Steve and Robin in my Punk AU, because each AU I make will have them as platonic soulmates, it is non-negotiable.

Steve and Robin should meld into one whole person. It's what they want and what they deserve.
there is always steddie fic with one (or more) of the characters missing. Which yes, yes it’s fine. You can’t squeeze all dynamics into fics, especially if you are focusing on the pairing. What I won’t accept? No Robin Buckley. She needs to be at least be mentioned. She doesn’t need to be there but her presence needs to be acknowledged. That is the bare minimum. Honestly, she need to be included in mass variety in every fic. There is no Steve without Robin, and there is no Robin without Steve. You will have to pry my favorite platonic soulmates from my cold, dead hands. Am I a steddie truther through and through? Yes. Do I respect other pairings even though they aren’t my favorites? Also yes. But do I ultimately put platonic stobin first and foremost? Absolutely. You think these lovable dinguses that share one brain cell don’t become best friends in every universe??? Sorry, your wrong. Steve and Robin are bound together by forces in which we will never understand.

Robin and Steve are like two cats bonded from the streets who can’t be adopted separately and I so desperately want what they have. I love them and their platonic chaos. It’s so beautiful. And it’s madness and it’s awesome and I need it. I need it.
I hate even speaking this into existence, but...if Steve or Robin dies next season and there aren't ten million stobin-centric fix-it fics afterwards I'm gonna riot
pre-s3 stobin friendship that starts bc she stumbles upon Steve and, fresh off s1, he's trying to better himself. she starts up a plan with him and calls it project pinocchio; they're gonna make him a real boy
Need more future fics that aren't dramatic fics about getting back with an ex or something but is just everyone peacefully living their lives post upside down.
Except Stobin who somehow manage to find trouble at every single job they find together.
They work night shift at a gas station that gets held up all the time. They temp at a start up that ends up being a scam. They become roadies for a bit for some random band that ends up getting really big and they get cemented into that bands lore forever. (And I don't mean CC this ain't about them.) They somehow get hired as the only legitimate employees at a business that's a front for the mob. (Even after they leave this job they still get invited over by the don for holidays.)
Meanwhile everyone else is in the background incredulous and very confused because how do two people find this much trouble at EVERY single job they are at. Esp because Stobin isn't even bothered by it at this point! Anything is better than the upside down, this is just normal to them.
I've decided the perfect Stobin au is a psych au/fusion. I don't know if I'll ever clear my plate enough to write it so let me share some world building highlights I dreamt of last night:
Steve, with his people reading skills and his ADHD brain that holds on to strange bits of information forever, accidentally convinces the Hawkins police force that he's psychic.
Robin plays his (thematic) straight man. Trading off antics and helping to fill in the gaps in Steve's knowledge base/memory
This only even happens because the temp agency placed Robin at a separate job from Steve, tragic, and he had too much time on his hands to get a crush on the local dinner guy
The local dinner guy who gets framed for a crime he didn't commit, and when Steve goes in just to provide a character witness he gets accused of being an accomplice. Somehow between this point and being released Steve convinces them he's psychic -- it's important to note even Steve is unclear on how this happens
When Robin finds out Steve has already decided they can solve this. And self employment is pretty much the only way to make sure they can work together forever and no one can separate them
Through the power of gossip, audacity, and actually doing some investigative work. Stobin do of course solve the crime
More general lore thoughts: this is an aged up au so that Steve wouldn't have to have a strained tough love relationship with his dad ala actual psych sure you could use Hopper in place of Henry but I think it's more fun to shove a newly graduated Dustin into just some kind of generic science lab. Who needs a dad for advice when you have six kids?
Every eligible lady in Hawkins is obsessed with Robin and her private eye drip, can an au that doesn't exist have a running gag?
Most crucially, regardless of any boy or girl crushes, this is an au about stobin getting into antics. Steve tapping in to his inner theater kid while Robin nods sagely in the back. Robin asking the most uncomfortable question a person has ever asked another human while Steve smiles and gaslights them into believing its acceptable. Steve and Robin paying themselves to hang out all day and yeah maybe along the way they solve a murder if they're up to it, who knows they've got a lot planned
Prompt: Reunion (Discord Drabble)
It's probably too much, Steve thinks as he pulls into the Buckley's driveway a solid hour before Robin estimated she would be back.
His best friend was finally coming home from college on break, arriving back in Hawkins at some point mid-afternoon with her parents. Steve had attempted (and failed) to convince her to drive herself back in her shitbox of a first car but she was still too anxious despite having her license for almost a full year now.
He'd even tried (and failed) to swoop in and drive interstate to pick her up himself but well, she does have a family that wants to see her just as bad. And it's not like this was the first time, either. Nor have they ever gone more than a week without a lengthy phone call Steve made sure would end up on his own phone bill.
But seeing Robin, being surprised by a new hairstyle, listening to her talk a mile a minute before she starts losing her breath, eagerly awaiting whatever still-somewhat-musty thrifted item she shows up in...
Steve cuts the engine and steps out of the Beemer. He decides to settle for sitting under the pine tree that towers over the Buckley's house, its size dwarfing the property so much that the roots have grown under – and cracked – the driveway in parts.
It's hot today, the true heat of summer coming just a few weeks earlier than usual.
Undeterred by the stupid decision to opt for jeans, Steve waits...
By the time the Buckley's car pulls into the driveway, Steve is already on his feet, pacing in the shade and periodically checking his watch.
Richard doesn't even get the car into park before Robin opens the back door on the driver's side a jumps out, her mother's chiding voice following – something about the dangers of such an action that is said in a way that makes Steve think his best friend's general fears about vehicular travel stems from her mother.
"Steve!" Robin beams, swishing her hair (this time, its regular light brown with the slightest hint of auburn) from her face in haste as she runs to him.
Her jacket is jangling as she goes, the red leather adorned with endless badges and chains.
"Rob!" he says, taking a single large stride to close the gap between them and Robin jumps into his arms, the pair of them oof-ing at the impact.
He only just manages to steady them before they fall, knocked askew as Robin wraps her gangly legs around his waist.
"I missed you!" they yell in unison.
i will accept nothing but platonic stobin living together for the rest of their lives. Their partners will have to be okay with it. Robin moving in with a girlfriend and leaving Steve behind? Blasphemy. They are locked in for life. Eddie happily accepts his fate. He would never dare separate the two of them. Nancy? Never got passed a first kiss with Robin. Bros before hoes.

Eddie: why not? I’m gay it doesn’t count.
Steve: Babe you definitely can’t call them hoes.
Eddie: Why does he get to say it?!
Robin: He was a hoe. He’s earned it.
Steve: *nodding seriously* it’s true.)
Seriously though, stobin is a forever commitment. The purest of friendships. They make me so happy.
platonic stobin is what fuels me. platonic stobin is what wraps me up in a blanket and tucks me into bed when my day was too much, grabs a bowl of dry cereal, and sets the volume to just the right number. platonic stobin is what i crave and what i need and i will fight anyone who says anything otherwise
*grips your shoulders tightly* listen to me. you HAVE to make stobin weirder, okay? you have to make them the embodiment of that Secret Third Thing™️. they’re those cats at a shelter that you can’t separate for anything. make them do examinations of each others bodies cause they’re worried about a health issue. make them share a single piece of gum. make them swap pronouns and names and clothes on a regular basis. make them shower together. i need one of the kids to call for steve in a different room and have robin come to help instead because they’re one person. i need steve to show up to work wearing robins tag cause she’s too sick to come in. they have to get weirder, do you understand? it’s for their health.
"I love you." Robin's eyes were dead, emotionless. Her eyebags only added to the effect, like straight charcoal was rubbed underneath her eyes. Like she hadn't slept in a week. And she probably hadn't, Steve remembered. Her voice was raspy from misuse, the only sounds Steve had heard her say since he found her being screams and those three simple words. He held her bloody hand, rubbing the joints on her fingers. Too thin fingers. He suddenly realized she wouldn't have had anything to eat all week unless she was eating the monsters corpse.
His eyes trailed down her arms. Covered in inhuman bites and scratches. He could feel splinters in her fingers. That explained the mediocre stake she had. That she swapped for her hands halfway through the fight. He shivered, remembering the gruesome fate that the monsters were doomed to. Even evil creatures didn't deserve such a horrible death. He glanced at the desecrated corpses surrounding them. What had she gone through to make her fight like... THAT?
The thing that really caught his attention was the cut on her forehead. A large scratch, mediocrely covered by a strip of her jacket.
With a start, he realized he hadn't responded. "I..." His voice cracked with emotion. Tears welled up in his eyes as he pulled her into a bone crushing hug, breaking down sobbing. "I love you too..." He mumbled into her shoulder.
The corpses surrounding them didn't matter anymore. The sulfur in the air of the upsidedown didn't matter anymore. Not even the fact that they were still in the upsidedown and anything could attack them at any moment mattered. The only thing that mattered was Robin back in his arms.
OR Robin gets dragged into the upside-down and can't be found for a week. Steve finds her and they fight a pack of demidogs (more of Steve watching in horror as Robin decimated them)
