DAY 19: SANTA TELL ME

pairing: quill kipps x fem!reader
summary: you and quill had been the parents of the group for years, but nothing ever happened between the two of you. now it’s finally time to change that, or atleast your friends think it is…
warnings: just kissing
“who wants some cookies?” you asked, bringing out the plate and holding it in the direction of your friends.
lockwood and co, as well as quill were staying at your place over christmas and also a few days after. you were a bit older than the agency and more in the age range of quill, still all of them were dear friends, or more family to you.
you had decorated the house beautifully, hanging christmas lights anywhere you could and your friends at felt at home the moment they had entered the place.
“gladly” lockwoods feature lit up as he noticed the cookies and lucy and george quickly dashed forward to, taking a few of them.
when there was only one single cookie left, quill saw his turn. “thank you” he smiled “you always make them so deliciously” he plastered a kiss on your forehead, before he started biting down the cookie and excused himself to the bathroom.
lucy send george a look. both of them looked at lockwood. and lockwood just shrugged his shoulders.
“so..” lockwood said slowly, once you had settled into the big armchair next to the christmas tree. “how’s it going?”
“how’s it going?” repeated lucy murmuring
george seemed to deem the question as weird as lucy did, so he followed it by hitting lockwood ok the side with his elbow.
“ouch” lockwood rubbed his ribs
you missed all of that interaction and just shrugged you shoulders. “great, i’d say”
“and dating?” lockwood earned himself another hit with the elbow “like in general” he muttered, while holding back the cry of agony
“you’re coming straight to the point, huh?” you wondered smiling “i’m not seeing anyone at the moment”
truth was, that lockwood, lucy and george were rooting for you and quill together ever since quill had first introduced them to you about three years ago. actually, at first they had thought you were his new girlfriend. it took them quite some time to find out you weren’t, considering you were always acting like a couple.
over the years of knowing them there originated some sort of dynamic in which you and quill would often find yourselves acting as parents to the little group.
sometimes they would make it too easy, by fighting like siblings or not having enough food in the house. or last fall, when all of them had gotten sick at the same time and you and quill had spent an entire week at portland row, trying to cure them.
you had never felt more like a mother.
and in some sense you loved it. you didn’t have much family, so it made you happy to love and take care of someone.
“what about quill?” lucy asked quickly, ignoring the looks george and lockwood were sending her.
lockwood looked at george next, as if he was waiting for a reaction, or for him to elbow lucy next. but george didn’t do anything, he actually just leaned forward by a bit, seemingly just as interested in your answer as lucy was. lockwood sighed and looked at you.
“what?” you asked “if quill is seeing someone?”
lucy and george nodded.
you shrugged “not as far as i know”
your friends smiled and you returned the smile, a bit confused at their beaming happiness, before you stood up. “who would want some tea?”
after they had answered your questions - three times yes - you left the living room and walked into the kitchen. just as the kitchen door closed behind you, quill re-entered the living room and sat down in the chair you had just gotten out of.
that was enough for the trio to silently decided to continue their interrogation with him.
it seemed that the unresolved relationship issue really bugged george, because he got straight to the point. “you’re single, y/n’s single, why not just date each other?”
“what?” quills eyes had grown big.
“you heard what i said” george leaned back and crossed his arms, like he had just finished his job.
“what he is trying to say, is that—” lockwood tried to ease the situation, but couldn’t find any words, so he looked at lucy.
“you’re basically married” she shrugged “and you obviously like her”
“yeah” lockwood agreed “and she likes you back”
“why don’t you go in there and ask her out? right now” george pointed to the kitchen door
“woah” quill raised his hands “we’re actual human beings, not just some dolls you can play with and set up with each other”
“so you don’t like her?” george was mindlessly turning the pages of a magazine.
“i did not say that” quill protested.
“fine, okay” lucy nodded “what seems to be the problem?”
“what if you’re wrong?” quill muttered “what if i ask her and she says no, and what if, after that she’ll never talk to me again?”
“you can’t be that oblivious” george had decided that he had read enough and closed the magazine “i mean when was the last time you had a girlfriend? i’m pretty sure it was back before you even knew y/n. and when did you ever see her with another boy?”
“hm” made quill, watching as you opened the door and walked out with a tray in hand. he quickly got to his feet, helping you put everything down on the table. you looked up and suddenly you were unbelievably close to each other.
“hi” muttered quill.
“hi” you said back.
it was like lockwood, lucy and george had suddenly disappeared and it was only you two.
“how would you like—“ quill interrupted himself “go on a date, with me?” he asked instead.
“i thought you’d never ask” you smiled brightly and his heart fluttered in his chest.
“i thought you’d never say yes” he whispered and you looked at him in surprise.
“i could never say no to you” your lips were almost touching, when you heard a noise from the couch.
lockwood, lucy and george had stumbled onto their feet and were trying to leave the room.
“don’t even pay attention to us” lucy babbled “we’re going to buy some new cookies”
“are we?” lockwood wondered, but was quickly dragged out of the room by his two friends
“we are” was the last thing you could hear george say, in a rather harsh tone, before the front door closed loudly.
quill and you looked at each other again, laughing at your friends, that were acting like children once again.
“can i kiss you?”
“yes”
and he did just that. his lips were soft and you tasted some of your cherry lip balm, that he sometimes used. he was pulling you closer by your hip and neck and deepened the kiss and you wondered why you had never done this before in all the years you had liked him and didn’t take the time to even admit that to yourself.
“i really like you” you muttered against his lips as soon as the kiss had ended.
“i really like you too” quill said “wait, no, please scratch that”
you frowned at him.
“i think i might even love you”
you giggled, relieved, before you nodded “okay” you said “that’s even better”

I was wondering if you could tell us how Lockwood and George met? :D
Hello and thank you for your lovely support for Lockwood. It means a lot to me. That’s a great question. I expect that Lockwood met George while they were both independently doing research for separate cases, maybe at the Archives or somewhere. Lockwood would have been getting frustrated at the work, not knowing where to look, wishing he could have been out doing something more interesting. George would have ambled over, shown him where the information was, casually solved whatever problem LW had, and basically been super competent, much to LW’s amazement. In return, LW probably helped George with something dangerous - some nasty job he’d been given by his Fittes superior, on account of being impertinent. So they both helped each other. They kept in touch. It wasn’t long before George was booted out of Fittes, and Lockwood snapped him up to be his partner at Portland Row.

Love this!🩷
I wonder how did George and lockwood met
I can't remember if there's anything in the books that says that but I like to imagine George saw an ad in the paper and turned up at Portland Row with his stolen equipment and Lockwood took one look at him and went 'perfect'
