The Munsters - Tumblr Posts

I love both series and I hate this fight ,yes I love Addams Family and The Munsters so what

Not sure why the Addams Family and Munsters fandoms have a rivalry. I'd think they'd practically be the same fandom given the similarities between the two series but NO.

They must be enemies for some reason.

PET SEMATARY (Dir: Mary Lambert, 1989).

PET SEMATARY (Dir: Mary Lambert, 1989).

Probably to my detriment I have never read a Stephen King novel, although I have enjoyed many movies based upon his works notably Stand By Me (Rob Reiner, 1986), Misery (Rob Reiner, 1990), Shawskank Redemption (Frank Darabont, 1994) and the recent It (Andy Muschietti, 2017). So I sat down to this, my first viewing of Pet Sematary, with reasonably high expectations.

King’s novel was first published in 1983 to critical and commercial success so a movie adaptation was inevitable. The plot, which concerns the resurrection of dead pets and - whoops!- one or two humans, should have made for a creepy, maybe even darkly humorous horror. Instead we have a movie that feels cheaply made, is both schlocky and hokey and is occasionally unintentionally funny. Herman Munster himself Mr Fred Gwynne is a welcome familiar face and offers easily the best performance from an otherwise no star cast. He and the decent end-title song by a past their prime Ramones are the undoubted highlights of this sorry affair.

To be honest, I am not particularly a fan of the horror genre; gore does nothing for me but I do enjoy a creepy atmosphere. Pet Sematary has its share of gore but unfortunately little atmosphere, unless the atmosphere is that of a made for TV movie. Although critically reviled upon release the movie did spawn a sequel: the largely forgotten Pet Sematary Two (Mary Lambert, 1992). A remake was released in April 2019 and for once, perhaps, a remake is justified as it will almost certainly be an improvement on the original.

Perhaps I am being a little too harsh on a film belonging to a genre of which I am admittedly not fond. I realise this movie has its fans and if you can see something in it that I cannot then fair play to you. Ultimately I just expected more than Pet Sematary was able to deliver.

THE GHOST AND MR CHICKEN (Dir: Alan Rafkin, 1966).

THE GHOST AND MR CHICKEN (Dir: Alan Rafkin, 1966).

The Ghost and Mr Chicken is a family friendly comedy/horror from Universal Pictures, with the accent firmly on smiles rather than shocks.

Something of a throwback to haunted house comedies of an earlier age - the Bob Hope vehicle The Cat and the Canary (Elliott Nugent, 1939) springs to mind - The Ghost and Mr Chicken finds nebbish newspaper typesetter Luther Heggs spend the night in a haunted house in an attempt to further his career as as a journalist. Becoming a local celebrity, he lands himself a subpoena when property owner Mr Simmons (Philip Ober) challenges Heggs' claims of ghostly goings on in the abandoned abode.

SCP Foundation/Addams Family Headcanons

I might write a story about these eventually, but feel free to use these in your own fics, as well. Just be sure to credit, and share a link if you'd be so kind!

-The Shy Guy (SCP-096): The Addamses actually consider him to be quite handsome (look at that lovely pallor!), which boosts his self-esteem, at least temporarily. He may or may not be Lurch's distant cousin.

-The Plague Doctor (SCP-049): Naturally, the family is immune to his touch of death, and actually consider him to be a good doctor. Grandmama especially enjoys his youth-enhancing brews. Morticia and Gomez keep trying to play matchmaker for him since he's so handsome and so good with the kids, but he isn't interested since it would interfere with his life's work. He has been the Addams’ family physician for centuries. (Bonus: He also knows the Munsters, but Grandpa considers him a quack. They enjoy getting into scientific arguments.)

-The Statue (SCP-173): Peanut enjoys posing for Morticia's paintings (always the same pose, but that doesn't seem to matter). He'll also let the kids draw on him as long as they wash it off. Uncle Fester likes his neck massages.

-Dr. Wondertainment: A long-time friend and business partner of Gomez Addams, who has become a friend to the family. He sends Wednesday and Pugsley a new toy every Halloween.

"The Munsters" Tendr Un Oscuro Reinicio Con El Cineasta Del Terror James Wan.

Ok, I have to post this. About Agatha All Along...

As someone that knows far more television than most and grew up watching so many "before their time" shows that I am an anachronism and could easily time travel to any post TV era and blend in, I loved WandaVision. It is a love letter to all of classic television in the way that Tarantino's films are smutty love letters to the genes he makes them in, full of homage, references, and Easter eggs. Believe me when I tell you that you are missing out on so much of what makes that show phenomenal if you don't get the references.

What does this have to do with AAA, you may be asking? Her theme song is a classic TV theme song. It's not a subtle and barely noticeable hint or sample either. It's as subtle as Ice Ice Baby being Under Pressure. This was obviously intentional based on the reality it occurred in and the TV static soaked nostalgia dripping from every pixel in The Hex. Agatha All Along is The Munsters theme song. For those unfamiliar, that show was about a family of monsters living amongst humans. The thing is that the monsters were the goth Wards with how wholesome, kind, empathic, and compassionate they were to everyone, while the humans were judgemental, cruel, and more monstrous by far (nothing is exaggerated there). The Munsters are more human than human, and for those that get why the Rob Zombie reference is amusing this 🖤 is for you. They could have picked any iconic song to use and I think there's a relevance in choosing The Munsters. Here they are so you can compare them.
