OK TIME FOR A NERD RANT!!!!!! Gabriel Is Talking Utter Bullshit!!!! I Love Both The New Diverse Characters

OK TIME FOR A NERD RANT!!!!!! Gabriel is talking utter bullshit!!!! I love both the new diverse characters and the old classics, every month i buy the latest issues of Spider-man, Champions, Avengers, Spider Gwen and my absoulute favourite super heroine ; Ms Marvel! All my fellow comic book fans that i’m friends with love these books and critics do to.

It’s idiotic to say that Female centred books are to blame for poor sales seeing as The Mighty Thor (Jane Foster version) sells waaaaaaaaaay more than her Odinson counterpart, that Wolverine (Laura/X23) is more popular than ever and that Ms Marvel (Kamala Khan) is constantly a best seller both digitally and physically!

And so what if some of the new characters are not white? So what if they’re gay? So what if they have a diffrent faith? These stories are about heroes and not all heroes are going to be thirty/forty something white dudes.

What’s hurting Marvel sales are there Crappy events like Civil War II and Monsters unleashed….ok nerd RANT over!

𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗞𝗜𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 💐

The Selkie in Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian folklore is a woman of the ocean who lives inside of a seal's skin. If a man were to find her skin after she took it off to sunbathe she would be his wife. But if she were to find her skin again she would go back to the ocean, free. This was the founder, Kimberly Gordon's, favourite folklore tale growing up. To her the story represented a woman, any woman, finding and being comfortable with her own skin and being free in it and the brand has been modelled after these ideals. Selkie was founded in the fall of 2018 as a ready-to-wear brand for women who just wanted something 'fanciful, nostalgic and extremely romantic.'

SELKIE SPRING 2023 was added onto NYFW. The main theme was 'UNICORN.' The runway itself included a wide variety of body sizes and shapes, a multitude of ethnicities and ages and it also included those with disabilities onto the runway. In my opinion, it is a statement saying that anyone can be a model and the models themselves looked like they were actually enjoying themselves with big smiles and theatrics.

I'm glad that this runway and brand is gaining lots of traction because it is a brand which genuinely cares about the inclusivity of everyone.

The lead makeup artist was Danessa Myricks, and their talented friend Linh Nguyen was leading the hair. The show was styled by Alisha Silverstein with Kimberley Gordon and Justine Babb. It was produced by Emily Bungert and cast by Julia Samersova with Kimberley Gordon.

Handbags, including pastels and original jewellery like effervescent unicorn crowns and butterfly bustiers, were made in collaboration with Stonehart for this specific runway.

𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗠𝗬 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗙𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦

That's all. Thank you for letting me rant on about a brand that really like.

See you soon,

Sithu 🌸

So I Was Watching “Murder Drones” And Something Hit Me.

Doll Is Russian, Right? Because What, The Fuck?

Why Do They Never Explain That? It’s Just-

Was She “Born” Russian? Did Her Parents Speak Russian? Did The Solver Teach Her? (CAN It Teach Her?!)

I Guess What I Mean To Say Is; Are Language’s Diverse On Copper-9? Because If So, That’s So Cool, And We Need To See More Of That Diversity!

Speaking Of;

Can Worker Drones Also Have Heterochromia? That’d Be Nice To See! Probably Won’t Though..

Do They Have Special Needs?

What Kinda Jobs Do They Have? (Besides The Stated)

We Need To Know More About Worker Drones Damnit!

So I Was Watching Murder Drones And Something Hit Me.

This is it. Finally, an ETHNICALLY BEAUTIFUL Southeast-Asian who has managed to break through and transcend the barriers of this ridiculously racist industry. Man, I’ve got nothing but love and admiration for these Asian models but it’s kinda sad at the same time because most, if not all of them, have the Eurasian and classic East Asian look. IDK if that even makes sense, but that’s the way I see it. I’m not trying to take anything away from them though.  What makes this sweeter is that she’s a Filipina. Marga Esquivel, everybody. ♥

While I definitely understand not enjoying bad plotlines, there's still a pretty hefty gap between the kinds of people seen as heroes in comics and nerd culture and the world we live in. It trends toward white, heterosexual men. And that's just not the world we live in.

So people make a fuss. They want more stories with PoC characters, with women, with gay/lesbian/transgender people.

Sometimes the stories they get aren't as good as they could be. But that doesn't mean the diversity is the problem. The problem is the writing and the diversity is the straw man.

Nobody's thrilled with the idea of Nazi Captain America, but I haven't seen a lot of people calling to bring back Sam Wilson (Falcon, who had taken up the Captain America shield before this). Whereas if you cast Spider-Man as a Latino kid, all of a sudden people want Peter Parker back.

There are plenty of great writers who write diversity well. Just because we haven't been pleased with the results yet doesn't mean we throw out new ideas. Challenging yourself to write beyond your comfort zone is hard and scary. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop asking for it nor that it can't provide us with tremendous, emotionally charged pieces of fiction in the future.

Bunch of white straight dudes mock the need for “safe spaces” but flip their goddamn shit when minorities say stuff like “hey maybe we can be included in stuff like scifi/fantasy stuff”, saying stuff like “I PLAY GAMES/READ COMICS/BOOKS/WATCH MOVIES TO GET AWAY FROM ALL THIS PC CULTURE BULLSHIT, SO INCLUDING WOMEN OR LGBT OR POC IS JUST PUSHING AN AGENDA AND IT’S NOT FAIR TO US”…

… So who exactly is demanding that the entire world be THEIR “safe space” again?

LUNCH OVER TUMBLR

I wonder if mutuals would recommend something over lunch.

Most of the trips that I've made highlighted rising bills in fast food and smaller sizes of edible goodies. Labels in similar categories have clearly striking identical trends, so deciding between a pair is much easier than it used to be.

l'amour at lunch! a rider telling tales of places and gems through song? who knows? things can work better, but seeing as biz is so busy and pushes past most factual and literal criticism ( and fable too), getting things to work better may be tricky.

 LUNCH OVER TUMBLR

The favorite mutual, who sells seashells by the seashores, is quick to turn on the waterworks! Mutual also gets picky over stylists, fruit and everything else you could think of. If the waiter gets an order for blackberries, but by accident mixed things up and served cranberries instead? lunch would be over in an instant!

** WATERWORKS **

 LUNCH OVER TUMBLR

Meanwhile I'd recommend something out of the comfort zone, we'd try to take turns around new, slightly nervous, stuffing. We might whoosh through because we both like to make an entrance! Fortune guiding us both, birds of some diversity and adventuring feathers.

PHI IS JUST A RATIO

9/30 So this girl named Jasmine stops by the therapist's office. He is surprised to see her and can't help wondering "jasmine? last person I thought would check in" and she's all "oh it's nothing there's just this little question."

 PHI IS JUST A RATIO

She continues to explain how she regularly gets mistaken as another person everywhere she goes. on the carpets, she swears people think she's kyla. And at events, they want to take photos with keke. she wanted it to stop. Later she realized if people needed someone else, then she could make someone else the star.

 PHI IS JUST A RATIO

The therapist frowns. not because others now think they've nailed it, but because fans usually hang out far away from reality. The therapist slowly replies about weird things happening for a reason, and in addition, there's no reason to be right about everything all the time. She rolls her eyes and seems bummed out by that explanation.

"uh that can't be right, at least a professional should agree. mm, berries!! I mean, facts , right? otherwise anything could be a hoax! and the wasps could come out of hiding! there's a good chance of that."

 PHI IS JUST A RATIO

Jasmine then shows off cat skills to the amazement of her therapist. Weeks afterwards she receives a cat-figurine in the mail. Along with the kitty cat comes some flyers, which covered medical prescriptions tackling cat-related non-binary needs. She tears them all up easily, and binges Young Rock instead.

 PHI IS JUST A RATIO

Quick rant on Mulan 2

Okay I know Mulan 2 is a 15-year-old sequel to a classic and this post is on my trash blog of inspirational quotes and multi fandom memes and random jokes so it couldn’t be more irrelevant but I’m riled up.

So the plot of this movie, Mulan and Shang get engaged and have to escort three princesses to have arranged marriages in order to save China. On the way, a lot goes down and in the end nobody goes through the arranged marriage because love is all that matters. Not to bash love, I love love, I’m here to bash Disney. They made a Chinese movie about America and as a minority American this upset me.

I know individualism is the shit and we should all follow our dreams and capitalism is godliness but that’s not how China is run. It’s a communist country that’s been run by dictators for millennia. Regardless of how the princesses felt (they seemed reluctant from the beginning to have arranged marriages), they would have gone through with it. They wouldn’t have cared that it was arranged, since that was the norm, and they wouldn’t have felt bad for themselves because this is their duty.

In the story, Mulan says her duty is to her heart. I can’t say I didn’t smile when I heard that, having been raised in Disney. But this is very American. Duty in Asian culture is above all to your family, and then to your religion and country, and then anything left can be yours.

So I have no issue with American ideals, and I don’t think Asian ones are better. There are huge issues with both, and also huge advantages. The issue here is that this was a Chinese movie about America. Make a Chinese movie about China, you cowards. We would do well to learn more about a global superpower we are in debt to. Diversity of ideas with the characters’ skin, that’s all I’m saying.

Rant over, thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Yoshi-p and Xenophobia in gaming

Final Fantasy 16 Has No Business Abiding By Historical Realism
TheGamer
The series has never been about the real world, so why start now?

Ff16 is causing a buzz online due to its producer Naoki Yoshida defending the game's lack of diversity under the guise of " Historical realism ". Ah yes, the game where you can summon mythical beasts and cast magic spells is so deeply trenched in realism. Naoki's statements are outright xenophobic even if he didn't intend them to be as such. He's reinforcing the idea that people of color have no place in fantasy worlds and that their existence is somehow more esoteric than literal dragons. I never knew we were so special that we outshine all manner of Mythical Gods and monsters just by breathing.

Even if you want to but into the historical accuracy nonsense, various articles online provide proof of Africans living in medieval England so there's no need to have such a vanilla white cast. Perhaps Naoki should do his research before making outrageous claims. Black people have existed in Europe for while now. We've been here and yet he acts as if we don't exist. Don't y'all ever get tired of making all white fantasy games anyway? A little melanin here and there never killed anyone. Well, except for Mihoyo because they avoid the color brown like its poison. It's crazy how they made two regions based on South Asia and the Middle East with no dark skin characters in sight. And no, using the absolute lightest shade of brown possible doesn't count as representation. Even real life white people have darker tans than the Genshin Impact cast.

Sumeru NPCs Don't Fix Genshin Impact's Whitewashing Problem
ScreenRant
Genshin Impact's whitewashing problem persists.

It's gotten to the point that a small number of fans are boycotting ff16 in the name of diversity. Similar to Hogwarts Legacy, I don't believe it's a good idea to boycott a game simply because of a disagreeable opinion from the staff. Boycotting won't change anything or inspire Naoki to do better. The best thing to do is to call out Naoki's Ideology and state why diversity is so important in media. Developers and Producers need to be made aware of how their actions affect their fans, particularly fans of color. POC have every right to exist in the world of fantasy.

Screenshot of a tweet that reads: Yknow what I’d like to see as an illustrator?

A database of cultural clothes/items submitted by people within those cultures with info like how often its used and reference photos

It would make diversity in art so much easier

Is there something like that??

tweet

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

ah, don't mind me, just sobbing over here...

representation matters so so so very much♡♡♡

ES POR ESTO QUE LA REPRESENTACIÓN ES IMPORTANTE

THIS IS WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS

[trans]

Interviewer: Your speech and your mission have always been worthy representation and respect above all. Especially about equal opportunities for the "moreno" (brown) people, for racialised people, not only from Mexico but from all of Latin America, from all over the world. And now you're here. You're K'uk'ulkaan, you're Namor, you're a Funko (toy). You're all that.

Tenoch: Ah, huevo! (kinda like "oh, god" / "oh, yeah", happily)

Interviewer: So, what do you think it'll mean for representation in Latin America and Mexico, for all of us who are getting this important message?

Tenoch: The only thing I want is that the next time boys and girls look at themselves in the mirror they feel proud of that reflection. That they see there was never anything wrong with them but rather with the eyes that judged them. If that happens, I've made it.

Interviewer: Thank you so much.

(They hug. The interviewer's been rather emotional the whole time but now they start to really cry.)

Tenoch: It hurts, dude, doesn't it? But we're going to begin healing. (He gives the interviewer a kiss on the forehead)

The thing about this whole annabeth casting and white/ blondes being angry, is that black girls are literally thought up as dumb because of skin color. In fact if they gave black annabeth blonde extensions or something it would fit more with the idea of her having to overcome prejudice as (1) a black woman (2) one who chooses to have an "unnatural" hair color- even though black people can have blonde hair. "Blonde need to work 2x as hard to be taken seriously"? Yea and black women need to work 100x harder to be taken seriously, so stop whining. It sounds like a whole lotta white feminism and y'all need to sit down and watch legally blonde or something. 🙄
