Klaus still had to fight after Dave was shot? He wouldn’t have had the brief case with him at the front lines.
Klaus’ greiving would have been cut short by the fact that they were mid-fight? That Dave’s body would have stayed next to him for quite some time before the body would be moved.
Klaus probably wouldn’t have gotten to actually bury Dave? His name would most likely have been put on an (empty) mass grave.
Klaus would have been surrounded by ghosts far more than usual during he entire time he was at war.
