Current read by Raechel Henderson and I am so into this! Glad I got to finally check it out and highly recommend this and her book The Natural Home Wheel of the Year as well. Will be checking out her other books asap.

So what exactly does spiritual eugenics mean?

Hmm, guess it's been awhile since I've made a post about this, so I guess now's as good a time as any to do it.

Spiritual eugenics is basically any eugenicist belief getting spiritualized or reframed in a spiritual context. It may or may not literally reference DNA.

For example, many New Agers believe that a person can be inherently evil if they have "reptilian DNA," which supposedly comes from reptilian aliens interbreeding with humanity. They associate reptilian DNA with pretty much anyone they reckon as a spiritual or political enemy (it's one and the same with them). They strongly associate reptilian DNA with Jews, especially Ashkenazi Jews.

There's also the idea that some individuals are more "evolved" than others, and therefore, genetically superior. In some (not all) New Age beliefs, these people are destined to inherit the earth after the rest are all wiped out. Supposedly, you can tell whether someone is evolved based on their spiritual beliefs - evolved people have the "right" beliefs, unevolved people have the "wrong" beliefs. This is rooted in Victorian era pseudoscience about linear evolution.

Some New Agers believe in "DNA upgrades." They believe that if they keep their vibrations high and connect to God/Source, they'll receive the DNA that will allow them to evolve as individuals to "the next level of human consciousness." In addition to spiritualizing the idea of linear evolution, it also spiritualizes the idea of individual evolution, which is not a thing. Basically, these people believe that they are genetically superior to those who aren't practicing New Age spirituality, so - spiritual eugenics.

And there's this notion that your capacity to connect to the divine and receive divine guidance at all is determined through your genetics. I once encountered a conspiracy theory claiming that COVID vaccines would alter people's genetics and cut them off from the divine; it effectively proposed that those who received a vaccine would become genetically inferior, and thus dangerous.

It's not limited to New Age, though. It also pops up in the modern witchcraft movement at times. Awhile back there was this couple running this spiritual group where they claimed that the purpose of existence was spiritual evolution, and that the gods would put you through suffering to help you evolve.

Spiritual eugenics is basically used to spiritualize and justify the same kinda BS that regular eugenics is used to justify - colonialism, dehumanization, genocide, etc. Most of the people who advocate for it sugarcoat it with a positive spin so you don't really notice the toxic shit you're actually being sold, which is part of why so many people end up internalizing these beliefs without realizing what they're actually about.

Any sage but white sage. Rosemary is also a good substitute and smells amazing 🌿

Sabbat Recipe: Pumpkin Apple Cider Bisque for Abundance, Luck and Health.

Soup season is finally among us, and I am thrilled. This is a nice, cozy soup that makes a tasty addition to any fall sabbat (or just in general because it's never the wrong time to have soup).

1 tbsp butter

1 onion peeled and chopped

1 tsp minced garlic

1 tsp Thyme

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

15 oz canned pumpkin

1 cup apple cider

3 cups chicken stock.

Instructions

In large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Sautée 3-4 minutes.

Stirring in cinnamon, thyme, and nutmeg. Cook another 2-3 minutes.

Add canned pumpkin, apple cider, and broth. Stir to combine well.

Bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat and cover for 15-20 minutes.

Add to blender and puree until creamy.

Lady Hestia is a wonderful goddess, she is always there for everyone, I adore Lady Hestia, I do not worship her personally but I know well that she is Amazing.

Time for a new segment I like to call: Coincidence or magic?

I do a daily affirmation every morning and today I was mixing it up and chose "I am safe and protected, nothing negative can harm me".

Fast forward a few hours, I was on a walk with my friend and literally some bird poo dropped and splatted right near the tip of my shoe. Admittedly most would argue coincidental because getting a bit of bird poo on your clothes or body isn't exactly harmful. However, I like to think of it as my affirmation this morning worked. I was protected from getting bird poo on my head and having my day ruined!

Witchy Weekly Challenge 8: Inspiration!

Hello my lovely humans! Your resident duck is alive and well! After a massively long period of creative block for Weekly Challenges, I've decided to make WWC week 8 about inspiration! I apologise for the extreme delay in coming up with it, I didn't want to release anything that didn't have my full heart and soul in! Thank you all for being so patient and I hope you enjoy this weeks challenge. I will apologise if any of the daily tasks are the same as previous weeks, but it's always good to check back on some favourites Haha!

This weeks challenge is:

Journalling time! What does the word inspiration mean to you? When have you felt most inspired in your craft? What inspires you to progress in your craft?

Start your day with setting your intention, perhaps when stirring your morning coffee or making your breakfast. You could focus on inspiration or you could set a different intention for the day.

What is a path in witchcraft that inspires you? Whether it be kitchen witchery, green witchery, sea witchery. Incorporate something related to that path into your craft today! Remember it's your personal path, nothing has to be structured and set!

Follow your inspiration with your craft today. Do you feel inspired to write an entry in your BOS? Or inspired to practice tarot? Go for it! Witchcraft has no rules and regulations!

Are there any particular deities or aspects of witchcraft you are drawn to? Research them further today, develop your knowledge. There might be a future part of your craft waiting to develop!

Observe/talk to a fellow practitioner and see where inspiration takes you today!

Spend some time in your favourite place, whether in nature or in your home. Is there anything you could use/incorporate into your craft in this environment? Alternatively what does this place make you feel?

BONUS DAY: meditate with a crystal you are drawn to today. Document your experiences and continue to document anything you notice following this meditation.

Witchy Weekly Challenge 9: Honouring the Natural World:

Welcome back everyone! Your resident duck has managed to return, relatively on time, with Witchy Weekly Challenge 9! This weeks theme is honouring the natural world. I hope you enjoy and as always do share your thoughts on these challenges and any ideas you have for future challenges! I love you all!

The challenge is:

Take some time to sit with your back against a tree, feel the bark against your back. Breathe deeply, visualise yourself spreading roots below the earth.

Observe your natural environment. What plants are native? Can you notice the signs of Autumn/Fall already? Observe, learn, research and incorporate this new knowledge into your craft.

Lets learn more about the hidden meanings of birds! Observe what birds you see regularly and which are rare sightings. Research their hidden meanings.

Plant shopping time! Bring some of the natural world into your space. If you're unable to, spend some time appreciating the plant life in your local area, perhaps when out on a walk!

Give back to your natural world. Feed the birds, water local plant life, leave offerings. Do what you feel is right.

Journaling time! What is a herb you use regularly in your craft? What are its general magical properties? What are the properties it has, personal to you? If you're not sure, what is a herb you would love to use more of and why?

Go on a walk. Are there any elements of nature you are drawn to? Perhaps a broken tree branch can be your new wand? However, please ensure you do so respectfully.

We love coming up with new features to make your experience on Tumblr more visceral; when they don’t work out that way, we remove them to make space for new features. Unfortunately, group chats haven’t lived up to our expectations, so we’ll be removing them from Tumblr this month.

Some of you have really leaned into group chats, discussing the merits of various sourdough proofing times, sharing your WIPs with new audiences, and exchanging complicated fan theories on the provenance of Croki.

The majority of you, however, have preferred to have these interactions elsewhere. And so, as we get ready to remove the group chat feature from Tumblr, it’s time to take these conversations to your reblog chains, your replies, and your messages. We’ll leave your chats up until September 22 at 6pm EST. After that, well, the weird will continue to be your oyster.
