counterpoint because parallelism funny:
you will not find a more perfect, cozy darkness in the farthest illuminated corners of our cruel, uncaring world than that with which my heart cradles a love for mathematics. There is no subject more conducive to naive exploration nor endless discursive sharing than mathematics, none more deserving of happy practitioners, and none that provides such power to its enjoyers, provided they are willing to slow down and smell the roses that provide actual understanding. I cannot stress enough how tantamount avoiding math is for our collective sanity, and yet I choose to dance the eternal precipice of madness for where else can I stare into the void with such perfect meaningless clarity? Itβs enforced continuation as a requirement in higher education is solely a method by affluent institutions to weed out economic undesirables, which is made all the more inexcusable by how fucking awesome math can be when taught well. And though the morals and virtues of the system that maintains it are in many ways deplorable, I choose to impose a better vision of what math can be on the world around me.
you will not find a more perfect, tar-rich blackness in the ozymandian depths of our extended universe than the blackness festering within my heart for mathematics. there is no subject nearly as devoid of love or compassion, none more thoroughly dedicated to the agony and persecution of innocent minds, none more worthy of scorn, defranchisement, and derision by anyone who is remotely concerned with the maintenance and direction of our educational system and its future. i cannot stress how tantamount the importance of avoiding math is for our collective sanity. its enforced continuation as a requirement in higher education is solely a method by affluent institutions to weed out economic undesirables, and its continued existence is a mere pastiche of the crocodile-tear morals and virtues of a tech industry utterly hellbent on sucking the blood of our children and razing the acres of our labor.
Bertrand Russell and Jonathan Sims are both englishmen who did terrifying things with the power of unrestricted comprehension. In this way they are alike.

I hate math so much.
pre calc was a year of random stuff that only showed up again if I was bad at it.
ab calc at least fit together (it was still hard though)
now I'm taking bc calc and struggling to do my summer work cause everything they think i did last year (most people are coming from pre calc) had NOTHING to do with what i did last year and I've forgotten everything ;-;

Anyone else learn languages designed to be proof assistants? Or atleast designed with theorem proving as a usecase. Whilst barely knowing any pure Math?
When I first started learning Idris2, I had no idea how to even structure a proof. Needless to say I was quite lost, even if I was experienced in Haskell at that point.
Even now when I'm learning Lean, when I started which was about 5 days ago, I only knew how to prove with truth tables. It wasn't until yesterday when I found about the logics other than Classical.
So basically all I know about pure math is just me brute-forcing my way into learning languages like Idris as well as the occasional Haskell article or codewars kata ethat deep dives into a concept.
It wasn't until recently when I decided to finally sit down and learn Pure Math starting from basic Discrete Math. It's fun because I keep recognizing the concepts that's become commonplace in the languages I use. I learned about Connection intros and eliminations before knowing the difference between classical and intuitionistic logic.
What I'm saying is I love Curry-Howard correspondence
Growing up is being neutral at best about maths throughout school only to accidentally fall in love with it later on in life

When you have to understand in 10 minutes what took people centuries to come up with. It indeed was "quite difficult to grasp"

"Will you fake-marry me, so I can continue studying math?"
