’t be angry when I tell you this, I just wanted to make sure our intel was correct before I got your hopes up”
Echo waited patiently for him to continue, trying to quell the irritation that was already bubbling up. Rex looked to Spider and nodded for him to leave the room. When the door closed behind him, Echo was growing impatient.
“What is it?”
Rex took a deep breath before speaking, “We know where Kan is”
A range of emotions washed over Echo. He was relieved, yes, also angry like Rex had predicted, but his worry was still taking over. Knowing where Kan was didn’t make her safe.
“How?” Echo asked.
“Senator Chuchi did some digging, one of the descriptions of the prisoners matched her perfectly, so we’re pretty certain”
“How long have you known?”
“Since… two rotations ago”
“And you didn’t tell me?” Echo crossed his arms, but Rex jumped in before it could escalate.
“Look, the plan was that Spider was going to go and get her, and she’d be back here before you knew anything about it. Like I said, I don’t want to get your ho-”
“Send me instead” Echo interrupted him, his voice firm as if it was a command.
“Echo” Rex said in a sigh, rubbing his hand over his face, “Spider was an ARF in the 41st elite corps, he’s got this”
“And I was an ARC in the 501st, I’m not seeing the relevance”
“It’s not about that. You know what I mean” Rex gave Echo a pointed look.
“Rex, please” Echo begged, his tone a little desperate, “Please send me instead”
“Echo, we… we’re pretty sure it’s her, but you need to be prepared for it not to be”
“I know, I know. I just-” He looked to his feet, “Please, I- I need to do this”
Rex didn’t want to give in, he really didn’t, but the pleading, broken hearted man in front of him was a hard one to disappoint, even when he wasn’t in this state.
“Fine” Rex conceded, “But I’m trusting you to be objective about this. I don’t want you ending up captured too”
Echo nodded, “Of course”
“Alright” Rex turned the holotable back on, revealing a map, “This is the place”

Echo drew his ship out of hyperspace, the blue streaks pulling back to reveal a planet that made it seem he hadn’t even pulled the lever. The surface was painted by swirling blues, punctuated by large white clouds, and for a moment it reminded him of Pabu.
A stern voice crackled through the comms, interrupting his thoughts and demanding clearance codes for landing. Echo obliged, transmitting the codes that Senator Chuchi had acquired. He waited with bated breath as they verified the authenticity of them, and his body relaxed when they let him know he was cleared for landing.
He brought his ship into the upper atmosphere, going over the plan in his head, trying to remain calm. He’d done things like this before, it would be fine. He was prepared for Kan not to be here, but that didn’t mean that he wouldn’t scour the entire building until he was sure she wasn’t.
His ship touched down on the landing platform and he took a deep breath, opening up the door and adjusting the stormtrooper armour that he was wearing. He stepped out of the ship, his eyes scanning the platform for anyone taking note of him, of which there were only a few mechanics glancing over as they worked on other ships.
Echo walked slowly, calculated, trying not to look suspicious by rushing about. He followed the map that he'd burned into his brain, heading for the detention block of the base. He nodded to the troopers that were stood just down the hall from the door he needed to access. Ordinarily, an access card would be needed, but Echo was able to bypass that necessity by way of his scomp.
He kept glancing over his shoulder, making sure the stormtroopers were still faced away as he cracked through the door's encryption. The door zipped open, and Echo pulled out his scomp, quickly darting through the door and putting his cybernetic arm back into place.
The cells that lined the hall were only ray shielded, so he could see through and into them. He peered into every cell as he passed, his eyes narrowing in on the figures inside to identify the one he was looking for. He made it though a few corridors before he came across a cell that made him stop in his tracks.
The person inside was curled up on the bench that lined the back of the cell, their knees pressed to their chest and their head resting against the wall. Echo almost didn't recognise her. Her frame was a lot smaller than the last time he'd seen her, her skin clinging to her bones in a way that made Echo’s heart lurch.
Once he had recognised her, he immediately slammed his fist into the control panel to lift the ray shields, ripping off his helmet as he rushed inside.
“M'aira”
Echo fell to his knees in front of Kan’s rigid form, taking her face in his hands. Her eyes fluttered, but didn’t open fully, as if she couldn’t, or didn’t have the strength to.
“Who- What…?” She muttered, an edge of fear and uncertainty.
“It's Echo” He spoke gently, not wanting to frighten her. Her eyes opened a little more at that.
“Echo” She whispered, “You’re here”. She sounded relieved.
“I'm here” Echo confirmed, leaning his forehead against hers, enveloping her in his presence, his safety. “I'm going to get you out of here Cyar'ika. Can you stand?”
As he guided Kan's feet to the floor, Echo noticed a small trickle of dried blood down the side of her neck, and bruising around the tiny wound from which the blood had spilled. Echo decided to put it to the back of his mind, focusing on getting Kan out of here before he dwelled on the state she was in.
Kan’s knees crumbled beneath her as she tried to stand up, and she slumped back onto the bench.
“I’m sorry, I can’t-”
“It’s okay” Echo assured, a hand on her shoulder, “Can I pick you up?”
Kan chuckled at her own joke before she told it in a weak voice, “I don’t know, can you?”
Echo shook his head with a small disbelieving laugh escaping his lips, “Still got a sense of humour I see”
Kan shrugged a little, her eyes fluttering closed at the same time. Echo took that as his sign that it was time to go, and hooked an arm under her knees and across her back, lifting her far easier than he would have liked. She had certainly lost a lot of muscle mass, which explained why she was so weak. Once again, Echo tried not to think on it for now.
Echo promptly made it out of the cell, making his way back through the halls that he had used to find Kan. They didn't make it too far before being intercepted, but Echo wasn't going to let up until Kan was safe again. An Imperial officer was walking along the same corridor as them, and looked up from their datapad as they were about to pass by.
“What is going on?” The officer asked, utterly perplexed by seeing a stormtrooper carrying a barely conscious woman.
“Prisoner transfer, ma'am” Echo responded, his voice unwavering
The imperial frowned and gave Kan a look of what seemed to be disgust, “Why are you carrying her?”
“She doesn’t have the strength to walk, Ma'am” Echo answered her, though he was aware that this situation was certain to become more of an issue soon enough.
The officer gave him a sceptical look, “Show me”
Echo’s arms instinctively tightened a little, staring down at the Imperial through the visor of the stolen helmet.
“That's an order, trooper” She said sternly, her brow furrowing further.
“Just do it Echo” Kan whispered into his shoulder.
He grimaced under his helmet, nevertheless obliging and bending down to place Kan on the ground. She was wobbly on her feet and gripped onto Echo's arm for some stability, ending up just leaning on him to stay upright. Echo did his best not to touch her in a way that would give them away, only letting her use his body to hold herself up.
“Hm” The Imperial hummed, “Okay, pick her up. I shall escort you to your shuttle.
“That's really not necessary Ma'am” Echo countered, immediately taking Kan back in his arms.
“I'll decide what's necessary” The officer snapped back, and Echo couldn't help but wince and roll his eyes at once. He'd figure it out, he knew he would.
He followed the woman out onto the landing platform, then directed her towards his ship. She didn't say anything at first, and neither did Echo, in his mind it was all going according to plan. He was climbing the first steps into the ship when she finally spoke.
“What kind of ship is this?”
He didn't bother answering, instead pushing her back onto the platform and rushing aboard to close the door.
He placed Kan down on the bunk at the back, as gently as he could in a rush. He immediately went about getting the ship in the air, ignoring the blasterfire that was now being directed towards the ship.
He made his getaway, pushing the lever to send them to hyperspace and sitting back, abundantly relieved. He let out a long breath, rubbing his hands over his face to bring himself back to the new reality that Kan was safe. He looked back at her, his heart breaking just a little to see her sat up and looking down to her lap with a despondent expression.
She looked so different, a shell of her old, ever-cheerful self, and it was almost too much for Echo to cope with. He approached her slowly, making himself known but not trying to startle her too much, then knelt in front of her. Her eyes flicked up to his, and they looked empty, such a stark contrast to the eagerness, the life, he usually saw swimming in them.
“Oh Cyar'ika” He brought his hand up and gently stroked her face with his thumb, “What did they do to you?”
Kan didn’t respond, and looked down to her fiddling hands, feeling a little embarrassed of the state she was in.
“M'aira?”
She then turned and laid down in the bunk, facing away from him and staring out of the back window. Echo sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed and bringing his hand to her arm to gently rub it back and forth, reminding her that he was there, that she was safe. He could feel her relaxing more and more under his touch, and when it seemed that she had reached the point of sleeping, he took his hand away.
Kan reached out and grabbed his hand, “Don't leave”
Echo’s heart ached at how small she sounded.
“I’m not” He reassured her, squeezing her hand gently before taking it away again.
Echo stood up and went about noiselessly removing his armour, his eyes never leaving Kan as he stacked the pieces on the floor next to the bed. Once he was stripped down to his blacks, he laid down behind her. He could see how rigid she was, and continued to stroke her arm.
“You're safe, Cyar'ika, you can relax” He murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
He once again felt her body ease under his hand, though this time she turned to look at him. Her eyes searched his for a moment, some unknown emotion fighting its way out to reach for him.
“Thank you for coming to get me”
Echo gave her a small smile as he brushed some hair from her face, “Of course M'aira, I'm just sorry it took so long”
Kan let her mouth form a small smile to mirror Echo's expression, just as a violent shiver wracked her body.
“Are you cold?” Echo asked immediately.
Kan nodded.
“Come here” Echo gave no room for argument, and pulled her body into his.
Kan relaxed immediately, the feel of Echo's body pressed against hers confirming that she was safe, that he was really here.
“You're always so warm Echo” She muttered into his chest, which brought a fond smile to his face.
He held her even closer, burying his face in her neck and taking in the scent that he had been missing for months. Kan did the same thing, taking in his presence in every way she could, gripping at his clothing with one hand, the other placed over his chest to ground herself to his heartbeat.
“I've missed you so much”
Echo's heart ached at the cracking of her voice, “I've missed you too Cyar'ika”
Kan lifted her head to look up at him again, “You keep saying that, Cyar'ika, it's Mando'a isn't it?”
“Oh” Echo blushed a little at getting caught, having been only half conscious of himself using it in the first place, “Yeah, it is”
“What does it mean?” Kan asked.
Echo cleared his throat, “It's like… sweetheart, or darling”
Kan let out a contented hum, her head coming to rest against his chest again. “I like it” She asserted, turning it over in her mouth again, “Hm. Sounds better when you say it”
Echo's chest filled with warmth, his heart feeling full, almost bursting at the seems as Kan fell asleep in his arms. This time, he'd make sure that's where she'd stay.

𝐀/𝐍: Whew! Ok, I'm taking a small break right now- I have one more request to do, and ofc as soon as I can I'll finish it, but I don't want to burn myself out or anything.
I'm just taking a quick writing rehab right now. Nonetheless, the banter was so fun to do, and I hope you all like it!
If I do write another chapter for the week, it'll probably be for What A Dish, What A Doll!

. . .
The chill of February’s frosted breath graced the glass panes of the largest building in the Vee’s district, an imposing force that not-so-subtly hinted at how far their influence and power expanded across the Sinner’s Circle of Hell, as it stood right in the heart of the Pride Ring for all to flock to. No matter how depraved, sadistic, or perverted you were, the territory of the Vees surely had something in store for your insatiable appetite to feast upon.
And since the first twenty-four hours of the infamously romantic month, chaos had erupted within the offices of the Vees. Other than Halloween, it was the greatest vice of Vox’s hellish existence, filling his calendar to the brim with meetings, product improvement, managing holiday events and sales, and not to mention Velvet’s stupid “Love Potion” gimmick-
For Christ’s sake, the goddamn holiday started with a ‘V’! Their brand of perfection practically relied on that lovey-dovey nonsense.
For the past week, the only thing filling up Vox’s schedule and keeping him from you was showcasing shitty rom coms with horribly conceived plots, Velvet rushing around like a mini-hurricane and destroying everything in her wake for her latest fashion show, and Valentino?
Oh, don’t even get Vox fucking started.
And now, after all of that overwhelming bullshit that kept him from warming your bed for the past few days, Vox desperately wanted – no, needed to escape and spend quality time with his darling. With you.
He had the usual Valentine’s Day blueprint in mind: eat ice cream and binge-watch your favorite TV-shows, while you flustered the hell out of him with your affections and make hot chocolate, and then fall asleep in each other’s arms by the fire.
Mundane, cheesy shit like that was the highlight of his days after another exhausting workday keeping it all roped together and navigating Velvet and Valentino's nonsense.
Their facade was of modern sophistication, perfection at its very finest that was produced for only those who could afford it, and it was all piled into Vox’s lap to regulate the chaotic, unpredictable behavior of his fellow Overlords, and keep their volatile nature in check.
But the continuous hardship that came with his stressful job would fade with the wintry wind as soon as he stepped off the elevator and into your shared penthouse, and like a patch of sunlight to snow, you’d melt away all his worries with a smile and a rub of his head as you took care of him for the night.
Almost there...
The television demon groaned as he crossed the threshold over to your apartments, seeing no need to keep up his perfectly aligned posture.
And, like a mercy served by Gods, Vox was met with the heavenly sight of you standing in your fluffy, midnight blue bathrobe that you’d received on your birthday, courtesy of Val. Vox would’ve personally burned it to high hell, but you adored the design, and he couldn’t resist you when you pleaded with him.
“Vox...” crossing your arms at the doorway, his light, his spark, his reason to maintain everything about his own reputation stood with a stern furrow in your brow as you strode over to him.
“Don’t tell me you’ve been overworking yourself again, love,” you grumbled as you took off his bowtie and removed his coat, and you smoothed out the front of his striped vest as Vox stumbled for an answer.
“I-” *sigh* “I’m not pushing myself that much. You know how the job is, especially around this time,” seeing your face fall and your lips tighten into a straight line, Vox took your hand, squeezing it within his gloved palms as his sharp teeth pulled into a small half-smile.
“But coming home to you makes it all worth it,” a tender hand dancing with waves of tingling sparks cupped your cheek, and with a heavy sigh, you looked to him with concern and affection swirling within your tender gaze.
“Yeah, yeah. All I’m saying is those two bumbling excuses of Overlords should at least give you a couple of days off,” you scowled softly, but your frown melted into a flustered pout as Vox kissed it away, and a soft buzz of electricity lingered against your lips.
“Now, now, enough of that, my dear. We still have the whole night to ourselves, don’t we?” You giggled, a long-awaited melody to his ears as Vox spun you around to press your back against his chest. How beautifully the sound replaced Velvet's usual grating, shrill voice that penetrated his ears. How agreeable you were, that you didn't fight him like Valentino, that you truly cared about him and his well-being.
Sometimes, you'd even force his workaholic ass to return to your apartment and get him ready for bed, practically hauling your grumbling, overworked hubby into bed, and forcing him to sleep in the next morning.
And it was the sappy, lovesick moments like these always reminded Vox that he'd never find anyone else like you.
All the more reason to keep you tightly within his grasp...
“Yeah, I guess, so. You dork,” you flicked the very center of your husband’s face, and he blinked a few times in surprise before chuckling and shaking his head.
“Oh, yeah? And what does that make you for loving me~?” Vox swayed against you gently, his inner fans suddenly warming himself up more than usual as he poorly attempted to conceal his light blush at having you so close.
Your laughter chimed through the air like the first sunbeams breaking through stormy gray clouds upon the aftermath of a thunderstorm.
“Well, I suppose that makes me your lover,” you simpered right back at him, turning your head slightly so you could stand on your tiptoes and kiss him.
It felt almost like a dream when you were in Vox’s arms like this. Simply existing with each other, standing above the Pride Ring as if you ruled the entire Sinner’s Circle. Untouchable, ambitious, and madly in love.
As if on cue, the sound of a gentle, reflective saxophone poured from the speakers installed within the penthouse as the lights dimmed, and you felt yourself drifting away as you swayed with your husband.
The soft buzz of electricity bounced against your figure as Vox stared down at you, his dead, automated heart pounding erratically as his hands slid from yours down to your waist, digging into the fabric of your robe with sharpened claws.
“Vox...?”
“Yes, my dear?”
With a deep breath, you lilted your voice as you spoke to him, in hopes that seeming more placating and docile could shake Vox’s stance upon his insistence to work himself to the bone. No more would you allow yourself to stand hopelessly to the side while you watched your husband work himself into such a distressed, sleep-deprived state.
“I’m putting my foot down. You’re not going back to that horrible place for the next week, at least.” Vox stiffened at your tone of finality.
“Excuse me?” He chuckled as if you were joking with him, but your resolute glare told him otherwise. “Check your phone.”
With a hesitant glance towards his pocket, Vox slowly pulled out his phone, only to find that, in fact, every work-related app had been temporarily blocked from the device.
Raising an eyebrow, he looked back at you and tapped your nose with a haughty smirk. “Nice try, but it’s going to take more than that for me to fall for your wiles, my dear,”
When you only grinned up at him with no hint of malice nor any trace of exasperation tugging at your usual, beautiful smile, his triumphant grin fell. “Why are you looking at me like that? What...”
A slow realization turned in Vox's mind as he recollected the last few days, when you were poking and prodding at him and his programming for “no apparent reason,” and he wrote it off as curiosity born from your boredom while being locked up at the penthouse apartment.
But by fuck, he was really regretting indulging you right now, for once.
With a surge of panic, Vox immediately blue-screened, as he mentally checked for any of his work-related tabs and files, only to find them completely, and suspiciously empty.
No notes. No texts. No documents.
Nothing.
You... You fucking hacked into his mainframe!?
His interface returned to normal to find you slumped against him, only perking up when you saw your husband had returned from his frenzied search of the crime that had been committed; the heinous act of keeping Vox from working.
And here the culprit was standing, swooning and relaxing in his hold, nuzzling against him as if she wasn’t to blame for his entire workspace vanishing off the face of the Earth for the next seven days.
“Well...?”
“...How long have you been planning this?” Vox was absolutely aghast. He knew you could be impulsive, perhaps even irrational, compared to your cool, collected husband, but this was...
You grinned triumphantly as you tapped his nose right back.
“I just thought you could use a few days off, spending some time in your wife's company for Valentine's Day~..."
“But when did you- No, how the hell-?”
“It seems that you’ve fallen victim to my wiles yet again,”
“Oho, you sneaky little-!” Vox practically tackled you into a hug as he discharged a small bout of electricity, tickling you with an electrifying warmth, just by holding you against him.
“C’mon, I’ve got another surprise for you,” with a soft giggle and a gentle tug of his antenna, you pulled Vox from the floor as his free hand shot up to his hat with a small, bashful frown.
“I told you to stop that!” He outwardly groaned, but you could hear the flustered electrical buzz that Vox emitted whenever you did something to him that he really liked.
“You know I don’t like it,” he muttered, but as always, you saw right through him.
“And we both know that’s one of the biggest lies you’ve ever told me,” you grinned back at him cheekily as you pulled him into the living area, where you had spent most of your afternoon setting up when Vox was occupied with his work.
In the living room, you had set up a small, cozy gaming area. It then hit Vox just how long you had been setting this up, waiting for him to drop his guard and into your scheming hands.
That little criminal...
Two controllers, one for you, and one for Vox, sat upon a pile of fluffy blankets. A few pillows draped in silk cloth surrounded the area on the couch, and before it upon the coffee table, there sat a freshly made bowl of popcorn, and various other chocolate candies and snacks.
“Hm... Seems like someone’s been itching for a rematch.” A challenge glinted in his sensors, and you leaned into him with an equally blazing ire.
"You wanna bet...?"
. . .
“GODDAMN FUCKING BLUE SHELL! I’LL DESTROY YOU, YOU SPIKED SON OF A BITCH!”
“HA-HA! GUESS WHO’S IN THE LEAD, NOW!?”
Your fingers pressed the controller furiously as the TV blared in front of you, and as you crossed the finish line, you let out a whoop of victory, nearly falling out of Vox’s lap in your bout of triumph.
“Yes!” “No!! Fuck!”
You and Vox shouted simultaneously, making you burst into a fit of triumphant laughter as he groaned and slumped defeatedly behind you.
“Are you serious!? That’s the fifth time in a row!” Vox nearly crushed his controller in his vice grip as he threw a slew of curses at the TV.
The two of you had been playing Mario Kart for the past hour, blissfully unaware of how your gaming match had whisked the both of you into a heated competition of bumper cars and tallying points for each round someone won, and the winner would be picking the movie you watched.
You stuck your tongue out at him with a victorious beam. “It seems the Nintendo wants us to watch the Kissing Booth tonight,” you giggled madly when Vox’s face scrunched up in disgust.
“Yeah, babe, there is no way I’m watching that.”
“Aw, come on, I won fair and square!" you leaned into your husband, who sighed with exasperation but softened at the sight of your pout.
“Please...? I promise we’ll watch whatever you want tomorrow!”
“It’s my first day off the job, and you want to watch the goddamn Kissing Booth!?”
"Pretty please, Sparks?" Vox’s aura buzzed softly at the nickname, and he narrowed his eyes down at you as you begged him with your puppy eyes.
“Playing dirty, huh? Fine. Let’s watch your dumbass movie,” Vox pouted with crossed arms as he slumped into the couch in defeat and his antenna buzzed softly in annoyance. It sparked abruptly when you clapped excitedly and pulled him by his collar to lay a tender kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you! I promise, you’ll love it,” you grinned mischievously and grabbed the remote.
Vox, in fact, did not love it. In fact, it was so bad that you both started watching it ironically and threw jabs at it occasionally.
“So, who do you think she should pick? Her psycho-controlling best friend, or the pretty boy with anger issues~,” You leaned your head against his shoulder as you shoveled a handful of popcorn into your mouth, your eyes glued to the screen.
Vox sighed and rubbed his forehead, equally as invested as you were despite your shared frustration with the film.
“Honestly? She should dump both of them and run for the goddamn hills.”
You snorted. “Yeah? Well, I would’ve chosen her boyfriend. He gets better over the next couple of movies.” Vox raised an eyebrow at you. “Seriously?”
Popping a few M&Ms into your mouth, you nodded at him. “Yeah, I’m serious! He gets some serious character development,” you mutter sarcastically, before licking your lips with a shit-eating grin. “He seems really cold and angry on the outside, but he’s not so bad once you get to know him.”
Nudging his shoulder, you glance not-so-subtly up at him, and Vox took the hint, tickling your sides softly with a smirk.
“And I’m a dork?”
“Yeah, and you’re a contagious one, too!” Your hands grabbed at his arms as he crushed you into a hug, pulling you even closer as he rested his head upon yours.
“Well, then I guess that makes two of us, doesn’t it my dear~?”
“No! Stop! Please, I can't breathe!” You attempted to flail around dramatically, but within Vox's vice grip, that was next to impossible.
“Ah-ah-ah! I’m afraid you’re trapped within my wiles, darling!”
“Curse you! How dare you use my own spells against me!” You giggled as he continued his bombardment of tickles and small, feathered kissing against your nape and the small back of your neck.
Soon, your laughter died down and you both fell silent as you finished the rest of the movie.
While you slowly began to drift off into sleep in Vox's arms, spent from the day of preparing your apartment for your husband's arrival, he looked down at you with a tender half-smile.
I can't believe someone like you would even look at someone like me...
"Hey, babe-?" He whispered out into the dark, before huffing out a chuckle when he realized you were still asleep.
With a soft smile, and a tender patter of his heart, Vox scooped you up and whisked you away to your bedroom, where he silently dresses you up in a pair of pajamas, and tucked you into bed.
Ever so gently, Vox laid a few of the blankets over your form, dragging them and the silk pillows back from the couch to make his little sleeping beauty ever the more comfortable.
He looked upon you as you dozed the minutes away, blissfully oblivious to the war that raged inside of him.
While Vox was impressed that you had managed to somehow hack into his mainframe and alter his actual mental programming, it really would take more than basic understanding – plus, you pulled it off unguarded. Now, of course, this spawned a new problem for him, but he’d deal with it in due time. Besides, it’d give him a proper excuse to slack off a little bit, with you.
God, what was he thinking? The old Vox would’ve seen such a desire to goof around with some girl while the other two Vees went around wreaking havoc and partaking in whatever idiocy without Vox to keep them in check.
But you weren’t just ‘some girl’ to him.
And frankly, those two clowns could go fuck themselves.
A part of Vox wanted to remain in your bed, for your sake, but there was work to be done, and Velvet no doubt was positively livid at the fact that he wasn’t answering any of her calls.
So, with a newfound confidence in his advances, your husband bent over you, softly pinching your chin within his finely sharpened claws, and laying a few tender kisses trailing from your lips down to your nape.
I wish I could do this to you when you’re awake... But that smile, fuck, I can’t even form sentences without fumbling when you look at me like all you want is to give me the world.
You groaned and turned over within the sheets, scooching towards him with a soft furrow in your brow.
Vox kissed it away, before reluctantly pulling away from your side, standing at the door with a small, yearning smile.
“Til morning, my dear.”

How jjk men react if they find out y/n self harms:

Gojo:
I believe he saw it coming but couldn't stop you because he wasn't there to stop you. He's very aware of you and your feelings and feels bad about the fact that he has to work so much and can't be there for you as much as he wants. It was one of those nights where your depression and anxiety reached your limits, and Gojo was already away for two weeks. You didn't text him as much as the days before, and even though he had another week of work, he cut it short and came home as soon as you didn't pick up the phone. He found you in the bathroom, sitting in front of the tub crying your heart out. As soon as he heard your whimper he rushed through the door and almost broke the door handle as he slides over to you on his knees, taking away the scissors/blade you used carefully and throw it into the tub, before he pulled you into his arms. "Shh, don't cry. It's okay... I'm here" he hushed while he almost crushed you in his embrace. His heart was racing, and you could hear his heavy breath while he was rocking you both back and forth. "Do you wanna talk about it?" he would ask carefully. And whatever you decide in this moment, he would make sure to take care of you as you need. Whatever that is. Questions could be asked later when you're more stable. He wants to make sure that you're feeling safe first and help you clean the blood and patch you up without saying anything because he doesn't want to trigger you. After that, he would make sure, that you don't feel to bad about what you did and tell you something like it's battle scars against yourself and everytime you feel like that again you should look at them and try to win this battle this time and not hurt yourself. And it helped. He really wants to make sure that you feel strong and safe. You would also joke about it when you're more stable a curse could never leave scars on you and that you're the strongest women and curses should watch out that you don't give them those scars instead.
Choso:
When he first saw your scars, he thought you had them from a battle. But after he found out you did this to yourself, he couldn't believe how you could do this. After you explained to him why you do that and that it's kind of a stress relief for you, he looked at you deadpan and pulled up his sleeve. "Do what you need to but not on your arm. Use mine. I can heal it, and I don't want you to feel any pain. If you really need to cut flesh, cut mine." And he was so serious about it, that everytime he sees you, he searched your whole body up for new scars and if he would ever find one, he would cut himself on the exact same place and refuse to heal it so you match scars. He really can't stand seeing you in pain. He adores you too much for his own good.
Megumi:
This guy probably wouldn't really know how to react and maybe even got mad at first since he doesn't understand why you do this to yourself. But similar to Choso, I feel like he would use some kind of emotional manipulation to stop you from doing it. He wouldn't hurt himself though but he's so scared that you feel this bad that even if he doesn't like texting that much he would make sure to shoot you enough texts throughout the day so that you don't ever feel lonely or tempted enough to do it again. Be prepared for lots of cuddle sessions. He's not good with words, but his actions will show.
Yuji:
This guy saw your scars multiple times and never knew what they were from. But lately you got new ones and your stories don't really match up anymore so he searched up 'visible scars on the wrist' and was so shocked to find out about self-harm, that he immediately visited you and as soon as you opened the door he hugged you and started to cry. "Please don't hurt yourself again! Talk to me when you feel lonely or depressed! We can search for a therapist or something! Or do you want to try some meds? Or we could have more fun dates! Or just stay in bed all day! Whatever you want but please, don't hurt yourself!" He would feel so helpless and guilty, even though it's not his fault. He loves you so much that it hurts him to know what you're going through, and he makes sure to be the best boyfriend possible so that you don't have to ever self-harm again. And every time before going to sleep, he would ask you about your day and how you feel. He literally became your diary and would try his hardest to help you with whatever you're going through at the moment.
Sukuna:
Would look at your scars deadpan and call you pathetic. "If something or someone bothers you, why would you hurt yourself? That's stupid. Just change it. Seek for justice. And if you can't handle shit yourself, ask me. Don't do stupid shit like that, silly human." He would be annoyed and maybe even don't really know why it upset him so much. He doesn't know why he's so interested in you in the first place, but something about you makes him not want to kill you immediately. Even though you're just a pathetic human. If he ever sees you with a new scar, be prepared that he will find out what made you do this and handle it himself. No questions asked. Be careful with names. He would even kill your friends and family if they're the reason for your struggle. "Come here, women. 'Need to check for new scars. Don't keep anything secret from me. I'll find out. Whoever fucks with you, fucks with me. Understood?" And yes, he literally searches up your whole body for new scars and even if their just from your cat or something, you'll have to make sure to have a good reason and explanation for a new scar. Or else he's going on a killing spree.
Toji:
Similar to Sukuna, I believe he would become mad at whoever makes you do something like this to yourself. "Just talk to me. There are so much better resolutions than fucking hurting yourself, babe. Tsk... look at those..." he would hold your wrist up for you to see your scars and look into your eyes. "Do you really want to remember the pain people gave you? Do you really want to look back at those scars and remember shit people did to you?" Even though he's grumpy, he would hug you more, make sure you feel safe and call you from time to time when he's at work. Later on, he would try to convince you to cover up those scars with a tattoo. "You would look so sexy with a tattoo, babe. Let's make sure you forget this shit and look at something you want to remember." Maybe he would get the same tattoo to match you, same spot and all. It would be his kind of affection and promise that he'll always stay by your side and that you won't cut your beautiful skin there again. And even if you feel bad to ruin the tattoo with new scars, if you ever tried to self-harm on another spot on your skin, he would make sure to make you cover that up too. "If you need the pain so badly, just get your whole body tattooed. This way, we could spare the time going through the healing process of your ugly scars." Ugly because what people did to you made you do them.

I'll stop it here since I'm going out of ideas rn. If you want a part two, let me know and who I should include there. I hope you like it! 🙏🏻🩵✨️ stay safe~

NSFW! MDNI!

Thx for the request! I had so much fun doing this. If u want a part 2 with Nanami, Toji & Choso, maybe let me know~
Jjk mens favorite spot to give u hickeys
Just a random thought I had while thinking about what to write for the part 2 smau of embarrassed hehe
Including: gojo, geto, nanami, sukuna, choso & toji
MDNI! NSFT!

Gojo: Your hips
This man is all about fashion. And if there's one thing Satoru loves more than being buried deep inside u with his perfectly formed d*ck, it's giving u the most creative hickeys possible. His favorite spot is your hips, because one time be made them look like little hearts that stick out when u were wearing those low waisted pants he loves so much on u and they were always there for him to see and think about how much fun u guys had making them. Next time, he definitely tries to write his name out of hickeys in Kanji! Maybe u even think about getting it tattooed.
Geto: Your Chest
Suguru loves your chest. It doesn't matter if u think your boobs are too small or big. For him, it's the way they look when he marks them and the way u react when he gets carried away with his bitemarks. He almost never shows this side in public, but you always know how his true face looks whenever it lays between your wonderful formed boobs, ready to paint his very own canvas. One time, he even took a photo of it and made it his phone background.
Nanami: Your Neck
Kento is a classic man, and as much as he prefers to keep sexual things private, he sometimes gets a bit carried away whenever he kisses your neck. His hickeys aren't as big but rather all over the place, like little butterflies flying over your skin upwards your chin and downwards your collarbone. There's always one spot that gets him started, due to your reaction whenever he kisses your neck: either it's when he stands behind u, stroking your hair aside and kisses the middle of your nape or the little sensitive spot right beside your pulse. Good thing he doesn't have to be careful when you have long hair to hide it or winter- and scarf season is coming...
Sukuna: No preference/Everywhere
Let's be real, whenever Sukuna marks u it's for the one and only purpose to show who u belong to and to make his point clear: every spot that's visible for others and makes you crazy while he does so, is the right spot. But his bite marks, though... gosh, u really ask yourself when the day will come that this man will literally!!! eat u up. It doesn't help that whenever he sweettalks that he mentions how good your skin tastes.
Choso: Your Stomach
Choso lives for your reactions. He needs it like the air to breathe. Whenever he kisses u, he needs to watch your reaction. His favorite thing to do is kiss downwards to your center while claiming the path as his own. Your little twitches and moans, the way your eyes light up with the thought of him going to eat u out pops up is his perfect definition of foreplay and can never under no circumstances be skipped. And he also loves to see the marks the next morning, knowing you will not forget about him for at least a couple days until he needs to put fresh ones on your body so u won't forget who makes u feel the best! Simp.
Toji: Your Thighs/Between your legs
Toji is a messy eater. U found out about that on your very first date, and that became even more clear after the dinner when he made you his dessert. His hickeys and bite marks aren't for the purpose of marking what's his, even though it's a good side effect, it's just a reminder on how animalistic this man gets when he's near his favorite scent: your center. He loves to tease you and with kissing up and down your thighs, leaving bite marks and hickeys on his way up, he found his perfect routine for his life goal: to ruin u for every other man. Good luck hiding them in the summer season when u wanna wear shorts or a skirt because he definitely makes sure they won't go away for at least a week or two. Looking bruised, yay. As if your choked neck isn't enough...

SPRING 2008
“So, you’re not gonna miss me? Not even a little?”
An arm was suddenly thrown across your shoulder, leaving you to bear its weight. The press of his uniform stuck to your nape, making his presence all the more difficult to ignore.
Fellow students bustled and sidestepped their way around you two, some even falter in their steps to ogle briefly at the scene unfolding before them.
“Satoru, move!” Shoko— your saviour— jabs Gojo’s side, urging him to budge, but to no avail.
He’s still tethered to your side, twirling around his diploma in his unoccupied hand despite your best efforts to create space between you two. “You’re literally blocking people’s way toward the gates,” she says.
It’s graduation day and the last day of school for the spring semester, bringing the school year to yet another successful end. It also meant that today would be the last time your upperclassmen would walk on school grounds as students.
The sun was beginning to dip behind the many trees surrounding the school, and its marvellous glow cast warm hues of pink and orange that stretched across the sky. Its rays descend onto the school’s campus; setting for a brilliant, comforting atmosphere.
Answering Gojo’s initial question about whether you’d miss him, you avert eye contact with your persistent senior. “I never said that,” your voice teeters between a grumble and a groan riddled with exasperation.
Your eyes sweep the courtyard and you spot a few familiar faces in the crowd. Some are gathered along the steps leading up to the school taking photos to commemorate today. Others linger on campus chatting amongst themselves, and some whack each other with their diploma scrolls while others treat theirs delicately.
And not too far off from where Satoru holds you hostage stood a small crowd of his classmates—specifically, his female classmates— waiting for their chance to bid their goodbyes...
Or stumble out an unprepared confession thrown out in the heat of the moment before they may never see Gojo Satoru again.
Who knows.
All you’re sure of is that they are most definitely throwing you shady death glares from your peripheral.
“Y’know, I’m gonna miss you,” Gojo says, arm still looped around your shoulders. He has half a mind to drag you away from standing right front and centre in the entranceway and shuffles you off to the side. “All the years we’ve spent together—”
“Two years, by force.”
“— and now we’re being split apart,” he finishes, paying no mind to your sardonic comment. The infliction in his voice prompts you to turn to look at him, only to wind up and see a slight pout tugging at his soft, pink lips. “How ever will we manage?”
You smother down the urge to heave a loud and heavy sigh at the clingy characteristics he’s displaying today and decide to play nice.
Gojo’s always been one to be playful, perhaps even a bit pushy at times but it was all in good nature. However, for some reason, his antics have reached a whole new level today.
Emotions were running high among staff and students alike. Some are more potent and… persistent than others.
“You’ll be fine,” you assure, patting his arm half-heartedly, “and I will certainly be fine. Everything will be just fine.”
In the middle of your sentence from the corner of your eye, you spot another one of your seniors— Geto Suguru. You watch him step out from a conversation with two classmates of yours (Haibara and Nanami) and is now trekking his way over to where you and Gojo occupy the front steps.
“Geto-senpai!”
Geto greets you warmly by placing a comforting hand on your head and gives you a reassuring pat once, then twice. The action leaves your hairstyle a little dishevelled, nonetheless, there’s a small smile tugging at your lips.
You’ve only interacted with Geto a sparse number of times outside of class or at the end of the school day. Whenever you both would cross paths you appreciated how he would regard your presence with temperance. It always left you feeling at ease. You’ll miss him.
You’ll especially miss how he was so quick to offer you and Haibara snacks from the vending machines on campus.
Gojo emits a pathetic squawk at the special name drop.
Pale, white brows are pinched tightly together with faux betrayal. “How come he gets honorifics but I don’t?!” he complains once Geto’s within earshot.
“I see that Satoru's already started…”
Though Geto was talking to no one in particular, Shoko chips in given that she bore witness to Gojo’s incessant pestering toward you ever since the home bell rang. “You missed the part where he blocked her from getting to the lockers for a good several minutes.” Unzipping her bag, she carelessly shoves her diploma into it.
“Anyway, I’m gonna head out for a smoke. I’ll catch you guys later.” Before departing, Shoko stretches her hand towards you and gives your arm an affectionate squeeze. “Get home safe, ‘kay? Don’t let these guys keep you out too long.”
Which reminded you…
“Gojo, this has been fun and all…” Being rag-dolled around by your upperclassman across campus has been anything but fun. “But I really should start heading home now.”
You wanted to beat the rush hour of students and working-class alike trying to go home on a late Thursday afternoon. Looking for empty seats on the 4:25 PM train was brutal and you did not have the energy to stand the entire ride home.
Sensing your air of urgency, he eventually relents. Heaving a dramatic sigh, Gojo steps back a few and gives you some space.
“Gimme a second, yeah?” He rummages around in his uniform pocket, searching for something. It only lasts about a second before he pulls out his flip phone.
“Suguru!” A curt upward nod of Gojo’s head is the only warning Geto gets before he tosses his cell toward his best friend to catch. You’re appalled that he catches it so easily with the little to no notice that was given. “Take a picture of us.”
…Huh?
Your brows drew close-knit together with confusion. “What are y—?!” Before you can even finish your question, you’re pulled tightly into Gojo’s side.
His arms circle your neck once more, but this time, he uses the opportunity of your close proximity to tip his head to the side and knock it against your own.
“Smile,” Gojo murmurs into your ear, his slender fingers pinching at your cheek prodding for you to plaster on a sugary smile for the picture.
You don’t have enough time to register, let alone recover from how his lips faintly brushed against your skin, Gojo’s already obnoxiously yelling “Cheese!” towards the awaiting camera.
Snapping the photo Geto sports a lazy grin admiring his work. “Looks good,” he says before he tosses the phone back to its owner.
You’re still reeling over the gentle graze of Gojo’s lips against your cheek, too dazed to digest what’s going on around you. What. In. The hell. Just happened???
Sputtering out a laugh, Gojo grins down at the image on his phone. “What’s with that face you’re making, huh?”
Eyebrows furrowing, you look up at Gojo curiously. Whatever was in that picture that made him smile that wide couldn’t have been good. “What do you mean?” You question, stepping closer to see what he was referring to on his screen.
Gojo tips his cell over and shows you the photo Geto took. There you both are in grain, Gojo looking the most lively out of you two. Despite the quality of the camera, you can see the proud and happy smile he wears compared to your frazzled and confused expression.
If anything, it looked like you were the one who was graduating and he so happened to snag a photo with you before your big send-off.
“I wasn’t ready…” you grumbled, looking away from his phone.
There’s a faint smile lingering on his face, blue eyes still trained on the screen. His voice's cadence grows warm and carries a small hint of affection.
“That face of yours is what I’m gonna miss the most.”
SUMMER 2009
To no one’s surprise, you and Gojo kept in close contact, even after graduating high school.
Well… More so Gojo kept in contact with you. Consistently.
Whenever he can.
He was there during your spring graduation (shocker), much to the elation of the entire female population from your graduating class. Looking back, the number of times he stopped to pose with random students around the school when he came to greet you was absurd.
You’ll also never forget how loud he cheered when your name was called despite Principal Yaga telling the audience to hold their applause and hollers until after the ceremony.
Fast forward to the summer of ‘09 where Gojo consistently seeks your presence to go and hang out with him now that you have a freed-up schedule. Whether it's with him alone or with Geto and Shoko, you can always rely on him to shoot you a ‘u busy?’ text an hour before dragging you out for the rest of the day.
“Sooo,” you start slowly.
Your eyes skim across the playground, watching the few children who were there amble and climb on the jungle gym before you. The sun was beginning to descend below the skyline, and hues of warm orange press onto your features casting you and your surroundings in a soft glow.
“You’re a… guardian now,” you state, eyeing how Gojo stretches his legs out beside you.
You both sit at a park bench, the chorus of laughter and playful shrieks surround you as you watch Megumi— a kid Gojo now supposedly looks after— poke mindlessly at something buried beneath the playground’s sand.
“Yup!” he chirps, but then it’s swiftly followed by a hesitant, “Well, sorta kinda…”
There’s a mental warfare going on in his mind as he combs through the various explanations he can give you, searching for one that would be both concise and easy for you to digest.
“To put it simply, from here on out I’m going to be a constant in Megumi and Tsumiki’s life.”
You think of the step-sibling duo. They’re the sweetest pair of children you’ve had the delight of coming across, and now…
“They’re doomed,” you say with pity, your gaze still focused on the youngest Fushiguro.
Gojo gasps in disbelief at your bold accusation with his hand flying to his chest, clearly having taken offence. “What’s that supposed to mean?!” he asks.
But before you could give him a smart alec answer, the cheerful exclamation of your name pulls your attention elsewhere. The soft thump of Tsumiki’s shoes approaching prompts you to smile brightly. With open arms, the girl practically throws herself at you and giggles.
You give her cheek an affectionate squeeze. Despite her being in the second grade, you couldn’t help but coddle her. “Why hello, Tsumiki!”
It takes her a few moments to finally release you from the hug, backing up a bit she glances up at you. “Where were you? I missed you on Tuesday, the swings weren’t fun without you!” she says, pouting.
“I wasn’t feeling the best, so I had to turn down Gojo’s invite to meet you guys at the park that day.”
Upon hearing all the commotion, Megumi spots Tsumiki talking to you a few steps from the play area. It prompts the young boy to walk over and join you three at the bench. He nods his head over at his step-sister and says, “She thought you guys broke up.”
Huh?
You blink rapidly. “Broke— Broke up!?” You squawk, the inflection of your voice rising at the ‘up’ part.
Where could she have possibly gotten that idea from? You and Gojo weren’t even dating!
Gathering your composure you plaster on a sweet smile, ready to explain to the young pair that you and Gojo weren’t together like that before a heavy arm comes hunkering down onto your shoulders. “Even if she tried, she can’t get rid of me that easily,” Gojo comments.
Christ.
Tsumiki claps her hands together in glee at this revelation. “Yay! ‘Cause I like you!” she confesses. “I thought I’d have to deal with Gojo and his friend with the big ears pushing me on the swings forever.” And with that, she’s already off running to the big yellow slide, pulling Megumi along in her wake.
The sweet smile you wear grows more and more strained the longer you two sit there on that damned bench with Gojo’s arm still lodged around you like it belonged there.
Long delicate fingers drum themselves along your bare shoulder which leaves a tingling sensation that lingers against your skin.
“Gojo Satoru…” you hiss between clenched teeth.
Your hand creeps up to give his knee a mean pinch, but as always, Gojo reads your movements like a damn book and catches your hand in his before that could happen. “Hm?”
“What do you mean ‘Hm’?” You gesture in the general direction of where the kids are playing. You feel your brows start to pinch together. “Why would you tell them that?!”
“It’s true though, no?” Snowy white wisps of hair fall in front of his eyes shaded by his signature round sunglasses. “We haven’t ‘broken up’ and we’re still together. Just not in their understanding of it.”
“You—! That’s not—” You flounder for words, trying to spit out why he can’t go around inadvertently feeding into the imagination of whatever relationship Tsumiki and Megumi thought you two had. But you come up blank.
“You’re irritating, you know that?” you say, as you try (and fail) at removing his arm which still rests comfortably around your shoulders, pressing you tight against him. “You’ll wind up confusing them.”
An easy smile slips onto his lips as he observes Tsumiki and Megumi scramble up the slides. “Relax,” he responds. “They’re smart kids.”
And until it was time for the Fushiguros to go home, there you two sat underneath the thinning ochre sky. Stuck under the guise of an unspoken relationship.
WINTER 2011
Being the “middleman” between two people who are so obviously into each other but cannot figure out how to hang around each other normally was all too common for Shoko.
It’s a shame that Geto wasn’t available to come down and hang out with the three of you tonight, he would’ve revelled in getting a kick out of this expected yet unexpected… turn of events.
Brought in as a buffer between you two, with an unlit cigarette dangling loosely from her lips Shoko leaned back in her chair and watched the buzzing scene before her unfold with bemused eyes.
Underneath the comforting golden glow of the restaurant’s hanging table light, Gojo picks at the cookie dough chunks that litter your plate to which you turn a blind eye. Now, Shoko could’ve easily brushed this occurrence off, seeing that friends often eat from each other's share of food all the time.
But something was... different.
With Gojo seated to your left inside the booth, he neatly cuts up a piece of his soft, creamy cheesecake and leverages the small serving on his spoon. “Here, try some of mine,” he says.
Harmful, right?
So, you reach for your own spoon to retrieve the sample of dessert that he was offering you. But without any hesitation, Gojo lifts his cutlery to your lips and prods the food toward your mouth.
There was no way that he intended on doing this right here, right now. In front of Shoko especially.
“Say, ‘Ahhh’!”
Concern creases your brow when Gojo continues to press the spoon against your lips, idly humming as he waits for you to open your mouth so he can spoon feed you as if he were your mother. A delicate, yet sure hand cupping your chin and everything.
He was being serious.
From your peripheral, you catch the slow spread of a Cheshire-like grin creeping onto Shoko’s face.
You press your fingers onto Gojo’s wrist and frown. Trying to retreat from his hand, a peal of nervous laughter bubbles out from you at his display of reckless affection at the table. “Give me a br—”
Gojo uses the opportunity of your uncertain state to slip his sharing of the Japanese cheesecake into your mouth in the middle of your sentence. Your eyes widen a small fraction at its creamy taste, prompting him to comment, “It’s good, right?”
The cigarette threatens to slip from Shoko’s mouth, as her lips slightly gape at what just happened before they curve into a soft smile. Her brown eyes are warm with… something. It’s as if she knew something that you didn’t.
“Ehhh…” Is all she says before you’re already jumping down her throat to clear up any misunderstandings.
“It’s nothing!” you supply in a rushed manner. Your main objective was to simply imply that this was nothing for her to lose her head over. Hell, even the friendliest of friends feed each other all the time! Right?
But at your remark, Gojo’s mouth downturns into a cute little pout. “What do you mean, ‘nothing’?” From the corner of your eye you glance at how he’s fixed another spoonful of the dessert, and it's hovering in your direction.
“Sato—” Fuck.
You quickly correct yourself on your mistake, and school your voice to have a bit more edge to it. Despite that, you don’t overlook how hard Gojo’s beaming at you. “Gojo, not now.”
“Ehhh?” Shoko exclaims once again, but this time the cadence of her voice has changed. It’s gained an amused note to its tune. “You call him Satoru now? Since when?”
“I’ve been begging her to use it for the longest time ever,” Gojo answers on your behalf, and he ignores your mutter for him to please stop talking in favour of jabbing an accusatory finger at you. “You know how painful it was to see you be all chummy and on a first-name basis with everyone but me?”
Lord. You’ve forgotten how dramatic he could be.
There’s a teasing glint in Shoko’s eye that you quite don’t like, and her lips purse heavy with consideration at his comment. “You make him beg?”
Groaning, you cross your arms against the table and bury your face. You can’t with them. Your two former upperclassmen were the bane of your existence right about now.
“I’ll kill you both,” you mutter, your speech muffled by the fabric of your sweater.
A FEW YEARS LATER
A calming blue nightly glow ripples through your curtains, casting your room in nothing but moonlight. Amidst the serene silence, you idly stare at your screen and read the text Satoru sent you right as the clock struck midnight.
Satoru: Are you home?
What an ominous question. Your eyes skim over his message again. And then again.
…And again.
Thumbing through your phone, you glance at the time displayed on the top of your screen. It’s been five minutes since you’ve opened his text. You should probably send something back soon before he quintuple texts you.
As you’re about to respond right when Satoru immediately shoots you another.
Satoru: I KNOW you see this!!! ( `ε´ )
Satoru: Hurry hurry hurry
You: yes... why?
Now it’s his turn to take a while to respond. First, it takes a couple of minutes for you to receive that pinging chime; indicating that he’s texted you back— which isn’t too bad because you like to consider yourself a pretty patient person.
But then five minutes slowly turn into ten, and that ten becomes a whopping fifteen until finally he answers.
Satoru: Open your door.
What the fuck.
Satoru: Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepl
So that’s why he took so long to reply. The man was coming all the way down from his place to come and visit you!
You: you're actually insane.
You: hold on!
Rising from your seated position on your bed, you stalk over to your bedroom door and are about to exit when you spot yourself in a nearby mirror.
“Oh!” you exclaim to no one in particular. You can’t open the door for him looking like… this.
Wait, why do you care about what Satoru thinks of your clothes?!
He’s seen you wearing much worse. Like that one instance in first-year, when you had to borrow Geto’s spare parachute pants because Haibara accidentally spilt his soda all over your lap during an informal outing with everyone.
Yeesh.
Shaking your head, you slip out of your room and pad down your apartment hallway wearing your discoloured oversized band tee and shorts. Upon reaching your door, your hand hesitates on the doorknob.
It stays like that for a few seconds until the doorknob is rattled in a fashion that’s all too persistent, annoying, and all from—
“Satoru!” you hiss, swinging the door open. You’re ready to chew him out on how much of a nuisance he may be for your sleeping neighbours a few doors down. But your looming reprimand falls short on your tongue once your eyes take in the man facing you.
“Happy birthday!”
In the darkness, the soft glow of sparklers illuminates your features and highlights the exquisite details of a beautifully decorated cake held in Satoru’s hands.
Wordlessly, your hand aimlessly searches for the light switch to brighten up your hallway so that you may get a better look at what’s on the cake.
Something trembles in your chest and it hurts a little to breathe. But not in the way that you detest.
He’s cute.
Gojo Satoru is so heartbreakingly cute.
On the cake, you see that damn grainy photo you two took on his graduation day back in ‘08. The photo you love to hate.
Wetness springs to your eyes from the entire gesture, from the fact that he ensured he was the first one through text and physically to wish you a happy birthday, and from the fact that he’s here right now.
“Hey…” There’s concern creasing Satoru’s expression as he pokes his head down a little to get a better read on you. “Are you crying?”
You sniff back your tears and grunt out a watery, “No… Shut up and come in already.”
Ushering him inside, Satoru hands you your cake, toes off his shoes and heads straight to your living room. Good to see that he’s already making himself at home.
Plopping himself down onto your couch you hesitantly follow behind him, suddenly feeling like a stranger in your own home. “Come, come!” He waves a welcoming hand at you and pats the seat beside him, insinuating that you should sit.
With immediate interest, you do as he says and take a seat beside him after you position your cake in the middle of your coffee table. The couch feels so small now, with him spread out like that.
Pulling out something from his pocket with one hand and tugging off the party hat from his head with the other— had he been wearing that the whole time?— Satoru clears his throat. “Before you cry again, I gotta make sure you’re able to see your present first.”
He takes your head in his hands, and you realize his fingertips are a little cold as they press on your warm cheeks. Stretching the string down from the party hat a bit, he places it under your chin and snaps the cardboard cone into place on your head.
Breathing a noise of satisfaction seemingly content with how you look, a cheeky grin dances across Satoru’s face. “Perfect. You can now go ahead and open your gift,” he says, handing you a small black velvet box with the company logo HW scrawled across it.
“Wait, what,” you deadpan.
This can’t be what you think it is.
“It’s not a ring!” Satoru blurts. But composes himself seconds later with a quip of, “Unless you want it to be?”
Har. Har. Very funny.
You disregard what he’s said and peel open the box with caring hands.
Inside was the most extravagant necklace you’ve ever laid eyes on. A diamond pendant laid bare inside the box in the shape of a forget-me-not with your birthstone at the flower's centre.
That could’ve easily cost him a little over one million yen if you think about it deeply.
“Satoru!” you squeal.
Without thinking, you throw your arms around his neck and squeeze your longtime friend into your loving embrace. Satoru’s gift to you almost topples and sinks into the crevice of your couch had it not been for his quick hand to catch the necklace.
Your heart’s racing, and initially, his body goes rigid until he gradually relaxes under your hold. “You’re crazy, ’s too expensive!” you sparingly chastise him.
Satoru swallows hard and brings a careful arm up to reciprocate the hug. You feel the warm press of his arm against the thin material of your shirt.
“Nothing’s too expensive if you’re involved,” you hear him murmur into your ear. “So, don’t worry ‘bout it.”
You give him one last bone-crushing squeeze, hoping that your rare show of physical touch does not go unnoticed and exemplifies how grateful you are. Pulling away from him you look him dead in the eyes. “Thank you, seriously.”
Shrugging you off like it was no big deal as if he didn’t blow double, maybe even triple the money the average Japanese businessman earns on a singular paycheque toward your necklace, Satoru casts you a gentle smile and changes the subject.
There would be no need to dwell on it any longer with what’s to come.
“Now…” He gives your lower back a soft pat. Once, and twice. “A birthday kiss from the birthday girl.” Satoru puckers out his lips and shuts his eyes real tight, making a huge show out of it.
For extra effect, he even hums a prolonged Mmm-ing sound to emphasize him waiting for you to initiate it.
It’s a joke; you know he’s joking. He has a ridiculously long history of being overly affectionate with his teasings and whatnot.
But this time, you really do lean in and take said kiss from him.
There’s something incredibly adorable about this kiss that has your heart surging in your chest. Partly because it’s the first time that you’re kissing each other, but mostly because of how frigid and careful it is. It made you feel as if you were in high school all over again, trying a plethora of new things for kicks and giggles.
The tension was almost palpable, thick enough to suffocate the air he breathed. Even when you pulled away creating space between you both, Satoru still felt a lingering lump in his throat.
Cracking your eyes open, you see that Satoru’s own are blown wide. Piercing cerulean eyes stare unblinking at you. Normally, you would’ve found that to be off putting as hell, had it not been for the slow rise of a blooming pink crawling up his neck.
“Sorry,” you offer weakly. Sensing that you may have gone too far, you make an effort to scoot off his lap. But a determined arm holds you in place.
“Again.” He swallows thickly, and your eyes follow that mesmerizing movement in his throat. “I… I didn’t do it right. Please.”
And who are you to make him beg? So, you do as he says.
Leaning in, your lips press against Satoru’s once more. And this time, he has the sense to close his eyes and bask in it, not daring to let his nerves get the best of him (though he’d never admit it).
Slotting yourself to be more flushed against him, the tips of your noses brush and you feel Satoru’s hand smooth down your spine. The pads of his fingertips press onto your exposed skin peeking out from underneath the hem of your shirt bunched around your hips.
God, you wanted him bad.
It’s abrupt, the way you push yourself off him and force yourself to stand on your feet, breaking the kiss. The rise and fall of your chest is a bit staggered and Satoru’s is too. He’s all red-faced and his snow-white hair is a bit dishevelled, considering how many times you’ve combed your fingers through it.
“Did I do something wrong?”
Cute.
That alone made you want to jump his bones even more.
You shake your head and get one good look at him before you leave him to head down your hallway. He looked perpetually enraptured by you, eyes hyper-focused on your every movement. “Come to my bedroom.”
Satoru’s stunned, the implications of your remark not lost on him.
And like a keen lost puppy, of course he follows. He joins you in your bedroom seconds after you and stands in the doorway, just kind of hovering there. Not sure of what to do.
Wait. Did he come here too fast? Did that make him look overly desperate? A million and one questions rush through Satoru’s mind as his neck grows red, stained with embarrassment, want… arousal.
Seeing how he seems to be short-wiring at your doorway, you beckon him to join you on the bed with your hand. Once he does, he sits extremely close next to you. His clothed thigh brushes against your bare one, which sends a jolt of electricity through you.
Your fingers find his nape once again and they stroke up on his fresh undercut, prompting him to shiver a bit. “Why’re you so shy all of a sudden?” you question, your voice going gentle with a provoking edge to it.
Gaining some of his personality back, Satoru pinches your cheek. “‘Cause I didn’t think you’d want to kiss me!” But his mean hand then turns soft and slides along your jaw, his thumb rubbing smooth circles into the skin just below your ear.
“Well, I’m here,” you say, scooting impossibly closer to the man beside you, “and wanting.”
Message received.
Hauling you onto his lap, Satoru cradles your face in both hands and kisses you deeply. It’s full of emotion, expressing all the things he’s been wanting to say for the longest time. A trembled exhale escapes you, and it’s through that that Satoru uses the opportunity to slide his tongue alongside yours.
The kiss is frenzied, but so filled with love.
“So you like me?” he asks, his breathing laboured.
“Yes,” you bite, pushing him away from you and onto the mattress. “As if swapping spit with you wasn’t enough.” You guess you’ll have to show him how much you undoubtedly like him, love him even, through other means.
He huffs a breath of laughter and drops his back onto your bed. Underneath you, you see Satoru’s eyes sparkle as he watches you have your way with him.
But something’s up.
His eyes climb up a little higher and this time, he barks out a real laugh.
You still have that piece of fuck sitting on your head. You probably look stupid as hell right now.
Discerning that you’re about to raise your hand to your head, Satoru holds your wrist in his palm. There’s something bright that gleams behind those alluring pools of blue, warm and tender. He bites back a smile. “The birthday hat stays on during sex.”
You scrunch your nose at him. “You’re so dumb,” you growl with artificial frustration and tear off the cone-shaped hat from your head, tossing it into the depths of your room. He whines at its loss, but you’re quick to placate him with a slow roll of your hips into his lap.
Satoru’s jaw clenches and his hands fly to your waist, gripping you tightly as you continue to grind yourself down onto his erection. Your ministrations pull a wanton whimper from his lips, one that has you grinding with more purpose— the purpose of hearing that sound again.
“Do you like that?” you ask.
He nods, not trusting himself to speak, else he’ll let out a pathetic string of moans.
“I know, me too.” Satoru’s dick lurches in the confines of his pants as he watches you dry-hump him into the mattress slowly, your eyes shining with lust. Fuck, he could get hard just off your expression alone. “It feels reeeally nice being up on you like this,” you continue.
You have a fucking dirty mouth. One that Satoru’s growing more and more addicted to the more you speak.
There’s an incessant throbbing between your legs that you can’t quite alleviate. While rolling your hips into Satoru’s lap— with his occasional thrust to match your movements— felt good, it can only do so much. You wanted and needed more.
And so did Satoru, because he’s already pulling at the waistband of his pants. His thumb loops two layers and tugs both his pants and boxers down, revealing his toned V-line.
Fuck.
You fall victim to Satoru’s enamoured gaze from below, which makes you squirm hot with arousal. “Take it off,” he commands.
He wants you to strip him of his clothes.
Caught taking a startled breath, you ignore the wicked, handsome smile that slinks onto his face as you slip off his lap so you may curl your fingers around his waistband and pull. Your pussy clenches when his erect dick springs into view, and the heat pumping through your veins runs a little hotter.
You shiver at how pretty and filling his dick looks. After a few seconds of openly ogling at his lap, Satoru clears his throat which successfully gets you to drag your eyes back up to his face.
“While that was nice,” he starts, leveraging himself up onto his elbows and grins at your cute error, “I meant you, baby. Take it off.”
“Oh.”
Seriously? Just ‘Oh’?
Mentally facepalming, you shimmy your shorts down your legs along with your panties. They pool down at your ankles and you step out of them to stand between his legs.
Fully sitting up, Satoru pats his lap; encouraging you to sit on him again. “C’mere.”
You crawl onto his lap, but you don’t sit down fully. Hovering a few inches away from his cock, your knees press on each side of his thighs, trapping him in.
There’s no way in hell you were gonna sit down right now, knowing that if you do, you’d be pressing your bare pussy onto his naked thigh and he’d feel everything. Exposing how wet you are.
Humming, Satoru lifts the hem of your oversized top to your breasts and sighs. “Pretty,” he murmurs before he leans forward and captures your nipple into his mouth.
You gasp harshly at the titillating feeling. Your hands balance on his shoulders for support, as he rolls your nipple on his tongue.
“Sa— Ah!” You cry out. The hand between your legs startles you and has you whimpering in the open air.
“You’re wet,” he comments, slipping a finger against your slick pussy.
“Shut up about it…”
But he doesn’t. Another finger joins the first and delves down between your lips, gradually easing them inside you. They push against your walls, curling in a way that has you gasping into his neck. “You got wet from grinding alone, huh?”
A breath stutters out of your mouth and you rock yourself against his hand. You can’t take this anymore. You want more. “Do you have a condom?” you ask.
“I—” he groans when your hand slides between you two, your fingers curl around his dick and stroke his tip along your leaking slit. “I didn’t bring one, because I didn’t think we’d—”
Oh.
Biting your bottom lip, you sling a heavy arm across Satoru’s shoulders. You meet his hungry gaze with one of your own and inch closer toward his dick that rests against his stomach. What you’re about to do could be risky, but at this given moment you couldn’t find it in you to be overly stressed about it.
“No worries,” you reply, your voice barely above a whisper, “I trust you enough to pull out in time.” And like that, you push down on him and ease Satoru’s cock into your aching cunt, making him bottom out inside you completely.
You’re so wet and slippery that it took little to no effort for him to slide inside. The noise of your slick sticking to where you two meet at the hips has you two moaning softly in unison.
The harsh mutter of your name echoes off your bedroom walls and goes straight to your cunt. “So tight,” he grits out behind clenched, white teeth.
Each time you slide up and down on his cock, Satoru grows more unrestrained with his vocal appreciation of how well you take him. Desperate little moans escape him each time your sweet cunt squeezes him of all he’s worth.
You were no better. Choppy, broken whimpers can be heard from you, loving how he stretches your walks with your length. He fits perfectly inside you like your cunt was destined for this moment, for him alone.
“Let me fuck you,” Satoru blurts out. He was losing it, and he could feel him tipping closer and closer to the edge of release.
“You are— Ugn!” you say weakly when his hands grab your ass and he stands, lifting you with him as if it were nothing. Kicking off his bottoms, Satoru props you on your back against your mattress.
Crawling between your legs, he positions the crown of his cock to press against your opening. “No,” he drawls, with one hand on the base of his shaft and the other propped beside your head. “Let me fuck you.”
He pushes in and you swear you see stars.
Satoru pistons himself faster and faster inside of you, rocking your bodies against the mattress which makes your wooden headboard tap noisily against your drywall.
You fear your neighbours may have some… less than pleasant words to share with you about the noise tomorrow morning.
“Ah! Fuuucking— shit!” You wail. Euphoric tears start prickling at the corner of your eyes. “Don’t stop, please!”
The pleasure melts through you when Satoru presses down harder into you, his hand finding the back of your right knee and hikes your leg around his waist so that he can fill you at a new angle.
“Baby,” he murmurs into your neck. He says it like you’ve been his for years. “Say my name.”
“S—Satoru!”
Laughing a little, probably too fucked out of his mind, Satoru removes his face from your neck and presses a hot, searing kiss onto your lips.
You yelp when he drives his cock more harshly into you, growing more desperate with the urgency to come inside you.
Riding his high, Satoru says the first thing that comes to mind, which is a long drawn-out, “Haaa…”
What Satoru meant to accomplish was to wish you another ‘Happy Birthday’, but of course, it all gets garbled up in his throat due to his approaching orgasm and comes out sounding fucking obscene.
That’s what gets you.
You come hard, your back bowing off the bed. Satoru, remembering your initial statement about how you trust him to pull out, does exactly that. Albeit, he did it at the very last second, but you avoided a pregnancy scare. So you can’t be mad.
Thick ropes of his cum splash across your bare belly and some get on your top. You’re hyperaware of how it trickles down your abdomen, some dipping into your belly button.
Wow.
Breathing hard and heavy, both coated in sweat among… other sensual fluids, Satoru rolls onto his back.
“Stuck with me for life, huh?” he asks, delicate fingers intertwined with yours.
You hum. “Seems so…” you agree quietly.
Now that you think about it, there hasn’t ever been a moment where Gojo Satoru hadn’t been present in your life, ever since meeting him during your high school days.
You two lay like that for some time, soaking in each other’s company until the early traces of morning light ripple through your curtains.
You’re about ready to shut your eyes until your thoughts are accosted by something you offhandedly forgot.
“Satoru?” you begin, tone nice and sweet.
“Hm?”
You sit up slowly so you can peer down at his blissed-out face. “By chance, was the cake you got for me made out of ice cream?”
You know how deep his love for sweets goes. You just pray and hope to whatever higher power that he chose the safe route and chose a normal ca—
“…Yeah, why?”
Jumping out of bed, you rush to the living room where the cake is probably spilling its guts out all over your expensive, mahogany coffee table. “You IDIOT!”
A string of curses follows you out into the hallway, as Satoru sits on your bed confused.
“What’d I do?!”
Whether you liked it or not, you were stuck with this bumbling idiot if he had any say in the matter, an invisible string keeping you two bound.
And maybe it wasn’t that bad.
Even if it’s at the cost of your ¥20,000 table.

First meeting between Oscar and Fyodor
Well part 1 at least. It will definitely take me a while to come up with what will go on in the meeting lol.

The office room was quiet. Oscar could certainly appreciate the time alone to gather his thoughts. He sat down, awaiting the possible “ally” Agatha had asked him to handle and negotiate with.
The golden haired man had always hated his job — yet he kept his typical graceful posture, his back perfectly straight, rehearsing the lines he'd say and practicing in his head how the interaction would go.
It could be considered an art — Oscar overthought, and panicked so easily yet he made everything seem so flawless, so perfectly easy despite the fact it was anything but for him.
The man sighed softly, before leaning back on his chair.
He already was dreading how it'd go.
A soft breath left his lips, he shouldn't worry so much, right..? He had done it time and time again. If anyone could write a book on how to sell a deal it would be him.
He was far too restless to keep himself sitting down.
His freckled fingers brushed against the office window’s curtains, almost hesitantly pushing them open.
He glanced out at the garden, noting the manner the setting sun's golden hues cast the red roses in an almost crimson shade, the shadows more enunciated in the lighting.
He had to admit, Agatha had remodeled the headquarters to seem more pleasant.
Not that it mattered much to him, anyways.
It was like being trapped into a golden cage — the cage itself might have beautiful, yet it didn't change the fact that it was one nonetheless.
“I hope I am not disturbing you,Mr…?” a voice rang out, his gaze slowly drifted, before finding the origin — a man that stood by his office’s doorway.
The first thing he could make out about the man was the fact he seemed sick, almost enough that it made Oscar worry a little about him. His complexion was pale, far too pale and it was further exacerbated by the manner he had deep dark circles beneath his eyes.
...And the second thing he noticed was that the man was almost ethereal in his looks, he looked like he had walked out of a painting, despite how exhausted he seemed to be. There almost had an air of elegance and gracefulness to him, he was utterly hauntingly beautiful.
Hells, he wished that she had warned him the man he was dealing with was that stupidly good looking.
He noticed he had been staring at him almost like he was a deer in headlights, he quietly cursed himself mentally – he couldn't make a fool of himself.
His footsteps were light and quiet, before he sat himself down in his chair, before he glanced up at the man in front of him, a mixture of embarrassment at himself for being so stunned bubbling up inside his thoughts.
“Wilde. And I assume you are Mr. Dostoevsky?”
“Correct.”
