The comments and anon messages I got on the Sam vs. Cas poll. "Cas fans never cook poll results! Prove it!" Reblogs here literally bribing people to vote with offers of fanart. Lol.

Also, one of these characters was straight up canonically eating pussy and loving women. The other one said he loved a guy once and it wasn't even declared as romantic until after the show ended.

Watch the rest of us be unsurprised if y'all manage to drag Cas's ass over the finish line.

Gayest Supernatural Character, Semi-Finals

Thank you to @heraldssrest for providing the image of Cas, it made me cackle.

Pisses me off when people go, "How can you like them both equally if you're always defending Sam?" Like Sam isn't hated by spn fans in a way that isn't even comparable.

Dean's the fandom favorite. Obviously, I'd have to come to Sam's defense more. Use your brain.

If you go into a fic with a pairing you don’t like, and you give the writer shit for not writing about the pairing you like, you’re hot garbage and you should never be allowed to participate in fandom again.

ā€˜NOOOO WHERE IS MY (Insert ship)’ SHUT UP.

ā€˜BOO! YOU’RE HOMOPHOBIC FOR NOT SHIPPING (insert ship)’ FUCK OFF

ā€˜BUT I WANTED (Insert ship)’ I DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU WANT, WRITE YOUR OWN DAMN FIC

ā€˜YOU CAN’T SHIP (insert ship) BECAUSE (Insert ship) IS CANON’ DO I LOOK LIKE I CARE?

So let me get this straight...

People were upset when unpopular blogs started popping up and people began sharing their negative opinions on Sanders Sides and the Sanders himself, right?

Even going as far as to disregard actual, legitimate concerns brought up by people who have either been hurt by Thomas or the people speaking up for them...

Because none of y'all wanna actually argue against someone when they're bringing up a good point that you can't twist to make them look worse than the guy you're blindly defending. Right?

So when we all moved into a Discord server to talk about our gripes privately, among a group of people we trusted, where we weren't hurting anyone and spent more time just chatting casually with each other about our lives...

Y'all got upset again and went on to try and be some kind of "knight in shining armor" by going into this server, taking screenshots of conversations you weren't a part of, then stick them onto Thomas's apology with no actual context, then act like you were personally doing him a favor as if he would come and thank you for bringing this to light.

So really, I'm just confused. Do you want us to be more public about our thoughts? Is talking about them among ourselves privately in a server that was easy to avoid if you didn't want to be part of it less preferable?

Heck, I'd think you'd rather us talk publicly given how much trouble you went through to get those screenshots. Could have saved you some more time if you had just looked at our blogs.

All this to say, buddy, the block button is there for a reason. If you don't want to hear what we have to say then you, along with everyone else, are more than welcome to use it. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to see anything on my blog.

If it bothers you that much, then just do what anyone else would and block us then move on.

You've already blocked my friends that you have no problem slandering on here. Why not take the next step and move along?

It's okay to enjoy different ending including ascension for Astarion and god gale

I have been seeing comments about how people are afraid of choosing and enjoying ascended Astarion or God gale ending because they are scared of ridicule, scared of being 'wrong' and afraid of offending abuse victim because they have seen so many negative discourse against those endings for Astarion and Gale.

Let me tell you, YOU ARE NOT an abuse enabler or offending abuse victim just because you like those endings, the people who accused you directly or indirectly of being wrong, evil or "too dumb to understand the narrative" or "delusional" are nothing but fandom police who try to manipulate and bend people to do what they wanted with fear using pseudo progressive language. They don't like content for ascendant Astarion and god gale so they wanted it gone

They do it like cult leader trying to control the population. And this is not a problem that is exclusive to bg3 only. It happening in many fandom. "I don't like this so I have to control people to not like this as well." This is the real abuse, this is the real manipulation tactic

What's matter in fandom is you having fun, not bending over to what the majority or some people wanted. Your moral and self worth shouldn't be tied to fandom and fandom discourse . You are fine, don't be scared of choosing different ending for these DnD blorbos

All the speech about concerning over moral or abuse is not real, it's just people on the internet doesn't like something and try to influence other to not like it as well. This also extended to ship

Yeah I agree 100%, over time the Next Gen fandom (post Cursed Child especially) has gotten unnecessarily aggressive about Commonly Accepted Canon about characters who have either two lines of canon dialogue or none at all. I feel like back in 2012-2015 it was a really nice time for Next Gen, you could have whatever versions of the characters you wanted, there were so many different interpretations, Scorbus, Scorlily and Scorose ships were all thriving and no one gave you shit about anything. I don't mean to say Everything Was All Hunky-Dory but people were pretty much chill. Now, though, I kind of have moved away from writing Next Gen because people are so aggressive about their fanon characterizations (especially for Scorpius and Albus). Now it's like you must ship Scorbus and LilyxLysander (do they have a name?) OR ELSE you are a bad, terrible person.

You do you, @firinniee, Next Gen is supposed to be a chill sandbox for creators to play in, not to be bossed around by people who think fanon = canon.

I don't like to write about such things, but I expected that sooner or later I would get a message like this here. Namely, anon wrote a comment to me (which I will not paste because I would have to censor about 90% of it) because, to put it bluntly - he/she does not like Rose x Lysander ship and thinks that I should remove all my content with that opinion. Well ok, we live in a time when someone cannot have a headcanons for characters whose name and surname are practically the only thing that new. I love the overall creation of Lily, Rose, Lysander or other nex gen characters that are often based on a similar pattern in the fandom and in that case I love reading about some of the ships but I think that MY VISION OF LYSANDER fits MY VISION OF ROSE more than MY VISION OF LILY in MY universe but that doesn't mean I don't like Lily and Lys in others. Like, if someone does not like my work, they do not have to watch it, I will continue to enjoy every person who watches, writes nice comments, likes it, gives hearts and such an anon will have peace tho.

I don’t understand why Jupiter Ascending is bashed so much. The plot has its flaws (especially the ending) but it’s an enjoyable and memorable movie with incredible visuals.

villain discourse is so annoying.

every once in a while when i scroll through the notes on a post about a villain or antagonist who's a fandom favourite, the notes are filled with 'but you know he killed people, right... killing people is bad... if you think this fictional guy is cool and funny and iconic then you're basically a hybristophile because they're a serial killer. you're normalizing serial killers omg. murder is baddddd'

yes, i know that murder is bad, i'm not six months old. and excuse me? it's giving 'women will read books and get ideas' which is maybe not far off because most fic writers and readers are female, and the stereotypical fanfic writer is a teenage girl.

besides, literature and drama always loved the bad guy. re: greek tragedies, crime and punishment, etc. i think everyone on tumblr needs to read some actual books for once.

so many people have this disney-fied, marvel-i-fied idea of what storytelling is, they believe that every story has to be an aesop's fable and adhere to the hays code.

if you're looking to fiction for a moral compass instead of (sometimes ugly!) truths about the human condition, you're looking in the wrong place.

following up on this, i believe this is (part of the reason) why so many fans of villainous characters end up woobifying said characters. time and time again, the backstories of villains or antagonists are dramatized for maximum whump, their agency is stripped away, and their worst choices and actions justified until all the fun stuff is gone and all that is left is a poor hurt woobie who just can't help themselves because everyone around them is evil, abusive, and manipulative and they have no free will. aww, poor baby!

obviously, the woobie is a character utterly divorced from the original/canon version, intensely boring, and always inferior. so why is woobification so common? after all, if all you wanted was a character that made you go 'aww poor baby šŸ’•' wouldn't you have picked a canonical cinnamon roll?

the thing is, people like villains and antagonists because they're bad people, because they're a reflection of what will happen to us if we stop listening to our morality and instead give ourselves over to baser motives. they reflect the worst parts of ourselves. it's cathartic.

however, there's this almost puritan undercurrent in pop culture nowadays, where if you like a character that must mean that you find all of their actions morally correct, which means that if you like a villain, you are an inherently bad person with morally repugnant values. therefore, to like a villain and remain morally pure, the villain must be a hero and their actions, no matter how evil, must be justifiable. the reaction to this dissonance is woobification.

villain discourse is so annoying.

Katang shippers have lost their minds. Imagine obsessing over your ship not happening in the live action series?? The guy playing Aang is a little boy and Kataang shippers want him to be all over Katara in the live action. Why are grown adults wanting to see two minors kiss and be all over each other in this live action instead of enjoying the series? I legit saw grown adults complaining about not seeing enough Kataang action? ex. Kissing.touching more. These people are creepy. I'm not even the biggest Zutara shippers but they aren't saying these creepy things. I don't even hate Kataang but it already happened in the comics and animated series so why are they complaining?

I honestly can’t believe people are still on this. Like wake the fuck up. SIBLING relationships will never get in the way of a ROMANTIC relationship unless that character comes out and says I hate you and am putting myself inbetween and Maddie has NEVER said that. In fact, she joked with Buck about him liking Eddie when she first got there.

Buck hanging out with Maddie, his SISTER HE GREW UP WITH, imagine him spending more time with her than Eddie. Like, what? Buddie isn’t even an established relationship yet. Right now they are just friends. So Buck spending time with Maddie and having such a tight relationship with her, after everything they both been through, makes sense. They are FAMILY and I don’t know about you but if you aren’t in a relationship you usually are going to spend a lot of time with the people who raised you (unless there are circumstances that don’t allow it, not in Buck’s case tho.) ...I mean...shit are you guys saying siblings can’t be close like they were growing up and both have healthy romantic relationships?

Even if you are in a relationship you are still spending time with family. I hope y’all realize if Eddie and Buck ever do get together he’ll be spending just as much time with Maddie as he always has, the only difference is he’s going home with Eddie.

Tv may be fiction but it also mirrors real life and stories that can/have happened. Like, are y’all going out into the world saying this to real life people? I doubt it, so stop saying it here.

Like it’s okay to not like Maddie, everyone has opinions and likes and she may not be your cup of tea and I get that and that might affect how you see the sibling relationship, but there’s a difference from not liking Maddie to purposely putting her down and putting other people down because they like her. Even if you don’t like her, you guys really have to accept that Maddie raised Buck and played a major part in who he is today, and if she hadn’t he probably wouldn’t be the same character all of you are obsessed about.

Lmfao imagine watching Buck Begins and watching Maddie give up her only means for escape and her money that she’s saved so Buck can be happy and get as far away from Hershey as he can, and still trying to demean the importance of her role in his life and their relationship.

The entire arc was him realising Maddie has been protecting him more than he ever thought and him realising that he always played a huge part in her life even when he wasn’t ā€œinā€ it.

Imagine thinking a sibling relationship is any threat to your ship šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I’ve haven’t actually read 9-1-1 fan fiction in a few weeks because like I’ve said before I’ve been way too busy, but I was just scrolling through the list and finally came across the rewritten 2x01 stories I’ve seen people talking about and holy shit…what the actual fuck. Im sorry but 2x01 played out exactly how it should have on the show…maybe the shower scene wasn’t completely needed, but it added a lot of humor in my opinion.

Sorry but Buck very much would have expected the person to be Abby considering it is her apartment he was living in, so why would he call anyone? And for the one person who said Maddie flashing Buck was sexual abuse, wtf, because it most certainly was not. She didn’t even pull the curtain back, Buck did. She literally was hiding behind the shower curtain. I see nothing wrong with Maddie inviting herself in to Buck’s apartment on the fact that they are freaking super close, and that Maddie is on the run from her ABUSIVE husband and scared she’ll look over her shoulder and he’ll be there.

The lack of boundaries and not treating Buck the way he’s supposed to be treated is absolute nonsense, and to me it feels like most of you haven’t lived in a big family before or maybe don’t even have siblings. I get wanting privacy and having certain boundaries that need to be respected, I’m literally such an introvert and need it, but I also grew up in a home with 11 people—grandparents, mom, aunts, siblings, and cousins. You don’t find much peace in such a chaotic home, but I can tell you barging in on people, helping yourself, it’s all apart of it.

When you’re close to someone it doesn’t really matter. My family shows up all the time to each other’s houses with no warning, and hell yeah you better believe if they ain’t home we do invite ourselves in and then wait for them. It’s just how it is. No one minds, and Buck didn’t at all on the show…you know, canon.

Maddie showing up and inviting herself into Buck’s apartment made complete sense to me, even with the 3 years of silence. They have a bond like no other sibling pair.

We get it your a firefighter... doesn’t change the fact that buck was right. buck knew the risk, he accepted the risk that he might bleed out, it’s not Bobby’s right to say he isn’t ready

It was Bobby’s right to say he wasn’t ready to come back because the risk Buck is taking doesn’t only affect Buck. It affects the entire team, and whoever they have to save. He’s not the only one who can get hurt if he’s injured. I bring up the fact that I’m a firefighter to prove a fucking point that I literally had to study this shit day in and day out THREE different times for different certifications. You’ve probably never even attempted to Google if you can be a firefighter on blood thinners, which, as I’ve stated so many times, you can’t.

Anyway, does it really matter? Can we please just finally put this stupid lawsuit behind the like fucking show did? I’m so tired. Soooooooo tired.

It just clicked for me why I find a lot of the fandom discourse these days so distasteful from fans who dislike popular male characters, the sort of discourse that sounds a lot like -

"I'm not like all those other fans who just like the conventionally pretty boys with the sad backstories. That boring, terrible character is only popular because those fans think he's hot! I pick my favorite characters for meaningful and smart reasons, not just because I want to sleep with them."

It's just the, "I'm not like those other girls," narrative, but dressed up in a fandom hat.

Advocating for more diverse characters and stories is great! Talking about the way that popular reception to certain characters/ships can be rooted in misogyny (or racism or other discriminatory social narratives) is great! Being a dick about real people because they like a popular character that you don't like, on the other hand, is Not Great.

Anyways, people should love whatever stories and characters they want. No one else has the right to tell you how meaningful or important your reasons are for liking something, and no one has the right to shame you for liking (or disliking!) a fictional story or a fictional character. Even if your reasons are completely shallow and based entirely on finding that character attractive, that's still valid, your choices are still valid, and the only ones who should feel bad about their choices are the people who choose to be a dick to real people based on what type of fiction they enjoy.

Yes, I think these are some really good points, too! As a child, Zuko is outright told by Ozai that he will learn through suffering, right before Ozai burns him in that sham of an Agni Kai. Zuko responds to this act of cruelty by spending the next three years desperately trying to please his father and become the sort of man his father apparently wants in a child, all so that he can return home to a man who abuses him. He has been told that the Fire Nation are the good guys who want what is best for the world, lead by his father the Fire Lord who wants what is best for his children, too. From the perspective of the Zuko who believes in this propaganda, he is doing everything in his power to "earn" the right to return to the Fire Nation. At the same time, the other nations are fighting against becoming a part of the Fire Nation. For the Zuko who believes that he brought Ozai's cruelty on himself through his bad behavior and can't imagine anything worse than never getting to go home, it would be baffling to see anyone else not just refusing to join the Fire Nation but outright fighting against being colonized by them.

Zuko had to unlearn the lie of his own accountability in the case of his father's cruelty towards him, before he could be ready to let himself learn what he and his nation should be held accountable for in perpetuating the war.

My thoughts on Iroh tend to be a bit fuzzier, in part because it did seem like the writers occasionally added new aspects to his character (such as the White Lotus involvement) without fully considering how those things might hang together with previous actions we'd seen from him. That makes it bit hard to get a fully coherent analysis of his character, and easier to read thoughtless or even outright sinister intent into some of his character beats. However, I do tend to lean towards agreeing with you, that Iroh was a complex character placed in a difficult situation in charge of a deeply traumatized teenage boy who still bought into his father's dangerous ideology, and that he did his best to love and support Zuko from within the boundaries of the situation and his own abilities as a teacher. I think he didn't always know how to connect with Zuko, but I also think he wanted that connection even when he wasn't sure how to say so in a way that Zuko might be able/willing to hear.

Every so often I see the argument that Zuko's journey through the Earth Kingdom was necessary in Season 2, because he had to learn empathy (or empathy for the Earth Kingdom, at least). I have to disagree with this argument.

Zuko didn't lack empathy, before or after being burned. He lacked:

Emotional intelligence (very much not helped by the fact that he was an abused kid who was slow at picking up social skills, and then a very traumatized kid tossed onto a tiny boat with a fresh burn, a crew of adults who didn't respect him, and an uncle who didn't know how to communicate with him, and given a quest that was meant to be impossible by the father who had burned him and claimed it was for his own good)

Acceptance that his father didn't love him, but this was not Zuko's fault nor his responsibility to 'correct' by fulfilling an impossible quest/making himself less compassionate/magically becoming a more powerful firebender/etc (I feel like this one should speak for itself)

Accurate understanding of how his nation was treating the rest of the world (very much due to growing up surrounded by propaganda about how great his country was, and then banished with a crew of Fire Nation soldiers who had grown up with the same propaganda, and his Uncle - the Fire Nation Prince and former General who had led armies in the Fire Nation's war - who seemed to communicate with Zuko primarily through vague philosophical ideas, proverbs that Zuko consistently made clear he did not understand, and questions about Zuko's motives - generally asked in such a way as to make it clear that Iroh thought he already knew the 'right' answer before he asked the question)

Zuko didn't need to learn empathy. He needed to learn that his country was the aggressor in a war against people who primarily wanted to defend their own homes and families from the violence brought by his nation, and he needed to learn that Ozai was wrong for treating empathy and compassion like bad things.
