Retribution - Tumblr Posts
I've been reading a bit about the themes of justice and retribution in fairy tales lately, and I keep finding excerpts that sound like they were ghostwritten by Rafal, haha.
"Most parents today shield their children from the violent imagery found in Grimm’s fairy tales. But if you’ve had enough conversations with young children, you’ll find that they already think a good deal about violence and death and what it all means, so sanitizing fairy tales will not stop children from thinking what they naturally think. If children are nursed on fairy tales that have been sanitized to appease the sentiments of adults and not left alone to nurture their own spiritual development, it will damage their ability to develop a sense of justice, [...]"
"The thirst for justice is strong in children. To deny them drink is to deny them redemption. The next time my daughter pronounces a death sentence on a wicked sinner, I won’t talk her out of it. I’ll agree: they do need to die. [...]"

“For children are innocent and love justice, while most of us are wicked and naturally prefer mercy.” ― G.K. Chesterton
"Modern crime fiction has nothing on the ingenuity, brutality and sheer bizarreness of the offenses committed in classic fairy tales. Moreover, fairy tales are ruthless. Our contemporary crime novels have the monopoly on moral ambiguity, true, but fairy tales take no prisoners and often offer no redemption. Mercy is not a hallmark of the genre and even the kindest, most benevolent maid-turned-princess isn’t afraid to take out her wicked stepmother."

"[...] revenge tends to break out whenever legal remedies are blocked, as when the evildoer controls the legal machinery or is otherwise above the law, or when public law enforcement is very lax."

Overwatch/OW2 Theories: Fio
I am writing this while waiting for my Nintendo Switch to update so I can play Overwatch. That’s why it’s pretty short, but it wasn’t going to be that long either. Hope you all are as excited about the Roadhog skin as I am. Although I play D.Va a lot more than any other hero, I am a tank main with D.Va, Wrecking Ball, and Roadhog being some of my most played heros. ~ Nova
Alright, back on topic! Since Archives are coming up in a couple weeks, I was thinking about what I could talking about before it started. I came up the my theory on the Mystery Storm Rising Omnic(link), I wrote about what skins I wanted(link), so this theory is going to be about Retribution, my favorite game mode. The first thing that came to my mind was Fio. So, I’m going to go over what we know about her and I’m going to theorize about what role she might play in the future, if she plays any at all.
Basics: Fio is a former Blackwatch pilot who was deployed to pick up Gabriel Reyes, Jesse McCree, Genji Shimada, and Moira O'Deorain in Rialto during the Venice Incident(which is the Retribution game mode). I’m not exactly sure who her voice actress is, it might be Echo’s voice actress, Jeannie Bolet. If you want to listen to her from Retribution, here is the link, her first lines are at 4:25.
Overwatch Theory: Since we know Fio was a pilot, after Blackwatch and Overwatch disbanded, she probably joined the Air Force of the country she is from (maybe the USA? I’m not sure). Eventually, she would have gotten the recall message. We know that she didn’t respond to it like Tracer, Mei, or Reinhardt and Brigitte, but it would be cool if she showed up. It would me interesting to see her interactions with McCree and Genji.
Talon Theory: We know from Baptiste’s short story, What you Left Behind, that some ex-Overwatch/ex-Blackwatch member joined Talon after the groups were disbanded, some examples are people like Moira and Gabriel Reyes/Reaper. So, it is possible that Fio joined Talon. During Blizzconline, the Overwatch Devs. mentioned that we might get to play as Talon characters during hero missions, so they might have Fio as the pilot that drops them off wherever they need to go.
Anyways, I got a lot more done yesterday than I thought I was going to, so I might just not post tomorrow. I think that I’m going to start theorizing about possible new characters and new maps, but I am going to make a post about ideas for future mini events/character challenges since Roadhog just got one.
TLDR: Fio was the Blackwatch pilot that saved Reyes, McCree, Genji, and Moira. After Overwatch/Blackwatch disbanded, there are two main options of what would have happened to Fio. One, she joined the Air Force of her country, then she eventually shows up to help the Recalled Overwatch. Two, she joined Talon and acts as a pilot for Talon themed hero missions.
Overwatch Events: 2021 Archives Skins Review
I mentioned that I was going to go over all of the new stuff we get this year, so this is going to be a skin review! I'll go over any information I could find about what inspired each skin and my opinions on each skin.
This is a long post so the TLDR is now going to be at the top! More explanation about my opinions and about the skins themselves are under the cut.
TLDR: My favorite skins going from least to greatest are; Bushi Genji, Mousquetaire Widowmaker, Solider 1776, Polyanitsa Zarya, and Cavalry Tracer.
Epic Skins: Weekly Challenges
Corredor Lucio(Week 1): I think it's alright, I mean it's an epic skin so it's nothing insane. I like the tattoos on his arms and the fire design on his skates, but I'm not a fan of his hair and hat.
Subaquatic Zenyatta(Week 2): Out of all three skins I like this one the most. I love the bronze, gold, and teal blue color scheme that makes him look like an old submarine. I also like the worn and damaged look.
Camouflage Mercy(Week 3): I really like the black hair on Mercy, but my problem with the skin is that there isn't more gold. I like the camo, but it would be even better with more gold that would match with her halo. (she also now looks like a Karen lmao)

Legendary Skins: Loot Boxes
Cavalry Tracer: I'm pretty sure that this is my favorite skin out of this event. I love the gold detail; I think that it works well with the red, blue, white, and black color scheme, but my favorite part of the skin is her guns. I love the wood grain and metallic effect; I also like it on her arm things. The name of the skin, while being a play on her catchphrase, is also the uniform that the British soldiers wore in the 18th century.

Polyanitsa Zarya: This is my second favorite skin all because of her gun and because of the story behind the skin. I do like the skin itself, but I think that the gun makes it even better. In this skin, Zarya is supposed to be a Polyanitsa which is a warrior woman from Slavic legends and folklore. While scrolling through my Twitter feed I found a thread made by overfire_ru on Twitter about all of the lore behind the Zarya skin. It's really interesting and made me move this skin up on my list. Overfire_ru's Twitter thread about the Zarya skin.

Soldier 1776: This is my third favorite skin. I think that it looks pretty cool overall and I especially like the George Washington hair. I also saw a tweet from the Washington Justice twitter that pointed out that on his upper arms, he has these bronze gold shields that say 76 on them which I think is pretty cool. Also, the name Soldier 1776 is a reference to the American Revolution, and his outfit is supposed to be similar to the uniforms American soldiers wore during the revolution.

Mousquetaire Widowmaker: I like this skin a lot, but it is my second to least favorite skin. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I like the other skins more. I love her gun and her outfit is pretty cool looking, but I don't like her hat too much. The feather is okay, but I think her hair should be longer. This skin, like the name suggests, is based on the 18th Century Mousquetaires, also known as musketeers. Mousquetaires/musketeers were famous for protecting the royal family and for being daring, charismatic, and dramatic.

Bushi Genji: I think that this skin is alright, but it's my least favorite skin for this event. The shurikens and sword look really good, but I really don't like the look of the helmet. Genji's signature green stripe thing looks really out of place, and it isn't like they haven't gotten rid of it before, Genji's Kendoka Summer Games skin is an example. Like the other skins, this skin has roots in Japan's history, Genji's birthplace. "Bushi" means "warrior" in Japanese and is used to refer to samurai who would protect feudal landlords.

Anyways, I'm going to be posting a new master list I made for all posts I do about events. That will be posted soon, then I will post about other Archives 2021 Event items.
Overwatch 2 Theories: Blackwatch Tank Corrections
While I was researching for my post about a possible Overwatch Strike team, I learned something about an image I used. On my post about an ex-Blackwatch tank, I used the image below on the left as a reference, but the thing is that we know who that is, or should I say, was supposed to be.

The character in both images is called Wildebeest. He was one of the original characters pitched for Prometheus(Titan) which became Overwatch. Parts of his design helped create Reinhardt, Orisa, and Brigitte. His size and shield would connect him to Reinhardt, his horns and nationality would connect him to Orisa(he is supposed to be from Numbani), and his flail weapon connects him to Brigitte. I think that his concept art is really cool, and I might do a theory on him in the future since I now know more about him(it might be more of a mini-theory).
Anyways, I will be posting about the Overwatch League soon, and I will be making a post about Aaron Keller's first Game Director Developer update!

Ghost Crabs are (as their name suggests) the spirits of murdered crabs bent on revenge. Given physical form by voluminous levels of hatred, these belligerent Brachyura spend every waking moment of their new lives hunting down those who wronged them. Curiously, the most common cause of this hellbent vengeance is “disrespectful treatment of earthly remains” and not “being murdered” so one would be well-advised to avoid crab feasts.

Mediation
When two people are arguing and a third person comes in to mediate/bring in a different viewpoint/whatever, I see a few different methods of handling it. I do this a lot myself, actually, and having watched a couple of methods, I have one that I chose as my favorite; however, I get a few bad remarks when I use it, so I wanted to lay out my logic here in the hopes that things are a bit clearer.
As an example: one kid took candy from another kid, claiming that he was owed that candy. A mediator of some kind, be it a parent, a teacher, or another kid, sees the situation and acts on it to bring some resolve. There's three main methods that I see people use in some variation.
Subjective - The mediator chooses a side from the start that they'll support. Perhaps it's not entirely blatant, as it could be an emotional bias that sways their judgement, or some sort of intuition; but whatever it is, it's not entirely logical. Sometimes this is based on good intentions (my friend/son/star student wouldn't do that!!).
Outcome: The favored kid receives retribution from the unfavored kid.
Pros: Usually an emotional bias tends to be for good reason; the kid had to get that reputation somehow. It places less stress on the mediator, with a high chance of being correct, and brings judgement to the situation. The mediator also has a sense of satisfaction for helping.
Cons: It could be a bribe, or the parents could have too much faith in their kids, or it could otherwise be wrong. In fact, it might require a second mediator to determine whether this is true or not. In any case, the mediator can be accused of taking sides.
Most used by: Friends, parents
Objective - The mediator listens to both sides equally and searches for facts and morals. When both kids have had their say, the mediator chooses who is right based on as much logic and evidence as possible. Justice is then dealt out based on the situation.
Outcome: The kid who is deemed the victim receives retribution from the kid who is deemed the offender
Pros: The correct justice is often laid out...
Cons: It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to be objective! Almost all of the time, there is some sort of emotional bias - even if the mediator has never met these kids before. Any use of fallacies completely destroys the mediation as a whole, and even moral "absolutes" vary from person to person. Also, since one kid is told that they're wrong, the mediator can be accused of taking sides.
Most used by: Judges
Impartial - The mediator listens to both sides, attempting to calm the nerves of both kids where necessary. The mediator then tries to get them to forgive each other, without choosing sides or dealing out punishment.
Outcome: Both kids get candy from the office.
Pros: The tension is removed, and the mediator distances him/herself from the situation as much as possible.
Cons: Whoever should have gotten punished did not. In fact, they get away scot-free, and the kid who was wronged receives nothing!
Most used by: Teachers, counselors
Could you tell from my vocabulary which one I like best? I try to be objective, which doesn't always work out for me. But I've been accused by three people now of taking sides when I do this, so I just wanted to make one thing clear:
That's the freaking point!
I hate impartiality! It just promotes further tension between the two parties, because the situation is never fully resolved (so both think they're still right). And it also promotes that the bad guys get to do whatever they want, because the victim does not get any sort of solace, and the offender is never told that what they did was wrong... except by the other party, who they're not listening to anyway.
So yes, I choose sides - after I hear what's going on. Because I'm not going to sit by and watch someone be a jerk to someone else. Even if it means I get into the fight myself and have a chance of being wrong.
Bowynn Gods: Istra

Istra (Is-tra) Istra is the Goddess of the 3 fold law, respect, retribution and lawful vengeance. She sits on the left hand of her mother Rhya; her father being Anhur. Istra is the sister of Ion and together they guard over the sacred laws of Bia and the laws of their father, given to mankind. She is not a vengeful nor destructive goddess. In fact, she is rarely seen, only stepping forward to people who call to her help who have suffered great injustice by the acts of others. If the mortal asks her to help them, they must be completely innocent and have been wronged by others. Istra will then seek out those that have hurt said person unjustly and bring balance to the damage that was done. However, if the person who calls to her is lying, Istra will see through the person and purge him with ill times.
Istra is something of a huntress. But instead of animals, she hunts wrong doers. It is said her sword and arrows do not kill. They have been blessed by Bia and so, when her sword or arrows strike her target, the arrows bring about the justice so fitting the person's crime. Tales of Istra’s justifiable powers are endless. Yet none ever talk about bringing about death. To Istra, death is a coward’s way out of receiving the 3-fold law. Even those that commit murder. If death does come to a person that Istra is asked to hunt, it is not by her doing. Some question if the goddess every does what others pray to her for, when it seems people get away with so much bad things. To this the goddess Istra said that justice will always come in time.
Despite her attributes, Istra is not a fearsome goddess. In fact, those that have been graced by her divine presence, describe her as most beautiful, long jet black hair and emerald green eyes. Her garment, bow, arrows and circlet are golden. When not seen in her immortal form, she takes the form of a butterfly, her totem. All truly offered gifts are welcomed by Istra: food, flora, flame, votive and more. It is also highly suggested that receive Istra's help, that it be followed up with a plethora of offerings and a card or script of thanks.
