Bsd Thoughts - Tumblr Posts
So I'm rewatching bsd and I have some thoughts about Atsushis "father" ep
Dazai needed this to happen almost as much as atsushi did
Dazai needed to know how much this would hurt atsushi because of akutagawa. Dazai is starting to set up a team up between atsushi and Aku which will need him to interact with Aku a lot. Dazai knows how wrong it was what he did and even tho the orphanage was way more brutal than he was Dazai needed to know what the other end would do if they wanted forgiveness or to try and make up for their past fuckedupidness
It won't be the same but Dazai will have an idea on what Aku might go through interacting with him again (And might find out ways he could ease that pain for Aku)
Dazai wants to be careful around Aku, he knows he is way too important to Aku for him to disobey or leave him so the reason behind Dazai doing this was because he genuinely wants to change for the better and is desperate to believe he is capable of that, this is a huge step for him and he wants to be careful not to mess up because that would mean he is as bad as he believes he rlly is and he has spent the last few years trying his hardest to be someone that can help people and to make sure he is someone oda would be happy to see
SO I just read the dead apple manga and found out about the extra dragon head conflict bit
What if Dazai went through with that plan BECAUSE of Chuuya
He knew Chuuya was taking all of it hard and Dazai probably knew they wouldn't get to the others that were captured in time so he set up the plan that would involve Chuuya saving him so Chuuya didn't think that he couldn't save anyone
My guess the "There are now new spaces to become executives" line was to test Chuuya, Dazai just wanted to see how he'd react so he knew how to go about the plan or if he should go through with the plan at all
ALSO just wanna mention the "I'm human too" line DAZAI FUCKING KNOWING CHUUYA NEVER SAW HIMSELF AS HUMAN
Dazai you rascal
Just thoughts the Worms in my head told me to write down
Listen tf up
Chuuya gave Dazai a reason to live
This is what started his journey on finding a reason to live
At 15 Dazai was fully actively trying to die
It was different to the season 1 or just any older version of him
When he was with Mori mixing 2 chemicals together to die and going to drink it that was probably the closest we've seen him to go through with an attempt
Although even at that time even if it was subconsciously Dazai was looking for reasons not to die
Sometimes it just being, I have stuff to do or I haven't found a good method yet
He wants to die but he's been subconsciously looking for excuses on why he's delaying it (excuses for himself)
He didn't drink the chemicals cause Mori had a job for him which was just another reason for him to delay his death for just a little longer
Dazai made it clear he saw no reason in living and lacked a will to live
He joined the mafia to find that will to live through observing others desperate attempts to survive but it hadn't worked at all and he still felt he lacked a will to live and had learnt nothing
SO
Spending a decent amount of time with Chuuya getting to observe another kid his age was probably rlly educational for Dazai, he wanted to learn from Chuuya
Once Dazai found out about Chuuyas curouption it was mind blowing to him
He had never seen anything like it before and the fact Chuuya NEEDED him to use it
Dazai probably found that comforting
Chuuya showed Dazai how strong his will to live was
Chuuya showed him how interesting the world can be and there is sm more for Dazai to explore
In the middle of battle Dazai decided he was going to try to live
It was the experience
Hanging out with Chuuya (a kid his age who understands what it's like to be fucked up) solving a mystery, looking for clues, playing arcade games against someone, solving a riddle and then an intense battle
Dazai had enjoyed this little adventure
Dazai felt that Chuuya was the one who could show him what he didn't even realise he'd been looking for
Reasons to live
Dazai planned for Chuuya to come into the mafia (so did Mori obviously what a scoundrel)
The part where Dazai was angry that Chuuya wouldn't be working under him, he was fucking angry that he wouldn't spend more time with Chuuya like DAZAI COME ON at least make it a little more subtle
Dazai never found a will to live in the mafia (I think he found that when he came into the Ada) ((Oda you wise soul, saving our bbg))
But Chuuya was a huge step for Dazai to continue living
They were partners
Chuuya relied on him
He had to look out for his partner
Chuuya gave Dazai solid reasons to keep living until he was able to find a will to live
Chuuya helped Dazai cope (and I'm pretty sure neither of them fuckin knew about it)
The father episode
SO THEY LEFT OUT INFORMATION FROM THE MANGA IN THE ANIME ON THAT EPISODE
AND NOW ITS TIME TO ANALYSE IT
FIRST Atsushi
This was more of a realisation for me than anything
I saw Atsushi as sort of latching onto Dazai and Dazai being sort of a parental figure but that was never the direction things went in and I'm so happy about that (not anything about the writing it was just my tiny brain misjudging my poor cat boy)
Atsushi sees all of the people in the ADA as close friends, found family even
But there isn't a person he always goes to when things go wrong, he faces them himself and works them out hiself
WHICH IS WHY KYOUKA CAME IN
Kyouka should've been the sign of
Atsushi is putting his past behind him and is ready to accept and help others knowing he can do better than his "father" did
This was showing he didn't need a parental figure cause he can look after others
Usually characters have parental figures when they are rlly young and are shown to not be able to or refuse to take care of others
Atsushi is ready to take care of people who need him now
In the father episode Dazai was there and he set it up but even Akutagawa says that Dazai wasn't the father figure, it was "the guy in the picture" and it always has been
Akutagawa is the one who needs/has a father figure, he basically says Dazai is his father figure
THE PARALLELS OF ATSUSHI AND AKU ARE INSANE
Aku was in a similar abusive situation to Atsushi (father figure beating the ever living shit out of them) ((big daddy issues basically))
Aku was taken in at 14 by Dazai and spent what's known as the most important years of people's lives under Dazai
These years are big in defining who people are, it's the years you can finally understand the world and your place in it
Aku spending those years with Dazai was fucked, Dazai is known to be able to manipulate the shit out of almost anyone, of course he'd been doing that to Aku, he needed Aku to improve and do as he says and Dazai went about this the only way he knew how, manipulation. This lead Aku down a road of constantly striving for Dazais approval because that's how Dazai wired his lil emo brain
Now Dazai is part of the Ada and is trying to be a better person and actually taking responsibility for his actions (sort of) he understands what he did to Aku and he understands he needs to offer at least some assistance in helping him out, the way Dazai seems to think my thoughts are that Dazai would think it would be best to leave Aku to figure it out by hisself, this actually works with Dazai pairing Atsushi and Aku together, Atsushi can show Aku that he doesn't need Dazais approval at all, obviously it'll take time for Aku to even consider this information but it's clear what Atsushi and Aku say to eachother they rlly take it to heart and consider what the other have said in order to improve themselves.
I've been thinking about Aku taking in Kyouka for a while and the parallels it has to Atsushi taking in Kyouka
It feels like Aku taking in Kyouka and training her at 14 feels like a direct reference to Dazai and Aku
Aku wants someone to see him as he sees Dazai
He wants to be understood, he wants someone else to understand how important this is for him
He trained Kyouka probably the only way he knew how which was the way Dazai trained him. ( I say trained but I'm pretty sure Aku was just in charge and she didn't need training but you get what I'm getting at he showed her the ropes) (( and possibly his fist)) ((I'm pretty sure kouyou was the one who trained Kyouka)) When he spoke to Kyouka later he says hes happy for her, he understands that she'll never understand him but he can't seem to help but see himself in her, a 14 year old kid taken in by the mafia whose lost all will to live (sound familiar COUGH COUGH DAZAI) Aku found his light (Dazai) and understands that Atsushi is Kyoukas light and not him
This brings me back to the point of Atsushi not needing a parental figure because he's ready to help people
Aku took in Kyouka when Dazai had left, Aku thinking he didn't need a parental figure anymore and is ready to "help" another
This wasn't true at all which is why Kyouka was the one that left him
Aku needs a father figure because he isn't ready for the world yet
Parental figures are meant to prepare you for the world
Dazai hadn't finished doing this and left (because he himself wasn't ready to help another yet and later finds he is when he brings in Atsushi)
The difference is Dazai was the one that left Aku and not like Kyouka being the one who left Aku (this poor homosexual everyone leaving him including his eyebrows)
Just some more things the worms in my brain strung together
Dying to stay alive. Why does Fyodor Dostoevsky enjoy being killed on purpose? Bsd analysis

Why Dostoevsky looks so young despite living for centuries? I think it's because he often gets killed. He literally has no time to age.
His skin care routine is being murdered every year or so. Maybe, even more often.
Fyodor CAN age, he isn't immune to it. He isn't immortal. He's ability isn't about eternal youth. He can get gray hair and wrinkles. But he doesn't. Dostoevsky looks almost identical to how he's been when he's met Bram centuries ago (minus a scar and an outfit). So why is it?
Let's assume that the physical "age" Fyodor naturally gains can be transferred to the new body he enters. And the only things that get "erased" are traces of harm left by someone else (bruises, cuts, scars, etc.)
Let's pretend that we know Fyodor's "biological" age. And it's 20. (That's just an assumption for this example!)
It would go like this: Fyodor's biologically 20. He lives until his 22, than gets killed. His "new" body will have the age of 22. Then he lives until he's 26 and dies unnaturally. He's biological age in the new body is gonna be 26.
And so on and so on. It means both his appearance and physic will gradually change. But we see NONE OF THAT. Present Fyodor is almost a twin copy of Fyodor from the past.
It means that Dostoevsky has never lived longer than a couple of years max without dying and respawning into a new body. He probably dies quit often and can't even get old enough because he simply doesn't have time.
Maybe, he has some mark on his calendar: "Need to die every year to keep my body young and relative healthy". And it's a strategy and nothing else. But I feel like there is more to that.
Dostoevsky probably enjoys the thrill of death (or near death) experience for various reasons.
People sometimes describe Dazai as a "suicide-addict", but THIS is a new level of it. These two share a hobby of trying to die often. But Dostoevsky not just tries. He dies. Fyodor's way of getting a rid of his stress is being brutally murdered by someone else. I wounder, if Dazai knew it how it would make him feel? To find out that Fyodor is drawn to death in the same way that he is? We'll find out eventually.
Dostoevsky meticulously got himself killed probably more than 300+ times or so. And, yes, sometimes it was work related incidents due to his plans. But he didn't HAVE to die so often, did he?
It honestly seems, that for Fyodor "dying" is just an extracurricular activity he does to pass the time. Some ppl go their friend's house to play video games. And Fyodor goes to someone's place -> dies there.
Maybe, Dostoy tries to connect with people by "dying" by their hands? When he transfers his mind into a new body, it makes him feel less lonely, somehow?
For example, Fyodor didn't have to break into Bram's castle and chat him up about demons. He didn't have to put his life on a line just to see how Bram would react to his musings about world-politics. He knew he would die, obviously. But he went anyway. Just to "catch a glimpse" of Bram (in his own words). And then, of course to get murdered. Did he hope that Bram would be the one to deliver a final blow? Did Fyodor secretly want to "posses" Bram's body from that long, long time ago?
You know how ppl joked about Fyodor's hobby being captured on purpose? Add "dying" to this list, asap.
He's reasons for overusing his ability to "reincarnate" are probably complicated.
A part of it is a need to escape/ease his guilt. Dostoy wants to feel like a martyr that has a right to commit sin. Maybe, it's his own self-punishment, a form of self-harm. He believes these short or long moments of agony "erase" the harm he does to others or, at least, balance it out.
On the other hand, Fyodor is still a human who wants to belong. But he spent decades in paranoia and isolation that affected him immensely. So now the only "true" connection Dostoevsky can create with someone is when he inserts his consciousness into their body. The flow of new feelings/goals keeps him distracted from himself and his bleak view of the reality. So he does it over and over.
Or is it just a boredom thing? Like living is such a drug he can't help but try to die?
Dostoy is too afraid/guilty to go to heaven right away so he passes time by adding bits of different personalities to himself. He has this semi-free subscription to people's agendas, he only has to die to access them. It keeps him entertained. Like a Netflix but he has to die to watch a "movie" from someone's POV, with their goals/emotions intact still.
Dostoy wants to pick up a new passion/hobby? No problem. He just needs to find someone who likes that particular interest, and than get murdered by that person. Then Fyodor can gain their insights into the topic (possibly).
I wish I could see the way Dostoevsky envisions humanity. It seems like he's both enmeshed with it to the point of losing himself and at the same time he's discarded by humanity and isolated from it.
It's such a mixed-up experience. No wounder Fyodor's mind is soโฆ Bizarre.
Major furry alert!
WHAT IF FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY WILL BE KILLED BY AN ANIMAL?

How will it work out? Will he get reincarnated into an animal body, and it will turn into a human one somehow?
Or maybe, just maybe, we'll get some more interesting combinations? ๐ A hybrid? With one half-animal and one half-human part?
Also, will Fyodor get infected with animal habits or behaviors? Will he start craving grass or hunt for prey? Will he get a sudden urge to walk on all fours? Will he start sniffing stuff or make animal noises?
Just think about it. What if the one who kills Fyodor is an insect.
WHAT. IF. FYODOR. GETS. TAKING OUTโฆ BY AN INFECTED MOSQUITO ๐ฆ? (they transfer many diseases)
MOSQUITO FYODOR.

He goes Zzz for the crimes you did. You can't hide from him. No one's safe anymore. A true menace to the world.

Fyodor doesn't love himself. And what do people do when they feel like that? They hope to find someone who can.
But Dostoevsky craves a very specific type of love, the one which paints a halo over his head. One that's bright enough to outshine all of his sins. He wants to be seen as savior. As a good person, despite the deeds he's committed.
So Fyodor rejects all the other types of โloveโ he's been offered. He wants only an Ideal one and nothing more.
Because let's be honest, even people who are deeply devoted to him (like Gogol) don't see Fyodor as a good person. โDecay of ages is pure evil, that's why I joined itโโthat's a paraphrased quote from Nikolai. Yes, he admires Fyodor with all of his heart. But whatever morality is left in Gogol realizes that Fyodor is pretty messed up and the things that he's doing are bad. But of course, in Nikolai's case, that makes teaming up with Dostoy even more attractive.
The only, and I mean only, person who seemed to see Fyodor as a holy savor was Ivan Goncharov. And for that to happen, Dostoy literally had to drive an ice pick into his brain. A lobotomy was successful, so Ivan thought that Fyodor was a god-sent on a mission to save everyone. And ironically enough, Ivan was one of the few subordinates Fyodor didn't set up to directly dispose off afterward. He is in jail, but at the very least, Dostoy hasn't arranged his assassination personally. In a way, he spared Ivan. Maybe, because the later admired him so much, and saw Fyodor in the way he wanted: as someone holy.
Makes sense. No one in their sound mind sees Fyodor as an Ambassador of Heaven. They see him as a Devil.
And that doesn't seem to bother Dostoevsky. Despite all of his frantic desires to change humanity, to create a ripple effect, to derail the course of historyโฆ He doesn't seem to give a single damn about what people think about him.
Who fulfills Fyodor's need to be valued for his intelect, his skills? Who helps him to stay on track, when no one notices his effort to make the world a โbetter placeโ?
Well, Fyodor has someone who reciprocates these desires. Someone, who sees him as a good person, striving to make a change. That entity is a God whose presence Fyodor senses in his head.
The God, as Dostoevsky envisions him as, is the only one who's able to see the goodness in his being.
Through the God's eyes Fyodor observes himself to find a meaning in his reality.
This why Fyodor so desperately insists that he's the only one who can understand and fulfil the God's will.
Because, without God, his only source of approval and validation is gone.

Bill Cipher, โthe Book of Billโ:
"... I don't need anyone, I NEVER HAVE, and I DON'T MISS ANY OF THEM! I'M FINE!".

Fyodor Dostoevsky, โCharacter card letterโ:
โI'm always alone. And this is fine by me. Has been, and always will beโ.

Yes, they're both โfineโ. Only Bill screams into the void, and Fyodor becomes one.
So what do we have here? Two infinity-old almost-immortal demons, who destroy themselves just to prove they can be alone forever.
Spoiler alert: they can't. And they despise the vulnerability that's still left inside of them.
Well, at least Bill's in therapy. But he is also at the point of breaking. Fyodor is still holding on, I guess? But barely.

Fyodor sees himself as hollow. The only thing that should fullfill him is faith, God, future visions. And yet, his mind, his flesh desires more than this.
Still, Fyodor doesn't see himself as an individual, but rather an instrument for Heaven's will.
Dostoevsky barely has any personal preferences and hides them well. The only consistent drive he is open about is a desire to be around beauty: classical music, delectable food, gorgeous people.
As if being around perfect and good-looking stuff can clench Fyodor's self-disgust.
Every time Dostoevsky is lavished with nice things, he feels like a rat, crawling into a royal palace. He doesn't deserve any of that. Not after everything that happened.
And yet, his little heart can't help but tremble every time someone gifts him an earthly pleasure: good wine, sweet tea, a peaceful atmosphere; people tending to him, surrounding him with all the comfort he needs. Fyodor can get addicted to it easily. But it never lasts.
There is a part deep inside of him that never relaxes, never gives into safety. Maybe, it's the part that ultimately broken or the one that belongs to God. It's restless and unstoppable.
Every time it wakes up, Fyodor's compulsion to save destroy the world takes over. Something triggers Dostoevsky, reminds him of his ability and he is back on his feet, searching for a way to fix everything.
Fyodor can never enjoy a good life for long enough. Every time he does, his drive drags him back into sewers,
where memories of peace
can only haunt him.
My bsd theory
I think that the Ame-no-Gozen kills people and absorbes their ability/life force to make himself stronger but if and/or when they kill it they can get the people who died back, and possibly Fyodor lost control of it or heโs simply looking and/or examining Atsushi, I think Dazai with his ability might be a key part in defeating the Ame-No-Gozen but I also think if it absorbs abilityโs it would be really bad for Chuuya to be near it, I hope/think Nikolai will also come back in the new chapters.
Hold on, I had a change in acc and I have more ideas now that I've watched/read it all so you get me now!
I want so badly for Tachihara to also go to high school so he does
The hunting dogs are the town's health and safety department, tachihara's working for the pm because they suspect the place of breaking so many rules but have no solid proof
No one dies in this au obv so all the hunting dogs deaths are them realizing that it's really ironic and hypocritical for them to be treated like shit when it's their job to prevent that and quitting
Sooooooo tempted to make the decay if angels a 3rd similar business
Theyโre loosing customers to the Ada business so they start framing them breaking health and safety regulations
Fukuzawa and Fukuchi were childhood friends who made those plans that everyone makes in, like, 3rd grade to open a business together when their adults but fukuzawa opened his own and fukuchi's still pissy about it
Thats why fukuchi helps fyodor in framing the Ada
oh right I forgot about the guild for a minute there
They're rich American tourists who try to start their own little shop and it immediately gets shut down.
Every now and then they try to reopen it and it fails miserably
I could totally au-ify more backstories but it's 2:30 am and I'm tired as shit sooo maybe later
I've been building this little bsd highschool/college au in my head for a while and I really wanna talk about itt
So like, they all just have the same after school job.
Atsushi, the Tanizaki siblings, Kyouka, and Kenji are all in highschool.
the rest of them are in college (other than Fukuzawa ofc).
Atsushi and Kyouka have the same adoptive parents.
The 'Port Mafia' is just a rival business that offers similar services and treats their employees much worse than the Ada.
I wanted to keep some of Atsushi's trauma so instead of the orphanage staff, his adoptive parents abuse him. Kyouka knows about it a little but not much, Atsu always tells her that he's fine and it's not a big deal. She doesn't really believe him, but she can't really do anything about it.
Dazai used to work for the Pm (rival business) but then his best friend Odasaku got fired and moved away and told him to quit and get a job that treats him better.
(I'm only just starting season 3 btw so idrk anyone else's backstory yet, I might update this as I watch more tho!)
Yosano is studying to be a doctor.
Kunikida is studying to be a math teacher, he's a student teacher at the high school everyone attends.
Ranpo is "studying" to be a detective but he's that one kid who figures out all the material the class teaches 5 minutes into the first lesson. Doesn't go to class often but gets straight A's anyway.
Akutagawa goes to highschool bc I say so. so does Higuchi and Gin.
tbh I haven't really thought about the pm much in this so that's all I have for them.
Thats it for now! might add more later!

My brain every five seconds since I read 114
Guess what Im gonna be doing!!! Yup be on the look out for a bungou stray dogs x male reader fan fic!
Would you guys like a bungou stray dogs x male reader full fanfic? It would be a side project I'd work on if my motivation for my huge twisted wonderland fanfic ever went away for a bit
Kenji Miyazawa theory
Ok, bare with me on this being my first major contribution to this fandom but....
I believe Kenjiโs ability is like Chuuya's, but his agency is unaware.ย
When you look at the details behind the Arahabaki experiment, Chuuya has upon the tainted sorrow. Still, corruption, known to be the true form of his ability, stems from Arahabaki itself, which once again is the result of experiments surrounding singularity ability. Also in the first chapter of Stormbringer, on page 22 it mentions when Piano Man is giving the photograph, he mentions that the photo was taken in a western village but what received from a different village, location unknown. With that being said, if you go into book 23, or chapter 100, you can see in the flashback part that talks about how the agency, specifically the President, found Kenji, in a rural village said it be somewhere from the northeast part of the country. Seemingly, both of them were originated from a rural area and brought to the Yokohama region. Both of these two men are quite similar in their natural strength, which ultimately led to Chuuya's experimentation, but the Surabachi incident was before Kenji was not even alive when it happened, he was born a year later. When found and taken in by Fukuzawa, it can be seen that he has two levels to his ability, with the first level being when is stabilized by a tangible force. That force is that he must be extremely hungry. With Chuuya, his gloves are like a personal anecdote for him feeling control and keeping his hands in his pockets while fighting. Proving that Chuuya has learned over time how to gain a semblance of internal stability. The thing is, that the mafia knew about the concept of ability singularity experiments, through the events of Stormbringer. Still, there is not much clarification that the Agency knows as well besides Dazai and possibly Fukuzawa. If by chance Fukuzawa does know, that may be why he went to find Kenji when the true form of ability first made an appearance. That may also be why he took him in, because if word did come out that there was another case like Chuuya, the Mafia definitely could have also found a way to get his hands on him. This also plays into the theory that Kenji was a trauma take, specifically that Fukuzawa can control the level of his subordinates. Since this was obviously an ability that he was slowly losing his own internal control over something it is entirely possible the village was forcing him to hold back. Separate from the case of Chuuya who basically was forced the hand to quickly learn to stay alive. The other key thing is that it had only been 2 months since Kenji had joined the ADA when the beginning of the storyline began. Yet, the minute something, almost like trigger words, is mentioned by a foe, then all restraints are useless, and the true form takes control, similar to how Chuuya has a specific phrase when allowing the usage of corruption. It seemed that against Tecchou, he was able to retake control as well as having a slight remembrance of what was happening. This is most definitely due to the work of Fukuzawa, as the Atsushi also has gained immense control over his ability in just a few months as well. One other thing is that it also seems that for both Kenji and Chuuya, it takes a high amount of negative emotions relating to people to truly force their hand in unleashing the true nature of their powers. With this being said, I think the mystery behind this village that Kenji comes from also holds secrets of their own, which leads to not just Kenji falling victim to a similar situation, but also the reason why the ADA was forced to play their hand instead of the government investigating the original events.ย
What if the BSD Great War...
So while doing some digging around while working on one of my many analysis projectsโฆmy brain began to create a weird rabbit hole theory that seems so crazy but it could be like 10% possible.ย
As we all know as members of this fandom, there was โThe Great Warโ that occurred 15 years before the start of the running manga. Yet, we are given such little details about such a detrimental event for multiple big-name characters within the series. It makes me question why this might be the case. While I can't pick apart Asagiri to the point where I can figure out his own personal crazy thinking, I can theorize the plausibility that this war was based on a real-life historical event, given the fact that a good 90% of our cast was real people as well, with their BSD relationships reflecting large similarities as the real-life relationships between the authors.ย
Now that is said, here is what i came up withโฆWHAT IF this war we speak off is a odd play off World War II.ย
Donโt throw me to the wolves here, I have no clue if anyone else has thought this eitherโฆ But hear out at least my breakdown:ย
Evidence piece number one: Basically as mentioned above, Asagiri uses historical authors and plays the switcheroo game, religiously.
What started as me just trying to figure out what chapter Yosanoโs backstory began in, I came across this line in an article breaking down her experience with the war that reminded me that in true international history, WWI was considered The Great War. I stated our Great War is the second one though, but here's why I say it is indeed the second one. We know Asagiri brings in characters that influenced or knew each other in real life, but he does not keep all the facts true with a lot of rearranging of the order of ages and who mentored who, For Example, look at Dazai and Akutagawa; where in the series Aku looks up to Dazai, but in real life it was Aku that inspired Dazai. Yet on the other hand, we also know that if you were to look at the average period most of the authors came from, taking out our lovely Russian friends and a few others, the majority come from the years that are considered pre-WWII to post-WWII. So would it not make sense that he would use people who did experience wartime in real life to have experienced a similar war in this worldly universe as well, which was WWII. This brings us to the next part that looks at the question: so he switched around some things, but why would he need to do that?ย
Evidence piece number two: If you look at details from light novels and certain parts of our main storyโฆthe alliances between certain countries look oddly familiar.ย
I will not lie that I have not read these light novels in a hot minute and I've consumed a lot of other media, so my memories are a bit hazy. But from skimming plot summaries for the books โStormbringerโ and โ55 Minutesโ(credit to the ppl on this website that give these details) I began to notice something. There are three major groups of authors, once again taking out the Russians, we have the French (who worked in tandem with the English), the Japanese, and the unnamed Germans (besides our man Johann who is mentioned in 55 minutes, I believe). Now pair the countries with how the events played out with the relaying of information about the singularity research, the research that is considered to be one of the major reasons the Great War had even begun, the pairing between countries reflected eerily familiar to the allied and axis powers during the real WWII.ย The timeline that I have worked it out to be is Germany theorized it first then stolen by France, who succeeded, then stolen again by Germany, and then handed over to Japan, who then also succeeded.ย
Evidence number three: Comparing the facts to WWII and the descriptions we receive from the characters in Bungo about the Great War, there are a lot of indirect overlaps.
Since Asagiri made it that out of any event of the series prior to the start of the running manga, he chose the Great War to have the least amount of number facts to its name. Yet, by looking at how the great war within the series is described by the characters who experienced it and then looking at the basic facts about WWII as well, the "events" of Bungo's war are quite familiar. I will say that history was never a class I paid close attention to at any point in my life, but Wikipedia is helping the case here. Whether it is the fact they focus on how it was filled with science and technology advances that led to the deadliest parts of the war. Or the fact that islands played a huge role in many events from the war. There are just enough overlaps for me to consider this as evidence.
And more recently discovered...evidence number four: The book that inspired Asagiri to even create bungo stray dogs was, you can guess, related to WWII.
While I was looking into the career paths that Asagiri had before he became an author, it was mentioned that a book by the late author Shusaku Endo named Ryugaku, which is set post WWII. There are also similarities between the countries used during the great war in Europe and the countries mentioned in this book. This book, combined with Dazai's own novel that also inspired him, gives great sway to the time frame Bungo is actually set in.
Overall all of this could be my delusions doing its delusion things, but I do believe that I can fancy my brain for one minute. Thanks if you decided to read all the way through!
What if...
What if, with no connection to the storyline...
Asagiri decided to bring in ethics authors (like Kant and Bentham) to the bungo world just to see how they would react to the most unethical storyline ever to be put in place
it is it coincidence that when a well loved and important part to the plot characterโฆthat oh so happens to be voiced by the icon Kenjiro Tsuda himselfโฆseemingly always are the ones to have such unnecessary and sad deathsโฆno just me
what if Nikolai has actually known Fyodor's ability this whole time...
just an idea...
but sit on it...
I feel like there needs to be a Wiki page dedicated to the biggest unanswered mysteries of Bungo...
Like I feel that even with all of the millions of minds working on this fandom, there's got to be a collection of like "The 7 Great Mysteries of Bungo" or some shit like that...
