Puberty
Probably one of the most personal drawings I have made in a while:
I dislike change, it’s very upsetting for me, one of the reasons as to why being my autism. Unfortunately since I wasn’t diagnosed until this year, I had very little support.
So when my body started changing, I hated it. I hated my breasts so much and I hated wearing bras. They weren’t even that big but felt like a gigantic burden.
Along with it there were sudden changes of expectations that came with femininity. I was being more and more pressured to conform and I couldn’t do it even when I tried.
My clothes were too masculine and not revealing enough. Feminine, appropriate clothing were hell to wear.
The dolls and toys I loved to receive as gifts were replaced by makeup that felt itchy on my skin.
The boys were looking at me sexually and suddenly I saw myself doing my best to cover my body as much as I could.
And these damn breasts, these annoying sacks of fat that made it uncomfortable to run, to lie down, that had to be accompanied by uncomfortable bras…
The symbols of my failed femininity and the loss of my childhood.
Everyone likes talking about how poorly treated girls are about puberty, but at this point can we just talk about how fucking horrible boys are often depicted in puberty nowadays?:
Girls' puberty - A emotional roller coaster full of physical, mental, and setting changes for a woman's body and societal status.
Boys' puberty - Sex-obsessed child grows hair and beats meat.
This isn't to say to stop talking about Girls' puberty. I think we just need to stop making those for Boys' seem dastardly simple yet explicitly more vulgar because well, first of all this simplification is describing 10-17 year old boys. Literal children.
But another thing is that this depiction makes boys seem like they never have emotional changes like girls do bc "Girls are the ones with emotions, not boys! Boys are obsessed with sex all the time! They only ever think about sex and punching through drywall!".
This need to make boys look "stoic" and "strong" only ends us with a disgusting and problematic depiction of puberty in boys (Who I remind you again, are mostly underage and thereby children). Everyone goes through massive emotional changes in puberty. EVERYONE. Girls may just so happen to be treated worse (Bc society), but we need to stop making boys seem like they don't have emotional changes as well just to make them sound 'cooler'.
I thank god everyday that tumblr and social media wasn’t a thing when i had my awkward puberty phase
When I see a fanfic/AI so obviously written by someone going tru that phase I pray for them. You will be sleepless in a couple of yrs thinking about all the embarrassing teenage thoughts you have left forever and ever on the internet
It really sucks that ever since I’ve gone through puberty I sometimes can’t tell whether I want to get fucked or just torture someone to death. Both of those things feel like a swell of oddly flavored anxiety that translates to rage.
I'm currently writing the most emotional song I've made since "song." It's gonna be long and fucked up because it's about my trauma from OCD and intrusive thoughts so stay tuned I guess
