KOTLC Favorite ice creams flavors!
Sophie-Rocky Road, I feel like Sophie was a sucker for chocolate and Rocky Road gives me Mallowmelt vibes, with it having marshmellows.
Fitz-Mint Chip, I think he'd like the fresh minty flavor and would hunt for the choclate chips like pirates digging for treasure with Biana (and Alvar before shit went down)
Keefe- Cookie's n Cream, seems like a guy with a huge sweet tooth
Biana- Green Tea, I feel like she'd want a nice calm earthy flavor to soothe her after all the shit going on
Tam- Chocolate, I feel like he'd have a basic ice cream flavor since it doesn't really matter that much too him.
Linh - Salted Caramel, especially sea salt, This girl also has a massive sweet tooth and indulges on any sweet food since that was her and Tam had least access to in Exilllium.
Marella- Mango Sorbet/Ice cream I feel like she'd like Sorbet more honestly but for the sake of the title, Ice cream. Its fruity, tropical and sunny, all stuff Marella would seem into (I was tempted to put Vanilla Ice cream for her but decided thats too basic for her.)
Maruca- Butter Pecan, she seems like a girl who'd like nuts (Pun unintended) Especially Pecans. I also imagine her family served something like Pecan Pie at holidays and had a secret family recipe of theirs.
Mr. Forkle...-dirt
Umber- Toffee, likes sweet syrupy tastes like Toffee,. No need for spoons since she has shadowflux! She also likes to let it melt a little so she can drink it like a soup.
Trix- Pumpkin pie, Im getting lazy atp so yeah. (wrote this after the rest of them but wanted umber and trix to be next to eachother)
Fintan- Vanilla, if his fossilized ass is even aware of icecream, this dude is every bit basic and if he does know about icecream, he probably has nostalgia of collecting snow and shredding fruits on it from the 3rd century
Gisela- Coffee, she wouldn't have much of a sweet tooth in my mind honestly
Alvar- Pistachio, preferably with chocolate chips. Much like Fitz...Erm he judges people and shops on how good their Pistachio Ice cream is since he a connoisseur on this flavor. Will down a whole tub of this actually.
Ruy- Strawberry, he's not much into icecream so anything will do but he does a small preference for Strawberry since its nice and refreshing adn he likes fruits with a tang.
(This hurt my fingers)
KotLC Economy
I wasn't gonna post anything, and this probably won't be very noticed, but I saw a poll about the worst part of the KotLC books and now I'm thinking about this.
The way that money is handled in the books is not only super inaccurate and pretty much impossible, it's actually damaging to the story as well. Everyone just gets about 500 million lusters in their accounts at the beginning of their lives and somehow the currency is still more valuable than American/European money? Even though that's not how value works from an economical standpoint anywhere in the world? Just the fact that EVERYONE gets that much money instantly negates its value at all, because no one needs anymore money and therefore any money you possibly could've payed anyone is worthless.
Why do any elves even sell stuff? I get having hobbies, and I get giving it away, but at that point an elf wouldn't even bother charging lusters for it because they would have to ask for so much to match the value while at the same time not needing any more because they have infinite money themselves. Elves would just ask for some other belonging in exchange and life would go back to some primitive form of society where everyone had to pay service with service directly. That or everybody gets everything for free and in that case, material supplies that actually did have value would deplete rapidly and it would destroy the Earth because every resource would be drained for nothing (and that just doesn't happen because any intelligent species should know not to deplete resources and put a value on it. In a free system like the latter describes, elves would actually be doing much worse for the planet than even humans because at least humans know they must preserve some things for more profit).
It's also lazy writing because it's just a way for Shannon Messenger not to have to honestly think about how much a character is spending in the books and it means she can focus more on other prejudices like abilities, twins, or matches without factoring anything else into it. I'll get to that next but for now, it's also a glaring worldbuilding issue because while all elves are supposed to get enough money to last them a lifetime, the books state that elves don't actually know how long they live for. That means that they would have to have an infinite amount of money, to their own knowledge, to last them a lifetime.
Back to focusing on other prejudices, its all well that she came up with creative ways elves would segregate as it makes for a distinct cultural species but money and class is always important in a society because money is always a societal must in any type of advanced civilization. How it's important and how it separates people, as well as how the government controls it, is what makes the societies different. To not have this in here ruins the opportunity for government oppression in the form of labor and money that would amplify the effects of being a twin, a bad match, or talentless. Sure, you could just banish everyone that isn't perfect, I'm sure that has happened, but even then there would be a lot of elves who would be banished and at that point they would be their own society (something else that hasnt really been shown to exist within the elven world).
It also makes being a bad match or talentless less scary because yes society judges you but look at Juline and Kesler, they still live in an ice mansion and have immense wealth. Social oppression and physical oppression are two different things and one is far more drastic and dystopian. Sophie doesn't even need to see it at first. Maybe while not banished, those parts of the elven world are even more hidden than the glittering ones and since Sophie goes to Foxfire she still wouldn't see it right away and it would serve the same effect of what appears to be a utopia to the readers (I forgot who posted it but someone else made a great analysis on this point) but is actually a dystopia.
I think Dex, Marella, and Jensi should've been part of a lower economic class, and I even think Stina should be very close to it. So much so that she has to be mean and bully Dex to separate herself from what is a very possible future for her family. Maybe Sophie meets them another way. Maybe Dex is accepted into Foxfire because his mom is still "noble" or because his aunt is and its very apparent he still doesnt fit in with the rest of the students. Maybe the councillors created a special test to allow only the smartest of the lower class to also join Foxfire, and Marella and Jensi passed. That would make the council seem a little more progressive from the outside at first as well as allow Sophie to meet them as soon as she does as well as give Marella and Jensi a unique perspective.
Jensi is part of the drooly boys but even from the beginning he is clearly not a part of the group because while gross, theyre still noble. Jensi is still poor. Marella's mom getting drunk and getting a disability would be another way for the kids to scorn the lower class, as if its Marella's fault. Maybe even make way for a storyline where a noble elf was at fault for her impairment (because they have a lower class to oppress). Them becoming talentless and a pyrokinetic would be that much worse because they lose a chance to continue schooling at Foxfire. They are faced with the fact that they have to continue the life their families led before them because they don't have what society wants them to have. Because of this they also still work for the rich and they still have no money. That is much better than just "I can't work for the council and am instead stuck with no obligations to them while I sit comfortably in my mansion with my 500 million lusters. But oh no, I'm not noble so it means I'm oppressed"
Thank you so much!!
Trigger Warning: This contains self harm, fear of abuse, and thoughts of suicide
This is Marella. I thought of it because of the song "My R" and I do ship Darella and also that "boys don't look at me" I got from a tiktok pov from a while ago. And Sirri is one of Stina's henchmen. But I found this in my notes and thought I would share because why not. Please tell me what you think:
She was standing on the roof, bent down in a squat so that her bottom almost touched the tiles. Her arms were wrapped around her, tight and secure, but the tears wouldn't flow. What if she jumped off right now? What if she finally did it this time?
The next day came and she didn't, in fact, jump off. Instead, she went to sleep and woke up with her usual spunk. She got dressed, packed her stuff, and headed out the door to lightleap to school. Foxfire. It was the most prestigious school in the Lost Cities and somehow she got in. Even though she passed the entry exam like everyone else, it was hard to feel like it was because of her own skill. Maybe they were distracted. Maybe they pitied her because of her family situation. She almost pitied herself. One moment her mom was happy and supportive, aware of her surroundings and joyful. The next moment she was breaking down, slamming doors, breaking things, screaming. There were a few times Marella was scared her mother would hit her, but she never did.
Upon arriving at school, she found Stina and Maruca waiting for her in the front hall so they could go to attendance. They walked side by side. Marella wasn't in the back but she sure wasn't talking as much as they were and they didn't seem to care. Stina turned and asked her something, and she confidently said her two sense. They'd expect her to be confident and comfortable in her skin, but the burns on her back and legs didn't show under her uniform. It was like this every day. They'd meet her, they'd talk her ear off, she'd end up feeling worthless by lunch. Sirri would continue to interrogate her about boys, but all Marella could do was avoid looking at Dex from across the cafeteria. She simply said, "Boys don't pay attention to me," and let the next person speak.
The times she felt the worst was her practices with Fintan. He knew how to make her hate her body, her friends, and her own family. He also taught her how to use her pyrokinesis, the terrible ability she'd been given. She just wanted to be an empath. She just wanted to help her mom. So again, she'd go home and sit up on the roof, pondering. Why couldn't Dex even turn her way? Why couldn't she have gotten a nice ability? When would she be worth calling for help against the Neverseen? When would her mother finally realize she hated her and give her that heavy slap that Marella always prepared for? Would Stina realize she liked her other friends more than she liked her? Like Sophie did. She was just waiting for the wave to come crashing in, and for the tenuous kind-of peace she knew to finally break completely.
Maybe she should've jumped off that roof right then, to avoid her inevitable downfall. Then she wouldn't be able to hurt anyone else with her ability or her presence. She remembered how she accidentally burned off some of Princess Purryfins' whiskers, and Linh simply laughed it off and put her back in the water, but she couldn't have forgiven her. She almost hurt someone dear to her friend. She deserved to have it all end. The night that happened she went to her room and burned her own cheek as punishment; but she told her father it was an accident.
Yes I know I obsess over a series for literal children
Yes I enjoy it
Yes I have a crush on 2 fictional characters that may or may not be a certain empath with mommy and daddy issues and a certain pyrokinetic who's been basically abandoned by her friends from that series
No I will not apologize
I LOVE THIS SMM
We've seen Fintan use flames in all three of the primary colors. He could theoretically make any secondary or tertiary color by mixing his flames.
Pride-themed arson.

I've been thinking, what if the Kotlc squad became evil?
Sophie wouldn't join the Neverseen, stay with the black swan, or help the council--she wouldn't side with anyone. She would fight for herself, and what she believes in because that's what she wants to do. She knows she was created for a specific purpose, so screw that. She's sick of the rules and ready to break them.
Keefe would destroy anything that hurt any of the people he cares about. The world could burn for all her cares--he would do anything for the people he loved. Anyone who got in the way would not get away unscathed. He won't let people hurt the ones he loves anymore, because when they get hurt--he gets hurt.
Dex would sabotage things from the inside out. He would play along, and pretend to help everyone out, when in reality he's bringing them to their downfall. Oops, his machine "malfunctioned" and killed someone."Don't worry Dex, it's not your fault." No one would notice. No one ever notices him. Might as well use that to his advantage.
Fitz would lose himself in his anger. He would lose all control of his body, and simply destroy anything in his way, whether it be a piece of furniture or a member of his family. He doesn't care. What's the difference anyway? He's been uptight his whole life, now he can finally let loose, and god does it feel good for him.
Biana would be careful, but ruthless. She would plan every single step that she took, and every single move that she made. She would observe her enemies from the shadows, calculating what to do next. She would be patient, so when she finally strikes, she hits her enemy with everything she has. And after so long, people see her for who she really is, a force not to be reckoned with.
Marella would do nothing. She would sit back and watch as everyone worked their asses off, while she sits back and relaxes. They only come to her when they need something, so why should she bother? She burns. She lets everything burn. Her house, her clothes, her books, her parents, her friends, her world. Herself. Nothing matters if everything is gone. She watches the fire burn, and she does absolutely nothing.
Let me know if you guys want a part 2
kotlc ships that I physically need to happen vs what probably will happen part 1
Marelinh is all I am living for right now. They are otp and I love them so much. Like I want them to cuddle with each other, and to love each other PLEASE I NEED THEM SO BADLY FCYDGIUWLKHJDCE UWDJOSKLJEXKDWLS
I have a feeling however that if Linh ends up with anyone it's probably going to be either Wylie or Fitz. I think they just want us to pretend that Wylie isn't an adult and it isn't weird but no
Fitz and Linh ending up together would cause some drama with Sophie but also the way Sophie describes his fascination with her and her ability raises some eyebrows
anyways yeah if Marella and Linh don't end up together I am lobotomizing myself ššš
every main KOTLC character has some family issues
marella: her momās issue (i honestly forget what it is)
sophie: well, to start, we know one of her biological parents, her parents donāt remember her after nightfall (but thankfully amy does bc amy is a boo), jolie died bc of her psycho lover brant which caused problems for grady and edaline which made them hesitant of sophie at the beginning of the series. now theyāre a happy family and iām glad.
keefe: do we even need to go here? well, if youāre that blind then here you go. his mom is a leader of the Neverseen and literally wants him to fulfill his ālegacyā of him joining the Neverseen (thankfully heās like HELL NAH). his dad doesnāt give a shit abt him and only gave sophie and her friends CRUCIAL information if he joined the Black Swan and had keefe move in with him. uhhhhh mr lord cassius you donāt deserve to be in the Black Swan so fuck off.
fitz: Alvar. imma be real. i LOVED alvar. and i did not see his betrayal coming. i loved his and sophieās relationship before him being all baddie and shit. but then fitzās asshole of a brother is now in the Neverseen and i fucking hate it. i hate him. and then there was aldenās mind break or whatever it was bc of prentice but now prentice is fine and weāre all like š(this goes for biana too)
dex: him being bullied bc his dad is talentless and then they have triplets. pretty much it. but at least his mom is part of the Collective.
tam/linh: parents donāt give a shit abt them. blamed linh for flooding atlantis when tHeY wErE tHe oNeS wHo bRoUgHt a hYdRoKiNeTiC iNtO a cItY uNdErWaTeR.

I drew Marella because I took a break from drawing for a couple months and Iām trying to pick it up again and I love that she was on the Stellarlune cover! I probably wonāt color this but idk. Also I have no idea how to draw lips or braids
I hc that Linh is like 6 ft tall and Marella is like 5,2 and Linh teases her for being short all the time
What would happen if an enhancer enhanced a enhancer?? Could that even happen???!!š
