Crabs!
Just had the best morning ever. One of my hermit crabs came up from his molt yesterday. I checked the food dish this morning and it’s been disturbed, meaning he’s eaten for the first time in two months. Went out to the kitchen to fix him some fresh fruit and vegies, and there were Jehovah witnesses at the damn door. I did it guys. I told them to go away cause I was treating my crabs.
I made this so long ago...gotta CATCH UP! Prophetic Hermit crab!

My gal from 2020 ^v^ I think I heard someone say crab girl and I barely had a single thought before she was out fully formed and ready to munch on some plankton!
Made this a bit ago for someone, not my best but not my worst.
(I hate doing backgrounds but this was pretty af, but the lighting doesn’t match at all 😭)
terrestrial hermit crabs do not have lungs, only having modified gills, and can't breathe without water. their shells, along with offering them shelter and protection from predators, are very important for providing them with the water that their body needs to stay moist! taking a dip ever so often allows them to refill their shell with this moisture.
...also, did you know that many hermit crabs have evolved extraordinarily large penises in order to avoid leaving their shells to reproduce? depending on the species, this could give them a penis-to-body ratio of up to 60%! :)

By Aki Inomata, quite literally taking the hermit crabs ability for carrying their home on their back, the Japanese artist crafts architecturally inspired shells from plastic for the crabs, with miniature cities on them. I think another fantastic aspect is the transparency, how you can see the anatomy of the crab even when they withdraw is just fascinating.

Had a bit of a scare with Kraken last night
He was laying slightly out of his shell and not moving, at first I thought he died but saw a little bit of movement. I ended up going to sleep after a few hours of checking on him on and off
I left him alone until today when I saw he moved locations and is seemingly doing fine
I think he molted maybe? It's incredibly dangerous for hermit crabs to molt when right after they are adopted, they don't have the nutrients and a lot of the time it is from stress.
I'm glad he is safe though right now. He still hasn't eaten much though

Well that changed since the slice of carrot and two pre-killed crickets have disappeared off of the food dish.
Very happy that he's eating! He's also walking around more so it seems like he's getting a bit more confident and less stressed which is great
He's not even sitting all the way underground now, just chilling in a small hole

Little guy has been gaining confidence and tonight came out to eat strawberry while I was still awake.
He's never eaten while I am awake
He should finish up quarantine in a few weeks and then move in with Nessie
Once that happens, updates on them will be probably be less frequent

He is getting a lot of produce tonight because I don't want it to expire
He has carrots, broccoli, and pumpkin that I chopped up in a blender, flax seeds because crabs can eat that and I had it on me, and some dried shrimp
I also added calcium since I haven't seen him mess with the cuttlebone
To the side he has a little bit of honey
I get worried about Kraken since I haven't seen him eat a lot since moving into his new tank but hopefully he goes back to eating more
I don't have ant photos of him eating bc he hasn't came out to look for food yet tonight
