MHA Chp. 314 Spoilers

So as I’m reading the new chapter, I can see where Lady Nagant was coming from in her hatred of society. She wanted to a hero; somebody kids could look up to, but the Commission ended up turning her into an assassin and forced her to kill vigilantes and other unprofessional heroes. 

I always had a feeling the Commission was just a bad organization, and I think that was cemented when Horikoshi reveled Hawks to be a child solider. But this recent chapter just gave me the idea of just how bad and manipulative they are(were?) The Commission president, before he was killed, basically told Nagant that they only cared about heroes that brought them revenue. It would be hard for someone to not lose their faith in society. It also explains how AFO manages to manipulate people to his side; he shows all the ugly parts of society to them instead of lying like the Commission did. 

However, on that same note, I think what Deku said also makes sense. He knows that AFO and the Commission are the same but in different font. But he’s also aware of the world AFO created when he first rose to power all those years ago. The people who keep getting caught in these power struggles are ones like that mouse lady from the previous chapters who want nothing more than to just live their lives. AFO in power would make sure those type of people would suffer the longest which is why the society he promotes is such a familiar for anyone who isn’t powerful.

Also reading this chapter and stuff, it made me realize something kind of depressing. The heroes that sacrificed their lives (Sir Nighteye, Midnight, Crust, etc.) died for a failing society. Nighteye and Midnight died at least in the protection of kids, but Crust gave his life in the escape from the hospital raid for other heroes to get away, believing fully in society. Yet the Commission managed to destroy their sacrifices by being no better than the villain's. 

Another thing too, the Commission and the corrupt heroes and those that were only in it for fame and fortune will never have to suffer the consequences of their actions; Endeavor is kind of the only corrupt one that is facing the music. But heroes like Jeanist, Hawks, All-Might, Wash, Miruko, Edgeshot, Kamui, Mt. Lady, The Pussycats, Fatgum, Ms. Joke, Rocklock, Ryuku, Present Mic, Eraserhead, Vlad King, hell even Gran Torino; heroes that became heroes to try and help people are all having to bear the consequences of the Commission’s corruption and greed. And obviously it would be easier to throw the towel in and retire like everyone else, yet they persevere despite knowing that there is no material reward for it. 

Those are the heroes and those are the people Deku is putting his reasoning in for why people shouldn’t just give up on society. It’s easy to get lost in the dark, and turn your back, but the true heroes will always be able to show that there is still a better society worth fighting for.

Some things y’all need to remember about Hawks

1. Yes he killed twice, but he literally tried every other option BUT doing that and got severely injured and nearly got killed himself because of that. He couldn’t capture Twice and fight off Dabi at the same time. If he was the assassin y’all make him out to be he wouldn’t have tried to reason with him or capture him, he would’ve just taken him out. But Hawks didn’t do that, because he cared about Twice. And that’s what made what happened so heartbreaking, Twice was the only person Hawks actually told some of his true motives/desires, he wanted to be free, he didn’t want to live in a cage, but he showed just how much he’s still in that cage by killing him

2. HE IS A VICTIM OF CHILD ABUSE YOU FUCKS!! I find the Endeavor apologism and the people excusing his abuse because he’s trying to “do better now” just as upsetting as y’all do, but just because Hawks isn’t yet showing any negative feelings about the whole thing doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any, Endeavor was his idol and finding out he was abusive like the father he “saved” Hawks from should’ve rocked his world, but that wasn’t shown. Neither was any turmoil about what he did to Twice post battle. Maybe it will be shown later, maybe it won’t, but don’t presume what you haven’t yet seen. Hawks whole thing is that he’s a spy, he knows how to hide his emotions and what he’s really thinking, if anything he’s likely a master of compartmentalization, it’s what he was trained to do

3. He was groomed by the HPSC since he was around 7 years old, the organization which is now confirmed to be very corrupt and willing to do some fucked up shit in the name of the “greater good” and “maintaining order” and being raised by those people is going to have an effect on his mindset. In baby Hawks’ eyes they were his saviors. And he was a little boy, he was in no way able to have enough maturity to make the kind of decision the HPSC asked of him, and it’s just one of the fucked up things that’s happened to him. And despite all of that he still doesn’t follow their orders blindly, he tries to get around them and find other ways, he didn’t let any civilians die during the high end attack despite having approval for that and then there’s the whole thing with twice I explained earlier. Despite the hpsc’s best efforts Hawks isn’t their trained hunting bird

4. His relationship with Lady Nagant. I am upset as you all are by that potato head mouth breather blowing her up. But Hawks catching her isn’t misogynistic. He’s a hero, he wants to save people, it doesn’t matter the gender of the person or who they were to him he would’ve still caught them. Yes, Lady Nagant is likely going to be used to help develop Hawks’ character, but it was established a few chapters ago that her and Hawks were connected, she was his “senpai” idk why y’all are surprised. And most likely Lady Nagant isn’t going to die. Hawks catching her dead body isn’t as impactful. Also Overhaul is there for a reason. It’s very likely in my mind that he’ll somehow be able to use his quirk again and heal her. I am as fearful as the rest of you of her being tossed aside. But I’ll save judgement on what Hori does with Nagant until the next couple of chapters come out. Lady Nagant got the story we wanted for Hawks and I think that’s very cool (and very sexy of her). And I’m crossing my fingers that Lady Nagant might bring out the emotions Hawks has yet to show on how he feels about everything that’s going on. Because you can’t tell me he doesn’t have any

Overall, it’s okay to dislike Hawks’ character, but don’t hate him for the same reasons you love Shigaraki or Dabi or Lady Nagant. Hawks, Shigaraki, and Dabi were all victims of child abuse. Adding on Lady Nagant, they were all products of child grooming. They’re all victims of hero society, no matter what side they’re on

Imagine if they had children.

You casually walk around and then a shot is fired, the bullet is small, so you don’t see it but then the last thing you see is a boulder right in front of your face.

And 3km away a very well dressed person is making a theatrical bow at your death.

Villains and the arm thing

Lady Nagant: tells Deku that the Comission had her as a assasin for people who did not yet commit any crimes. Lady Nagant: tells Deku the Comission sent her to kill pro heroes who abused their power. Lady Nagant: tells Deku the chairman of the Comission tried to kill her for wanting to retire. Deku: You killed the chairman? That’s not what I was told. Like that’s the part you’re focusing on right now? Really? 

Was my first reaction, but: This is really interesting, because it does sound to a degree that Deku did not truely listen until what she said went against something he was explictly told. So anything before was her story, but that chairman’s death was either public knowledge or Deku knew from Hawks and it went directly against something Deku was told.

So Deku had aquired the knowledge of the chairman’s death by something other than Lady Nagant while she was working as a pro hero. (Which means they most likely had her declared dead or something, instead of admitting that a pro hero went rouge, which obviously they would not do, but it’s nice to get confirmation that the comission has been sweeping issues under the rug for very long.)

And he asks Lady Nagant about it, to get more information.

That means Deku is actually questioning the world he lives in and I am here for that. This is the progression I have been waiting for.

Also this chapter is pretty amazing in general.

Since she started school to become hero you were there, by her side, when she joined the commission you were still there but as a mechanical assistant but you were still here right to her, ready to go to heaven or hell for her, and she felt the same for you. 

 Like destiny, like magnet ultimately joining themselves even if they resisted with all their might they would always be on the same path, so naturally it happened, so naturally you two started dating, it was the logical follow-up.

When she debuted as a hero you were watching here from your office thinking abut how to meliorate her costume, persuaded of her future popularity.

Those were the happy time, you where happy and she was happy.

But as time flew by like the sky turning from blue to black, she started to look more and more depressed, she looked absent always, always thinking. A wall started to make his way trough your relationship,

Eventually after you begged for her to speak her thought, that you felt like you were falling apart without seeing her smile, she told you about everything, she told you about the dirty laundry she had to do behind the scene.

She told you about the true behind the commission, the structure of our society and how she had been thinking so deeply about everything she ever knew, reality, her reality, your reality was heart breaking, without a ray of hope.

All might brightness could not hide anymore the dark shadow behind the hero society he was carrying on his back.

And this night both of you cried while holding each other, finally returning to the warm both of you longed for, this night both of you passionately found your body starving for the other one’s. Not wanting to let g almost knowing the future that would separate them by a single glass.

The hard true about the hell dissimulated into a paradise you leaved for now revealed was far too much a burden, you continued your relationship still going you were watching her drift to an alarming side, darker and darker than the night.

But could you do anything except caressing her face will she was getting the little sleep the commission would give her knowing you would not see her for weeks but still you held back your want for her, you had to, for her mental stability you needed to let her rest has mush as you could.

Little powerless you, weak you who did not know that what you heart feared deep down would soon happen..

Nagant went mad they said, she killed one of her kin and was sent to prison, this news was too much for you, your body immediately giving in.

Then after crying your eyes out asking the sky why did it make you quit hell to taste heaven then suddenly drag you back to hell, the hell without her, your lover.

It did not take you too long to compose yourself back so that you could go to the prison and face her, in front of her, her chained, in a white immaculate room, a silent ‘why’ left your mouth soon filled with sob.

She smiled at you, a melancholic smile, ‘you knew it, it was bond to end like that’ yes you did she was showing every sign possible, she had enough, enough of being dirty, of lying, enough of this society, of everything.

‘now go’ you did not. You would come as much as possible to see her, and she kept asking you to keep on leaving, to forget her as she would surely finish her life here, but yours did not end, it just started you were young she was the love of one time, you had passion for her, you would have other passion at some point for other people.

She was nothing now, nothing to offered and wanting to receive nothing, she just wanted everything to crumble.

Then you both ad a fight, in fact she just humiliated you, insulted you saying she did not wish to see your whore face again.

You left crying, you knew in the end that she did not mean it and just wanted you to have a better life rather than coming every day to a criminal without a future nor a present to give to this deserving you, which obviously you could not do, how could you forget the love of your life, this one time love, she made you so addicted to her almost turning you to madness because of this uncontrollable passion you felt for her, and will always feel just bu thinking of her voice,

And then she ask you to forget everything, to forget you first kiss on the blossoming sakura tree behind the school, to forget your confession, date, to forget your body entangling, sweat being what only separated you, you would not forget all of this even if you tried as hard as you can but you were so in love, you adored her, so you obligated.

You obligated her desire, so you left the oh so lovely lady Nagant.

We need to talk about how fun the paneling is in bnha. Like it genuinely seems like Hori isn’t just creative with other stuff in the plot but the borders and such, the art direction itself

Splitting the panels with Dabi’s body and clothes??

Drawing bubbles in the panels and bending them with impact?

It’s billowing up like rising fire, hotter and hotter. Like it’s only following Dabi’s direction. When Hori does this ^

And Overhaul (splitting the panels between Eri and Izuku, but also, notice how his thumb separates himself and Izuku too??)

Text boxes getting caught up in the mix (below)

(the above with Endeavor being that everything has been turned upside down for him. It’s a huge reveal and this paneling is reminiscent, to me, of those slow zoom-ins with a scene in a movie/series where a character is about to lose their mind. It’s such a big revelation, it changes everything for him; he’s losing his mind knowing that his presumed-dead first born is actually alive and, of all things, a villain)

And then, probably my favorite use of panel borders (though don’t hold me to that dsifnsdisfdji I have a lot of favorites)

Mostly because it’s Twice spiraling and it shows so well. But I wanna walk you through why I think it’s great too, because the paneling is normal before this, then Twice spirals to this page, and the speech bubble at the end doesn’t even finish because you jump STRAIGHT into Twice’s backstory. The scene acts kind of like a sudden white noise, where everything is too busy, too loud, like you can’t even think straight (that’s the point of it!), and then it just suddenly stops

And you’re met with this panel

Anyway. I could go on and on about stuff like this. It just makes it so interesting and fun to read!

I thought of this and i had to draw it immediately,

To me, these characters are not really in any particular order.

Especially since I do like more characters than these, e.g. Deku.

Alas, the generator only allowed five highlights...

So, I guess, the first three are those characters that I found myself relating to the most often.

While the last two feral kids are among those, that I enjoyed watching the most.
