The three firebrands (and guests)- Incorrect Quotes Part 23

Stellan: I love you guys, you're the best thing that's happened to me.

Elzar: We're the best thing that's ever happened to you?

Stellan: Yes!

Avar: I'm starting to feel a little sorry for you.

Avar: Self care is actually getting into fights with randoms in dark alleys.

Stellan: No, self care is stuff like taking a bubble bath, or reading if you like it, or taking a nice warm nap!

Elzar: Self care is taking your birthday cake just so I can eat the frosting.

Avar: If you touch my birthday cake I’ll make you eat your hands.

Avar: *accidently hits her head*

Stellan, rushing over: I got an ice pack from the freezer.

Elzar, next to him: I helped, are you alright

Avar: Why do you have chocolate on your face?

Elzar: The Ice Pack was under a pie.

Avar: So you ate your way to it?

Elzar: I made a judgment call, Stellan was a coward. You weren’t there.

Y/N is a strong-willed herbalist who knows exactly what she wants; she also happens to make some really good tea. Taehyung is a kind but rebellious prince who doesn’t really know what he wants but he knows that the commoner girl who makes fantastic tea can’t be this damn cute.

pairing: prince!taehyung x herbalist!reader

word count: 10k

genre: fluff, smut, prince au

warnings: the smut scene was meant to be a cute one but somehow it turned filthy and I accidentally made Tae into a raging dom oops

A/N: Header created by me! Inspired by one of my favorite animes ever: Snow White with the Red Hair.

CHAPTERS: 01 | 02

PART TWO

Prince Taehyung was never a tea person. So imagine the castle staff’s surprise when he began to request homemade tea every night from to room.

You remembered the first time a maid came and found you about the prince’s request for your tea. You nodded politely back at her, but couldn’t help the smile that crept onto your face.

Even when you arrived at the prince’s door, tray in hand, your smile still didn’t let up.

Night after night you made Taehyung tea, sitting at the foot of his bed as he always managed to convince you to stay and chat for a while. Taehyung spoke to you about anything and everything; he liked the way you spoke bluntly and didn’t shrink yourself around him. Even when the tea was gone and the initial conversation had died, he’d find new things to talk about, no matter how unimportant, just because he liked the sound of your voice.

“What?” You asked one night, noticing that Taehyung had been staring at you for the past few minutes.

“Nothing. I just really like hearing you talk is all.” Taehyung confessed softly, causing you to glance down at your empty teacup, unable to meet his sincere eyes.

the bedtime contract

➢  pairing: taehyung x reader

➢  genre: roommate!au, major fluff and a sprinkle of angst

➢  word count: 13.4k

➢  a/n: testing out different styles of writing! so this may be a tad different than my usual angst-y writing.

➢  summary: life could have been so much better if you didn’t end up living with him because then you wouldn’t have to sign a stupid contract to help you sleep better at night.

The dorm smelled like old wood and a fresh start.

Walking into the depths of your new home, even if it was temporary, seemed surreal— too surreal. Ever since you were little in a small town, the one thing that you looked forward to was growing up and being able to live without the rules invoked by your parents along with them breathing down your neck, expecting for the best from you.

We are always amazed by the couple where we have mentally ill and mentally stable person.... couple where the stable person helps the unstable one find the way out of the labyrinth in their minds and stuff....

But what about couples where both are unstable ? Where they both need to find ways out ? Where they are both lost in their minds and thoughts but still help eachother not to get lost even more....

I think it's so amazing that they CAN help eachother find lost path in life and not loose themselves.

Clearing my following list. I'm pretty tired of seeing discourse and rant texts all over my dash thank you very much.

NOTE: Please don't take this personally! I'm not saying ranting or being salty is "bad". But I'm in so much stress lately and I'd rather not deal with too much negativity for a LONG while.

So yeah, a very unimportant post I'm just dropping, please don't mind.

wisteria; whom do you admire and why? & lilac; if you could go back in time which time period would you visit?

Yayy, thank you for asking!! 💙💙

wisteria; whom do you admire and why?

Alright, I’m gonna lean into fandom and say Tony Stark here. Not because there aren’t real people I admire or anything, but because he exemplifies a lot of qualities that I admire in people. He’s not a perfect person at all, of course, and there’s also qualities I’m less fond of, but...

To me, he reminds me that it’s never too late to turn things around. It’s never too late to look at things, to see they are Not Right, and to change them. He doesn’t forget what’s gone wrong, doesn’t forget the mistakes he’s made, but he doesn’t let those keep him down. And to me, it is really important to see that it’s never too late, as long as you don’t give up.

lilac; if you could go back in time which time period would you visit?

Hmmm... There’s periods I’d like to see, people I’d like to meet, but I think if I really had to make a choice, I’d go back to when I was younger, when things weren’t going well in a lot of ways and I needed someone. And I’d sit with myself, and listen, and try to help out. I’d tell myself some of the things I needed to hear back then and people couldn’t tell me for various reasons. I’d let myself cry, and rage, and I’d give myself a hug.

thinking about emily's place being pretty much entirely undecorated because she's always expecting to have to leave, both from her childhood as the daughter of a US ambassador and her adulthood with Interpol. thinking about her getting sergio because she finally feels safe and settled enough in her new life to get something permanent. and then. and then.

So WTNV succeeded in getting me into Alice Isn’t Dead. It’s already made me gasp out loud so many times; Night Vale is cute and quirky and funny and loveable, but Alice isn’t Dead is just so much more genuinely eerie and spooky. This episode was more on the poignant and pensive end of the spectrum, and this comic really captures it expertly. I also like that the artist didn’t skip over the bit with the pizza-making, too. It was just such a warm and lovely flashback, but also part of an important meditation on what makes life meaningful which really throws into relief the tragedy of Jackie.

Glad I read this. It was something I needed to hear. ❤️

In fanfiction there is a difference between being a good writer and a popular writer.

Just because you can write a well-structured story with dynamic and consistent writing and characters doesn’t mean you will be popular. And sometimes stories that have disorganized plots, mediocre writing, and/or OOC characters will be held up as the greatest things to ever exist.

Just because your writing isn’t popular doesn’t mean you are a bad writer. Don’t ever compromise who you are, who your characters are, your plot, your writing style, anything for the sake of readership.

There are popular writers everywhere. But there are only so many good writers.

Realized my biggest issue with many "skeptical" characters in fiction. Often, the things they are skeptical of - magic, aliens, etc - are things that don't exist in our world, but which are perfectly provable in the world in question and can even be studied and understood through scientific investigation. The skeptic may lack clear understanding and/or access to this thing, but there is still plenty of evidence that it exists.

Thus, it is the skeptic's lack of understanding, rather than a genuine lack of in-universe evidence for the thing, which leads to their disbelief. Skepticism towards these things then reads less to me like a "scientist" mindset, and more like the kind of self-serving personal bias that, e.g., leads some men to assume that all women must be natural caregivers obsessed with babies and unfit for fighting, regardless of what evidence exists to the contrary.

The fact that these characters are so often presented as the "scientist" character, then, honestly does a lot to explain how so many real people can hear all the scientific evidence in support of things like global warming or women/queers/poc/etc being people just like them, and still think of themselves as "just rational skeptics trying to look at the situation ~logically~" every time they manage to scrounge up (or flat-out manufacture) a single piece of supposed evidence that supports their personal bias instead.

I think the other really important distinction that gets lost is fandom stories published on e.g. ao3 vs. stories that are marketed and sold by publishing houses/Hollywood/whatever for the purpose of making money off the people who will pay to consume that story.

In the second case, there is a limited amount of resources that can be invested into a limited number of stories, and those stories have to be both well written enough to be readable and compelling to an audience and thus worth that audience spending money on them, and have enough broad appeal that the people putting in resources to create this thing and get it out into the world will get back more than they put in. In this case, the thing to do is make it clear that you as an audience member want more diverse stories, and that lots of other people do to. At the same time, advocate for more diverse writers/editors/artists/etc to be hired or given a chance on their work (and advocate for more hiring diversity across the board, tbh).

In the first case though, literally this is the easiest space to add more diversity to the collection of stories available for people to read. Sign up for an account, and write a story. It's not great, because you aren't the best writer? Your fic is full of so many plot holes it could be mistaken for swiss cheese? You struggle with motivation and can only write little things that get like 20 kudos and were maybe read by 100 people each? That's okay, half the fanfiction full of tropes you hate is in the same boat!

But maybe one of those people who read your fic was inspired to write their own with some of those ideas that you wanted to see. Maybe they shared it with a friend who writes, or got inspired to create some new headcanons that inspired a stranger a few steps down the line on tumblr. Maybe none of that happened the first dozen times you wrote a little drabble of a story, but over time you found yourself writing better things, writing longer things, writing with more nuance and care and energy that comes from practicing a thing until the parts that used to exhaust you now give you energy back instead, and one day you look at your ao3 account and realize that the latest story you wrote was actually really good and people loved it.

And while you're writing those stories of your own, or still practicing but haven't quite gotten up to a full story you want to share just yet, go find some things you love that other people wrote and give them a comment, even if it's just to say, "Nice story! I love how creative this was!" Share some headcanons of your own on tumblr, and share other people's headcanons that you'd like to see more of. Bookmark the stories that you think are worth sharing with other people. Bookmark tabs with stories that you maybe didn't love-love but did want to leave a comment on, if only you had more energy to leave a comment, so that you can come back and leave that comment later.

Create the kind of content you want to see, and support other people who are creating content you find interesting even if it's not the best story you've ever read.

Fandom is the easiest place to leave your own mark, to create your own content and share it with other fans. At the same time, plenty of fans are young and still learning, or older but new to this whole "fandom" gig, or tentatively returning after time away, or older and still learning because we are all still learning new things no matter how long we've been around, and the best way to encourage them to stick around and keep growing is to be kind. To be supportive when you read something and liked it even a bit, even enough just to say, "That was fun! Thank you for writing and sharing it!"

There is such a strange, nuanced distinction between a trope being okay at the micro-level and problematic at the macro level, and I don’t think we appreciate it enough.

Like, let’s take one trope for example: the old 80′s “career woman is unfulfilled and unhappy until she Finds Love and quits her job for a man.”

I think a lot has been said about this being a sexist trope. But I would argue that on its own, it’s actually… fine? It could even be an important story to someone, depending on execution. Because, well–work isn’t fulfilling for most people! Lots of workers, even in very high earning jobs, get burned out and are sort of encouraged to stay in this unhealthy rat race where all that matters is make line go up.

Of course a relationship can be more fulfilling than a job! Damn!

But. But.

While an individual story about a woman going “work sucks, fuck this, I actually just want to have a torrid romance and leave to have wild sex with a muscley lumberjack in the hills” doesn’t necessarily have to be sexist…. that kind of story being the overwhelming majority is.

One snowflake is harmless. A snowstorm is not.

One story about a woman being better off not working is harmless. Every single story being about it, in a culture that pressures women into having less independence and power, is not.

So then what do you do? Do you tell everyone who wants to write their cheesy lumberjack romcom to stop? Will that even work?

Further explanation of Nia and Clive's relationship because of the info already shown in the chart!

CW: secs and weird stuff(? mucho texto

1. Their earlier interactions were just curious stares and that was annoyiiing. They didn't talk- I think Clive didn't even notice Nia at the start but she was already upset at him and taking everything he did personally. Like "that guy invading my safe space again", and "ugh, he must be following me, what a creep" whenever they found each other in the same place. Anyway, she easily changes her mind and starts to develop a crush on him for simple reasons

omg he male -> we see each other really often by pure chance it must be like some novel or something -> he's so polite, he would treat me right (he's just a normal person)

So I don't consider them "slowburn", they just too stupid actually interact, but after finally noticing Nia's weird behavior Clive tries to talk to her, being curious about her and all of her... strange actions. From there everything goes really fast, Nia is too trusting and blunt, she says everything that's on her mind and so she's the first to show vulnerability, and also she gets interested in whatever he's doing in the library like "hey, you always here for the same thing? Like... You need help? I love reading anything, no problem" (chismosaaa)

2. Ohh, there's when she finds out he has a job, cuz she was convinced that he was still studying lol. I never pay too much attention to their age gap because both of them thought they were around each other's age because of their appearances and because of that they feel like they can only be attracted to each other (Clive's demi so he doesn't care about looks at all / "Clive would never get laid with that baby face" but Nia doesn't care! She would have sex with anyone who treats her with the slightest of kindness)

Ehem- talking too much about Nia's weird behavior we need to get to the point.

3. Their relationship is kinda weird sometimes. They like being together, they love each other's company, they always crave each other's understanding, but calling the other "girlfriend/boyfriend/partner/whatever" doesn't feel right. They don't want to feel like the other's possession, and that certain role feels totally like it. They can't let go of their individuality, so they avoid considering themselves a "couple"

They're just people that happen to be "the one" for the other, that's it.

Ok now. Clive feels at peace with Nia's company. He likes her place since she lives in a really chill community, a bit far from the big city, so visiting her is like having some fresh air. But what's more important to him is that she treats him with kindness, like the vulnerable child that he is deep inside. She is always understanding, she's warm, caring, maybe even worrisome, she pampers him with a lot of affection, just like a mother should do.

Nia actually likes treating him like that. Ever since he told her about his parents she can't help but see him as a lonely, abandoned child, just like the one she left behind. Maybe internally she still feels guilty for abandoning that child, for not wanting him in the first place, and she's trying to convince herself that she could have been a good mother. She became very selfless because she feels unworthy of self-care so she cares about others.

So yeah, they have this uhh kind of familial bond too.

4. I want to talk about the contrast with the sexual aspect of their relationship but I'm embarrassed buuut I also feel like "fuck it, you're 18, you can talk about sex" so... yeah... I'm... I leave it for later... maybe
