Goddesses - Tumblr Posts

1 year ago

I've read a lot of stories with humanoid gods and eldritch demons but none of the opposite.

I want to read about benevolent and kind gods whose appearance is so terrifying and indescribable that it drives people into fearful insanity, gods who don't even seem to conform to human standards of divinity; gods who strike fear into friend, foe and worshipper alike.

I want to read about demons who don't look like demons but are more human instead, demons who may not have an eldritch form but can still strike fear into the hearts of people, demons who literally embody the quote, "The Devil comes as everything you've ever wished for."

As a city-bound person who uses sea magick to ground and relax myself when I'm stressed, thank you. It's validating to see this kind of post.

Stuck in the City: Landlocked Sea Witches

Living on the coast or near the ocean is not an option for many people. Whether it be budgetary reasons, minors living with family, spoonie witches who need to live with caregivers, or being stuck in a landlocked state or country. Though because you have distance between you and the ocean, doesn’t mean you cannot connect to it still. Though your craft will likely not be as powerful at times as one who is practicing straight on the beach, never think that you cannot use the energies of the great oceans in your craft just because you are stuck somewhere else. With this masterpost I hope to help my fellow landlocked witches know how to connect and use sea magick.

Stuck In The City: Landlocked Sea Witches

Stop the Gatekeeping

First I would like to address a problem I have seen several times in this community (especially here on witchblr) about sea witchcraft. I have seen far too many people telling others they cannot use anything ocean related in their craft unless they are near or on the beach, and that if you wish to practice sea magick you “should just move to the coast”. This is an issue I already brought up in my little intro: for many that is just not possible.

Firstly, in several places living even near the coast costs extreme amounts of money, much more than certain people can afford. Secondly, it may not be medically feasible. If the spoonie witch’s caregivers or care circle cannot move or if moving is something that could upset their illness further, they should certainly not move just to please you “real sea witches”. Some countries are also simply landlocked, they’d have to move completely out of their homeland to reach the coast and for some that is not even an option. So before you go onto this post saying it is inaccurate because sea witches only live by the sea, please do not and think for a moment that not everyone has the same circumstances as you. We all have different lives, needs and situations going on and not everyone can live the same way. Let others practice their craft in a way that suits them.

Getting Started/Creating your Space

As in my previous Stuck In the City post, we are going to start with a space or altar set up that will allow you to help feel connected to the ocean. Depending on the space you have available there can be some fun ways for you to connect to it. First find a corner or a table or even a spare part of a room that you can use for your set up, the more room the better in my personal opinion but I understand that space can be very limited.

Clean and cleanse the space you wish to use, make sure this is done well enough for the space to be comfortable to work in. Next it is time to create space for yourself, create an area that you can either sit or even lay down in, whatever you find to be the most comfortable when meditating or rejuvenating yourself after a long day.

Once it has been clean and cleared find a nice flat space and surface to place your altar, preferable somewhere that is fire safe in case of wanting to use incense or candles. I usually in cases of meditation or long term practice try to make it somewhere comfortable with furniture or an area where I can sit or even recline during my practice. I personally enjoy some extra pillows or cushions in the corner though this is entirely up to you.

Some things to consider adding to your ocean altar: beach sand, shells of any kind (clam, oyster, cone, crushed, broken etc), crab shells, dried sand dollars, dried starfish, driftwood, ocean stones/pebbles, shell dust, sea glass, sea salt, dried kelp (powder), ropes, buckets/cups/bowls/containers, fish bones, fish oil, bottles, shark teeth, cork and sea water.

The Happenings of Olympus

The Happenings Of Olympus

This is a poetry collection about the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus. They are monstrous to one another, much in the way that humans are. There are allusions to rape, ableism, and references to literary works of the ancient Greeks and Romans.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My mother told me the droplets that fell from above were the tears of gods. She said that the gods cried like how humans cried. I always wondered what gods could have to cry about. They were gods! Everyone knows that they could do anything they wanted. They could wield the Earth as their weapon. They could be any being, anywhere, at any time. They were immortal. The gods knew no end, no death, no sorrow!
Little me didn’t understand that they were flawed from the very beginning.
The gods experienced everything forever. There was no rest, no slumber. How can one be motivated if their clock never stops ticking? If the sand in their hourglass will never run out? War, famine, death, and disease. The gods have passed through many lifetimes of nothing. Are the gods alive, if they aren’t capable of dying? The tears of gods are shed for the death that’ll always be out of grasp. Humans face divine retribution for the gods are jealous of what they themselves cannot have,
Death.
The gods will be clear when reaching out to you during divination. When you ask for signs during a tarot session, you should get clear signs. You might have a little trouble with interpretation, which is very normal, but the sign itself should be objectively clear. You might just need to look a little in order to catch it. Clear doesn't mean obvious! Clear just means, yes, this is associated with so-and-so deity.
Yep, Im Digging My Way Through Nikita Gill.
Yep, I’m digging my way through Nikita Gill.
I’m not much of a religious person, but I was born in an Indian family,and I was left free to form my own opinions on religion. For me its more about the colours, the bells, the passion...its more about culture than about faith.
‘Kali’is the complete antithesis of any other Goddess in the Hindu pantheon, she’s all blind rage and unbridled power, her first impression on  the viewer is fear.
In India, ‘Kali’ is a mother, a protector, a lesson to all men, that a woman’s rage can burn their world to the ground.
This is part one of my ap art concentration portfolio
The idea was if ancient goddesses in were modern women
1) The Amazon warrior (a fierce Greek goddess) is an executive for Amazon. This idea might have been inspired by Percy Jackson and because I found this idea way funnier than I probably should have
2) Artemis (the Greek goddess of the hunt) is an Olympic archer. This was actually the first one I did for this series.
3) Baba Yaga (the Russian witch whose house walks on chicken legs) is a chicken farmer. This is the second time I've drawn this because the first version didn't have a border.
4) Bast (the Egyptian goddess of cats and motherhood) is a mom with her baby in a kitten suit. This image has the most judgmental cat I've ever drawn.
5) Kali (the Hindu goddess of death) is a death metal guitarist. (Fun fact: the hairstyle of the head on her guitar is based on the skinny version of all might from my hero academia)
6) Lilith (Adam’s first wife from Jewish myths, who was rejected from paradise for not being subservient) is a tattoo artist. (According to my grandfather she looks like Cher)
The other six can be found here
All of these were done in colored pencil and are 9"x12"
I'm sorry if I got anything wrong
7) Mayahuel (the Aztec goddess of agave, alcohol, and who has 400 rabbit children) is a cafe owner. I originally was going to have this be a bar until I remembered that That probably wouldn't be appropriate in high school
8) Pele (the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes) is a volcanologist. I had so much fun with the lava
9) The Selkie (who in Irish myths puts on her sealskin coat to become a seal) is a fashion designer. She reminds me of Rarity from my little pony
10) The Valkyrie (who in Norse stories takes fallen souls from the battlefield to Valhalla) is an Army medic. Fun fact: the wounded soldier is based on John Laurens from the musical Hamilton because I have no self control.
11) Wuriupranili (an Aboriginal Australian goddess who carries the sun torch across the sky every day) is an astronaut. The dots on the border took so long
12) Yuki-onna (the snow woman from Japan) is an Olympic skater. The outfit was supposed to look like snow with the blue shadows snow has but I went slightly overboard.
Also even though this was done a while ago, I probably never would have finished without the help of @blairtrabbit so yeah
Heres A Quick Sketch I Managed To Find Time To Do, Plus A Fun Little Edit. I Want To Do A Series On My
Heres A Quick Sketch I Managed To Find Time To Do, Plus A Fun Little Edit. I Want To Do A Series On My
Here’s a quick sketch I managed to find time to do, plus a fun little edit. I want to do a series on my own gods and goddesses, on top of the other two worlds I haven’t even finished building yet as they face the already established gods of Egypt, Greece, etc. Of course, I’d like this world to break the fourth wall sometimes, they are gods after all. As the story progresses they will earn their own titles, e.g., god of war, goddess of light.
From left to right is Ishma the wax angel, Taabo the Highland cow, and Etza the feathered serpent.
Ishma has red wax-wings and changes color during intense emotion but his default skin color is a deep black. He can melt like a candle and control nature, he dual-wields a sword and dagger.
Etza can change between her human form and serpent form, she prefers her human form even though the serpent is her natural form. She has the most brute strength out of the three. Has the breath of the four elements.
Taabo is royalty of a city hidden by clouds. By having the ability to call upon the cosmos to grant him a power he gains favor from his parents. They entrusted him with the gauntlets of yore, which are made of the souls of his ancestors.
this is me again and my besties nane and anahit aka armenian goddesses of motherhood ( i have other arts of anahit and nane but these ones are for my project so i want to show them )
nane while being the goddess of motherhood is also goddess of war and wisdom. yes she is versatile ... and also she kinda look like athena
and anahit is basically The Golden Mother. she was one of the most revered deity in great armenia. and also the statue of her head is in the british museum in london. but it's too similar to aphrodite so i drew anahit differently
some historians say that nane and anahit ( and astghik but i would like to tell you about her later ) are one goddess but who knows ?
tbh i prefer to think that they are very different goddesses with very different characters
A comic I made for social studies, took me 7 hours so might as well put it here.
Translation:
“Long ago, the sky was a dull grey.”
“Iris, the goddess of rainbows, was the main deliverer.”
“Until one day...”
A Comic I Made For Social Studies, Took Me 7 Hours So Might As Well Put It Here.
Iris:”Oh dear! How dreadful!”
”I’ll just cover it up.”
“But I don’t have any grey!”
“Well, I can’t just leave it.”
“Guess I could paint it all blue...”
“All done!”
“Back to my deliveries!”
Zeus: “Why is my sky a silly shade of blue?!”
“Who did this!?”
Iris: “I did...”
Zeus: “Iris?! You’re demoted!”
“Hermis will take your place,”
