Writing for the Al Ghul Family is so difficult. For Example I want to write Damian as a character who struggles with right and wrong. Like he does frequently in canon. Then I also want to write Talia as someone who is morally grey and compassionate. But it's difficult to write a kid who is so angry and entitled but then deny how a large part of that is because of how the Al Ghul's raised him. How can I write a caring, compassionate mother Talia al Ghul when her kid is struggling with so much, let's be honest, abuse.

But then I fall into the trap of making it sound like Batdad is a great parent when in a lot of cases he isn't. Like I'm making Talia Al Ghul to be an evil parent just to make Bruce sound like a good parent. I despise the whole Batfamily is good and the Al Ghul Family is evil, black and white nonsense. Especially when the Batfamily has also fucked up with their own quite frequently.

Not to mention if you make the argument that raising your kids as assassins is bad then how can someone make the argument that Bruce training kids to fight crime around the ages of 10-12 years old as any better?

I just want to write morally grey Al Ghul family but I keep on falling into the trap that is called canon and it is really hard to get out of it. At this point it's difficult to write the Al Ghul's as anything but evil.

Anyways thank you for listening to me vent my internal struggles.

My condolences to any other writers out there who are suffering the same fate.

(Don't mind me, just yet again pushing the Jason Todd ft T. S. Eliot agenda because I dislike the concept of happiness)

I think it would be good if we had Robin!Jason be like a creepy kid. Like you know these characters in teen movies you see on vhs that talk like they know they're about to die in a tragic trampoline accident? I want a whole Batman series where Jason is Robin and he's still in character, all tiny funny and brave and adorable, but also at least once per episode he will look at the smoke rising from his cigarette and say some shit like "Do you think the souls of the people who die in fire scatter and vanish like ashes into the air?"

Jaybin, for absolutely no reason, on his fifteenth birthday: hey can you pass me the camera I wanna make a video for the members of the family I haven't met yet and tell them about how Robin is magic and life is beautiful and we should all really appreciate it because life is short and we never know what might happen. Oh and might taking a shot of me walking down the beach? Yeah that's a good idea.

Featuring my inability to draw profiles and messing up the execution of Tim's design -Jason's was very fun to play with though.

Have some magical girl!Jaybin while I scream about part two of chapter 6 of The Protector. This baby is about to get betrayed by a parental figure, brutally tortured, and murdered. At least that will get him out of the ugly colour scheme.

Jason, Constellation of the Robin Classic Transformation:

-Flight

-Enhanced athletics

-Limited Regeneration

-Colour Swirl: raises a colourful wave that rains concussive damage on his opponents, effectively stoning them with colourful magical energy.

-Starlit Labyrinth: While in the streets of Gotham, Jason has the ultimate high ground. He is able of finding the way out of any alley, like a thread only he can see out of a maze, and is capable of creating illusions of alleys and walls to better hide and lure his enemies into dead ends. This leaves him at a disadvantage when travelling in places away from Gotham like say, for example, Ethiopia.

It's Timmy's turn with the magical girl beam! He's the only one to not have inherited his powers or been hit by the fallen starlight on accident, instead choosing to absorb the Robin crystal core (extracted from Jason's corpse by Bruce) to save Batman.

Tim: Constellation of the Robin, Classic Transformation: Powers include:

-Colour Swirl: Robin waves his magic wand and assaults his enemies with a wave of colourful energy that feels like being pelted with stones.

I was having feelings about Victor Hugo's poem "Demain dès l'aube" (Tomorrow at Dawn) about his grief following the death of his daughter and Bruce losing Jason and I wanted to make a little comic with the text, but I'm scared to draw Bruce and can't seem to get the angel statue right, so here's a spotty translation of the poem so that you, too, can feel sad about it. Choices and sacrifices were made to keep the rythm and most significant parts, things got lost in translation that I couldn't salvage, but I still hope it helps sharing a little of its beauty.

This isn't even the poem I've read that fits them best, far from it, but I keep picturing Bruce walking from the cave (leaving the Robin suit) through Crime Alley to the cemetery and being sad about it and now you get to be sad too.

I'm always thinking about Jason because fixation so my judgement is biaised because every song I listen to makes me think about at least one of my Jasons, but here are some songs though were definitely written for and about canon Jason Todd, and I will take no criticism (but you are definitely welcome to add your own songs):

I always rant about how how Jason's character and story is centered around love, this is the song that plays in my head while I'm yapping

If you ever wanna be sad about Jason's resurrection, catatonia and stolen childhood, this is the song to listen to

Crime Alley united!!! Also, "tell the big guy I said hello" :))) (the God/Batman amalgam in Death in the Family is such an incredible one-liner and works so well for Jason omg)

The amount of angst, dramatics and intense devotion to his cause at the cost of his life, the literature references, everything about this song? Jason at his angstiest for sure

exploded warehouse parallel aside, this song feels like not being able to heal because you're not capable of asking for what you really need, wanting to come back but feeling like you aren't allowed to because it would ruin you or the you that was shaped by other's perception of you and most importantly, begging to matter and to have mattered. So. Jason.

Imma need to read about street kids Jason and Billy meeting because these two are on opposite ends of the homeless twelve years old spectrum and by that I mean I can't believe Jason was the one who got accidentally trafficked*:

Jason: *successfully steals 3/4 tires of the batmobile, says "who says I took'em" and "try and catch me you big boob", hits Batman with a tire iron, successfully escapes capture for a couple of blocks, really makes him work for it.*

Billy: *is accosted by a stranger in a turncoat at night asking him what he's doing here*: "I am homeless and I have no money so I sleep in the subway because it is warm." /The stranger: "follow me."/ Billy: *immediately fucking does.*

Like, if I were Shazam I too would be giving Billy godlike abilities, because with these preservation instincts that looks like about the only way this kid is gonna live through the winter.

*I'm talking about Ma'gunn, pretty sure that counts as child trafficking.

Btw you don't need christian Jason Todd to have self-aware christian imagery Jason Todd, he just needs to have read Paradise Lost
