i can pretty much guarantee that ↑that↑ is not a heading you see everyday.
now i will not be giving advice on writing cyclopses, (though it may be sort of the same thing) i still hope this will be helpful for some people out there that are looking to provide a more diverse cast to their wip!
i have never ever ever read a book, watch a show movie etc etc that involves a character with one eye. (aside from those badass characters who wear eye patches bc they lost sight in one eye in some badass way)
for context: i am one of many people who was born with microphtalmia, an eye disease that results in one or both eyes develope smaller than normal at birth. i myself was born with a smaller left eye, which resulted in my left eye being removed exactly twenty days after birth.
microphthalmia (along with many other eye diseases) typically leads to being half or fully blind. i lucked out and only lost my left eye which i am so so thankful for.
i would really really love to see more representation for my community in literature, especially so people would come to see that being half blind isn’t as unusual and weird as people make it out to be.
without further ado, i present to you, a list of information, facts, and first hand experiences from yours truly!
i’ve had prosthetic eyes made to fit my eye socket for about fifteen years (i’m 16 lol) (the first 6ish months after the surgery i never had a prosthetic)
in my life i’ve had four different prosthetic eyes made because just like other people, my eye socket grew alongside the rest of me, meaning the prosthetic needed to be made bigger
i’ve had my current prosthetic for four years now, the past ones lasted about 2-3 years at a time. this one will probably last me through the rest of my life unless i need/want a new one
as opposed to most media/assumptions, my prosthetic (along with most prosthetics) is PLASTIC (people always think it’s glass) and only half a circle!!
i’ve had three surgeries related to my eye
i do not have depth perception which makes doing certain things very difficult (estimating distance, how close/far i am from something etc)
driving is not affected too much, i just have to turn my head more than other people. i believe being blind in the right eye might be more difficult, but i couldn’t say
doing my make up is kinda easy, except for eyeliner is a pain in the ASS since most people close their eye to do it on their upper lid, but clearly i can’t close my right eye whilst doing it lol
my family as well as my friends and even myself often forget i have a prosthetic, which sometimes results in awkward/funny situations
i hate walking with people on my right bc i can’t tell where they are unless i’m constantly looking down at my/their feet
i sucked at basketball bc i had such a disadvantage (no depth perception, i could only see half the court, i was constantly turning my head) but professional swimming is much easier for me since it’s not a contact sport and doesn’t really require for me to be paying attention to a million things at once
i rarely have to take my prosthetic out, and if i do, it’s either to clean it, (we do get eye crusties on our prosthetics just like other people do when they have pink eye or sever allergies) it’s bothering me/really dry, or i want to take it out to show/scare people lol
a lot of people don’t realize when i first meet them that it’s fake bc my recent prosthetic is amazing accurate to my real eye. others notice and assume i have a lazy eye since it doesn’t move
for some reason people think i can’t cry out of my left (prosthetic) eye??? i still have a tear duct??? i actually think more tears come out of my left tear duct than my right lol
i am extremely self conscious about it, but i know there are other one-eyed beauties out there who aren’t which is amazing!! i try to live vicariously through them lol
i make sooo many jokes about my eye lol, and i’m usually ok w other people making jokes as long as they aren’t like overly rude/offensive, then i’ll feel a lil bad about my self
people never really made fun of it, but kids in middle school likes to wave things in front of my left eye/on my left side that i couldn’t see which got really annoying after a while
getting custom designed prosthetics are available, but they’re really expensive (so are normal lol) they costs thousands of dollars, just like other prosthetics do
i run into things that are on my left side ALL THE TIME it’s actually kinda funny lolol
i try to hide my left eye/turn more to my left side in photos bc my eyes aren’t always looking in the same direction, which really gets to me
i wear glasses for both protection and bc my right eye is -1.75 lmao but i did used to wear non-prescription glasses purely for safety
i do have contacts to wear during the summer, swim meets etc, for when i don’t want/can’t wear my glasses but need to see. bc of this, i have a second pair of glasses that have no prescription
if doctors/scientists managed to figure out a way to fix microphthalmia (a birth defect), or do a sort of eye transplant, i would not be able to have that done to me because all parts of my left eye have been removed from my body
microphthalmia is NOT the only disease that results in the haver losing sight in one or both eyes!! there are many others, but it is not my place to share any experiences for something i have not experienced!!!
for once i just want to see a clumsy character who has one eye that WASNT a result of some tragic event.
so please please please consider including a character with one working eye in your wip. it would mean the world to myself and all the other members of the community (there’s a lot of us, trust me) plus, i wouldn’t mind starting an acting debut playing a half-blind female protagonist, that would be so dope.

One-eye one of my favourite villains in the series !! I think the lack of star shapes incorporated into designs of him criminal !!! and a little personal headcanon i have is that hes one of Tigerstar's the first's skyclan ancenstors, through star flower obviously lol

Three Finger x Reader
You were just trying to survive. To get away from them. The demented men that murdered all your friends. It all started out as fun and games but soon ended in bloodshed as each of them were captured one by one. You were the last one living and that made it all the more worse for the fact that the cannibals were after you now.
Out of the three of them that scared you, the one that scared you the most was the smallest one. You realized that every time they were near you and your friends the cannibal would specifically target you. You didn’t understand why but he seemed keen on killing you the most. As you were running through the woods you felt the sticks and vines cut your legs and arms repeatedly but you didn’t care. Your life was on the line and you knew that if you stopped then you would die. A loud, deranged giggle rang through the forests alarming you that the brothers weren’t far behind. You ran faster which you thought wasn’t even possible at this point. But you were tired. And the brothers were slowly gaining on you.
And by gods name. You tripped on a thick root in the ground and fell. The three-fingered mutants giggles got closer. You sobbed as tears ran down your face as you knew you were going to die. The foot steps got closer and closer. It wasn’t until you heard the man’s giggle up close that you looked up. The three of them stared down at you with wicked grins. The smallest one was in the middle whilst his older brothers took their places at his sides. You were so scared that you blacked out.
You then woke up to looking at a wooden ceiling. You tried to move but you realized your arms and legs were tied down barbed wire. They were tightly digging in your skin to where you were bleeding. You yelped in pain. Then that same inhumane giggle came. You turned and saw that the youngest Hilliker brother was staring at your struggles in amusement. You looked at him in fear which only seemed to amuse him further as his dark grin grew wider.
He walks towards you in a slow predatory manner. A knife in his hand. You looked up at him as he stood over you. Then he slams the knife into the wood beside your side. You flinched heavily as he came closer to your face. You turned your head to the side to avoid facing him. And you felt something wet and slick slide across your face and you realized it was his tongue. “Ugh” you couldn’t help but groan in disgust. But the man wasn’t fazed much by your reaction and suddenly grabs you by your hair and turns your head towards him. The grip he had on your hair was incredibly strong but you couldn’t look him in the eyes. “Just end it already. I don’t wanna die a slow death.” You stated in a defeated tone. But that didn’t happen. Rather than the feeling of a knife dived deep into your body, you felt the press of rough lips against yours. You opened your eyes in utter shock.
The man was kissing you. You wanted to bite him but thought twice about it. He then pulled away and snatched the knife out the wood. You looked up at him, waiting for his next move. But he simply twirled the knife in his hand and tilted his head with a teasing grin. As if he was waiting for you to put the pieces together. You blinked at him in confusion.
Then you realized that he wasn’t gonna kill you. He was gonna keep you captive. But for what purpose. That question you didn’t know. But you didn’t need to know. Little did you know, Three-Finger grew a liking to you and planned on keeping you as his ‘pet’.

Three-Finger:
S/o has gotta keep a close eye on this trouble making devil.
He loves to nibble on anything he can get his hands on. Including his fingers. He already has only 3 fingers so he wouldn’t want to lose anymore.
Likes to grin at you creepily when you rub/massage his head. He feels like he is being rewarded in a way.
He loves to cuddle with you while you relax on the porch.
Gets upset when you take back any food he tried to take whilst you were making it.
Will go as far as grumbling or hissing at you for taking away his stolen treat.
ABSOLUTELY loves the attention he gets from s/o. Three-Finger sometimes intentionally chews on his remaing fingers just to see your worried face and prying hands trying to heal his wounds.
Begs Saw-Tooth to let him piggy back ride him around because you surely weren’t. Hey, ya got reasons. (TF has a tendency to bite your shoulder when you don’t walk or run fast enough.)
One-Eye:
The sweetest child there is.
Will help you try to contain Three Finger. Works slightly. Only to have Three Finger being naughty again.
Randomly gives you hugs when he feels you are stressed out.
Likes to observe the ants outside.
Tries to follow Saw Tooths lead and act a bit more mature.
Sometimes engages in Three Fingers games of silliness.
Saw-Tooth:
The most mature out of the three.
Will help out with the chores around the cabin.
Goes out hunting with you to bring back victims to eat. (He’s 14 and he’s a big boy)
Will give you a passionate hug from behind while your making some Stu. (Ain’t even sure if that’s how u spell that.)
But then again it could be Stu from Scream.
Saw Tooth loves to watch you work. It makes him feel nice to have you as a helper. Your very strong for an outsider.
Licks you on the face when he is in a good mood.
Manages to get Three Finger to behave. Oh what a relief that is.
I think Thunderclans one eye is neat
Girl definitely deserved better than being named white eye after her disability. I like to think that she would be something like Nettlefoot or Sunnyeye instead. Still -eye in her name but without the disability part.
Not to be weird or rude or anything, but that guy could totally pull off one eye

This is my kitty Cobra Commander who lost his eye almost 2 years ago. He is such a survivor and man he don't take no shit off no other cat. He's got quite the personality and such a lover. His equiilibrium is off and he often stumbles to the side but he still looks cute doing it. He also has a cleft palete so his nose looks like a dragons nose.. Im telling you guys he's one hell of a cat..
