Steve X Peggy - Tumblr Posts
Peggy: What exactly do you know about women?
Steve: A woman is like an artichoke.
Peggy: ...
Steve: You have to do a bit of work before you get to her heart. What are your thoughts about men?
Peggy: A good man is like fine wine, they all start off as grapes and you have to crush them and keep them in the dark until they mature into something you wouldn't mind having dinner with.
Steve: ... you see me as a grape?
Being both a Stucky and Steggy shipper during Endgame:
I know my value anyone else's opinion doesn't really matter
Peggy Carter- Captain America: First Avenger
Kiss me once, then kiss me twice, then kiss me once againâŚ
Steve spent all his time doing what was right for others, he went out of his way to make everyone happy and content.
and when he finally fixed everything at the end, he decided that he should make himself happy for once and he did that. He absolutely did that.
Hello, weâre gonna talk about Bucky Barnes. I know, shocker. A totally new concept for which I have never written the likes of before. (Oof, I sound like Elizabeth Bennet. Neat!) As well as the beautiful and inspiring Agent Margaret âPeggyâ Carter. (Yeah, I put her full name and not Buckyâs cuz yâall already know how much I admire him.)
We all have our opinions on the latest and last Avengers movie Endgame. Whether it be that Tony shouldnât have died. Natasha shouldnât have died. Peter Parker and Nebula shouldâve been adopted by Tony Stark. All popular opinions and theories and reasonably acceptable alternate endings. (Personally, I agree with all of these and Iâm genuinely upset that the actors contracts ended on that note.) Now the opinion that has become the main topic for this post is the ever-so-popular argument on the ending for the former Captain America, Steve Rogers. No, Iâm not talking about giving his shield, mantle, and title over to his friend and teammate Sam Wilson. I actually think this was a smart move on the directors part, if a little untimely. Sam wouldâve always been Captain America, though he wouldâve had to wait until Bucky got his turn. Iâm getting off course and yâall have to deal with that, sorry. Anyway, Iâm talking about Steve going to replace the stones and staying in the past.
It was cute. It was, truly. Hero gets the girl and all that jazz. And it wouldâve even made sense, if not for the obvious. The obvious being that Steveâs ending did not in any way capture the story of his life. Or Peggyâs. He was so incredibly selfish that his actions wouldâve ruined his characters if not for other factors. He disrupted the entirety of her life. Peggy founded S.H.I.E.L.D. Peggy Carter got married. Peggy Carter had children. Peggy Carter had a fulfilling career and life. She died of old age surrounded by the people who loved and admired her the most. Hell, she even got to ease the guilt and sadness caused by Steve Rogersâ supposed death. Not many people get to say that. She was a wonderful and amazing woman. Not to mention a feminist icon. All of it, nearly her entire life was undone by one dumbass she kissed once. Just once. Yes, she missed him, wished it couldâve been something more, maybe even fantasized on what couldâve been a few times. But she was content, happy. She didnât deserve having her path screwed up and her family blown out of existence. Especially not to the man who kissed her niece just days after her funeral. The disrespect. (If you ship Steve and Sharon, thatâs on you.) Peggy probably never even knew that Bucky was still alive, if Steve told her along with what happened to Bucky, Iâd like to believe that she sure as shit pitched a fit to Steve about his idiocy. Because who the hell abandons their best friend, their brother, in a world where they are either hated or constantly misunderstood. I know, I just know, that if there was a way to send Steve back, she wouldâve. For Buckyâs sake, if nothing else. But there wasnât and Peggy Carter is nothing if not a reasonable and thoughtful woman.
She knows that Bucky can handle it. We all do. But he shouldnât have to do it alone. He deserves more than that. Yeah, he has Sam. But, in the movies, Sam is shown to barely tolerate Bucky, sometimes aligning with him to save the world whenever the situation calls for it. I love the Stackie friendship. I think itâs great, honestly. But we have to remember that canonically, Sam just doesnât like Bucky that much. And he has every right not to. Regardless of the brainwashing, Bucky did try to kill Sam on multiple occasions. And Sam wouldnât be Sam if he just forgave him, even if Bucky did apologize for his actions and tried to make amends. And, yes, in the FATWS trailer they appear to be friends or at the very least friendly. But there is over a year-and-a-half distance between Endgame and FATWS, giving them plenty of time to get better acquainted as more than frenemies and on-and-off allies. But Iâm not talking about in the near future, Iâm talking about post-Endgame, where they havenât quite gotten that far. Thereâs camaraderie there, which is good, but I felt that, realistically, it only exists because they both know that theyâre gonna be stuck together for a while and know better, know that they have to make the most of the situation.
Honestly, it makes the entirety of the Captain America storyline, where it is explicitly stressed that Steve and Bucky are close friends whoâd do just about anything for each other, a moot point. Iâm not trying to offend the Stucky shippers, really. Stucky makes more sense that Steve and Sharon anyway. Iâm just referring to the fact that Steve and Bucky arenât a canon couple in the sense that they were never specifically written as one. (And I stg that if they follow up on the rumors that say that Bucky and Sharon will be a couple, the producers and directors and story writers will be catching my fucking hands.) It just doesnât make any sense that Steve would spend so much time mourning Bucky, constantly implying how much he needs Bucky in his life, then doing everything and anything to ensure Buckyâs safety only to leave him for the first woman who ever looked at him in interest. Especially since it usually takes less than a year to get over a crush and homie had over seventy years, nearly ten of those where he could have consciously gotten over her. But with Bucky, he might not have had a lot of time with him, but it was always supposed to have meant that he would have waited for his friend to get better. Bucky wasnât dying, Bucky wasnât about to leave him behind. If anything, Bucky was just as eager to get better so he could reconnect with the only person who could even marginally understand him and his trauma. (Natasha could have, too, but they killed her, so...) The only people who even like Bucky are Shuri and TâChalla, who re-dubbed him as the White Wolf. (In the comics, the White Wolf was the adoptive brother of the Black Panther, so TâChalla and Shuri and Mother Queen Ramonda straight up adopted Bucky Barnes into the royal family. This is based on the rumors that Bucky will be replacing Hunter as the White Wolf in the MCU.)
Point is that Steve left Bucky behind, their friendship being a main plot point in all of the Captain America movies, and it makes no sense and makes it seem like their friendship meant nothing when Steve went back to Peggy. Hopefully, they can remedy this in FATWS by making old Steve a kind of mentor to the new Captain America and a sort of guidance towards Bucky. Steveâs entire personality was his compassion, consideration, and commitment to the people he cared about and his morals which he is often bull-headed about. I love Steve Rogers. Captain America is one of my favorite superheroes. Chris Evans portrayed this character perfectly and really brought the character to life. But what the fuck was that ending. All Iâm saying-she says after like four paragraphs-is that they couldâve done worse.
We are running, we are running
But you're a killer
and I'm your best friend
Think it's unfair, your situation
You say I'm changing
Sorry I didn't know I had to stay the same
Can we talk about this later?
I saw this post
About Endgame and it was about a perfect ending.
The person who made thought a âperfectâ ending wouldnât be one where Tony died. It would be one where Steve took the gauntlet and sacrificed his life for victory.
On the post, the person said he would have a selfless ending and not one where he would be âselfishâ and âold.â
And a lot of people liked it probably because it was better than the ending we have. People said in the comments of the post that the ending we have was âselfishâ of Steve and it went against his âcharacter.â
What do you think?
I know what I think. I disagree strongly. Why?
1. If Steve made the sacrifice, Tony would not have been able to prove himself.
Now, we all know how selfless Tony really is and we werenât surprised when he was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. But do you remember in the first Avengers movie? That one scene where Steve and Tony were arguing,
Steve said Tony would never be the one to make a sacrifice. Of course, as Steve got to know Tony he knew that wasnât true so Tony never needed to prove anything to Steve or anyone else. But it still was a beautiful finish that left a huge impact on MCU fans.
2. Steve lived a selfless life.
In Captain America, Steve found love in Peggy. A love he gave up in order to defeat Red Skull and start the fall of Hydra.
In Captain America Civil War, Steve threw what he had away for Bucky. Not to mention in all the Avengers movies Steve fought, not for himself, but for the world.
His whole life has been filled with selfless acts and the second he makes one selfish act, people are upset with him.
3. Like Bucky, Steves whole life has been filled with fighting.
Yes, Steve made that decision himself but that doesn't make it any less exhausting. Veterans of war may be haunted by what they have done. We know Bucky is but what about Steve?
He's made out to be this perfect man who stands for justice and righteousness but that's not who he is. Deep down, Steve Rodgers is just a good IMPERFECT man with a good punch. Don't you think he might have nightmares?
In the first Avengers movie, he was obviously upset over his past. We saw him having flashbacks of when he was frozen and the moments leading up to that. You cannot tell me the past doesn't haunt this man.
In my opinion, Steve is just as tired of fighting as Bucky and he has every right to be. Why can't he have his peace?
4. Peggy loves Steve.
The post I talked about before also touched on how Steve ruined the life Peggy made for herself but lemme remind you of somthing.
In Captain America Winter Soldier, Peggy was so happy to see Steve. You could see it in her eyes, despite the love she had for her deceased husband and despite the life she lived, she still loved that man. And it was so beautiful because in Agent Carter, Peggy developed feelings for someone else. But even after all that, when Peggy saw Steve again, she was happy.
Peggy's life wasn't ruined when Steve decided to go back to her. Look at how happy and at peace she is when she finally danced with Steve at the end of Endgame. You cannot tell me she is missing a life she doesn't have. If she even remembers that life.
But if she remembers the life she had, she still chose Steve.
5. Why can't Steve choose this?
To everyone who is against Steve's decision, why? Comment why because I honestly want to know. I want to see the other side of this argument.
Why can't Steve chose Peggy?
Is it because he's abandoning Bucky? No. Bucky knew what Steve was going to do. In Falcon in the Winter Soldier, Bucky talks about Steve and him talking about giving Sam the shield.
Did this talk happen before Steve left to return the stones? Most likely but it's not for sure. If that was the case, I'm pretty sure Steve talked to Bucky about his plans to live with Peggy.
Steve didn't abandon Bucky and Bucky isn't bitter.
I may not like having an MCU without Steve Rodgers and I may hate the cracker-jack Tom they got holding the shield, but I respect Steve's decision.
I understand and respect what he chose.
What are your thoughts?
Happy 96th birthday Agent Margaret âPeggyâ Carter. I hope you got the dance you deserved with your darling.
Peggy: Love isn't real.
