Kinda spoilers for The Owl House Season 2 Episode 4

So remember when I made that post saying that “I hope the fandom doesn’t drag Lilith too much because I don’t think she deserves that and fandoms tend to do that a lot”? Well, I’ve heard that people (reaction video wise) are saying that Lilith deserved to get neglected by Gwen because of the curse.......I’M S O SORRY BUT WHEN IS THAT EVER AN OKAY THING TO SAY?!

I would say that the 'uwu fanon Virgil' kind dead or at least has become very little because I haven't seen a single baby!Virgil post in months (on tumblr). The only ones who mention it, are people who criticize the fans or the character.

I think it should just be labeled like unsympathetic sides. Like #fanon *characters name *or #OOC*characters name *. Besides Virgil is not the only side who gets babyed, it just was extreme in the past (probably)

Also personally I don't have a problem with fanon Virgil (and other fanon sides). Sometimes I'm like meh ok and read soon but I do enjoy a meaner/sassy Virgil more.

Hey do the Virgil stans that are like "ViRgIl Is A pOoR pErFeCt DaRk AnXiOuS bAbY tHaT hAs NeVeR dId AnYtHiNg WrOnG hOw DaRe YoU" still exist or have they gone because my god their posts made me die a little inside every time I saw them

(Virgil is my favourite out of all of them, but I know he's definitely not some pure angel. He has a lot of flaws which I hope that a lot of will be toned down or solved in the future. Y'know, character development?)

to me the way kpop stans talk about shipping is...very weird. like they’ll overanalyze a 5 second clip of two guys looking at each other just to prove a ship exists...what? and some of these ‘*insert ship name* moments’ are....like, me and my brother behave like that. I've seen couples with zero visible chemistry who’ve been married for twenty years. these people are presenting a heavily manufactured, sanitized version of themselves for the cameras, you have zero idea what goes on in their private lives. also the way that most of those ship compilations are just....fanservice? it’s not genuine in any way. like isn’t there some homophobic dude from super junior who did a bunch of gay fanservice? like. my guys. it’s for the money. 

I remember there was a time in internet history in which people were allowed to not like a character or just... Criticize it, now people take criticism of their favorite character as something personal and try so hard to justify their actions

Like, just because I don't like them, it doesn't mean that you are not allowed to do so. You can just like them, they don't need to be a goodie two shoes, or be morally grey or have every single shitty thing they do justified, just like pieces of shit and own up to it

And this also goes to the people who go "but he's evil" yes... And?

I'm not saying you are not allowed to make extensive posts about why you think a characters actions are justified, or why you think a character deserves to be skinned alive under the hot summer sun and then have water poured over them, I'm just saying we should be allowed to like characters even if their list of crimes is as long as the list of side effects from contraceptives but also we should be critical of the content we consume and the characters we like, we need to accept that their actions aren't always justified by a sad backstory and never forget that they are shitty regardless of their sob story

Ok, I finally say something about it (albeit I doubt people can really be persuaded to see the truth).

Being "something-coded" doesn't mean being that "something". You know, I met people who had said that all men wearing long hair were gay (which is of course far from the truth in any way). Just an example. Same with fictional characters. To characterize them we have a work of art. And in BG3, as in any work of art, we see the "canonical" traits of Gale's character. And one of them is pansexuality.

It's funny that in homophobic communities of male players (aka comments in different media) Gale was blamed for being gay 😆 Because he scared those players by trying to romance them. I think this is enough evidence for Gale's pansexuality.

Just for the record, I do not engage in conversations in other media, because it can only make things worse.

This is a bit unrelated and I'm sorry to derail your post, but this feeling is so valid and I want to talk about it.

I can't say how many times my opinion of a piece of media or character or ship shifted negatively due to the fans. As a preteen/early teen, I read all of the Keeper of the Lost Cities books, I was on that side of Pinterest and I was on fandom, but I got so so tired of the fans that I dropped it altogether. The fans were so aggressive with their opinions I started getting anxious every time I looked at anything related to the fandom. And that's not an uncommon experience, for me or for fandoms. So many fandoms have this problem, where fans get so caught up in their opinions they refuse to participate in friendly dialogue and instead opt to get aggressive and insulting. And personally, I'm sick of it. I avoid most fandoms now. I don't join fandoms, I just consume the media privately and don't engage. And though there's nothing wrong with not being involved in a fandom, I think it's terrible that anyone should be made to feel as though they can't join in or that there is some kind of risk involved with participating in a fandom and having an opinion of their own about any given part of it.

If fandoms are communities that come together over shared enjoyment of a piece of media, why are people being mistreated, insulted, and made to feel unwelcome?

The Percabeth community SUCKS

Okay, I’m going to share something about this. The Percabeth fans suck.. especially when I post stuff that isn’t related to the ship. Anytime I talk about even something else, they unfollow me or block me. I posted a Valgrace piece and they unfollowed me. It makes me so mad considering I always have to talk about and share Percabeth art. I really wish I didn’t actually start drawing Percabeth because that ship is so overrated and overused. I do love it but I hate the fans of the ship.. I can’t even do anything. I can’t talk about my ocs or other ships.. it always has to be Percabeth this and Percabeth that.. Percabeth Percabeth Percabeth Percabeth Percabeth Percabeth Percabeth.
