Atla Iroh - Tumblr Posts
You know how artists often complain about drawing the other eye of a character, especially if that character is facing forward?
Yeah, well, I just realized something.
Zuko (from ATLA if you've been living under a rock) would have been such a welcome reprieve from that.

Like, yeah, he wouldn't have been an easy character to animate in other ways. Examples being: the hair, the sword fighting, the facial expressions when it comes to his scarred side, fire bending in general, etc.

But like, everything else considered, that's a nice little thing not to have to worry about in larger scheme of things?
I know you can copy/paste the other side and call it a done deal, but how often does that actually work? (I don't actually know, but when I've tried it it hasn't been too successful.)

...
( ._.)
(Anyway--)
And, yes, I know professional animators are professionals for a reason and they wouldn't allow sth so small to deter them, but I imagine that if I was in their place I'd still appreciate it.
Sometimes I watch Tales of Ba Sing Se, just to feel something.

while I’m actually active here who wants some weed iroh to cleanse their feed of all the discourse??

I just think he deserves some. As a treat.
I'm going to say it. Iroh and Martin K. Blackwood should meet and discuss tea
not me sobbing over literally any interaction between Zuko and Iroh in the live action series.
absolutely not bawling my eyes out when they hug.
or when Iroh makes comments to let Zuko have an out or an emotional escape route.
or when Iroh visited Zuko in the infirmary after he got his scar.
especially not at the funeral scene no sir i have a perfectly fine relationship with my father (/hj)
I really like the points that were raised in this exchange, especially about how Iroh saw Zuko as an emotional replacement for Lu Ten; which, when combined with Azula's status as a secondborn and a female member of the Fire Nation Royal Family, caused him to unfairly favor Zuko and exhibit subconscious sexism.
A lot of ATLA fans like to praise Iroh's writing as this all-knowing, enlightened father figure full of fancy inspirational quotes, but we sometimes gloss over the fact that he reads as someone who's really just written to raise Zuko's character up.
The "She's crazy and she has to go down" line leaves a bad taste in my mouth as well, but another thing that really stood out to me is the childhood flashback from Zuko Alone.

Iroh gifted Zuko an Earth Kingdom pearl dagger—spoils of war, basically—while he gave Azula a doll.
Maybe unpopular opinion? even though I don't think azula needs a redemption arc I found it weird how iroh was quick to just say she's far too gone when he only became a better person after loosing his son to the war. Who knows he could've been way worse than azula at 14 we don't know.
Maybe when he said she's far too gone he refered to how close she was to ozai but still iroh as a character kinda proves the idea that azula is far too gone wrong
If you disagree or agree I would like to hear your thoughts
kinger is iroh
if i was in zuko’s place in ATLA i would be so scared of fire like he got half his face burned but also by his father i would imagine that the first few months or years he’s hunting down aang he doesn’t even use his bending power because of his fear.
and like imagine if he physically couldn’t use the most fundamental part of himself and iroh had to like reteach him how to fire bend.
Modern!A:TLA AU Headcanons regarding transportation:
Aang:
-rides a bicycle
-saving up for a Nissan Leaf (refuses to get anything else)
-calls Katara if he needs to go anywhere long distance (he has a seatbelt for his Old English Sheepdog, Appa)
-has AUX cord privileges: plays pop and classic 80s rock (ex. Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” or anything by Shawn Mendes)
-rolls down all of Katara’s windows on the highway
Katara:
-Toyota RAV 4
-has 7 first aid kits in her trunk
-always goes 5 MPH below the speed limit
-is denied AUX cord privileges (too much Taylor Swift, Sokka complained)
-Bath and Body Works air freshener
-has never been pulled over
-DDS (Designated Driver Supreme)
Sokka:
-Ford F-150 (he bought it from Suki)
-award for most parking tickets
-5 months behind on his oil change
-SOMETIMES get the AUX cord: plays electronic music from YouTube channels or popular rap (ex. Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”)
Toph:
-the Queen of Uber
-the most fun on road trips
-had AUX cord privileges, but they were revoked when she made a playlist that was just 72 minutes of Toto’s “Africa”
Zuko:
-either an Audi or a Lexus
-inside and outside of car is immaculate
-regrets having leather seats in the summer
-Little Tree Black Ice air freshener
-gets pulled over the most
-occasionally gets the AUX cord: plays Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, and select Avril Lavigne songs (think “Complicated” era)
-Iroh cannot drive therefore Zuko has to drive him everywhere: he insists on paying for gas but Zuko never lets him
-maybe has a motorcycle??? IDK I feel like he and Sokka could be Motorbike Buddies
I love how Iroh is 100% able to admit he has made mistakes in his life, but he has yet to acknowledge the greatest one:
At the end of a 100 YEAR WAR, he decided to leave the MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD in the hands of a TRAUMATIZED 16 YEAR OLD, and then move like 100,000 miles away.
