The Handmaid's Tale isn't really my cup of tea. Beloved was great but also not really my thing. But neither of these books should be banned for whatever arbitrary reasons people have come up with

"I don't want to read this" is totally valid.

"This is disgusting to me" is totally valid.

"I don't want to read this because it is disgusting to me" is totally valid.

"I don't think anyone should be allowed to read or write this because it is disgusting to me" is authoritarian.

What Do You Need To Face?

How to Pick a Pile? Some of us focus on the image that seems to call to us most, some intuitively choose regardless of picture. Don't overthink it. Choose whichever pile you feel called to. It may even be more than one!

Pile 1: You are more likeable than you know. You are afraid of opening yourself up. You need to face the fact that you are not alone. You are not the only one who thinks like you. You are not the only one who feels the way you feel and wants to find community. Searching for others like you can be scary, but they are out there searching for you too.

Pile 2: There is more to you than your bad moments. It's OK that you aren't the perfect person you want to be. You are tied to the version of you that sees imperfection and flaws. You need to face your imperfect self and be fine with them. You also need to face the good things that you have been ignoring. You have good ideas that you sit on. It's time to seriously give them your energy.

Pile 3: You have to face your own judgement. If you come to the conclusion that things need to change, you need to face that too. The way you think is blocking you from evolving and getting you to the you that you really want to be. Facing this part of you can be difficult due to other people's influence, but it's important nonetheless.

I.... I had to share these words, because they speak of truth and they speak of me and my sisters... Because they hit real hard...

Women of the word. 

You led me to become a strong and independent woman. But you did so suffering. And you shouldn’t have to. 

Women of the world. 

You were destroyed in the past and you still are today. By men who, in need of power and control defined you as a simple hole. 

Women of the world, 

I wish I could tell you the fight was won but it is not. I wish I could tell you it’s over but it’s not. 

As a kid, my mom said she wanted me to become a perfect woman. An educated and intelligent woman, but one who can manage a household as well and take care of her husband. 

I don’t blame her. She grew up in a culture that asked too much from women and not enough from men. She grew up in a culture where women would carry all the burdens but men pretended they would. She grew up in a culture that presented husbands as a purpose, not a choice. 

But I said 

“Mom, I can’t. I cannot for I love my flaws too much. I love the flaws you despise, my laziness, my uncombed hair, the unfeminine side in me. I love all of it. 

But hear me for they don’t make me any less of a woman. I am as worthy as others and you taught me that. For what matters is inside of me. And you told me, I was always loved for my kindness to others.”

As a kid, media taught me women were the weaker sex. For they are too sensitive, for they need too much attention, for they want to be loved. 

As a woman, education taught me men needed women. For they couldn’t last a day without them. But women don’t need men, women evolve and thrive with no man. But that was hidden from us for too long. 

I was in the middle of the Handmaid’s tale and I started sobbing. So hard actually, I just turned it off for a bit. Because for one second, I saw how real that was. How greedy men took everything from us for too many centuries. How greedy men led us to believe we were weak when they wouldn’t last a single fucking hour with those period cramps. When they wouldn’t even survive a fucking pregnancy let alone the delivery. 

And I never wanted the two genders to be at war. But they started it. 

I am no great author though I wish I was and I don’t know if this text will be read by many or even any. But for those of you kind enough to read me, please let it be a time to honor those women, who throughout History suffered. To all of those women who were and are raped, to all of those victims of domestic abuse, please let’s remember them.

For my English class we read The Handmaid's Tale and this is a part of my final assignment for the unit.

In all honesty I didn't like the novel too much but I loved Moira and I hope yall enjoy my design of her!

There is an “us”? It seems imagined, like secrets in the fifth grade. People with mysterious and dark lineages. It doesn’t seem as if it should be the true shape of the world. That’s a hangover from an extinct reality. Now, the Guardians of the Faithful and American soldiers still fight with tanks in the remains of Chicago. Now, Anchorage is the capital of what’s left of the United States. And the flag that flies over that city has only two stars. Now, darkness and secrets are everywhere. Now, there has to be an “us”. Because, now, there is a “them”.

Sorry, we were briefly dazzled by his compassion, humanity and his absolute love for people, well, like him, we only have one book from which we learn everything (we think for him it is one of the oh so many different versions of the Bible, for us it is always the current version of the Book of World Records).

In our opinion, he's* far too woke - honestly, do you want him to speak for his family's cell or even be able to vote?

He just doesn't go far enough because he's a liberal soft-spoken Christian! In our opinion only a true leader must lead a nation.

What always makes us so sad is that we meet him in the dark room at some point and he switches off the light. Sorry of course the man is not gay is a mortal sin according to some old books (who reads old books).

Then there's a big cry from the poor victim*** who has been seduced by Satan.

Well, we've had our fun now, seriously, let's summarise what he's saying.

Women don't have to vote because the head of the family, the man who of course loves his family, always makes the right decisions for them and therefore makes the right choice because he loves them.

There is only one problem here, only God is infallible, so if he believes he is infallible, that is blasphemy and we would be back to the Spanish Inquisition.

What if the man doesn't love the family? Then the family is beaten until the family loves the man?

And then there's the inelegant argument that drag queens shouldn't read books, and the gay jihad, what's that supposed to be? Didn't he know what kind of mistake he was making here? By associating the word jihad with gay, gay becomes a religion. And yet another own goal and that is blasphemy off to the Spanish Inquisition you brain acrobat.

An old piece from back in September 2017 that I somehow never ended up posting. I’d just finished reading the Handmaid’s Tale, and hadn’t watched to show yet. This was my interpretation of the handmaid’s appearance.
