Trojan War - Tumblr Posts
This is exactly the energy that we need. 💅✨
Athena and Hera being evil and cute together (they are consipiring against Troy and Aphrodite, of course)
I love when these two work together, even when they don’t always like each other in other mythology episodes…
I believe this was an old request…
Dude really proved that he's better than Paris. 😭
Athena, Hera and Aphrodite: choose the most beautiful goddess
me: my girlfriend
Athena, Hera and Aphrodite: what?
me: my girlfriend
Athena, Hera and Aphrodite: she’s not even a goddess
Me: I disagree

why is achilles the only demigod who's Like That? like he's my boy but u don't see memnon or aeneas or sarpedon acting like him on the reg. why is he so maladjusted? like specifically? I saw his mother once and was so terrified by the sight of a goddess I flung myself to the ground and hid my face in the dirt til she left but I still don't think that accounts for it idk

I was the one who wrote the achilles/agamemnon 100k slowburn enemies to lovers rpf and put it on the group chat but now patroclus is calling me 'agachilles boy' and laughing about it and asking if I can proofread his mock bardic epic where all his dogs are heroes and killing people, so I fear I've made a mistake. I also can't look achilles in the eye anymore... but honestly I've never seen proof he can read so I might be safe

Classicstober Day 1- Cassandra
This challenge is going to be my excuse to start drawing on paper again.
He really did not want to go on that war. But when he already does, he find it pretty satisfying to make others also feel that pain.
My work from this morning but I had more time
It was in my mind for a long time, but I didn't feel like I had the skills to do it until now
Odysseus just wanna go home. He really does, he's totally done
"When he died, all things soft and beautiful and bright would be buried with him."
Last years of Troyan war was a stolen time and they enjoyed it the best as they could
I'm sorry King Agamemnon, but I don't think my husband can go on the war right now, he's a little bit... Sick, I'm afraid
I'll be draw him again and again until I won't be satisfied
paris was a little bitch BUT Menelaus started a bloody years-long war bc his wife left him and I think that makes him a bigger bitch
omg have you heard the new homer epic yet?? yeah omg it’s so good I ship patrochles sooooo much. you ship hectromache? yeah that’s valid I’m a little conflicted myself bc of the whole thing with hector and achilles haha. yeah. so are you team menelaus or team paris?
Pyrrha's death and the Achilles Allusion
RWBY v3 was a shallow volume. It was a volume rushed to allow for RWBY to transition to something more 'mature' in the eyes of the writers. A good example of this is Pyrrha's death, and the writer's surface-level understanding of the Achilles story.
The Achilles Heel myth has become more famous than Achilles himself. On the level of popular culture I'm not sure most people are aware that in the Iliad Achilles survives to the end of the tale. Others may say that Achilles dies in the Odyssey or in the stories that follow the Iliad in depicting the Trojan War. I personally believe those stories are the Ancient Greek version of Fanfiction, but that's for another post.
The Iliad is, I believe, a story about masculinity. In the absence of Achilles, the most Achaean of all Achaeans, from the war. Each of the Greek Heroes, and Hector, attempt to prove their masculinity by feats of military prowess. But through the war, the Greek Heroes prove inadequate to the task. Royal lineage, cunning, wisdom, brute strength. All of these fail as the war is taken to the Greek Ships and Achilles puts the other Greek Heroes in their place when he takes revenge for Patroclus's death.
But even as Achilles proves himself as the greatest Achaean through the second half of the Iliad, it is only when Priam humbles himself before Achilles that the Hero learns what being a man is really about. Showing compassion and honor in a war that had nearly destroyed both in the passing decade. As Hector's body burns in the pyre of his funeral rites a parallel 'death' of Achilles's rage occurs. The war doesn't end, but Achilles dies to this wrathful past and is reborn after finding peace regarding Patroclus's death.
The power of Achilles's story can only be seen through his life even though he was prophesied to die. After all, Achilles was a soldier in a war, and considering the mortality of humans in general, everyone dies sooner or later. But it is with this urgently imminent presence of death serving as a backdrop that makes Achilles' life so vital. He was going to die. So how was he going to live?
The story of Achilles is one of life. But what does RWBY do with Pyrrha?
"Hurr Durr, Achilles Tendon reference!"
⚠️It does not justify their actions and in a culture and period full of war and suffering⚠️
Not the sun! Apollo after all is the one who loosened Patroclus’ armour, leading to his death. There are other things.
Achilles’ face could be as bright as the waves of the sea on the first day of summer, his smile as wide as the greek army was numerous. His eyes can be as joyful as a child getting their first taste of grownup freedom.
Achilles can be as sweet as the melodies he plays on Patroclus’ mother’s lyre, but he will never be like the sun.
The sun, it is true, is warm and we enjoy its presence. But we can not stare at it for too long, nor approach it. Meanwhile, Patroclus spent almost every hour looking at Achilles, admiring his features like an art expert would look at a rare piece. He embraced and touched Achilles as much as he could.
Achilles was indeed like the center of Patroclus’ world, but he was never scorching, and never violent towards Patroclus.
The sight of Achilles reassured Patroclus at night, and after sunset was the moment when they could let go of their facade and be fully lovers again.
Therefore, i think that Achilles, for Patroclus, was not the sun.
Achilles was his moon.
thinking of achilles and patroclus finally meeting in elysium after thetis marks his name on their grave;
achilles jumps at him and presses his nose against his like he used to in their youth. patroclus holds him, and achilles hides his face on his chest and sobs profusely. achilles cries and cries and cries, asking for forgiveness. patroclus just holds him close, reassuringly, "there's nothing to forgive"— and how could there be? achilles' love for him was so big that it even made the gods fearful. achilles finally looks at him, with tears in his eyes.
he smiled at me, and his face was like the sun.
“No sane person would ever try to climb their sheer, divinely smoothed face.”
-Patroclus, right before trying to climb the wall ten chapters later.
So now the question poses itself, along with its answer.
“Why did Patroclus try to climb the wall?”
Obvious answer: He was not sane.
But why ?
Well, firstly let us remember that he was in the midst of a killing spree; his spears were hitting each of their targets.
Had he not lost his armour, would probably not have been killed. He was about to give the greeks a long awaited victory.
Except that Achilles asked his mother to ask Zeus to make the trojans win as long as Achilles was not on the battlefield.
To all the greeks it seemed that Achilles was on the battlefield, but as we know it was Patroclus.
Patroclus was winning with Achilles’ armour.
Which leads me to believe maybe Zeus was leading his spears to make him kill the men, to bring the greek a victory by Achilles.
Patroclus, emboldened by power, decided to literally climb Troy to get Helen back.
We know Apollo was up there, waiting for him.
My guess is that Apollo saw through his disguise, and clouded his mind with his “godly powers” to make him think it was possible to actually climb.
Then, when Patroclus tried and failed twice to climb, Apollo loosened his armour and made Achilles’ armour fall off of him.
From the moment Patroclus is revealed, his luck turns. The trojans all start attacking him.
Because Achilles wasn’t actually on the battlefield.
Zeus himself didn’t see through their trickery.
But when it was revealed, Zeus was probably mad that they managed to fool even him.
So he kept his part of the bargain.
He tipped the scale in the favour of the Trojans.
And to get revenge on Patroclus and Achilles for their deceit, he made Hector kill Patroclus, knowing Achilles would kill Hector.
Zeus knew Achilles’ death would follow.
Zeus, insulted to have been fooled by mortals, led them to their deaths.
Here ends my theory. Feel free to add on :)
Fine then i’ll put on your armour and go myself
after another day of getting Owned by #trojans and getting yelled at by #commanders nothing beats coming home to patroclus and playing lyre
You're one if not the most influential person in my headcanons, first the skythian tattoo, now this, oh god... So much inspiration!!!!!!
Isn't it freaking adorable how both Odysseus and Penelope could remember down to exact detail what clothing she had packed for Odysseus before he left for war even 20 years later?!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
And she packed them herself. She didn't use the help of any servant or slave to do it. She wanted to prepare her husband herself. What is even more is that all the clothes were of vibrant colors which had me thinking;
What if Penelope deliberately prepared vibrant colored clothes for Odysseus solely so that she could see him from afar for as long as possible?! And man I can so imagine her doing the same! Like standing on the top of the hill where the palace is, wearing a vibrant dress that floats in the wind, holding baby Telemachus in her arms and watch Odysseus's bright tunic on the ship and Odysseus turning his head to look up at that aetherial figure on the hill almost leaning over the ship to see her JUST FOR A LITTLE LONGER until he cannot see her anymore and this is where he keeps looking at his island becoming smaller and smaller to the horizon, shedding tears of goodbye

The Song Of Achilles
I met you when I was twelve. Just a scrawny little kid with curls in his hair.
You always sat separately, didn't fawn over me like everyone else.
Was it then I fell in love with you?
Was it when you kissed me on the beach?
Was it when you left my father's house to chase after me?
Was it when you loved me in silence every night not knowing I did just the same?
Was it when you came to a foreign land looking for me?
I will let you in on a secret Patroclus.
I loved you from the moment I laid my eyes on you.
The moment you caught the fig I threw at you.
The moment you came with me to watch me fight.
The moment you came with me to listen to my father's stories.
I loved you Patroclus.
I loved you when you wore my armour and fought in my stead.
I loved you when I held you for the last time.
I loved you when they burned you on a pyre.
I loved you when I fought a river God.
I loved you when I killed Hector.
Because how could I not love you Patroclus?
The best of Greeks.
The best part of me.
