the secret ingredient is cinnamon, and found family!!

Please imagine: omimi is making scones for everyone for the second time this week (bc mankai is full of a buncha ravenous teens) and juza is kinda just sitting quietly in the living room. Omi really wants to get Juza more comfortable near him and he is Highly Aware of Juza's sweet tooth, so he calls Juza over into the kitchen to see if he wants to help out at all. Juza is in there within a second bc he wants to help!! Also, omi’s scones!!

Omi finds it so endearing how eager Juza was to help, even though he’s hesitant to even pick up a spoon in fear of ruining the batter.

So! Omi decides to teach juza how to make a nice sweet lemon glaze for the scones while they’re in the oven!! (omi almost doubled over with laughter when he had juza taste the glaze and juza’s eyes just -d i a l a t e d- bc sugar!!!)

Omimi teaching juza how to do a nice little zig-zag of glaze on all of them waaa

Everyone devours the scones while omi regales them with tales of how good juza was at helping make them and juza is mildly dying of embarrassment but,,..,it does feel nice….

(banri says that hes not gonna touch them bc “juza made them??” but ofc he sneaks a bunch when he realizes they taste sooo good, he’s almost mad at juza for how good the glaze came out??)

I 100% guarantee you that sakuya wishes everyone a “good morning!!” or “good night!!”. Everyone just feels ~good and warm~ bc he says it with so much love!! It's such a constant of everyone’s day that if sakuya is ever sick or staying in his room for whatever reason, every member of Mankai comes into his room to say good morning, afternoon, and night because he's OUR KID. 

And if i may get a bit of angst in here~ Sakuya probably partakes in this little routine due to his formerly nonexistent home-life. Just, the fact that he has people living with him, people who like him, and a FAMILY to come home to must mean soooo much to him since he’s never had that before Mankai. Loneliness is a terrifying thing in how subtly it can affect you. What feels worse for me is that sakuya was living with people before Mankai. They just didn’t really care about him. He was just another kid in their house.

When he came to Mankai and he was VALUED, and respected and people listened to him and cared about his interests, it was like a switch flipped. He learned that having a found family was so beautiful, so amazing, that he needs to make sure that all of his family feels loved and seen and needed too. I think that cheerful personality he had in the beginning may have been-to an extent- an act. He tried to be good and likeable for his families, but that never turned out well for him, so it became just his desperate, automatic disposition. But I do believe that once he found he was accepted at Mankai, the cheerfulness we see in him is real. Sakuya’s sweet “good morning!!”s are more than just pleasantries. He needs to do it, as often as possible.

I’m not sure if this is just an American thing, but do y’all know ‘pass the pulse’? I’ve done it before all of the [3] different performances I've done theatre-wise and I really feel like it could be such a sweet thing for the troupes and mankai in general to take part in! For anyone who doesn't know, pass the pulse is usually done before performing for an audience, and it seems to be mostly done within theatre groups[I could be wrong here, just in my personal experience!!]. It entails everyone standing in a circle, silently, sometimes with your eyes closed, and you’re all holding hands. One designated person squeezes the hand of the person on their left or right, and then that person squeezed the hand of the person next to them, and so on until you get back to the first person. The squeezing is meant to be sort of like the ‘pulse’ of the group, and it’s meant to be a nice, calming moment of connection before a performance. The little tradition that the summer troupe had of putting their hands on tenma before performances kinda reminded me of this, but I would love to see all the troupes having a little moment before performances.

Imagine, if you please: 

After being taught a bit about Shakespeare by homare, muku decided to learn some monologues and present them to homare as a bit of a thank-you! sakuya walks by and recognizes the monologue, (bc theatre, baby) and they all become shakespeare reading buddies! This becomes a more regular thing as it does help them all with memorization, dictation, and pronunciation!! Homare loves teaching ‘the youth of mankai’ about the wonders of Shakespeare and is absolutely delighted when he finds sakuya and muku quoting Shakespeare at each other and reading the plays while hanging around the dorms.

I present to you, concept:

homare: Rise and shine dear friend!!!!! The time to begin our day has come upon us!! We mustn't delay and I shan't be taking no for an answer!!!

hisoka: 5 m're mins pls

homare: Of course!!! And if you attempt to sleep for any longer I shall simply tempt you out of bed ~avec chocolat chaud~!! [~with hot chocolate~ in french]

hisoka, peeking up from the covers with an inquisitive look: …?

homare: WITH THE LITTLE MARSHMALLOWS YOU ARE SO FOND OF!!

hisoka: begrudgingly scampers out of bed

homare and citron being language learning buddies?? YES PLEASE 

[this ended up kinda long, so just so y’all know, it continues after the cut!] also, if you like this, consider sending me asks or requests about anything a3! related! please just reference my pinned post on what i will/won’t write. :3 thank you and hope you enjoy my ramblings~~

As I will be writing about/referencing languages I am not entirely fluent in here, I just want you all to be aware that it is not my intention to offend anyone! I took care with my words, but if I in any way made an insinuation that was not correct/ offensive, please let me know!! I’d greatly prefer being corrected, over spreading misinformation. In terms of my personal language experience, i speak english natively, i have been learning french for about 5 years, i am attempting to teach myself basic japanese [haven't progressed very far lol],and i know a few phrases in arabic, but only verbally/auditorily [i only understand them when spoken]. I'm a bit of a language nerd, and i love learning phrases in other languages!!

You know, I really think citron and homare are language learning buddies!!! Like, citron is so much more intelligent and perceptive than he’s given credit for [citron appreciation post incoming? Mayhaps!!] and homare does tend to use languages other than japanese in his poems. If I'm not mistaken, he’s canonically used english and french words, both incorporated into his work in ways that are [pretty much] grammatically correct! Homare has also spoken about his love for Shakespeare, and while it’s likely he’s been reading translated versions, I wouldn't put it past him to try and learn enough english to read them while referencing a dictionary. 

As for citron, it seems to be canon that zahran is an arabic-inspired language, if not fully arabic. [side note: in arabic, zahran means ‘radiant/glowing/flower’ in most translations and is used as a name] It’s hard enough to learn and speak a language not your own, and knowing that the pronunciation, speaking, and writing patterns of arabic are not very similar to that of japanese makes the fact that citron is fluent in japanese with the occasional slip-up is very impressive!![also, take into account that i think we have evidence enough to say most of these ‘slip-ups’ are kinda on purpose to make the others laugh] If i am remembering correctly, i believe citron has also used words and phrases in english. which is also a really difficult language!!

Now, multilinguals do tend to bond over the difficulties and rewards of learning languages, and I really see this kind of relationship starting between citron and homare when they realise they both like learning languages!! Just, I'd imagine them comparing notes, quizzing each other on vocab and just learning better by doing it together!! I’d like to think that they have movie nights with whatever language they’re focusing on every now and then. I feel like citron would suggest it and homare would jump at the chance to learn new phrases and train his ear to recognise the speaking patterns better so he could incorporate it into his art. It just feels like there would be such a soft, gentle atmosphere as they slowly get engrossed in the film, notepads and pens left to sit on the couch and other members of mankai sitting around the tv screen, following along with the subtitles. Also consider, making multilingual puns >:3. 

(Not exactly part of the hc, but i just wanted to share this because it made me happy!! In english there’s the phrase, “Birds of a feather, flock together.”, meaning people who are similar/have similar interests gravitate towards each other. In french, that phrase is approximately, “Les oiseaux avec le même plumage, s'assemblent a le même rivage”. Which directly translates to, -birds with the same feathers gather at the same river- which has the same meaning as the one in english! Now, the thing that really gets me about these phrases is, 

THEY BOTH RHYME!!!!!! 

I love rhymes and literary devices in any language, but i just adoreee that these two phrases happen to rhyme in both languages!!)

just in case, cw: potentially dangerous accident, mild cursing I think it's plausible to imagine that misumi is always in the theatre during all tech rehearsal, even when he has nothing to actually do. It seemed to be that once props and tech came in, misumi followed. But no one really minded because he didn't disrupt rehearsals. Now, no one in mankai really knew why misumi is always around during tech until one day during a very tech/prop heavy scene in a short mixed troupe play. Everyone was on heavy time constraints and tech week kinda became tech 3.5 days. Due to the rush, not everything on the catwalk was secured properly, and a stagehand had to run up to hand off a toolbag to someone working right above the stage. The toolbag falls. Before anyone can notice, misumi runs onto stage and tackles tsumugi. The toolbag, full of metal tools, fell onto the stage, crushing the wooden prop tsumugi was standing on. The entire theatre fell silent for a minute, then as one body, izumi and the cast ran over to misumi and tsumugi to just hold them for a minute. It was scary as hell for the people who had never seen an near-accident like that, and rattled the people who had seen worse. Since then, posters were put up by the catwalk to secure all loose items and misumi enlisted hisoka to stand by during complicated productions. ~~~~~~~~~~~ sorry if this one feels a bit rushed, i had hit a mini writer’s block and this was the first thing i could come up with! i will be finishing up any requests that have been sent in, and i thank you all for being patient with me !! :)

Spring Troupe with a kinda tsundere-ish (not in an abusive way but cute denial) s/o please?

ahh this was cute!! thanks for sending this in and being so patient, hope you like it!!! 

Sakuya : he’s a bit surprised at first!! The first time they kinda turned away from him abruptly during a conversation (he was talking about the costumes for their upcoming performance and *omg his eyes are sparkling?? Why is he so cute??ghkjfhkngjndk I can't take this oh god*) he worried for a second that he might have upset them, which is the last thing he’d want to do!!! He stepped over to see their face properly and he kinda shut down and got more confused when he realised they were blushing??? Poor kid just could not figure out for the life of him why they were blushing when he was just talking about a play until itaru explained that he was being vv adorable. Once he learns this, he proceeds to become a blushin little mess whenever he realises they’re blushing and then it's just a never ending cycle until someone says something.

Masumi: oo i paused for a second writing this one, but i think masu would adore this!!!! He’s grinning and blushing bc he adoreeees seeing his s/o all flustered and stubborn. He’d be stubborn right back at his s/o until they give in (ex: complimenting them until they’re red in the face) because it makes him vv happy :>

Citron: a bit confused at first, but once he remembers the concept of ‘tsundere’, he’s all here for it!! He’d be the one to call his s/o a tsundere to their face because he thinks it's a cute nickname! He will lightheartedly tease his s/o but he would always assure them afterwards that he wasn't trying to be mean! They’re just too cute!

Itaru: HE IS LOVING THIS OMG!!!!! He recognised it right away!!!! Every now and then they say something that's almost word for word what a tsundere character in one of his games says to the protagonist and aaaAAAHHHHHH!!!! He giggles so hard!!! And he will purposely flirt just to see their reaction bc yoo!!!! They’re so cute!!! Masumi says ew at itaru every single time, but gamer boy wouldn’t have it any other way <3

Tsuzuru: Honestly, I think for tsuzu he’d try and learn his s/o’s behavior and habits, and before you know it, tsuzu gets smooth as hell??? No one saw it coming?? But! with all his writing, he’s gotten really good at character analysis and he’s come to learn a lot of their ‘lines’ and can read body language like a book so he knows exactly which buttons to push and when to tease his s/o without being mean

Chikage: (note for this one! As of writing this, I've only just met chikage in-story, so I apologise if this is a bit ooc!) ok, cabbage man takes this as a personal challenge. Chikage definitely likes having the upperhand in knowing that anytime he wants he can turn the argument in his favor if he just flirts a little bit. He’s always smiling with this cocky little look on his face and ahfdhjaskmds its the WORST uk what i mean?

Heya~ can I have some Juza and Sakuya friendship headcanons? The clumsy yet earnest duo is so underrated and I would love to see more of them as buddies 🥺🥺🥺 ~🍁

Ooooo these two are so cute!! Thanks for waiting for me to post this 🍁 anon!! (and congrats! You’re my first anon with an emoji associated with you! I think the maple leaf is cute!!)

-they look up to each other in different ways!! Juza admires sakuya’s talent and outgoing attitude, and sakuya admires juza’s drive and thinks he’s really cool!! They both admire each other’s passion for acting!!

-Juza also really appreciates that saku is a good role model for kumon and tried to thank him for it, but sakuya insisted that he loved helping others, and it was his duty as a troupe leader to help anyone who needs it, even if they aren't from his troupe!

-Juza once expressed his admiration for how sakuya seemed to be really good at portraying emotion and giving all around good delivery + intonation to his lines, and sakuya retaliated with complimenting juza on his passion and rapidly growing skills in improv and general stage presence

-If u havent noticed already, they are cotton-candy levels of sweet :3

-Sakuya secretly wants to know juza’s workout routine

-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA they’re angels

-Saku knows that sometimes juza doesnt talk alot, not in a rude way, but he’s just a bit quiet, so he doesnt push juza to socialize but he’ll keep talking to him so he knows he’s not being left out

-On that note, sakuya has made it a point to specifically ask juza his opinion on something during group conversations to get him a bit more out there

-Sakuya really does love seeing the hyodo-sasika family interact, and when they all collectively noticed his yearning for a family dynamic, they pretty much adopted him. Saku comes over for dinner with juza and kumon, sometimes with muku, and sometimes with all of them!!! Their parents adore saku vv much

-Juza once saw sakuya climbing onto a counter to get something from the top shelf and remembered how kumon does the same, from then on he told sakuya to ask him if he needed help reaching something

-Its kinda funny, they have an older-younger brother dynamic, but depending on the situation its like they switch roles

-Usually sakuya is like an older brother tho

hiii could you please make some general friendship headcanons for hisoka and homare? i love their dynamic so much ^_^

Oo ofc!! I adore the interactions between hisoka and homare!!! I think it's very clear that there’s a lot of platonic love within all the troupes, and homare plainly expresses that he loves his troupe and waaa it makes me so happy!! I love the expression of love between friends and all the instances of unconditional platonic love makes me feel all warm and happy :D

-Homare calls hisoka ‘my dear friend’ and occasionally ‘my dear’ among other platonic terms of endearment

-As i 100% believe homare is a language nerd, whenever he learns a new term of endearment or a beautiful new word he tells hisoka first!

-Hisoka once found tea-flavoured marshmallows and gave homare a bag, homare does not exactly love marshmallows, but he shared them with hisoka and he was incredibly happy knowing that hisoka shared something that he loved with him

-It's canon that homare often looks after hisoka, but I think it probably goes both ways! If hiso wakes up in the middle of the night and homare is up working, he will ask him to sleep, but if he doesn't, he’ll put a handful of marshmallows on homare’s desk so he has snacks while working.

-Every now and then hisoka will make tea for the two of them and they’ll just sit and chill for a bit, hiso appreciates the quiet and homare likes sharing tea

-Whenever homare is out for a long period of time during the day, hisoka misses him! He keeps abruptly waking up, looking around him, and going back to sleep. Once homare finally comes home hisoka sleeps better

-For the first of homare’s birthdays at mankai, hisoka got a mug that said #1 poet, but he scratched out the #1 so it just said poet and just left it on homare’s bed. Homare loved it!!!!! He uses it all the time :)

-Out of habit, whenever homare is getting something from the kitchen/ heating something up (king cant cook im sorry) he usually grabs something for hisoka!

-They.,.,they just take care of each other .,,,,

-The TENDERNESSS WAAAA IM GETTIN EMOTIONAL

-you know heat sources and sinks? Homare is the source and hiso is the sink, (meaning homare is a bit warmer than hiso, so sometimes hiso will just curl up near/on homare to get some warmth)

-Hiso is fairly warm, but i think homare tends to be a bit warmer

Sakuya looks around him while sitting in the common room. Muku is happily showing azuma his favorite scenes from his most recent manga, tsuzuru is trying his best to scrape together dinner, and kumon is pleading with yuki to get him to play cat’s cradle. “You have such nimble lithe fingers! You’d be great at it!!” “What, and get my hands all sore and have to make the puppy embroider this shirt? I don't think so” “C’mon pleaseee?? Just for 5 minutes??” “Tch, fine I guess.” Sakuya is surrounded by love.

Omi reaches over the sofa and ruffles sakuya’s hair. “A little bird who was up late told me you were studying past midnight. You feelin’ ok?” Sakuya beamed up at Omi’s thoughtfulness. “Ah, i was hoping no one would notice if i was quiet enough. But yeah… I had a history quiz today and I was cramming. But I remembered all the answers!! Well, except for that one that involved dates, I might have been off by a year or too...” “Well, I’m glad you did a good job! We’re all proud of you, you know that, right?” Sakuya paused. Proud? Proud of him? Proud? Omi, stood for a moment, then understanding hit him, sakuya wasn’t used to this. Unsure how to proceed, he laid his hand on the little kid’s shoulder and rubbed his thumb slowly back and forth. “I mean it.” Sakuya is surrounded by love.

The two grab cups of milk and go to sit in the courtyard, with a plate of a few canelés between them.

Sakuya knows he is loved.

Muku takes a pottery class one year and made homare a teapot and a matching cup! He wanted to paint roses on them before they were glazed, so he asked kazu to help him practice to make sure that the ones on the pot and cup would be pretty!! (he practiced on little squares of paper, then cut them out and hung them on a string in his room bc they looked pretty!!) Homare loved it and recited a poem about it upon receiving the gift. He now uses the set as often as possible and smiles whenever he thinks about it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ these two give me such wholesome student teacher vibes waa.,,,

Misumi and kazu regularly re-enact the entire duck song. (Perfectly every time may I add!!)

Tenma hates it because it doesn't make sense??? Why doesn't the duck just get some himself?? It's so repetitive?? (He’s never seen the video before the first mini “performance”)

Tsuzuru and omi are silently suffering through hell every single time. But the triangle buds look like they’re having so much fun so they can never bring themselves to voice their frustrations. (Their little brothers used to play the song on repeat so they’ve been suffering this pain for years.)

Sakyo just leaves the room. (But he’s secretly happy that they’re all laughing and getting along)

Taichi, Kumon, and Citron join in if they happen to be there when it starts! (Once by chance all 3 of them were in the common room and they all joined in. In total 5 people were singing at once and it was chaos. )

When first learning different languages (i think he knows at leaaassst 3, if not the basics of more), Citron watched and listened to children’s programs and songs to get used to the basics of the language down. Because of this, Citron recognizes dozens of cartoon characters, songs, and the like from a ton of shows. Citron LOVES playing around with kids and they think it's cool that he knows so much!! Like!!! Just imagine Citron and a circle of lil kids singing along to one of the songs from a popular series and they’re all having so much fun!!!! Since pretty much all the people in the neighborhood know and like Citron, he’s trusted very much by exhausted parents who just cant keep up with the energy of their 5 year olds. One day he was helping a dad put his kid to sleep by telling the little dude fairy tales from Zafra and by the time he was done a flock of tots surrounded him asking for another one. (the adults were listening too but shhh) It became a sweet little routine that whenever Citron stopped by the park he would sing and tell stories to the kids to get them calmed down to go home. All the parents are forever grateful and everyone has fun!

 (i will never ever stop pushing my ‘love and respect citron’ agenda<3)

Hnmmhgng,..,,howww,,.,.how!! *shakes fists* how do i express how much i adore citron and how smart he is and how he deserves so much more respect in measly words!!!! asfdkjnkjdsksfnj i would like to shout and scream!!!

Getting out of mankai with a group of 5 or more is pretty much always chaos from beginning to end. However, whenever tsuzuru and omi are parts of these groups things actually go a bit more smoothly. They’ve kinda gotten used to corralling rambunctious children and getting everyone out the door so they just let ‘older sibling auto-pilot’ take over. Unfortunately this creates slightly embarrassing situations when certain statements slip out. 

Omi regularly fixes scarves and folds up the sleeves of whoever he’s closest to. Once, while putting on his scarf, omi automatically leaned down and zipped up taichi and muku’s jackets. He only realised after banri started laughing his ass off. The most embarrassing one was when he was half asleep and put on sakyo's gloves and scarf for him. Sakyo was honestly bewildered and just kinda stood there for a minute and omi never noticed because no-one said anything.

 A couple times Tsuzuru has asked, “Do we all have our shoes on and tied?”. Without his unconscious reminders masumi, taichi, tasuku, and temna could have actually ended up leaving the dorms with untied laces.

Banri 100% mentally checks out during zoom classes and somehow always manages to get the answers right when called on at random. 

From his home lines, we know that Azuma hates bugs. I’d like to imagine that when he was in his room alone and a bug friend came along he would kinda freeze and lock eyes with the little critter. While keeping eyes on it, he calls over one of the winter troupe members (it usually ends up being Tasuku{sometimes Tsuzuru and Omi automatically walk on over because they’re used to ‘bug removal duty’}), and they have to scoot the bug onto a piece of paper and let it go outside. A few weeks after Guy shows up, Azu kinda just leans over and lightly tugs on his sleeve to let him know there’s a leggy critter. (Guy doesn’t mind insects all that much, and it freaks out Azuma every time Guy holds one in his hand when he can’t find paper)

Hisohoma (as friends or ~something more~) are definitely chaotic in the strangest ways. On multiple occasions they have been found, sitting in a McDonald’s parking lot, Hisoka munching on his Happy meal (with the cute marshmallow shaped plushie) with his ‘limited release marshmallow-topped sundae’ sitting by the side. Who knows how or where he got it, but Homare is sipping a hot earl grey in an old English style teacup. They end up coming home at 12:00 am where they find everyone worrying over where they disappeared to. Izumi lectures them a little bit (Sakyo nods approvingly. He’s taught her well.) but she thinks it’s sweet that they get along so well.

Izumi has had to shout “IF IT’S NOT YOUR PROP, DON’T TOUCH IT” so many times that she has

1) painted a piece of cardboard with those words and hung it up on, both sides of the wings, the storage room, and the dressing room

and

2) taken an audio recording of sakoda shouting it and she plays it at full volume if she sees anyone goofing off with props. (rip itaru, izumi does not play around)

hewwo howdy! could a request some fluff hcs of itaru and a affectionate s/o (gender neutral if possible)? thank u ☆

I also do love our resident gamer! I wanna give everyone in mankai a hug so bad aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. (and dw! unless otherwise specified, i always do gender neutral requests!)

[also, sorry this was so late! i got super caught up with work so im a litttleee behind on requests]

-Itaru LOVES physical affection

-Often when he’s gaming he’ll have you lean against him or cuddle up in his lap

-He has acquired a hoard of blankets (fandom merch bc yes) and plushies of his favorite characters so his bed is much softer and comfier than you’d imagine (but yes, there are crumbs on his bed, you’d have to hound him to get him to dust it off)

“ ‘Taru bby please, I'm begging you, stop eating doritos in bed.”

“You still love me tho, right?”

“Yes?”

“Then deal with it <3”

-I’m pretty sure that proportionally muku is stronger than he is, so if you fall asleep on him he’s stuck.,,.but he wouldn’t move anyways because likes u~~~

-But you might be woken up by his furious button mashing

-I think he’d also get so into gaming that on occasion he doesn't speak for like, hours. So if he wants you to scoot closer he’ll just pull on your shirt

-Also! You know how itaru has that mini ponytail? I know from experience that having your hair up for a while kind of hurts, so if you kinda run your hands through his hair after he takes out the ponytail he will melt (the first time he will pull out some money bc there was no way you were doing this for free, right?)
