The Cyclops Saga - Tumblr Posts

Okay, I’ve been meaning to make a post about this for a while, but today I finally sat down to do it. Around the release of the ocean saga (I think), I made a post about how Odysseus was always made out to be larger than life, but in the end he was “just a man”, and with the phrase being repeated so much throughout EPIC, it really reinforces that.

But re-listening to the circe saga, I realised that, similar to one of those birds that puff itself up to seem bigger when feeling threatened, Odysseus does that too. Not necessarily physically, but he uses his words to make himself appear more threatening.

In ‘Remember Them’, when Odysseus is telling the cyclops who the person who blinded him was, he lists out a bunch of titles.

“I’m the reigning king of Ithaca, I am neither man nor mythical, I am your darkest moment, I am in infamous...”

Notice how much more scary he would seem to Polyphemus when he appears to be so impressive? This was his goal- to make Polyphemus want to cower in fear. And he did this why? Because in a similar but opposite way that  he cowered to Circe to make her feel pity on him and his crew to let them go, it was convenient for him to seem larger than life, and it built him up so that it would be impossible for the cyclops to not remember him.

Another example of this is when he goes to confront Circe in ‘Done For’, he tells her that “I must be a God like you”. Obviously, this isn’t true and Circe knows this, but he does it in a (poor) attempt to trick her and make her give in before he even has to lift a hand to do anything.

So yeah, just something I noticed. If you have any other thoughts on this feel free to share them with me. (:

Someone should write something where it's the Greek heroes from the Iliad watching odysseus during the odyssey from the afterlife. like achilles and company just being like yea fuck that guy up man. u got that. or he's crying over missing penelope and telemachus and they just feel bad for him or smth.

could also be them all listening/watching the epic songs/animatics 🦭

(even tho a lot of them don't die it's a fun idea in theory)

ok ok theory

(also I don't know if this has already theorized. If so, I'm sorry and I'm not trying to steal the idea)

Mr. Jimbo Pimbo himself said (during the thunder saga stream) that everything the people who died sang in the song, The Underworld, was the last thing that they where thinking before they died

When we see Polites in The Underworld, he is singing the chorus to Open Arms. This means that's was what he was thinking before he died. But, why would he be thinking that? In his final moments, he was beaten badly by the cyclopes, probably in terrible pain and fear. So why those happy, reassuring thoughts instead of one's of fear and pain?

Well, before Polites was killed, he called out to Odysseus saying "Capatain", addressing his friend. Before he could say anything else, polythemus (or however you spell his name) killed him with his club.

My theory? Polites was trying to tell Odysseus to greet the world with open arms. No matter how bad things got. No matter what people did to him. No matter the circumstances, he had to greet the world with open arms. Polites wanted to make sure his friend would be ok, but he was killed before he could get the message across

I imagine after "My goodbye", Athena went like: "Plan A failed. Oh, well. Plan B is still available." And went to Diomedes.

Polyphemus: I would like to thank you for this lovely wine, Nobody!

Odysseus: I'm so glad we see eye to eye.

Polyphemus, a cyclops who has heard that joke done to death:

Polyphemus: Y'know, I was gonna let you all go but, screw it, just for that I'm eating your bestie.

Poseidon: My poor son! I'm sorry I wasn't here to protect you! Such a shame the one who hurt you slipped away before I could arrive.

Polyphemus: Actually he left me his name, address and social security number.

Poseidon: Oh. What a fucking dumbass.

Athena: *screaming in the distance*

The Mandela effect strikes again! I swear to gosh that the lyrics of Polyphemus were “maybe you and I can STRIKE a deal” but I listened to the cyclops saga for the first time in a few weeks the other day and it goes “maybe you and I can MAKE a deal” like what!? I thought oh maybe it’s just like that in Jaylor’s version BUT NOOOOO because I went back and watched a lyric video from before Jaylor’s version existed and it was MAKE A DEAL NOT STRIKE! I was so convinced! can literally hear Jay’s voice singing “maybe you and I can STRIKE a deal” in my head! Ahhhh idk!!!
