DAEMON BLACKFYRE vs JON SNOW vs BRYNDEN RIVERS: parallels/antiparalells:

Mothers: Daena Targaryen, a former Queen Consort to the Iron throne, was Daemon’s mother. Lyanna Stark, a highborn lady from the North, was Jon’s mother, and her family built a statue in her honor in the crypts of Winterfell. Melissa Blackwood, a highborn lady of northern/riverlands origin, was Brynden’s mother. She’s still remembered by her house, there’s a statue of her in the godswood of Raventree Hall.

Swords: Daemon was given the ancestral sword of house Targaryen, Blackfyre, by his father, King Aegon IV. Jon Snow was gifted the ancestral sword of house Mormont, Longclaw, by Jeor Mormont. Brynden wielded Dark Sister, the sword that belonged to Visenya Targaryen.

Daemon Blackfyre rebelled against his half-brother Daeron II, fighting for his right to the Iron Throne. Jon Snow was loyal to his half-brother Robb Stark, the King in the North, and wanted to fight beside him willing to become a deserter. Brynden Rivers was loyal to Daeron II and led an army against Daemon, killing him later.

Daemon Blackfyre married Rohanne of Tyrosh and had 8 known children and unknown sons with her. Both Jon Snow and Brynden swore to have no children joining the Night’s Watch, but both of them had lovers: Ygritte and Shiera Seastar.

Brynden Rivers and Jon Snow were elected as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Daemon Blackfyre was the leader of the Blackfyre rebellion and wanted to claim the Iron Throne for himself.

Daemon Blackfyre died not leaving his 12 years old son Aegon’s side, who was killed by Brynden Rivers. Daemon was also killed by him. Jon Snow and Brynden sacrificed children for the greater good: in Brynden’s case it was Aegon Blackfyre, in Jon’s - Gilly’s son.

Additionally, both Brynden and Jon have an ability to warg into animals.

if you were in charge of the hypothetical hbo blackfyre rebellions show, what directorial choices would you make to improve upon the source material?

this is not improving upon the source material so much as tailoring it to my tastes

start w baelor’s court i feel strongly about this. first episode a sort of bizarre womanless church of a court with a king wandering around barefoot in rags and the girls in the maidenvault. in my blackfyre rebellion show we’re doing themes about women and themes about the faith and also prince aegon unworthy breaks daena out and daemon blackfyre is conceived. baelor dies shortly after this maybe bc of shock and horror maybe bc viz ii poisons him i kind of like the latter bc ->

aegon poisons his own dad to get the throne quicker. i would want at least a season of aegon iv reign i want them to do the mistresses and the increasing number of bastards at court properly. aegon psychologically tormenting naerys and aemon and ignoring weakling daeron in favour of his handsome chad bastard son daemon

not the first to say this but i want aemon to also be creepy to naerys but to desperately punch this down bc shes so Good she would be horrified by his affections. daeron isn’t his

aemon and naerys not idealised beautiful arthurian knight and lady i want them to be PALE and SICKLY. drawn and stricken-looking with that pink eye makeup thing they do to the targtowers. aegon comparatively conventionally handsome deteriorates over the season w gout and five million stds

daemy blackfyre charismatic jock kid intentionally similar to young aegon who broke daena out. daeron fucking hatess him once he takes the throne hes taking out his feelings towards his own shitty dad on his shitty dad’s bastard he liked more than him. telling daemon he can’t have two wives bc its wrong and this is the real world and barely able to keep a smile off his face about it when daemon leaves in a huff

focus on barba missy and bethany + the bracken blackwood feud in general. i want barba to be weirdly close w aegor as her perfect royal son her golden ticket connection to the throne

bittersteel focus <- non negotiable for me hbo would neverr do this. in the sense that hes an unmarketably misogynistic homophobic old-gods-hater deeply unpleasant catholic brute in a love triangle where theyre just dating and he has a problem with it. horse girl. keeps throwing tantrums. loser. only guy there without magic powers or blonde hair. manipulating his half brother w the kingsword into usurpation

those cruel intentions promo posters where theyre all draped over each other but its their stupid triangle. shiera makes him and bloodraven kiss for her amusement

Daeron Was Spindly And Round Of Shoulder, With A Little Belly That Wobbled When He Walked. Daemon Stood

“Daeron was spindly and round of shoulder, with a little belly that wobbled when he walked. Daemon stood straight and proud, and his stomach was flat and hard as an oaken shield. And he could fight. With axe or lance or flail, he was as good as any knight I ever saw, but with the sword he was the Warrior himself. When Prince Daemon had Blackfyre in his hand, there was not a man to equal him…”

Daemon I Blackfyre, the Black Dragon, the King Who Bore the Sword

(Wiki said Daemon wore armor of red and black plate, but I thought that making a majority of the armor red would be very striking)

Aegons Bastards Had Been The Bane Of The Seven Kingdoms Ever Since The Old King Died. He Had Legitimized

Aegon’s bastards had been the bane of the Seven Kingdoms ever since the old king died. He had legitimized the lot upon his deathbed; not only the Great Bastards like Bloodraven, Bittersteel, and Daemon Blackfyre, whose mothers had been ladies, but even the lesser ones he’d fathered on whores and tavern wenches, merchant’s daughters, mummer’s maidens, and every pretty peasant girl who chanced to catch his eye. Fire and Blood were the words of House Targaryen, but Dunk once heard Ser Arlan say that Aegon’s should have been Wash Her and Bring Her to My Bed. (The Sworn Sword)

In this manner did the First Blackfyre Rebellion begin, in the year 196 AC. Reversing the colors of the traditional Targaryen arms to show a black dragon on a red field, the rebels declared for Princess Daena’s bastard son Daemon Blackfyre, First of His Name, proclaiming him the eldest true son of King Aegon IV, and his half brother Daeron the bastard.

TARGARYEN WEEK Day 6: Favorite Family Dynamic - THE GREAT BASTARDS

While on his deathbed, Aegon legitimized his bastards and placed them in his line of succession after his firstborn, Daeron II.

Daemon Blackfyre

Daemon I Blackfyre, born Daemon Waters, was the bastard son of Princess Daena Targaryen and King Aegon IV Targaryen. Daemon when denied Princess Daenerys he rose up and  swayed half the kingdom to support his claim to the Iron Throne against King Daeron II in a war called the Blackfyre Rebellion. He was the first and greatest of the Blackfyre Pretenders.

Aegor ‘Bittersteel’ Rivers

Ser Aegor Rivers, often called Bittersteel, was a renowned knight. In the First Blackfyre Rebellion, Aegor sided with Daemon against King Daeron II.  Bittersteel fled Westeros after Daemon’s death at the end of the rebellion to the Free City of Tyrosh.  Aegor founded the Golden Company, a famous mercenary organization, to stop the loss of support for the Blackfyres.

Brynden ‘Bloodraven’ Rivers

Lord Brynden Rivers, called “Lord Bloodraven”. Brynden was a Targaryen loyalist during the Blackfyre Rebellions, the Hand of Aerys I and Maekar I Targaryen, and Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Shiera Seastar, another bastard of Aegon IV, was his mistress. His half-brother Aegor “Bittersteel” Rivers desired Shiera also, which served in increasing the enmity between the two. Bloodraven was thought to be a sorcerer. He disappeared while ranging beyond the Wall in 252 AC. He is discovered to be The Three-Eyed Raven by Bran Stark.

Shiera Seastar

Shiera Seastar was the last of the Great Bastards of King Aegon IV Targaryen.  Shiera never married, but took many lovers, and numerous duels were fought for her favor. Her half-brother Brynden Rivers repeatedly proposed marriage to her. Although she refused to marry him, she did share her bed with him.Her other half-brother Bittersteel, was said to have also desired her, which only served to increase the hatred between Bloodraven and Bittersteel. There were rumors that she bathed in the blood of maidens to retain her beauty.

Daemon was the name Daena gave to this child, for Prince Daemon had been the wonder and the terror of his age, and in later days that was seen as a warning of what the boy would become.

You know one of the things that saddens me the most about the dance (other than the deaths of my faves and it's general outcome) Is the extinction of dragons.

There were such majestic creatures and it really hurts to see them die out like that. But I then I start thinking about how the future would have turned out with dragons still alive and...

Aerys II with a dragon?

The battle of the Trident but Rhaegar has a dragon? (Actually, since he descends from a Targaryen princess, Bobby B could also have a dragon if he managed to claim one and that's equally terrifying.)

Actually, with dragons on their side the Mad King would have won the war 100% and basically all of our faves would have died or never been born.

The blackfyre rebellions but both sides have dragons? Shit, that'd be a second dance.

Aegon IV with a dragon? ( No wait nevermind , he'd be too fat to get on it anyway)

Suddenly I'm so glad these Targs never had the chance to get their nasty hands on them.

Sorry Morning, but I'm kind of glad you were the last one.

“But in recent years, it has occured to me from time to time that it might have made for an interesting twist if instead I had made the dragonlords of Valyria, and therefore the Targaryens black….if I’d had dark-skinned dragonlords invade and conquer and dominate a largely white Westeros… though that choice would have brought its own perils. The Targaryens have not all been heroic, after all… some of them have been monsters, madmen, so…Well, it’s all moot. The idea came to me about twenty years too late.”
