I found what appears to be a wine cork in one of the classrooms I cleaned today, guess I missed a fun class. #gv

I like my job, cleaning is therapeutic unless it's your own room then it's torture. Plus every once in awhile I find something cool like this. #gv (at Au Sable Hall)

There was green, there was grey, there was red.
You remember that day so vividly, even if it were 70 years away. You remember the green, the grey, the red.

I’m once again thinking about how Kaz and Inej had become twin soldiers, marching on, pretending they were fine, hiding their wounds and bruises from the rest of the crew and how Nina and Matthias were twin souls, soldiers destined to fight for different sides, to find each other and lose each other too quickly.
When will we start acknowledging that Wylan suggesting to wake the unconscious guards up before killing them isn't actually ruthlessness but blunt logic because he's taken Jesper's "I'm not big on killing unconscious men" at face value and responds accordingly since he has a very literal thinking pattern? When will we start acknowledging that this is autism?
All due respect but Wylan doesn’t try to “learn as much as he can from Kaz”. Wylan himself is a menace to society but not because of Kaz “teaching” him ruthlessness: saying so feeds into the “mini Kaz” narrative which blatantly mischaracterises Wylan. Wylan and Kaz are two very different people with their own arcs, traumas and internal conflicts, but I'm not going to get into that right now because I'll be here forever if I start talking about it. Wylan’s arc doesn’t involve him “learn[ing] as much as he can from Kaz” - it’s overcoming his initial fear, self-loathing and internalised ableism as he develops more confidence in himself and his abilities, by reclaiming his identity from the pain his father's contempt caused him as well as growing accustomed to Barrel life. Sorry that sentence was a bit of a mouthful but I hope it makes sense sfgdhfjk.
Wylan doesn’t want to be a criminal (as is blatantly stated throughout the duology) and only pursues that path out of desperation - HOWEVER, he’s in no way incompetent or naive and knows that he needs to do his part in the mission. He doesn’t particularly enjoy crime since it goes against his very strong morals, however he’s willing to do so for the sake of the mission. It has NOTHING to do with Kaz (who doesn't cling to his decency or morality the way Wylan does - rather, he actively detaches himself from them to permanently erase every semblance of the boy he'd been prior to being "reborn" in the Ketterdam harbour following Pekka's con) and saying so is failing to see Wylan as his own person and is instead erasing his character as a whole. At his core, Wylan isn't a bad person or some ruthless criminal: he's a boy who "hadn’t let his circumstances or this city knock the goodness out of him" (from chapter 16 of Crooked Kingdom). A boy who is kind and good despite the cruelty the world has shown him, but is also a menace to society and a total badass who is willing to blow something up or continue making bombs if it meant doing so for the sake of his crew. You can be a badass and still have a big heart, and characters like Wylan are living proof of that.
So, no, he doesn’t find anything fun about the life he's been thrust into and gave it up as soon as he could, nor does him making bombs make him ruthless - he’s just willing to do so for the sake of the mission because, again, this is the path he’s decided to pursue and he needs to do his part whether he likes it or not.

inej and kaz having issues with touch due to trauma. kaz and wylan drowning and being reborn in the ketterdam harbor. wylan and jesper feeling like they have to hide a part of themselves due to their fathers. jesper and nina being grisha with addictions. nina and matthias being raised as a weapon rather than a human. matthias and inej being deeply religious. inej and wylan making themselves smaller because of the abuse they suffered. wylan and matthias being forced into a life of crime. matthias and kaz losing their parents and siblings. kaz and jesper being thrown into the barrel because of reckless behavior involving money. all of these characters being so different yet so similar and forever interconnected with each other because they know that no one else will understand
Inej rubbing her eyes and stumbling sleepily into the kitchen in the Slat wearing Kaz's shirt only to look up and realise half the Dregs are already up and have stopped mid-activity to stare at her in open-mouthed shock.
Kaz wandering in after her with his eyes half-closed, muttering "good morning" into her hair and then she digs her elbow into his stomach and he looks up and also realises they're being watched.
