-Madeline Miller, The Song of Achilles

The never-ending ache of love and sorrow. Perhaps in some other life I could have refused, could have torn my hair and screamed, and made him face his choice alone. But not in this one. He would sail to Troy and I would follow, even into death.

Wolfy I need context, who slapped Patroclus and why
Pretty sure it was Apollo and I could not tell you
I think he was trying to climb the trojan wall?maybe?
Patroclus
Spiritually, sexually, and romantically attracted to that dirty little disaster twink with the fucked up fate.

im reading this and its the funniest thing ever (its a TSOA bachelorette au where patrochilles falls in love) and I need to share it with yall
so u know how in tsoa it says 'and when he died, all things soft and beautiful would die with him' and it's patroclus talking about achilles bc he expected to be left when achilles was gone but when he did the thing where he died first all things soft and beautiful about achilles died with him and achilles became a hellbent war monster that doesn't know love, only remembers it
How I still feel 2 months on from finishing The Song of Achilles.

The soldiers nearby mumble as crazy amounts of gold is given to a “girl-slave”.
No, they were not betting on Achilles being gay.
That bit is obvious.
They all bet on Achilles being top, and the only one who bet on Patroclus being top was Briseis
Achilles: Hey, has anyone seen my top?
Odysseus, not looking up from sharping his sword: Yeah Patroclus is on a walk
Achilles: *chokes*
Agamemnon: *spits out his wine*
How about we compromise with the historians and say that Patroclus and Achilles were “friends with the benefit of being in love”
Maybe they won’t notice it actually means they’re gay lovers.. maybe.
bitches be like “I’m in a fandom of 2010” “I’m in a fandom from 1960” “I’m in a fandom from the 18th century” gurl, please. My fandom is so ancient even Plato and Alexander the Great were members of it. I believe I win this one, along with my gay nerd fandom siblings.
You may be in her dms, but i’m throwing figs at him to get him to notice me. We aren’t on the same level.
-Achilles about Patroclus, probably
Achilles: *walks outside shirtless*
Agamemnon: “Hey topless”
Achilles: *starts violently sobbing and has to be physically restrained from killing Agamemnon*
“You don’t have to rub it in that Patroclus is dead !”
Agamemnon: “…what”
Patroclus, in ghost form: “drag him babe”
As long as Hector lives, Achilles cannot die.
Hector is like a barrier, keeping Achilles from the underworld, and keeping Achilles and Patroclus together.
But suddenly, Patroclus dies.
And as long as Hector lives, Achilles cannot die.
Suddenly, Hector becomes a barrier, keeping Achilles from the underworld, and keeping Achilles and Patroclus apart.
That is what Hector did to Achilles.
He kept him from his love.
Feel free to add suggestions i’m running out of ideas
Thought of Achilles beating the shit out of someone and letting Patroclus clean his knuckles
Fun Fact - or not so much
Okay, so, in my new book, there's a couple who is based off of Patroclus and Achilles and y'all know that quote from Song of Achilles right?
“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”
My couple has various moments where "Patroclus" recognizes "Achilles" right away by the sound of him walking, or how he smells, or (when he's dying) by his touch as a reference.
I did that at random. I didn't plan it but still happened.
And now I'm crying.
Y’all, I need help. I’m reading The Song of Achilles (absolutely fucking breathtaking book btw oh my god it’s amazing) and like every single interaction between Achilles and Patroclus is giving MASSIVE Anakin and Obi-Wan vibes (except the sexy ones), like I could just replace the names and it would work perfectly… but I read the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus as entirely romantic (because duh - that’s what the book is about, and also they have a lot of gay sex) and I read the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan as entirely platonic, brotherly. And I’m of the belief that the romantic love and platonic love only differ in root feeling, and they don’t differ in behaviors, and the way you describe loving someone so incredibly strongly is the same across all types of love - so I’m guessing that the characterizations of each individual character color how I interpret the relationships they’re involved in, and that’s why I read the exact same interactions and behaviors (and codependency) as romantic for one pair of characters and as platonic for a different pair? But it’s still confusing me, especially because I’m getting writing inspiration and wanna rewrite certain SoA scenes with Anakin and Obi-Wan but in the context of SoA, I still interpret those scenes romantically?
Anyway I would love for someone in both fandoms to weigh in on this, because I’m just confusing myself now lol

It's just too easy to draw him in dress
