Day 7: What interesting fact have you learned recently?

There is a park in France, where the lawn is mowed by sheep because it is an old battlefield. It has not been investigated whether there are any unexploded ordnance in the area, so as part of preventing human tragedy, sheep "mow" the grass instead of mowers led by people.

Day 8 : What do you find difficult within your subject(s)?

Fire regulations. Physics and construction design are nothing to the fire regulations. You don't even know how happy I am that this semester I don't have projects where I have to draw escape routes and mark fire resistance classes.

✔️Norwegian Duolingo  ✔️Excercises from norwegian student’s book ✔️Classes at uni ✔️Had a breakdown

Today my promoter wrote to me that she will not be providing diplomas. I already had a topic reported and work started. I'm totally a mess. I had to take tranquilizers because I thought I was going to break into a million pieces. I'm starting my graduation semester next month (!) . Everyone already has promoters. Everyone is already logged into the system. I have no idea what to do.

Day 10: What subject related book would you recommend to read?

It’s not directly related to architecture, but in general to design. It’s “The Design of Everyday Things” by Don Norman. It teaches about perception and human preferences. That’s a great literature to understand design.

✔️Norwegian Duolingo ✔️Attending Classes ✔️Keeping calm about losing a promoter ✔️Make new friends at uni

I had a very hard two days. They completely drained my emotions. This situation at the university led me to a breakdown. Today I managed to redirect me to a wonderful professor who will cooperate with me on my diploma. Maybe that's better. But what I experienced the previous days was hell. Nobody could tell me what to do. Neither dean's office nor dean. So these weren't the most productive days of my challenge, but I couldn't focus. I'll be back to normal tomorrow. Today, when it turned out that I will have a promoter, I was so emotional that I fell asleep within half an hour. Like I fainted. But I was not happy. I just accepted that fact and fell asleep. I still have mixed emotions...

Well. Have a good night and see you tomorrow. I’ll be in a better condition.

✔️Norwegian Duolingo ✔️Modeling housing structure for uni project ✔️Wrtie a technical description for uni project ✔️Finish making notes for ecology exam ✔️Drawing just for fun ✔️Attending classes, of course I didn't post every day because I didn't have enough time. The time of exams is approaching and the duties are increasing. They are not increasing quantitatively, but qualitatively. Completing projects is always the slowest thing to do. Still learning all this theory. This week will be difficult for me too. I have plans every day from early morning until late at night. And on top of that, I want to visiting my parents.

Day 11: Do you have any hobbies or special talents?

I love drawing. I love being creative. I have a lot of interests, and that’s my problem. Sometimes I cannot being focused on one activity. I love sculpting, painting, playing electric guitar, playing video games, crocheting, learning languages. But if I would choose, the one which is easier for me than to others, it will be drawing. I can call it talent, but I really don’t like to name it like that. I think all my skill is from practise.

Day 12: What’s a movie you enjoy that’s related to your field of study?

“12 Angry Man” from 1957 - not directly connected with my field, but I feel I have to share this title to you. I am really honored that the best and the smartest character is an architect. It’s a great movie. One of my fav, I can say.

This movie has a very simple plot, but it reveals the greatest human regrets, envy, beliefs. How subjective it all is depending on private experience. Yeah, a great movie. You have to watch it!

As you know, I had a car accident and I had to get a one day off. So.. Am back with my results. It’s not very impressive, but it’s all what I can do after that exhausting situation. ✔️ (every day I did) Norwegian Duolingo ✔️ finished modeling housing structure for uni project ✔️ took and passed BIM exam ✔️ wrote ecology exam ✔️ attended classes, of course ✔️ visited my parents ✔️ met my old friend Some of you can be not sure why I listed social things in productivity list. You know, during previous years I had some problems with dealing my social life with studying. Now I’m trying to connect it and I celebrate every single meeting with others. It helps me with staying in touch with people, not just dive deep into studying.

Yesterday I saw the first friend I met at the new university who dropped out of college. It was a strange meeting. I'm always surprised how people think I'm super brainy. Also that evening, a super-duper friend came over and bought me a new sketchbook to sit down and draw with me once a week for an hour. Isn't that adorable? Plus, she brought real bubble tea with real tapioca, not gummies. What a nice evening it was! Sometimes, when I’m commuting, I think that I’m really lucky person. I meet really nice people on my path. I spent a great time. I have a great support system. No more tears!

31.01.2023-01.02.2023

First month is behind me! It was such a great time. I feel much more organized and my work is more systematic.

✔️ Norwegian Duolingo ✔️ Presented my project at uni classes ✔️ Passed physics exam!!! ✔️ Had diploma consultation ✔️ Baked a cake ✔️ Cooked a soup

Now let me tell you about the irony of being systematic. I promised myself that I would do things on time and not put them off. Today I had a project presentation at the university and I was the only one who NOT stayed up all night to finish the work. I was just THAT well prepared that I finished on time and could sleep. You don't even know how remorse I had that I didn't stay up at night and polish this project. That I could have done better. If I slept, it means I didn't give it my all. OMG but college is ruining the brain.

It's good that I put my health above my studies anyway. I also talked to a therapist about it. She always reminds me of my eternal dissatisfaction with myself and my work.

Remember to appreciate yourself! Take care of yourself this evening.

❥﹒♡﹒☕﹒ 𝗽𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮'𝘀

having good grades doesn't necessarily mean you're smart, a test or exam can't always determine someone's intelligence, but it's academic validation we crave, right? so here are some tips thanks to which you will get straight a's.

𝟭. understand what the professor wants ( 🪼 )

learning the entire book by heart is tiring and basically useless. we take our education seriously, but it's impossible to know everything about everything, so inevitably there will be topics we can gloss over. check old tests, listen to the teacher during the lecture, talk to students who have already attended the course and passed the exam. understand which aspects your professor particularly cares about and concentrate on those, your exam will certainly go well.

𝟮. strengthen your memorization ( 🦋 )

very often the amount of things to study is just too much and, even though you spend all day in the library rereading the topics again and again, you feel that it is not enough. you get confused, you forget steps, you get lost in the labyrinth of the subject. investing in understanding your form of memorization will benefit you in the long run. identify your type of memory (spatial, photographic, echoic, etc.) and focus on how to improve it. having a good memory will make your studying for the exam much faster and easier.

𝟯. pay attention in class ( 🫧 )

attend all lectures and take notes. much of your studying comes from your professor's lecture. underline the important things in your textbook, carefully follow their speech and - if there are any - their powerpoint slides, writing only the things that the teacher adds and which are not written either in the book or in the extra material, if necessary, record the lesson so you can listen to it again at a later time.

𝟰. organize your notes the same day ( 🧃 )

when i take notes in class i write badly and quickly to keep up with the teacher, shortening words or omitting passages.  by reorganizing your notes that same evening (at most the next day, if you really don't have time) you can revise your work when the lesson is still fresh in your mind; if you wait too long, you will forget most of the things and you will find yourself staring blankly at pages of notes which, at that point, will seem more like hieroglyphics to you than anything else.

𝟱. use ai responsibly ( 🪴 )

artificial intelligence is everywhere nowadays and why not use it to our advantage? of course i'm not suggesting that you let an ai take care of all your tests and essays, it wouldn't make sense, however very often it helped me make a list of key points to develop in a research paper, or gave me excellent ideas and insights for projects. they can also be used to create flashcards, summarize and simplify articles, or create practice tests based on the material you will have to study.

𝟲. delve deeper into your “whys” ( 🌾 )

sometimes when i study i stare into space and wonder why i am studying something that seems completely irrelevant to my path. i'm sure it happens to you too, don't ignore this feeling. don't be afraid to explore themes and topics that aren't clear to you, if two statements seem contradictory ask yourself why, if you don't understand some passages, don't be afraid to ask a question. we study for ourselves, before studying to graduate, to work. there is no shame in not understanding, your intelligence lies in striving to clarify what seems obscure.

𝟭. quantity over quality ( 🌿 )

if you've landed on this profile, you're probably an academic overachiever, or a control freak, or both. i know the feeling of wanting to do everything perfectly, but we are simply human, and it is not possible to be good at everything right away. your first projects, your first models, will not be excellent, you will end up redoing the same drawings over and over again, but there is no point in wasting time redoing the same axonometry ten times until it is perfect. go ahead, experiment, you will improve visibly. i look at the differences between my works six months later and i am amazed at how much i have improved in such a short time. you will too. don't be afraid to make mistakes, ever.

𝟮. architecture is not study, it is life ( 🪸 )

sure, we go to university, we take exams, but you don't study real architecture at school. your professors can only give you the foundations on which to build your future, the technical standards, advice, laws, but if you really want to know architecture you have to read, learn, explore, in the most disparate fields possible. architecture is not art, not really, architecture is a home, it is life, as such, it must be lived. you will never design something meaningful if you don't know how to live.

𝟯. be humble, you're young ( 🐢 )

you will study architecture for the rest of your life. you'll never stop learning new things about it, and that's awesome. don't rely too much on one person's point of view, no matter how cultured they may be, they will never know every single aspect of architecture, and neither will you. all you have to do is build your vision based on your studies and experiences. you will probably change your mind many times, you will probably fall into wrong beliefs, you will discover new things every day, you will only stop learning when you die.

𝟰. you don't have to be good at drawing ( ✏️ )

it is certainly an added value, but it is not a fundamental thing. you will draw little or nothing freehand, most of the drawings will be purely technical and almost all digital. you don't need to know how to draw on a program like AutoCAD, but i can assure you that you will lose sleep over the floor plans of your projects.

𝟱. prioritize practical projects ( ☕ )

concentrate on the models and drawings you have to turn in, i assure you that they take up much more of your time than they seem. always plan ahead when making a project (an unexpected event can always happen) and NEVER print on the day of the exam.

𝟲. be kind to yourself ( 🪻 )

everyone has their own time to improve. i chose to study architecture at the last minute and before starting university i was so scared by the idea of being surrounded by people much better than me who had probably been studying the subject for years and had always dreamed of becoming architects. it doesn't mean anything. if you have the right determination it will take you very little time to make great improvements, no one is your competition, your only opponent is yesterday's you, the only thing in front of you is the finish line. maybe you're the next renzo piano and you don't know it yet.

❥﹒♡﹒☕﹒𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆

organization: i know it's the most trivial advice in the world, but i swear it works. before doing anything, i take my planner and review everything i have to do, i divide the study by subject, amount of things to study and review spaces for exams. realistically, you can't expect to do it all in one day, but a good plan could almost allow you to sleep at night!

a clean workspace: i can't fucking concentrate if there's a mess aroud me, i get distracted easily, even by dust, so before i start studying i always deep-clean my desk. i know that not everyone can afford a personal and quiet place to study in their houses, so try to find yourself a small angle where you can really focus.

go to study in a library / café: i didn't believe it at first, but it's actually useful. if you have the opportunity to go to a library or a café after school ( or near your house ) do so. being surrounded by people who are studying like you really helps to focus, you'll be less inclined to get distracted and procastinate. i would feel uncomfortable using my phone in a library with other people who are doing their work while i'm sitting there scrolling on tumblr.

breaks: ik ik, not very blair waldrof, hermione granger, spencer hastings, rory gilmore of me, isn't it? but is it worth it. sometimes i end up having really bad headaches from studying and, even if i keep studying, the quality of my work decreases significantly. breaks are fundamental. i would not recommend using social networks for your beak, because they litteraly drain your attention, rather do your skincare, prepare yourself a snack ( eating is important! it's what makes you focus ), read 10 pages of your book, dance a little bit in your room, do stretching, go outside and buy some mint chewingum, something like that.

EAT!: girls, boys and theys, we know. i honestly think that almost every person that craves academic validation ends up developing a sort of eating disorder. it's not even the food, is the fact that you are too busy studying that you forget to eat, ignoring stomach cramps, or the fact that you didn't get that answer right and now you don't feel like you deserve the lunch. i understand bc i AM like this, like you. but think about it: you need to do it in order to survive ( but this is secondary to the grades, right? ) and to keep your brain active. you can't walk around with blurred vision because you haven't eaten or drunk for fourteen continuous hours. i swear that eating like a normal human being helps you to keep going.

sleep: same thing as eating, but with our terrible sleeping schedules. i know that school is toxic so we end up finishing our homeworks at 2 am everyday ( if we're lucky ) but when you have the chance, take a nap and recover.

repeat things as if you were explaining them to someone: this is litterally the fastest way ever to learn fundamental concepts when you're studying. imagine that you're talking to a friend that doesn't know anything about the subject that you're studying and try to explain the topic to them. finding simple words for a difficult topic will help you understand it thoroughly, on this basis you can then build an articulated and more academic speech. repeat things out loud, doesn't matter if you look crazy, you already are <3

check and organize your notes the same day: i never have time to take proper notes in class, so i review them as soon as possible, with the lesson still fresh in mind. it really helps me understand the subject and makes the further study much easier.

watch youtube videos: youtube is my favourite class. sometimes teachers are dumber than students and you, who don't have a degree in that subject and are tackling a topic for the first time, don't understand a damn thing. ofc not!! sometimes professors are terrible at explaining stuff, but fazal from pakistan isn't. i passed my physics class with a 10/10 thanks to an indian guy on youtube. documentaries and yt videos are a simple and nice way to understand better topics and do insights for extra credits.

delete social media: i'm gonna do another post specifically for this.

"STUDY!" wallpaper: last but not least, the dumbest yet the smartest advice, set as lockscreen a white / black / whatever background with a big fat "STUDY!" written on it. everytime you're about to pick up your phone and procastinate the wallpaper will scold you.

hope this was useful or at least fun to read byee
