Decluttering - Tumblr Posts

Organizing/decluttering tip for artists/writers...

... who have habit to scribble ideas on spare paper (checks, post-it notes, torn paper, etc.) and then keep it, because those are good ideas, you can't throw them away and now it turns into a trashy pile of paper and you can't find what you need in it and get a lot of clutter

Get a folder, physical folder where you put things, like this one. It has sections, so you can also place all things by your projects/chapters etc. You don't get rid of paper, but at least now it has it's own place instead of pile. Also it's much faster to find things

2. Make a collage. I had plenty of sketches done on spare paper (one side is printed and no longer needed and on another is drawing), so I cut out sketches I actually needed and glued them in my sketchbook. It's not pretty, but good for idea preservation

3. If you have corkboard or whiteboard, sticking there your scribbles might work. More than that, it's more likely that you will be reminded of your ideas and bring them to life sooner. However might get in the way of your sense of privacy, so adjust as you wish

MAKING YOUR PHONE TO BE INTENTIONAL

MAKING YOUR PHONE TO BE INTENTIONAL
MAKING YOUR PHONE TO BE INTENTIONAL
MAKING YOUR PHONE TO BE INTENTIONAL

MAKE A VISION BOARD WALLPAPER. Create one that aligns with your goals and dream self, so that every time you pick your phone up, you’re reminded of your goals and future vision. Also, great for manifesting!

KNOW YOUR APP’S PURPOSE. For me, tumblr is a way I share advice and learn, YouTube I also learn from others, pinterest I get inspired, netflix is a way for me to unwind etc. If for any app, you cannot name a proper purpose/intent to use it daily or to help with your goals, delete it.

DECIDE WHICH TYPES OF APPS YOU WANT. If you have a new phone, or you want to completely reset your phone, write or type, the apps, that you want and those you don’t.

E.g I want to learn a language, practice mindfulness on the go, get some mental gratification that isn’t addicting, organise my life better and have a way to track my progress. I don’t want apps that support doom-scrolling, make me compare myself and are addictive.

BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU SIGN UP TO. Newsletters, social media, subscribing to YouTubers and so on, just think about your goals and vision and if they align with them, every time you think about signing up/subscribing.

HAVE NO PHONE TIME/ZONES. For me, my phone is not allowed to be used in bed. If I must use my phone, I have to get out of bed first. My phone is also not allowed during study time, so I put it in a separate room which makes it inconvenient.

REGULARLY DO A DIGITAL DECLUTTER. Delete any old contacts that you don’t talk to, unsubscribe from newsletters and YouTube channels, organise your socials etc. Removes space and helps us to see our phones with more clarity.

SET PURPOSEFUL WIDGETS. These can be anything, motivational quotes, your daily to-do list, reminders of your habits and so on. However, make sure you’re looking at them and they're not just taking up space.

Had a discussion about decluttering with a smart ass guy.

He: Everything you didn’t have your hands on in a year can go.

I: Okay, I'll throw away:

First aid kit

Fire extinguisher

Birth certificate

School certifications

Vaccination certificate

3/4 of the stuff in my tool kit

I think I made..... I didnt actually count it yet but possibly $15 over the last 3 days? Technically joining the sale was to get rid of things not to make muns. But it's still nice to have pocket funds.

Yard sales are a dwindling event these days. I hope they don't go extinct. There is a certain coexisting thrill of the 'hunt' and quiet intimacy of meeting people and acquiring their long-cherished belongings.

I've attended and hosted/been apart of many 'a sale and simply enjoy the process/experience. (Even though these days the set up and tear down broke me more)

Upside? Got rid of a decent amount of little clutter AND acquired leftovers from my friend that I love. A cardigan she'd gotten and I think simply never wore. A box that was previously our mutual friend's before that, haha.

A woven blanket which is nice. And a couple of autumn jackets. Things I will use and enjoy in the place of things that cluttered my space and mind, causing distress. I think it went well. Oh and a meat mallet. Which has been on my 'need to search thrift for one' list for like 3 months. So that worked out!

I'm content. Feeling rough. But content. ♡
