dorne & house martell week: day 5 - favorite quote | ellaria sand’s rebuke of revenge
Oberyn wanted vengeance for Elia. Now the three of you want vengeance for him. I have four daughters, I remind you. Your sisters. My Elia is fourteen, almost a woman. Obella is twelve, on the brink of maidenhood. They worship you, as Dorea and Loreza worship them. If you should die, must El and Obella seek vengeance for you, then Dorea and Loree for them? Is that how it goes, round and round forever? I ask again, where does it end? I saw your father die. Here is his killer. Can I take a skull to bed with me, to give me comfort in the night? Will it make me laugh, write me songs, care for me when I am old and sick?

Princess Arianne strode to the litter on snakeskin sandals laced up to her thighs. Her hair was a mane of jet-black ringlets that fell to the small of her back, and around her brow was a band of copper suns. She is still a little thing, the captain thought.

“Unless she returns to Dorne, there’s naught I can do about Sarella save pray that she shows more sense than her sisters. Leave her to her… game.”
Sunspear’s history is a curious one. Having been little more than the squat, ugly keep called the Sandship in early days under the Martells, beautiful towers bearing all the hallmarks of Rhoynish fashion would eventually spring up around it. It became known as Sunspear when the sun of the Rhoyne was wedded to the spear of the Martells. In time, the Tower of the Sun and the Spear Tower were both constructed—the great golden dome of the one, and the slender, high spire of the other becoming the first things that visitors beheld by land or by sea. ♦ requested by dalekofchaos

Confession Jaime and Myrcella
note: I put off writing this story because I thought we might see it in the show, but looks we are not getting it A03
Jaime paced his cell, it was beautiful and ornate, filled with the bright oranges and yellows associated with Dorne, but it was still a prison cell. Myrcella had come to see him previously, he had asked to speak with her again. She did not understand the situation, how could she, she was little more than a child, although she had grown considerably since he last saw her. Obliviously trying to force her removal hadn’t worked. Jaime turned things over and over in his head, he concluded that the best course of action would be to tell Myrcella the truth. She claimed she was in love, so perhaps she could understand the past actions of Cersei and himself.
The door opened, and Myrcella floated in dressed in a diaphanous pink gown. She reminded reminded him of Cersei at that age, but there was a difference about her that made her uniquely her own person.
“Good morning uncle Jaime” she greeted.
“Good Morning Myrcella. Please have a seat” he indicated the divan “we should have a talk.”
“I don’t think there is much else to discuss” she insisted, but gave in and sat down. Jaime chose a wooden spindly chair across from her, it wasn’t very comfortable, but there was a lack of options unless he sat on the bed, which didn’t seem appropriate. He was not sure where to begin. He decided that the best tactic would be to find out what she already knew.
“Myrcella I don’t know what you’ve heard, before you came here or while you have been in Dorne. Stannis made some accusations against your mother and I”
“The letter uncle Stannis sent? Yes I heard the rumors, but mother said they were all filthy lies, and I should ignore them. Uncle Stannis was just trying to take the throne away from Joffrey.”
“Well, you see, Stannis wasn’t lying.”
“I don’t understand” she said, her face scrunched in confusion.
“Myrcella, your mother and I...” he didn’t know how to explain this, so he blurted out “ Myrcella, I’m your father.”
“No. No” she yelled jumping up from the divan and backing away from him. “My father was King Robert. He gave me a pony when I was five, he called me his little Princess.”
“I know that is what you were lead to believe.”
“How could anyone possibly know that I was or wasn’t father’s child?”
“You must have wondered why none of you looked like Robert.”
“Most girls look like their mothers.” He noticed she didn’t mention Joffrey and Tommen’s resemblance to Cersei and himself.
“That may be true, but your mother has assured me that is it so.”
“How could she?”
“There are ways Myrcella.”
“I don’t want to hear this” she said turning away and staring out the window into the bright sunshine.
“I know you don’t, but I needed to tell you so you are aware of the danger, and you can comprehend why others are so against our family.” She spun around.
“If it is such a danger to our family why did you do it?”
“I loved your mother. We were in love for many years.”
“You can’t be in love with your sister. I was never in love with Joffrey or Tommen.”
“That is true in most cases, but your mother and I were different.”
“And because you loved my mother it was okay to let another man think your children were his.” Jaime cringed.
“Perhaps not, but it was the only decision we could make at the time.”
“Really? You could have left mother and father alone.”
“Your mother and I loved each other. We wanted to be together, but she had to marry Robert it was arranged. You claim you love this Prince Trystane, wouldn’t you want to be with him no matter what?” She paused for a moment. Her eyes got a far away look.
“I don’t know. I don’t think I’d want to share him with anyone else” she admitted softly. He hadn’t wanted to share Cersei either. It was quiet for a moment, than he noticed her eyes filling with tears.
“I am Princess Myrcella of the house Baratheon. If I am not that, I am no one.” Jaime went to her, laying a hand her shoulder, trying to comfort her.
“Your a Lannister.”
“No I’m not, if I am your daughter I am nothing but a nameless bastard” he could hear the pain in her voice, “and a nameless bastard can not marry a Prince of Dorne.” The tears streamed down her face as she fled the room.
“Myrcella wait” but she was gone. However, Jaime thought he could still hear the faint sound of her crying in the distance.
“He is only one man. A man with a very high opinion of his own abilities, but one man, nonetheless. He cannot withstand the force of the crown by himself. As I have had to remind him many, many times.”

Oberyn was a fuckin amazing character and he didn't deserve to die :"(
I think it's okay for people to cast Tyene as white. She even says "White suits my colouring. I look so ... pure." Yes, she is half Rhoynar, but half andal. My father is PoC, and my mother is white. My best friend is also like this, and people never believe our dad's are PoCs. With Tyene, although she is Rhoynar, she is described as more white/andal looking. Which is why I think it's okay to cast her as a white FC. What do you think?
No. By casting Tyene as white you are whitewashing her.
We don’t actually know whether or not Tyene is half Andal, her mother could have been a Stony Dornish woman and that would have made Tyene a POC on both sides of her biological equation. However, despite what her mother is, Tyene is still a person of colour because her father is. Being biracial is a thing.
Fun fact: people who appear white can be POC too. My best friend is Lebanese and he looks completely white. I thought he was white upon meeting him. His cousins and nephews are blond and they look white as well. But guess what? He’s not white, nor is he considered such.
Just because you don’t look like a person of colour does not mean you aren’t one. Look at these women. They are both women of colour and yet they appear to be white.
Looking white does not mean you’re not a POC and it definitely is not okay to cast somebody who is white for a character who is a person of colour.Do you call Zayn Malik white because one of his parents are white? No. So don’t do that to Tyene either.
would gabriella wilde be a suitable fc for tyene sand?
Hi!
So first off, this is the description for Tyene from A Feast for Crows:
“She is fair, with golden hair, blue eyes and an almost otherworldly innocence about her.”
Hence I can definitely see where you’re coming from, however, Gabriella Wilde is not an appropriate choice for Tyene and for that matter, neither is any other caucasian actress.
Despite the fact that her description matches that of a white person’s, Tyene herself is person of colour and by casting her as a fully white woman you would be white-washing her and erasing her heritage. From what is known about Tyene’s parentage, she is the bastard daughter of Oberyn Martell, a person of colour, and a septa whose race is unknown. Therefore she is still a person of colour due to the fact that her father is canonically so.
Choosing a more appropriate FC for her honestly depends on whether you want to follow the show and cast a Latino actress as her. I, however, would largely recommend that you cast a Middle Eastern or South Asian actress for her as Dorne and House Martell are influenced by the Moors and fanart of it that GRRM had picked himself strongly depicts Middle Eastern and South Asian influences.
These are some potential alternatives for Tyene:
Pelin Karahan is a Turkish actress and my personal favourite choice for Tyene. She also matches Tyene’s physical description.
Ashika Pratt is a New Zealand model and although she does not match Tyene’s physical description, she is of the appropriate race.
Katrina Kaif is an Indian actresses and again, she does not fit Tyene’s physical description but she is half Indian and half caucasian
Many other Turkish actresses also fit Tyene’s description.
calling tyene sand white instead of mixed because of her fair colouring, is a big fat fuck you to poc’s{whether mixed or not} who are fair, telling them that their heritage doesn’t matter because they aren’t dark xoxo
Sand Snakes {1/8} : Tyene Sand
“Despite the variances in their birthmothers and appearances, they are all said to have their father’s eyes."
Daughter of a septa. Tyene is closest of all the Sand Snakes to her cousin Arianne. She is known to have skills in herbcraft and poison, and is regarded as treacherous, while maintaining a sweet and pious persona. She is fair, blue-eyed and blonde.
The most realistic parent/child relationship in the books in Doran and Arianne. like the pure lack of...✨communication✨ and the pure abundance of ✨frustration✨

A Welcome to Dorne
The Yellow Toad of Dorne knew they were coming. The moment the sky cried out a thunderous roar, she knew that they were upon Sunspear. The ground shook briefly. They had landed. Still, she did not move from her seat. They would see her on her throne as her subjects had done before.
Hollow steps approached the throne room. The doors creaked open.
“Who are you?” a voice demanded.
She did not reply. The tone was already testing her temper.
“Where are the guards? The servants? Or is this an ambush?” the voice asked. “If it is, Meraxes is waiting outside, unless you wish this castle to be burned to the ground, I would advise against it.”
She hummed. “You’re one of his consorts, aren’t you?”
“I am the wife of the future King Aegon, Rhaenys Targaryen.”
“Ah, the second one.”
“You’ve heard of us.”
“Here and there amongst the usual ramble of attempted invaders.”
“There is nothing usual about us.”
“So, I’ve heard. You have a different kind of weapon…a living one.”
“Our dragons have already defeated the Lord of High Garden, the Stormlands, the Riverlands, and the Isles, that is not to mention the submission of House Stark, Arryn, and Lannister. We have conquered most of Westeros. Would you count that as usual?”
“You believe a few bent knees are worth anything?”
“Those bent knees have welcomed us into the continent.”
“Some plots of land and six divided unruly kingdoms, what a prize you’ve won.”
“We’re looking to make it seven.”
The Toad smiled—a cruel smile.
“We both know what I’m here for”, Rhaenys said. “I will give you the same choice as the others, bend the knee or else.”
“I’m afraid, I can’t barely sit up, much less bend a knee.”
“Do you think this is a jest?”
“Hardly, if it were I would be laughing.”
“Who do you think you are?”
The old woman frowned. “I am Princess Meria of House Martell, ruler of Dorne.”
“Former ruler”, Rhaenys added.
“You are on my land, my lady. Not yours. Your blood does not flow into the sand of these desserts. Your ancestor’s hands didn’t build these castles. You hold nothing to this place.”
“I intend to change that.”
“I will not fight you, nor will I kneel to you. Dorne has no king. Tell your brother that.”
“I shall but we will come again, Princess and the next time we shall come with fire and blood.”
“Your words. Ours are Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. You may burn us my lady…but you will not bend us, break us, or make us bow. This is Dorne. You are not wanted here. Return at your own peril.”
A deadly silence fell over the throne room. The same hollow footsteps eventually began walking toward the doors. They creaked open before shutting close.
Moments went by before hushed steps went across the marble floor.
“Princess, are you alright?” the timid voice of a servant asked.
Meria turned her head. The young girl had stayed despite her orders.
The girl went to her side. “She’s one of them, those Dragonriders. She’ll come back again, won’t she?”
“She will.”
“What will we do? She flies on a dragon.”
“Do you fear little birds because they can fly?”
“No?”
“We hunt them, don’t we? They can soar above in the air yet we can still hunt them.”
“Yes, with arrows but they aren’t the same, dragons breathe fire”, the girl insisted.
“And birds can peck your eyes out. Just because something can fly doesn’t mean they are invincible.”
“But then how can we kill them? They’ll return to try and conquer Dorne.”
Meria crossed her hands together. She neither smiled nor frowned. “Then we’ll have to shoot this little bird out of the sky.”
Technically not part of Martell week but I'm glad it fell on it :) Lowkey dedicated to @martellspear
For some reason I keep hearing people say “If I was in the dance I would be a noble lady from House *insert house* and I would get with *insert character*” or “I would support/fight for *insert team*”. Guys I'm being so for real, I'm avoiding that crap at all costs.
Me at the border of Dorne (cause they didn't get involved at all):
