I just had a small epiphany why you might like other people's art more than your own:

It's the lack of suspension of disbelief.

When you see something someone else has drawn or painted, you take in the content faster than you take in the technical aspects. You experience it as pseudo-real, the same way you stop perceiving animated characters as drawn or book characters as written as you get into the story.

On the other hand, when you yourself have made something, all you see is the machine behind the theater, so to speak. You're probably thinking about lines, shading, coloring in a "does this make sense? Is this the best decision I could have made?"-kind of way.

I think that's also why sometimes, pictures you haven't looked at for a long time starts looking nice to you again, à la: "Hey past-me was unto something! Why can't I replicate it nowadays?". It's probably specifically because you've forgotten the process of making it that you are now seeing it with fresh eyes.

Art is an illusion, but a magician has a hard time tricking themself. So don't be so hard on yourself: it's probably just that you can't see the magic right now, but that doesn't mean it's not there.

Birthday Presents

When I go out of my way to find the perfect gift before their birthday, I instantly forget the date after finally picking out the right one.

I witnessed peak comedy in college when we watched an uttly serious ww2 documentury about the Freudians who tried to psychoanalyze Hitler for the U.S. government and declared, sans any sort of irony, that even though Hitlers' father verifiably beat him black and blue and left him for dead, the true cause of his omnicidal tendancies was that his mother might have theoretically scolded him for wetting the bed maybe.

My cousin just called Fifty Shades of Grey romantic. Did we read the same series? Because i suffered through the worst of that series just to see how it ended. And i must say Hannibal is more of a gentleman than Christian Grey ever was. Though as not to judge a movie by its book,  i am going to give the movie a fair shot. Openmind. Or maybe I’m just going to judge it. Same difference.

@cheshiresmoon Honestly, wow. Just because you think you know everything about everything doesn't mean you should spout off about it in the internet and try to make other people feel stupid. Sure, getting small amounts of acrylic paint on your skin for short periods of time is most likely harmless but that doesn't mean people should start covering themselves head to toe with it for hours or days at a time. We're talking about our health here. Who knows what the effects of prolonged exposure like that could cause? Especially if someone does it on a regular basis. Please think before you post something so ignorant. Health is more important than saving a few dollars.

this tutorial is from pinterest (originally tumblr though i think) and you should not be following it. 

this goes out to all the kids just starting cosplaying and anyone else who might not know better - you should never be putting anything that isn’t strictly skin-safe onto your body. that means fabric paint, acrylics - none of that. it is not meant for skin coverage. the one exception is PAX paint, which is acrylic mixed with medical grade adhesive. if you want a VERY long lasting water proof paint, look up a recipe for that. 

things that arent meant for skin coverage can have a variety of adverse reactions. cosplay is not worth getting super sick over, especially when you have better alternatives.
