AI-less Whumptober Day 7: CPR/Restrained

Fandom: Star Wars The Bad Batch

Warning: Character Death

Summary: Hunter and Crosshair are captured by separatist. Now Hunter can't seem to reach his brother

Nothing could ever prepare Hunter for the horrors of war. He had seen it all first hand. Sure he had been training for this since he could hold a blaster but the real thing was so, bloody. It was like hell. Maybe hell would be better.

Everything that had happened had only made Hunter feel worse but slowly became less and less shocked and more and more unwavering. Until he woke up in a cold, dark cell. He wasn't alone.

Crosshair was with him. Slowly the memory of what had happened came back to him. But you have been captured by the Separatist while scouting for a mission. It had been damp and nearly day break when they were taken.

The clone remembered trying to reach out for his brother before the world went dark. Frozen hands had kept him from being able to reach Crosshair. He knew he had been hurt but he couldn't remember by what.

Crosshair had been shot in the side. He tried to move to help him.

Metal cuffs wrapped around his hands that kept him changed to the wall kept him from going any further. He was just out of arms reach.

Crosshair started to wake up. He winced as he sat up. "Hunter?" He asked.

"Yeah Cross, I'm here." Hunter kept fighting the chains. The clone could hear footsteps nearing the hall they were in. He pulled on his chains, trying to get to his brother. He could feel the skin under them start to get irritated.

"Hello clones" a male voice antagonized.

"Fuck off" Crosshair muttered.

Hunter remembered the man's face. The mission came back to him. They had gone to retrieve a Jedi from a Separatist planet before Dooku could get to them. The man in front of the two was the leader of the gang that had the general. He remembered being told that Tech and Wrecker had retrieved the Jedi and that Echo was ready with the Marauder.

Two men walked into the small cell and started to unchain Crosshair. He tried to fight, he did, but he couldn't.

Hunter jolted forwards, "where are you taking him?" He asked, voice demanding.

"That's on a need to know basis."

No matter how hard Hunter tried, he couldn't get to Crosshair. Soon he was alone again.

All he could do was wait and worry. Why had they taken Crosshair? Was he going to be okay? Was he alive?

What about the rest of the batch? Had they escaped alright? Hunter didn't hear their voices so he wanted to assume they were fine. Still anxiety creeped into his heart. He couldn't help but fear the worst.

There wasn't much to do when his brothers weren't around. He kept fighting the chains, trying to get them off. The base of his hands bleed as he pulled. He put his legs under him and pushed his feet against the wall.

It felt like his hands were slipping though for just a moment. Then he realized it was just his skin ripping as he pulled. But the clone didn't care.

Hunter thought back to his training. He'd learned that sometimes even that couldn't help. He thought about his anatomy. The man had always been fascinated with bones. Tech and him went through a phase together, learning everything they could about them.

He thought about the anatomy of his hand. If he dislocated his metacarpophalangeal and carpometacarpal joints, he might be able to slip his hand out of the chains.

It had been hours since Crosshair had been taken away. When Hunter heard footsteps in the hall again, he was relieved in a way.

A limp Crosshair was thrown into the cell without a word or even a look. Hunter moved his legs out from underneath him to break his brother's fall. It hurt but it didn't matter to him.

"Cross?" Hunter spoke softly.

Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

As soon as the man was gone Hunter started trying to break his thumbs. It was easier than he thought to get the placement of the break correct. The hardest part was trying to do it without being able to see.

As Hunter tried to get his hand in the right position, he listened to Crosshair's breathing. It was slow and labored. Then it was gone.

Hunter forgot about his plan to break his thumbs for a moment. He pulled forward, the chains clicking together. "Crosshair!" He yelled. He put his feet behind him once more and slammed them on the wall. He pulled and pulled before remembering how to get out.

Instead of taking his time to plan out the dislocation, Hunter slammed his hand into the wall. He tried again and again until he had broken the joints.

It wasn't supposed to be painful.

The clone rushed to Crosshair's side. He pushed him onto his back and placed his hands on his sternum. He pressed into his chest, trying to save him. The repeated pressure on his hands only made them hurt more. '1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15' Crack. Hunter felt one of his brother's ribs break under the pressure. It sent a chill up his spine.

He tried.

As time passed, Hunter ignored the footsteps that had been growing louder in the hall. He tried to stay calm. Tears fell from his eyes as he tried to listen for any sign that Crosshair was alive.

Two guards walked into his cell and grabbed him. He kicked at them, trying to get away. As he watched the cell grow further he tired to figure out how to tell the others about Crosshair.

It wasn't long before he had to. As he heard three sets of footsteps his heart sank. What did he say? He fought against his chains for a moment before both hands slipped out of them. He stood as they entered the hall.

"Hunter" Echo said as he started to work on the door.

After a moment Wrecker asked the dreaded question, "where's Cross?"

Hunter sighed. "He's gone."

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?

Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.

You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.

Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..

Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.

How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.

1. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.

2. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment

3. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.

4. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

So many TV shows/movies depict the Epi Pen as a total solution for anaphylaxis...it's not. The Epi Pen gives you 30 minutes to get to a hospital where they can save your life. TV makes it look like you just have to use the Epi Pen and then the crisis is over. Do people without allergies or a loved one with allergies know that an Epi Pen only buys you time? The more I see this on TV the more I worry...

I just had the craziest cardiophile déjà vu ever!!

okay so I came back to my hometown from a little break I took, and as soon as I got home I saw my little cousin playing with an old toy I used to play with when I was a child. He was running all around the house with a playmobil ambulance in his hands, with its little siren flickering fast. I just saw myself at his age playing with it, but in a cardiophile way instead... I remember it used to have a stethoscope for the doctors in a yellow emergency kit, also some rubber cables and masks for oxygen that you could switch on and off as you pleased. inside the ambulance there was a stretcher, and it actually had belts to tie your patient down!! I absolutely loved that part. my heart skipped a bit everytime omg. in fact, I remember having these kind of screens beside the stretcher showing heart rate, oxigen levels and blood pressure among others. You can't imagine how fun it was for my younger self to play with it, I didn't even know I was into cardiophillia then but I could play doctor with my toys for hours nonstop. OH WAIT THERE WAS AN ULTRASOUND TOO, with a blur image of a baby. it was from another set of toys, I don't remember much but I think it was from a vet? I'm not sure, I just remember using it in my cardiophile situations AHAHAH. No but seriously, let me tell you I was absolutely embarrassed every time anyone wanted to play doctors with me at that time, or even just watch me play! it just seemed so personal and private in some weird way to me at that moment. I would suddenly unplug every cable and steth attached to the toy's body just in case my parents came at the door. The thought gives me butterflies, I would immobilize my selected patient on the bed, tie them down as tight as I could and then stick all these little things in their plastic bodies, knowing they were gonna be monitored, and sometimes even practice some cpr and rescue breathing on the patient while they were being stethed. I imagined all kind of previous scenarios that wondered the question of "how did they get here?" or "what exactly made them end up like this?", and I just let my imagination take over. I'm realizing I was REALLY into this fetish and I just didn't know.

Anyway, just one more childhood cardiophillia memory... this should be a series ahahahaha

I'm currently chatting with a bunch of you, guys ;)

It makes me feel wanted, desired and really powerful, no wonder why!

I even let myself think of a new fantasy... Meeting with all of you in the same place without telling you there would be more individuals craving my body and my heart than just you. How would you feel?

Embarrassed?

Threatened?

Turned on?

Glad?

...

You take a look around to watch your rivals with lustful eyes looking at my chest, ready to eat me out bit by bit. Some of them wear a stethoscope, and take turns to undress me and put the bell in my chest, my heart speeding up each time one of you traces my skin. How many stethoscopes would I feel on my boobs? 5? 10?

The mere thought of being railed by all of you at the same time is heavenly. All of you desiring me, as I let myself get idolized, praised and humiliated.

I end up passing out on the exam table, and those great arms with big hands start giving compressions to my lifeless body, as your fantasy partners watch and get off to the scene.

One breath in... One out.

Another...

Feeling my chest, looking for life.

Some of you humping me while pushing my chest at a restless pace, leaving bruises all over my sternum.

I finally wake up to passionate kisses, fingering and waves of stethoscopes taking turns to listen to my own mess...

First Aid Basics

I just got certified in CPR and First Aid last month with the American Heart Association. I wanted to share this information with you, because a lot of what we see on TV is not at all accurate as to what you’re supposed to do to actually help someone. Here are some of the topics that were covered:

First Aid Basics

Here are the steps you should follow when addressing a situation where a person may be injured/unconscious: 

Check to make sure the scene is safe- you are no help to anybody if you also get hurt

If the person is responsive: “Are you okay?”

If they are unresponsive, hit their shoulders hard and yell: “Are you okay?” to see if you can rouse them

Phone 911 and put the phone on speaker (you can delegate this task to somebody else if you’re not alone)

Have somebody get a First Aid kit (don’t leave the person if you’re by yourself unless the 911 operator tells you to)

Is the person conscious? Unconscious?

Check them for any obvious signs of injury

Check them for medical jewelry

Remember

Time is of the essence! Be decisive and confident. 

Don’t be afraid to call for help and assign people tasks

You can only perform CPR on a flat service. If a person needs CPR and is on a bed or in a chair, move them to the floor immediately. Don’t worry about hurting their head or anything, if they don’t get CPR immediately, their life expectancy is significantly less. (See my CPR post for full details)

Do not move the person unless the area they’re in is unsafe. If you have to move the person, drag them by their clothes and pull them to safety.

Adult Choking

There are both mild and severe cases of adult choking. In a mild case, the person choking will be able to make a sound or cough loudly. Typically these cases resolve themselves. 

Ask: “Are you choking? Can I help you?”

If the person cannot make a sound or cough in response, they are suffering from severe choking.

Walk around back of the person and put your arms around them

Make a fist with your dominant hand

Place your fist slightly above the belly button and below the chest bone.

Grasp the fist with your other hand

Give quick upward thrusts

If the person is overweight or pregnant, put your arms around the person’s armpits.

If you are unsuccessful in removing the blockage, the person will quickly become unresponsive. You will need to perform adult CPR and call 911.

After chest compressions (see above link) check person’s mouth to see if the thing they choked on is visible. If it is visible, remove it. Never going digging around in someone’s mouth. 

Amputation

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Get a First Aid kit

Both these steps can be delegated to someone else if they’re around

Put gauze on the wound and apply pressure until the bleeding stops

Do not remove the gauze if it’s bled through- this will remove any blood clots that have formed. 

If the gauze is bled through, add more gauze on top and keep applying pressure until the bleeding stops

Clean the amputated part with water

Warp the amputated part with dressing 

Put the amputated part in a small plastic bag

Get a larger plastic bag and fill it with equal parts ice and water

Put the small plastic bag inside the large plastic bag

Label the bag with person’s name and time of the injury

Asthma (How to Operate an Inhaler)

People diagnosed with asthma will typically be aware of it and may have an inhaler on them. If someone has an asthma attack:

Ask them: “Are you okay? Do you need your inhaler?” 

The person will probably be able to give some sort of indication in response

If they need their inhaler: 

Locate the inhaler

Put the medicine (metallic capsule pictured below) in the inhaler if it is not already in there, it will click into place

Shake the inhaler to activate the medicine

Attach the mouth piece if it’s unattached (not all inhalers have one, it is not pictured below)

Remove the cap (cap is darker blue piece pictured below)

Have the person put their head back

Put the inhaler in the person’s mouth

Push down on the canister and have them breathe out slowly

They should begin to feel relief immediately, but you should still have them sit down and take it easy for a while

Call 911 if they are still having difficulty breathing after the inhaler has been administered

Bee Sting

Usually bee stings present only mild irritation and pain. If the person stung has a severe allergic reaction, you will need to call 911.

Get a first aid kit

Scrape away the bee stinger and venom sack using a credit card or something similar in nature

Wash the affected area with lots of soap and running water

Wrap a bag of ice in a towel and place it over the affected area for 20 minutes or until the pain is gone

Watch the person for up to 30 minutes for signs of an allergic reaction

Call 911 if they present any classic allergy symptoms

Bleeding from Nose

Have the person lean their head forward

Get a First Aid kit

Or have someone else get one

Have the bleeding person apply pressure to the bridge of their nose using gauze from the First Aid kit

Do not remove the gauze if it’s bled through- this will remove any blood clots that have formed. 

If the gauze is bled through, add more gauze on top until the bleeding stops

Call 911 if the bleeding lasts longer than 15 minutes

Heat Cramps/Dehydration

Can lead to heat exhaustion! These typically happen when someone is dehydrated and tries to do lots of physical activity.

Have the person sit down and cool off

Have them drink something with sugar and electrolytes

Water will work in a pinch but sugary drinks and gatorade are preferred

Heat Exhaustion

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Have the person lie down

Cool the person by pouring water on them or wetting them with wet cloths until they begin to act normally

Have them drink something with sugar and electrolytes

Water will work in a pinch but sugary drinks and gatorade are preferred

Wait with them until help arrives

Opioid Overdose

My instructor said that these will often happen in an unsafe or an isolated environment. Always check to make sure that the scene is safe- look out for needles. 

Naloxone is used to revive people who have overdosed on opioids. If you find someone who has overdosed on opioids you happen to have naloxone on you and know how to administer it, the American Heart Association recommends that you use it instead of waiting for help to arrive.

Responsive:

Yell for help

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Wait with the person until help arrives

Unresponsive

Yell for help

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Perform five cycles of adult CPR

Wait for help

Seizure

Seizures are abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Typical seizure symptoms: spasms, muscle rigidity, and unconsciousness. Seizures typically last between 60-90 seconds before the person gains consciousness. 

Do NOT touch the person who is having a seizure

Do NOT put anything in their mouth

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

If there are people around, ask them to get a First Aid kit while you wait with the person having the seizure

Don’t leave the person having a seizure if you are alone

Move objects away from the person having the seizure so that they don’t knock into them

If possible, place a small towel/pad underneath the person’s head

If the person starts vomiting, turn them over on their side so that they don’t choke

If possible use gloves and an eye mask from a First Aid kit to avoid exposure to bodily fluids

After they come to, they may be bleeding from the mouth. 

Use gauze from a First Aid kit to stop the bleeding

Have them apply pressure with the gauze until the bleeding stops

Stay with the person until help arrives

Splints

Splints should be significantly longer than the injured area. They’re used to constrict movement, so the person is injured should not be able to move freely once the splint is applied. Splints are use to treat broken/dislocated bones. It’s very difficult to tell if a bone is actually broken or just dislocated, so don’t worry about it and just splint the thing.

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Get a First Aid kit

Both these steps can be delegated to someone else if they’re around

Put on gloves/eye glasses from the First Aid kit to avoid contamination from bodily fluids

Cover exposed wound area with gauze

Do not remove the gauze if it’s bled through- this will remove any blood clots that have formed. 

If the gauze is bled through, add more gauze on top until the bleeding stops.

Place a strip of rigid material underneath the injured area

Use gauze/dressing from the First Aid kit to secure the splint by wrapping material above and below the injured area

Never tie material directly over the injury

Have the person stay as still as possible until help arrives

Stroke

Strokes are caused from blockage/bleeding from things like blood clots. Typical signs of a stroke: face drooping (or numbness), arm weakness (or numbness), and speech difficulty. There is nothing much you can do except wait with the person and try to make them comfortable until help arrives.

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Note the time that the stroke symptoms began (this will help hospital technicians)

Stay with the person until help arrives

Tourniquets

Some First Aid kits will come with a pre-made tourniquet. If your kit does not have a tourniquet you can make one fairly easily. Tourniquets should only be used for injuries where the person is squirting blood. No squirting blood? Use a splint.

Call 911 and put the phone on speaker

Get a First Aid kit

Both these steps can be delegated to someone else if they’re around

Put on gloves/eye glasses from the First Aid kit to avoid contamination from bodily fluids

Fold cloth or a bandage so that it’s long and an inch wide

Wrap the the bandage/cloth two inches above the wound

Never apply a tourniquet bandage/cloth on a joint (like elbows or knees). 

Find a small stick

Place the small stick atop the cloth/bandage and tie it there

You can now turn the small stick to tighten the cloth/bandage

Have the injured person lay down and try to move as little as possible

Do not remove the tourniquet- even if the bleeding stops.

Wait until help arrives.

CPR, but make it Kpop

I know that this is a Kpop blog, but I’m a huge advocate for CPR/first aid training. I’ve personally used CPR and first aid several times and I think it’s a great skill to have.

CPR combines chest compressions and optional respirations to assist someone who’s become unresponsive. Common guidance recommends 100-120 compressions per minute, and you can use a song with 100-120 BPM to help you keep the rhythm. So, since this is a Kpop blog, I’ve compiled a list of Kpop songs that are within the recommended BPM for CPR chest compressions!

Here are 50 Kpop songs you can perform CPR to:

1. “Replay” - SHINee (100 BPM)

2. “Hard Carry” - GOT7 (100 BPM)
