Shasta - Tumblr Posts

These are five of the ten new postcards I made to take to Thought Bubble. I'm really pleased with them, I think they show improvement from the last batch, which is always encouraging. Part of it might be because I really tried to limit my colour palette for all the new postcards.
They're all my own characters this time. There's Meilee and Lin, who have fallen asleep in the rain because they can't find any shelter, Shasta contemplating a remnant of the Old World, Jessie looking out over the castle town in her Patchworker uniform (it's a sort of messenger and general dogsbody, if you're curious), Louise being led into the woods by some fairies (they're still after that key), and the Crowboy giving Lottie a little gift.

Sketchavember - Day 8
It's Shasta! I've been painting new postcards and naturally I included one of him, even though he's consistently the worst seller, because I love him and I'm going to keep drawing him until someone else does too, dammit.
Also, theme applied! All further Sketchavember pictures will be fantasy-themed (as opposed to sci-fi, horror etc.) supernatural themes may or may not count, I haven't decided. Expect fairies.

Behold! This year's postcards! I just got these ready in time for Thought Bubble next weekend (where I will be with Sammy, Shaz and Jack, in the Allied London Hall at table 93), I hit my print deadline with mere hours to spare!
This year you get Nat with his magic shadow, Shasta carving some charms (because I'm going to keep including him in these sets until someone else likes him as much as I do, damn it!), Larkspur watching mysterious lights near her home in the marshes, and Sweetpea being his adorable self. I hope you like them!

Inktober 2015 - Day 26 : ink and water I’m still working on a background technique, but I think I was a bit too ambitious. Shasta’s environment is hard to draw at the best of times.

I threw some colour on some sketches from the last couple of months, since I had the pencils out for a commission and I should really use colour more.
However I should also learn to draw things on white paper if I intend to colour them, Felix’s shirt and eyes are supposed to be green but the yellowish paper has shown through in the scan.

Inktober 2017 : Day 14 - G-pen (and a brush to fill in the black) When one awakes in a strange, dark world with no idea what is going on, Shasta’s is not the most comforting face to see looming overhead.

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of videos by DrawingWiffWaffles and I was inspired to try some of the challenges and exercises she does. Maybe I’m starting to miss art school? So starting with the ball-point pen challenge, here’s Shasta drawn entirely with a cheap biro! We were encouraged to draw in pen a lot in art school, so it was very nostalgic. I remembered I also used to draw straight in biro a lot as a teenager, so I think I’ll keep the biro in my pencil case and try to do more sketching that way. Fun fact: I never write with biros so I had to buy one specially to do this. Luckily we sell the 35p bic crystals at work, so I only had to go as far as the supply cupboard.

Hunting near the Old World monuments. 2019 postcards 3/6

I had 10 days off work for Easter, but of course we’re still trapped indoors, so I decided to do some gouache painting! I’ve only used gouache once before, but I’m pretty pleased with these. I suppose it’s not very different from watercolour which is what I normally use. Next I may dare to try… acrylics.
These are landscapes from Shasta’s world. One day I’m going to have to make a decision on whether I like the pylons or the stone ruins better, since pylons would rust away very quickly. Maybe I can contrive a reason for them to survive…
